I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Natsku I may have been foolish by skipping them I feel really sick now! I couldn't decide if I was relieved I wasn't sick this morning or worried because I hadn't been! 11 weels seems a bit soon to be getting better. Your mum may be right, I was booked in for a planeed section as dd was breech but a couple of weeks before I had Braxton hicks all day and my bump was rock hard, I had no pain but went in at 9pm to get checked and I was 5cm dilated!

Anatidae · 04/02/2018 13:12

Congratulations sandy :)

I was going to ask if you could be pregnant again. I did have a ‘hangover’ of sickness for one week post ovulation after I gave birth. I’m not sure if it was physical or psychological or a mix. But it was definitely hormonally driven. If you’re feeling sick constantly then you need to get checked out. I’d suggest starting with a pregnancy test, and if that remains negative to the GP for a full workup including thyroid.

After this one (if everything goes ok) I’m getting spayed, I swear. They can tie my tubes while they are in there...

I’m finding it hard to remember how it was the first time round - it’s like the experience was erased somehow. I remember feeling worse at 3-16 weeks, but the nausea stayed the whole time.

Have taken some ondansetron and it’s had an effect. So that’s good. My hands are so sore from all the needling the other day.

Anatidae · 04/02/2018 13:13

Go natsku! live birth thread within a thread :)

Peachesandcream15 · 04/02/2018 13:17

Hi all, been a bit quiet from me, but I've been feeling pretty down the last week or so. I feel like I just have so far to go yet. 8+1 today. Eating and drinking still a massive struggle but had ketones checked yesterday and they were ok.

Had a scan last week and saw baby and heartbeat so that was nice but.....yeah, whatever. Have to be honest and say I've had thoughts bitterly regretting the whole thing.

Sorry to see some new names. Here to hold hands.

Natsku · 04/02/2018 14:04

I remember feeling so down in those early weeks peaches it's very normal, hope you start to feel more positive soon.

I was telling myself that if I don't feel baby moving soon I'll go to the hospital to get checked for that at least but he just had a really good wriggle session. Quite reluctant to go the hour and a half to the hospital, to wait around for a couple of hours, and then probably be sent home. But if I get even the hint of a proper contraction tonight I'm going. Got the midwife tomorrow so will tell her all these symptoms - weirdest one right now is that my belly button is hot! Rest of my belly is normal, bit cool, but can feel the heat coming off my navel.

bitzy12 · 04/02/2018 14:17

I've just come especially to my mums house for her to make me a sandwich.....all I wanted was one of her sandwiches. I ate it and it was amazing.....ten minutes later I start feeling like it's all going to come back up.

My mum said 'let's talk about something to keep your mind off it'

I'm sat there with my head in my hands trying to get over the nausea and my mums next sentence is:

'How do you feel about sterilisation?'

Really not the time mother.....

LottieDoubtie · 04/02/2018 18:43

I puked 🤢

So I either have a bug which makes you nauseous for a week and then puke or I’m in the club...

Emu31 · 04/02/2018 22:17

Hi everyone, just checking in as haven't posted for ages. Exciting to see that I'm near the top of the due dates list now! 37+3 and both very ready to meet baby emu and stop feeling sick and finally reach the pink castle, and also rather terrified of the whole birth and motherhood thing. Thankfully sickness has improved a lot so no actual vomming for a few weeks but nausea is still around about 60% of the time, which although a massive improvement is still quite wearing after all this time. Have forgotten what normality feels like.

Sorry to see lots of new names having to join the hg club that no one wants to be a member of, those early weeks are so very tough, but it's amazing that the time really does pass and that though you feel you won't survive it somehow you do.

Nat I hope labour might be starting for you and that you will meet baby nat soon.

shehz and justtheonethen how are you getting on?

lucinda sorry about your pc hope it gets fixed soon. You are a wonder keeping this thread going, it is such a lifesaver for so many of us.

blue/sandy so sorry you're still feeling sick how rubbish

Natsku · 04/02/2018 23:08

Waters have broken!!!

Shehz21 · 05/02/2018 05:45

Woop woop Nat!! Omg exciteeeeddddd for you!!
Do keep us updated if you can!
GOODLUCK! Grin

Shehz21 · 05/02/2018 06:00

Emu31 How are YOU doing?! Ohh so clooose now! So excited for you!
I am sure it will be a wonderful and special experience we shan't ever forget. It was a long road and we will definitely enjoy the Pink Castle at the end of it Smile
I am doing okay-okay. 33+4 and baby overly active at night.. I have started telling people who keep telling me to make the most of my sleep/nights now to shut up not worry as I haven't slept more than 2.5hrs since I got to 30 weeks. Getting used to being a night owl.

Aww handhold Peaches. Really hoping you turn a corner soon. You are almost out of the "really bad weeks" period.
I do know how you are feeling atm and it's perfectly understandable. I think I speak type for most (if not all!) of us when I say type that we all felt desperately low and regretted ever getting pregnant in the 1st place but that feeling will soon go away along with this nasty HG and you will feel a lot more positive .
We are all here for you in the meantime Smile

bitzy Big hugs for you. Hope your sandwich stayed down. That was a bit insensitive of your DM but I am sure she didn't mean no harm. I for one was gladly discussing how I would NEVER EVER get pregnant again in my life and get sterilized as soon as baby Shehz comes out during my damned 1st trimester. Was wallowing in self pity really.

Mustang Thanks for the encouragement!
Cheered me right up to read your post, I am actually looking forward to newborn times as compared to this crap time with pregnancy.
Just want to feel like myself again after 9 long months.

OrangeCloud18 · 05/02/2018 06:44

Yay Natsku !!! Good luck!!

Nothing much to report here, 36 weeks and sickness is getting worse and worse... Next scan and apt to check on little boy on Friday and last week of work...

nailsathome · 05/02/2018 07:37

Exciting news Natsku!

Anatidae · 05/02/2018 07:41

Go Natsku!! Hope it goes well and you have a straightforward birth.

SandyBabyToes · 05/02/2018 10:56

Natsku Good luck my lovely! Thanks

Thanks all, yeah they can tie my tubes whilst I'm in there too Anat Grin

Will take test soon. Honestly I will be quite shocked and mildly upset since I'm still sick now and have been ever since DS was born. My thyroid and everything is normal.

I have been branded as one of the unlucky ones by my consultant that still gets dreaded HG whilst breastfeeding Envy

Emu31 · 05/02/2018 12:47

nat also just seen the good news about your brother's appeal, so pleased for him and for you. Hope all goes really well with the birth and that today will be the day you meet your new little one.

Emu31 · 05/02/2018 12:51

shehz thank you! Yes I veer between excitement and terror, but as you say it's been such a tough road to get here surely life with a newborn will be a big improvement. Sorry you're having such a bad time with sleeping, people can be so unhelpful with their comments! I honestly don't know what is wrong with people sometimes. Has sickness improved from the 30 week relapse? Xx

Natsku · 05/02/2018 13:14

Being induced as waters were green and I wasn't doing much progress myself, plus I have an infection. Feeling sick but not been sick.
Very happy about my brother

LucindaE · 05/02/2018 13:38

Natsku Ooh, wonderful! All luck. Glad to hear brother's appeal went OK.
PeachesandCream Much sympathy. Those regrets are unfortunately, very common early on. For most people, things do get much better somewhere between weeks 14 and 21. Even for the unlucky ones who suffer throughout, few feel anything like as bad as in the early days. It will be worth it. 'This Too Shall Pass'.
Anitidae I have heard that Ondansetron and cyclizine and the B vitamin (stupid me; I've forgotten if it is B6 or B12?) plus an anti acid and the inevitable laxative for the Ondansetron such as Lactulose can be helpful, and you can get the vitamins in liquid form. Sadly for many, the nausea isn't stopped in the way that the sickness is. Hopefully things will soon improve. Ten weeks is generally round the worst time.
SandyBabyToes Sorry about the vomiting returning. I expect you've seen my posts about how a very small number of unlucky sufferers on here have gone on suffering after birth, and just as your consultant says, breast feeding hormones seem to trigger it. Sadly, almost invariably, they had to stop breast feeding earlier than they had planned. I did get nausea myself with the let down, but I didn't have vomiting after ten days. If you are still breast feeding and your cycle never came back, it does seem unlikely but possible that you've conceived without knowing it. A test might be worth while?

Emu Lovely to hear from you. Sorry you still have nausea 60 per cent of the time, but I am glad things are better than they were! Everyone feels nervous at being a first time mother. Most sufferers of Hyperemesis agree a new born is easier than Hyperemesis!
Lottie Sorry about puking. Most stomach bugs have puking early, so perhaps you will indeed be joining us. I am glad the thread helped last time. Don't delay in getting pre-emptive meds.
Shez Sorry about baby keeping you awake. Well, mine slept at night in the uterus, but was sleepless when born. Hopefully, yours will be the other way about.
Btzy Oh dear, your mother didn't time that well. But how nice her sandwiches must be. I hope it stays down.
nails Much sympathy about 'groundhog' day.
And butterfy Probably it was a bit optimistic, but I do hope you get an early improvement.
There are still about 30 messages left, so I don't think I'll need to do a new thread till tomorrow. I'm typing this from the library - they have started laughing every time I turn up. The PC is sitll being done - there may be news from the IT lot tomorrow, but if necessary I'll do a new thread from the library tomorrow am.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Omg Nat sooo bloody excited. Great news about your brother too. Good luck with the induction I'm sure it will pass quick now.

Sandy, test test and test. Please let us know and you will be absolutely fine if you are.

Anytime Shehz you will be absolutely awesome.

Strangely enough Anatidae that's how I felt throughout pregnancy but now I get too choose Iv trumped for a long term with the copper coil as it has no hormones. Il regret it won't I Confused.

Normality does return Emu. Although 5 weeks on I still feel slightly sick at the thought of some foods. Just memory more than I actually can't eat then though.

Natsku · 05/02/2018 14:14

Apparently reporters are waiting for me to announce the baby is born so they can know which it is (my family doesn't know the sex yet) Grin

Mustang27 · 05/02/2018 14:19

Hey woman get to labouring already 😂.

Aww that's so nice a surprise for them. Hope your wee girl is good and getting excited for baby now.

Mustang27 · 05/02/2018 14:20
  • your family not the reporters Grin
bitzy12 · 05/02/2018 15:06

How long did everyone cope with feeling like crap before going for fluids? Today has been my worst days of far, cannot keep anything down.

Also have quite a bad urine infection and cannot keep my antibiotics down. Cyclizine is well and truly failing me now.

Anatidae · 05/02/2018 15:10

Ten weeks for me. It didn’t help that much to be honest. I got stuck on a trolley with two litres of saline/glucose but no one bothered to give me a drink in twelve hours. I’d have been better off at home dripping rehydration salts in with a teaspoon tbh.
