I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I'm only on 4mg twice a day of ondansetron as well although realistically I often only take it once a day because I'm asleep the vast majority of the day and there's no need for me to take it before I'm planning to sleep as when I'm asleep I don't wake up to be sick iyswim. I didn't know you could take 8mg in one dose though, might discuss with GP next time I talk to them, but then when I was taking 8mg daily for a few weeks the constipation was horrendous and I've got it much better under control now. I also am having loads of headaches and permanent dizziness the last week or so which at first I thought was discontinuation syndrome from coming off the venlafaxine but as days pass and it's getting no better I'm starting to wonder whether it may actually be ondansetron side-effects in which case I'm not sure how I could bear to up the dose as I'm already constantly in pain with the headaches and unable to barely move safely with the dizziness, had quite a few near-falls Sad.

DH did call the midwife btw but she didn't answer, he left a VM but nothing...her VM said if she didn't call back within a few hours to call the buddy midwife or the general community midwifery line but it's the weekend now and not super urgent so he will probably try and call her again on Monday I guess. And no it makes no difference whether the call is incoming or not unfortunately.

All I've managed to keep down so far today is a kiwi and a bread roll, sigh...so hungry but feel so nausous and not due another ondansetron until about 9pm.

Natsku I hope you're ok flower, if you're worried you should probs get in touch with midwife/ER? Dunno I know absolutely zero about late pregnancy though Blush.

Just Sorry to hear your midwife was crap. Could you see your GP separately about MH? Or you could ask to speak to the team leader midwife instead?

justtheonethen · 15/12/2017 18:35

Meadow you might find you feel a lot better if you take the ondansetron regularly. It has a cumulative effect on me. I would up it to 3xa day (if your gp agreed) as you have been feeling so awful. Just up the lactulose too.

justtheonethen · 15/12/2017 18:37

I suffered terribly with headaches the first week of ondansetron then they went. The dizziness is pretty constant for me but I've read it (and headaches) can be an HG symptom too.
You could always see if you get on better with a different anti emetic?

MeadowHay · 15/12/2017 19:13

Thanks just, I will have to speak to GP before Xmas as my sick note runs out on the 24th December which is pretty daft, I mean surely that will be a ridiculously busy time for them, I would have thought it would have been much easier to just sign me off until after the new year, urghh. A few of them have been quite keen to have me on as little as possible though so it may depend a lot on who I talk to/see. I've already tried cyclizine and prochlorperazine which are in the two different categories of first-line meds and neither did anything for me at all Sad. Tbh I could still be conceivably be having discontinuation syndrome from my AD for the next few weeks even so it's difficult to know what is the HG and what is that, and what is medication side-effects etc, sigh...in the meantime I could try routinely increasing back to twice a day every day and see if it makes any difference although I didn't see any noticeable negative difference when I reduced it really.

justtheonethen · 15/12/2017 19:27

You might need a combination of meds. Keep on at the gp until you get it right.
Sounds ludicrous to sign you off until xmas eve! How silly!

Mustang27 · 15/12/2017 19:28

Ok I'm just going to vent and il come back to catch up later. Sorry in advance!!!!

So last Monday I had regular bh for 5/6hrs petered to nothing once I arrived at hospital really annoying.

Today I have had regular strong contractions not particularly painful since 1pm they are still there not intensifying every 5 mins or so for 45 secs to a minute long. WTAF!!! Body grrrrr I know stressing doesn't help but Jesus I didn't expect this with second baby I just expected my body to get on with it once baby was ready.

I'm going for a cry

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 15/12/2017 19:38

Mustang I know it's mega frustrating but your body is just preparing itself well for labour. Better long and slow than it shoot out really quick and mangle all your bits up (This is how someone once described it to me). I read once that you're less likely to have an injury if it goes nice and slow.

Doesn't make it any less annoying for you tho Cake you're on the home run now tho!!

justtheonethen · 15/12/2017 19:48

How annoying mustang! Hope it means your bits are less battered as batman says Grin

LucindaE · 15/12/2017 20:27

Much sympathy to all. Mustang for those painful Branx Hicks, and
I hope Natksu's pains have gone, and I am sorry to hear of Meadowhay's headaches. As others say, Ondansetron can cause that, but you said you are on a lower dose, I think. Unfortunately, can be a sign of dehydration. Also, if you tend to get migraines they can be dire in early pregancy, unfortunately.
Waves to Oklahoma - always lovely to hear from you, and justtheone and BATMAN and everyone.

Natsku · 16/12/2017 08:37

Urgh very annoying for you Mustang hope it starts properly for you soon

Did a poo this morning and felt much better so I reckon constipation was the cause of my pain! Starting on the lactulose to keep things running smoothly so to speak Grin OH is gone for the day to pick up our new car (has to go all the way to Helsinki to get it and wants to visit his grandma in the hospital there too) so pains better not come back today when he's not here.

LucindaE · 16/12/2017 10:59

Natsku I am so glad that the pain has gone. In Mustang's case, i hope they come back - in a good way.

Hi All. I’m tentatively checking in. Just got a surprise BFP this week. We already have 5 dc and I had HG with four of them. I started being sick today and am waiting for the inevitable HG to set in. I’m dreading it. I don’t think that I’ll get much support this time as we’ve just moved areas. And we’re going to have house guests over Christmas/new year that I don’t want to announce the pregnancy to. It was bad enough today trying to hide the vomiting from a friend who invited herself round for a while. Anyway, I’m off to bed as I should have been there hours ago...

Natsku · 17/12/2017 05:39

Hi NoRoom hopefully this time you won't get HG though obviously you're bound to expect it considering your history with it. Go get meds straight away if you haven't yet, before it has a chance to set in properly.

Me and DD did the tie dye baby clothes (and some clothes for DD and one shirt for me - should have done a shirt for OH and then we could be a tie dye family Grin ) yesterday and now they're in the wash. Will take a picture when they're dry - hoping the colours don't bleed out too much in the wash, they were looking very cool when I was rinsing them Grin

Shehz21 · 17/12/2017 09:27

Woops missed a lot on here. Threads moves so fast!
Natsku How are you feeling now?
Can't wait to see these tie dyes! I'm sure ypu and DD had a lot of fun making those.

NoRoom Congratulations on your BFP!Flowers
Lovely addition to an already lovely family!
I know you must be dreading the HG now and you def don't wanna spend Christmas with a sick bucket,so please take yourself to the GP and start on medecines. Maybe insist on Ondansetron since the beginning as it's known to have a cumulative effect if you start on it early to keep the HG under control .
Totally second the idea of being in bed more often than not, rest is really gonna help you get through the early days though I understand it might not always be easy with 5 DC. Hope DH is being supportive and once family finds out, they can offer support so you can sleep the days away as much as possible. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that HG doesn't hit you as hard this time.

Shehz21 · 17/12/2017 09:37

Glad to read from Oklahama and Just about positive sweep experiences! Does give wimps like me some mental strength if I happen to be overdue to have one..
Sorry about all the trouble with cluster feeding though ladies. Really hope your little ones start settling into a routine soon so y'all can finally relax after such a long troublesome pregnancy.

justtheonethen I have bloods again at my 28w appointment despite having had my GTT test at 25 weeks. I have resigned myself to look away and not hyperventilate when I have my bloods taken. Really doesn't help my case that I always have student nurses/midwives who take it and prick then vein dies and they have to prick again...

Mustang Hoping on a lovely update from you that Mini Mustang 2 is here. You really deserve a fast and smooth labour. You have been a Star on here and wishing the very best for you!Xmas Smile

Waves to Meadow Batman Lucinda and sincere apologies to those who I might have missed..

Actively preparing for my baby shower on the 23rd of Dec. So much to do and so little time. Sleeping half of the time due to increasing my phernergan dose and the other half is spent in the preparations with a bad bad cold.
Will share pictures after the small event Xmas Smile

Natsku · 17/12/2017 09:48

I'm feeling much better now thanks Shehz (well apart from aching bum and thigh muscles from squatting on the shower room floor to do the tie dye!), pretty sure now that constipation was the issue but will still mention it to the midwife tomorrow. Ooo baby shower, exciting! They aren't a thing here :(

We've got our new car now, seems quite decent (Renault Clio Sport Tourer) and now I don't have to worry about the car engine exploding on us like I did with our old car!

Mustang27 · 17/12/2017 10:57

No baby yet. My stomach constantly feels hard like a watermelon baby is still moving but it's less. Should I be concerned?? I'm so over this pregnancy thing. My partner has been told to get himself to drs asap and get a vasectomy!!! Lol

Aww thanks Shehz il probably hang about like a bad smell lol bothering all the lovely but sick preggers ladies.

So glad you feel better Nat you have no bloody idea how excited I am to see these tie dye clothes!!!! Great news on the car front too.

Hi Noroom I second the advice on getting oneself to gp ASAP and get meds and push for the stronger ones. You know the script after 4 hg pregnancies do not suffer needlessly. Just play the bug card and hopefully your house guests will look after your babies and you over Christmas. Also 6 I'm in awe this is my second and I'm most definitely done, what age are your children if you don't mind me asking?

Natsku · 17/12/2017 11:31

Mustang I think I remember reading that moving less should be reported to the midwife even if it's close to the end as people tend to think they move less at the end as they run out of space but that's a myth or something? I'm not sure, just remember reading something like that when I was worried about movements a while ago. But the stomach feeling hard all the time is maybe contractions/BH?

My clothesline looks like a hippy threw up on it Grin

Mustang27 · 17/12/2017 11:59

Oh god looks like a trip up to hospital for me. I just feel like I'm wasting their time 😢.

Love it so funky.

justtheonethen · 17/12/2017 12:20

Go get checked mustang, never a waste of time!

Noroom definitely get meds, the earlier the better. Congratulations on adding to your family, you're a stronger woman than me!

Shehz I am having GTT on 3rd Jan so I told them they could just do all the bloods then, I'm sick of being poked about with. I've started saying no to the students as I only have one good vein and I'm so dehydrated all the time that one is unreliable. I'm sick of students fucking it up then having go for my hands for cannulas and bloods.
Hope baby shower goes well! Is it at your house? My sis is throwing me one at the start of Feb, hope I feel better by then!

Natsku sounds brilliant! Can't wait to see them.

I'm feeling awful today. Just lying in bed dry heaving and feeling sorry for myself.

Shehz21 · 17/12/2017 13:55

justtheonethen I was wondering if I could say no to the students?!
I will next time if it's possible!
No it's in a hall in Romford so 15mins away from home. DH and sister-in-law are taking care of the main stuff and I am trying to help them where I can since I know they are very busy with work and I feel guilty just sitting home jobless....Sad
My parents and DB are coming from Dubai to be here for the baby shower and spend Christmas and New Years with us so cnt wait for them to be here. Xmas Smile
Aww hopefully you are having a good week then or atleast a good day for the baby shower!
How's everything going on with baby shopping? Any more interesting bargains? Got my eye glued on some stuff and waiting for boxing day to start cliking away like a mad personBlush
Did you choose a baby bath yet? I am really liking the Shnuggle!

Nat good news about the car! One thing less to worry about, relaxed mummy and in turn happy babyXmas Grin

Mustang They always say it's better to come get checked. They rather see you a 100x than it being an unfortunate situation where you don't get checked. I am sure Mini M2 is all good and snuggly in there but do get checked still jst for peace of mind.

Hope the others are managing alright today..

Shehz21 · 17/12/2017 13:59

justtheonethen so sorry missed your last sentence and here I am rambling about baby stuff to youShock
I am so sorry didn't mean to be insensitive!
Oh love do try to nibble on your safe food list though to avoid dehydration. I know the trips to the hospital and all the fuss with the canulas can be overwhelming when you are already feeling shit..Sad
Don't worry the year is almost over and we are nearer to the Pink Castle than you think. This too shall pass!

Natsku · 17/12/2017 14:05

Hope you're getting checked out and everything is ok Mustang

Of course you can say no to the students Shezh!

justtheonethen · 17/12/2017 14:27

Shehz don't worry, good distraction! Your baby shower sounds lovely, can't wait to hear all about it!

I'm keeping things down mostly, desperately want to avoid hospital so nibbling and sipping away! I just say "my veins are really tricky, can you only try if you're feeling confident." That 9/10 times has them scurrying for someone better. I totally get they need to practice but not when I only have one good vein!

I wanted the shnuggle baby bath but we got given one so I'll just use that. Got given the angel care bath support too which looks useful when they go in main bath.
I have bought or been given most things now. We put the cot together the other day and I bought new mattresses for that and the rocking crib and Moses basket we were given. Did buy a second hand Ewan the dream sheep this week- wishful thinking!
What do you have your eye on? Inspire me!

We are getting there, roll on 2018 and hopefully some relief from HG and time to build the excitement Smile
