I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I was readmitted again last night and despite the recommendation from my last hospital stay that I be given steroids they've said no.

I've been put on Cyclizine, which took forever to kick in. I've had barely 10 minutes of sleep and I just want to cry. I've managed a slice of brown bread (no toast available) and half a mug of weak tea. They keep saying that steroids is a last resort, despite the Gynaecologist's recommendations from last time.

Mustang27 · 08/09/2017 09:07

Pippa if you have upped your proteins due to low carb low sugar that could explain ketones, ketogenic diets rely on this.

They are a last resort AndInShortIWasAfraid but how sick do they want you to be!! I'm so sorry you are feeling so miserable.

pippanippa · 08/09/2017 12:00

Thanks Mustang, I think that's the problem, trouble is, as soon as I up the carbs a little the blood sugar rises up towards the limit, so I'm not sure what to do. I know ketosis is not good for baby, but I know high blood sugar isn't good for them either. Balancing HG and GD feels like managing two opposing forces, they both need different things to be manageable and I'm failing miserably Sad.

pippanippa · 08/09/2017 12:01

Sorry andinshort I posted too soon. I hope you are beginning to feel a bit better and are being well looked after, it is so frustrating having to push for things when you feel so unwell.

DeadDoorpost · 08/09/2017 12:12

pippa Its not medical advice but a good friend of mine had GD with her most recent one and her sugars went up regardless of what she ate. She was fine, baby was fine, her midwife just hated her for the high sugars all the time. Sometimes you just can't help it. She'd get so confused about it all. If that's all you can deal with on the occasional day then do it. You don't want to put yourself in a bad situation if you don't feel comfortable

LucindaE · 08/09/2017 13:54

AndInShortIWasAfraid Goodness, poor you. I am sorry. How many weeks are you - are they hoping for an improvement over the next few weeks? I know steroids are a last resort, but if they have been recommended, this is so dicouraging. I can only sympathise and hope the meds help, and even that small amount of tea and bread.
pippasnippa That sounds so frustrating. I wish I could give some good advice, and had noted whether the ketones issue came up with others put on a low sugar diet with GD. I believe they were less worried about the ketones a woman on here who had them at the end of pregnancy because they were due to 'long term starvation' (alarming term!) not dehydration, but I have always found this whole issue of ketones confusing once they cease to be due to dehydration but are due to lack of food. I think you should certainly phone the GP for advice or the consultant and heed her/his advice over the disapproval of the mdiwife. I have heard that midwives disapprove of high sugar levels in the blood, but what are you supposed to do when suffering from Hyperemesis and a large part of your list of bearable things are sweet things?
Good advice, everyone...

Natsku · 08/09/2017 14:48

That must be horrid combining HG with GD pippa :( hope you manage to find a good balance in your diet - ask for some more specific diet advice at your next appointment

Still doing ok here thanks to the medicine - they really ought to prescribe it in the UK as it seems to work so well. But getting increasingly uncomfortable as I get bigger (20 weeks tomorrow and my bump is massive already) and it seems to be causing worse pain in my old appendix scar (adhesions maybe) which is pissing me off and slightly scaring me that it'll get worse and worse.

pippanippa · 09/09/2017 09:54

Thanks for all the words of support. I think you're right I need to find a better balance between managing the two things, it's not just the glucose to focus on, I also need to survive the next couple of months without turning into skin and bones, and need to have some energy to function! Will have a chat to the Dr and nurse next week and see how strict I really needs to be.

On the plus side, if anyone needs any weight-loss diet advice (doubtful on this thread seeing as we're all pregnant and vomiting!), following a gestational diabetes eating plan seems to be highly effective!

pippanippa · 09/09/2017 09:55

Natsku really sorry to hear about the scar pain, have the Dr's given you any advice on anything which can help, I can imagine that must be very uncomfortable.

Natsku · 09/09/2017 10:31

Haven't asked the doctor about it as its only just started getting worse but I'll have an OB appointment later this month I think after my anatomy scan so I'm going to ask then.

HaichM · 09/09/2017 13:21

Magnum: congratulations and it is so true. I've lost count of how many people have said how well I look now. The relief of being able to eat and drink whatever I want is immense. I'm glad mini-magnum is well behaved. I seem to sleep better most nights than when pregnant, especially now I can sleep on my side without the pain or baby bladder.

Don't forget there's the FB group for 3rd trimester and beyond if your interested

Hi to everyone. Hope your suffering doesn't last too long.

LucindaE · 09/09/2017 13:27

Lovely to hear from HaichM. Glad that all is well.
I hope they sort out the scar pain if it gets worse, Natsku, and I hope AndInShortIWasAfraid is feeling a tiny bit better for fluids, and I hope pippasnippa Gets some good advice from a doctor about this impossible juggling diets act.
dillydollydarling Aha, so not Thackeray! Your niece (you did say niece?) must be a psychic.
I hope everyone is coping today.

LucindaE it was my sister that came up with the nickname 😂

I just want to say how grateful I am for this thread and also the pregnancy sickness support website. Thanks to both I am much more prepared in this pregnancy and have so far managed to control the hg with cyclizine and b6. I feel a little nauseous in the morning but once I've taken the tablets and eaten something I'm okay. Trying to avoid anything too rich and stick to plain, bland foods and it seems to be working! I'm hopeful that I might get to enjoy this pregnancy more than my first!

cantdothisagain2017 · 09/09/2017 19:26

I've been awol for a while feeling spectacularly sorry for myself.
I'm 20+4 today and still terribly sick and I've been totally depressed. This baby is so loved and wanted yet I feel absolutely dreadful and it's a struggle every day. I'm still on ondansetron but since 18 weeks the sickness has been worse and I think exhaustion and anaemia is making it worse (having to take iron tablets plus laxative too and it's making me feel worse).
Barely getting anything done in terms of housework and I feel useless. Really hoping things start to improve as I want to enjoy being pregnant. Some days I just feel ill and is so bad I forget what it's all about !

DeadDoorpost · 09/09/2017 19:30

Well my heart rate just went through the roof 😂😂😂 first massive house spider has just been caught and dealt with in something like 2 years now.

CastleFeck · 09/09/2017 20:53

Hello. Just came by to say hello and offer some encouragement. My hg started this time last year and now ds is nearly 5 months old and totally delicious. He nearly broke me though!

Pippa I had Gd and managed it with diet. I lost weight too, but never tested my ketones. I found I was toterant of pasta and brown rice so ate that. I agree I ate loads, but struggled to gain weight. Can you take your sugars closer to the threshold or are you already borderline?

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 21:16

Hi Lucinda, sorry to be a pain but can you please change me from BlueIsYou on the due date calendar to my new username?

I've had to have a name change! DH came on here thinking he was being funny starting a silly thread Angry and I stupidly replied to it and made myself look a bit odd.

Needless to say I've banned him from MN Grin

LucindaE · 09/09/2017 21:22

CantDoThisAgain You poor thing. I am sorry there is so little improvement. Is there anything else that they can add to ease things a bit? Are you on an anti acid?
CastleFeck Thank you for your lovely post of encouragement. How time flies! Glad baby is flourishing.
DeadDoorPost Goodness; are you in Lincolnshire? I have heard there is a strange influx of huge spiders there - not sure why?

LucindaE in down in Cornwall, so should be used to them as there's loads here but we've been really lucky in this flat.

BlueButTrue that's hilarious, I want to find it now 😂😂

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 22:25

Thanks Lucinda!

DeadDoor It was far from funny according to other MNetters in AIBU (where he posted it) Blush

In a nutshell, the post was aimed at ticking people off by asking if he's unreasonable for his wife to bring him toast in bed, on demand Grin

DeadDoorpost · 09/09/2017 23:20

Oh I bet he had great fun with that one! My DH doesn't post or have an account but does browse occasionally. Not sure what for but when I asked him about it he said something about research for the baby. Don't know if I believe him or not..

BlueButTrue · 09/09/2017 23:23

DeadDoor My DH is constantly nosing about on Mumsnet threads Hmm he's never interested in mine, just nosey at other people's business and often sends me links to interesting ones.

He secretly loves it, he's always bloody on here!

But has only ever posted once and won't be again since he got banned Grin

Mustang27 · 09/09/2017 23:44

It is incredibly addictive. Does sound like a funny thread gutted I missed it lol.

Pippa hope you are coping today and your ketones are less crazy. Can you request a dietician app asap see if they can at least put your mind at ease.

Natsku hope your pain is manageable and it's not adhesion.

Blue meant to congratulate you on hubbys new job so relieved you got done good news for once.

Dead I love spiders I'd happily have sorted it for you but I'm too far away.

On a shite note my nausea is unbearable again and iv noticed iv got cellulite on my bum, thighs and upper arms. Not a stealth brag but I'm in my 30s and had absolutely none, I'm hoping it's just all the crap im eating now (all hg permits) and as soon as im back to non preggers land it does one. Can't recall it with mini mustang1 I feel quite sad about it as I really struggled to lose weight breastfeeding and don't really need the cottage cheese on top of that.

justtheonethen · 10/09/2017 08:45

Higher dose of ondansetron seems to be doing something. Not great but not constantly gagging.
Going on holiday today which I'm partly dreading. Any tips for plane/heat?
