I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Spiders Shock. I hate when DH is out and there is one. I'm so pathetic!

Natsku · 10/09/2017 09:07

Your naughty DH blue!

The hormone surge must be strong now as I'm feeling the sickness despite the meds that usually get rid of the symptoms altogether, just hoping it doesn't last long as I can't increase my dosage any more.

DeadDoorpost · 10/09/2017 09:46

DH pointed out the bruising on my thigh last night. No idea what it's from but because of where it is I reckon it's something to do with sleeping on my side.

pippanippa · 10/09/2017 11:33

Thanks Lucinda and CastleFeck. Yes, my scores are generally very low so there is plenty of room to play around. This morning I was feeling so dizzy and unwell that I just had my favourite sugary cereal and they were still under their limit, so I think I will continue experimenting to see what I can get away with.

Unfortunately the nausea and vomiting has been pretty bad for the past couple of days so not much food is staying down and I've also lost my appetite (maybe just because salad is not all that appealing though?!). Not sure whether it's the new diet or just a little bad patch. Either way, ketones are now almost always 3-4, but gladly not through dehydration. Thanks for the good wishes Mustang appointment is on Wednesday, so not long now, hopefully it will ease my mind (perhaps optimistically I'm hoping that a week of readings under the limit will make them question the accuracy of the initial test results, we'll see).

Hope everyone is having an OK weekend, and Blue I love that your DH is a mumsnet addict!

pippanippa · 10/09/2017 11:35

Oh Justtheone for the plane it's handy to take a little sick kit, so: sick bags and wet wipes (just in case!) and a bag of your favourite tolerable snacks / drinks so you're prepared for any eventuality. Also useful for queues at the airport either side. A mini fan for the heat might help, or some of that magicool spray I've heard is good.

justtheonethen · 10/09/2017 11:57

Thank you pippa good ideas. I'll take sick kit and snacks/drinks. I'll look at getting a cool spray at the airport too, great idea.
GD and HG sounds like an awful mix. You poor thing.

Natsku · 10/09/2017 11:59

Missed your post about going on a plane with HG - my idea of hell!! I went on a plane while in the early days of sickness with DD and I just made sure I sat near the toilets (back in the day when you just sat wherever) but that can backfire as sometimes then you get a nasty smell from the toilets which triggers the sickness even more. Lots of sickbags and safe snacks sound like your best bet.

cantdothisagain2017 · 10/09/2017 12:14

I take gaviscon as well as get terrible heartburn. Perhaps I should ask for something stronger.
I think the combination of HG, constipation and anaemia is not helping as taking iron tablets and mivicol just make me feel more sick but I have to take them. I'm also on levothyroxine so having that first thing is always horrendous 🤢
I have been more exhausted than ever and do feel a bit better for 20-30 mins immediately after a daytime nap but it's actually getting that nap as usually can't unless dh is not working.
I have been given mw appts at 25,28 and 34 weeks plus GTT and another scan at 34 weeks. The GTT fills me with dread as I have to get to hospital (at least half an hour by car) and I'm not allowed to eat or drink beforehand so can't even take my tablets as far as I know and if I have to wait any length of time I'm going to be in a state

LucindaE · 10/09/2017 12:52

Can'tdothisagain Lots of people on here find Gaviscon pretty ineffectual - I did. There are safe anti acids that could be prescribed. I also found iron tablets made me vomit - I've heard you can take them in drop form. Might that help a little?
DeadDoorPost Bruises sound nasty: Might be worth enquiring about. Hyperemesis is literally beating you up now.Sad
Justtheone Best of luck for plan trip, and great advice from everyone.
pippasnippa I am glad that you could safely have that cereal, and that there is room for experimentation.
BluesYou Oh, dear. Blush Was he banned for 'being a troll' or what?

Hi all, had to take a break from MN for a few days due to screen induced sickness.

pippanipa how awful for you to have to balance HG and GD, I hope you have some success soon.

AndInShortIWasAfraid sorry that you've had to join us and that you're having such a terrible time.

Welcome back dilly. I've found starting on the meds much earlier this time has made a huge difference so far so hopefully it will for you to.

Lucinda (sorry, fairly belated answer to your questions), I was only on cyclizine towards the end of the sickness last time - which now doesn't seem to be helping at all - I wasn't prescribed ondansetron in my last pregnancy but it's making a huge difference to how I feel now. In my first pregnancy I could barely move from bed/the bathroom floor for the first couple of months of sickness, whereas this time I actually managed a few hours at work on Friday (although only just and have been paying for it ever since). I'm having a bit of a problem with acidity now though and don't really know what to do about it.

PPs who talked about fantasies of all the healthy eating they would do during pregnancy, I remember having the same thoughts before my first (and vain hopes for this one). I discovered yesterday that I can now take my jeans off without needing to undo them. Really need to find the box that has the bathroom scales in so that I can keep an eye on the weight situation – not that I can do much about it.

Hope everyone is having a better day today!

LucindaE · 10/09/2017 13:41

TheOnceAndFutureQueen Welcome back. Re; the acidity, Omprazole (spelling?) and Ranitidine have really helped so many sufferers.

Thanks Lucinda, I'll look into those.

Loosemoose28 · 10/09/2017 17:09

Some how not actually throwing up but constantly feel sick, salivery and that on the verge feeling. But just end up heaving.

Anyway made tiny icelollies with this today. Such a nice flavour in my mouth (no other idea how to describe it)

Hope this idea may help someone.

Can't it's just awful isn't it? I'm nearly 30 weeks and feel exactly the same. I know I want this baby but I can't quite get past the just feeling to flipping awful all the time. Slowly losing my mind...

Agree with apple juice. I find it good heavily diluted with fizzy water.

BlueButTrue · 10/09/2017 18:40

Thank you ladies! Grin

He did indeed get banned for trolling and I'm lucky I wasn't banned along with him (I replied to his thread and I believe MN know your IP)

Lemondrop99 · 10/09/2017 20:09

Just dropping by to say hi. Nearly filled up another thread! Sorry I haven't been around much. I've had a few nausea free days (!) and it's been nice to take a mental break from thinking about HG and instead focus on/scaring the life out of myself by thinking about labour. 37 weeks here now. Been busy nesting all week. Spent 6 hours cleaning the kitchen including emptying every single cupboard and scrubbing the bin - then snapping at DH for daring to use the bin after I'd cleaned it Confused Yeah, crazy hormones here. The nesting is nearly destroying me though. I spend a day cleaning, then I'm wiped out for two days. Then I had raging pain today and got scared I was going into labour - but I eventually came to the conclusion it was probably really bad trapped wind Blush. I genuinely think I'm losing the plot here....baby had better hurry up for my sanity!

Sorry to hear lots of you are still having a rough time. Hang in there, it feels like forever but it will pass.

DeadDoorpost · 10/09/2017 20:30

LucindaE I mentioned the bruising at the hospital today. Had to go up and has reduced foetal movements this week. Everything is fine and he's measuring all good but they reckon it's because he's now head down (and head is quite far down!!) that he's getting comfortable and the movements will feel different now so it's like I'm feeling them for the first time again.

I've also been losing more weight which is what worried me more so mentioned that. Midwife was just so perplexed. No idea what's going on.

And I see why a lot of you don't get on with the Gaviscon... Had some last night and wanted to throw up it was vile and did nothing much at all. Decided to just give in and deal with the heartburn rather than risk anything else.

dillydollydarling · 11/09/2017 09:23

Seems like the cyclizine and b6 isn't enough. Feeling horrendous this morning and almost thrown up several times. Not sure I'm going to make it to work today. Is metaclopramide the next step? I have some here but can't remember if I took it alongside the cyclizine last time.

Natsku · 11/09/2017 09:43

Hope baby hurries up Lemon to save your sanity!

Gaviscon is just utterly vile Dead I told the midwife today about my heartburn and she told me to try mixing some potato flour with water and drinking that in the mornings(??)

She also wondered why I'm still feeling sick at 20 weeks and decided I must be sad about something or homesick for the UK (its been ten years...the UK isn't 'home' any more!), I explained I wasn't, I just look sad because I'm bloody exhausted from not sleeping well and feeling sick! And I found out that my OB has left suddenly so no idea what the new one will be like and whether they will be decent about medicine etc. :( Ultrasound machine was broken too so didn't get a little peek but listened to heartbeat and that was strong.
