I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is great: 024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Oh dead don't start me on the strange dreams! Every night for a week! Ranging from being trapped in the Scottish highlands and last nights delight.... my friend quit her job to breed microscopic guinea pigs?!?!?
Pregnancy is weird :)

DeadDoorpost · 13/07/2017 10:37

weasledee See, they're the dreams I can manage. They often amuse me as well at least. It's just these nightmares. Haven't he one in ages. Told my dad about it and he said it's just the hormones. I don't really believe that, but whatever. Weird dreams yes, but not nightmares.

beanhunter · 13/07/2017 11:09

Can you help me ladies. I'm at epau and meant to have a full bladder for a scan but I can't stop vomiting and the cyclizine hasn't helped at all today.

27Harper · 13/07/2017 11:13

Thanks for the warm welcome @DeadDoorpost! I Will try the ice Lolly trick!

@weasledee I don't think any of my dreams can top the one I had about being captured by Hitler on the titanic. Hitler trusted me the most for some reason 😂. Also Edna from the Simpsons was there? No idea. My dreams are always weird. I literally never get normal ones! xx

weasledee · 13/07/2017 11:18

27harper, that made me laugh out loud! Hitler on the titanic is definitely the winner! :)
Bean, have u got a bottled drink you can sip slowly and take in with you? I'm sure they will be understanding.... thinking of you today....

beanhunter · 13/07/2017 11:39

I just can't do it today. I'm going to see doctor if scan ok and will try and get some ondansetron and cyclizine isn't helping. They said if bladder empty will do a vaginal scan.

27Harper · 13/07/2017 11:42

Hi beanhunter. Sorry hun it's no fun is it. Have you tried Promethazine or Metoclopramide before? At one point I was on Cyclizine, Promethazine and Metoclopramide because I really didn't want to go to hospital but they were the only thing controlling the nausea xx

DeadDoorpost · 13/07/2017 11:44

@beanhunter I had that problem the day I had my 12 week scan. I was told I didn't actually need a full bladder, but an empty one.

As for the vaginal scan, I actually had one of those as well (a few days before I found out I was pregnant.. we were worried I had some rather bad cysts.. turns out there were none and they never found out the problem of the horrible pains I was getting.) The vaginal one doesn't hurt. It might be a bit embarrassing if anything, but it's fine, honestly. Besides... you're gonna have a lot of people staring at it when the baby comes, as my aunt reminds me.

Good luck with the scan though!

DeadDoorpost · 13/07/2017 11:49

Oh, and as for the vomiting, take water/whatever you can stomach the most and hope for the best in a bottle (even though you know it's not staying down). When you get there, at least they'll know you've been trying. But cyclizine didn't work for me after 1.5 weeks. Push for a new drug, definitely. I went through them all until ondansetron was offered. It's been my lifesaver.

If you can get an emergency prescription for a different drug before the scan though, that should help with the vomiting.

I'm all over the place today with advice sorry if I'm no help at all

beanhunter · 13/07/2017 11:58

Vaginal scan would have been fine - I've had 2 failed cycles of ivf so am a pro at them!
Actually they managed to do it the normal way. Measuring about 8+5 with a strong hb. No cause for bleeding. Waiting to see the doctor to try to get some different medicines.

Natsku · 13/07/2017 12:25

Glad they managed the scan and everything is looking OK. I don't think the full bladder is really necessary with these modern machines - my bladder was totally empty at my scan but it showed up very clear.

Had to get up early today to go to the nearest town to get my renewed prescription so didn't get enough sleep so sickness came back and in the end the pharmacy didn't even have my medicine in stock so have to go back again tomorrow :( half an hour on bendy hilly roads is just horrid :(

DeadDoorpost · 13/07/2017 13:07

Gas the baby is fine, bean that's good news at least. Hope they sort medicines out quickly.
That sucks Natsku but i also know how that is. Cornwall is full of curves and bends. Im travel sick at the best of times so its even worse during pregnancy.

I'm currently sat in the bath/shower trying to relax. I have the ovwrbearing urge to pee but i know there's nothing there to pee out and it's driving me insane.
We've also got a load of people coming over tonight for various things and I don't think I'm gonna cope well. I've started dinner already in the slow cooker so I don't have to worry about that, but I really don't feel like seeing some of these people (DH forgot to check with me so we ended up inviting 2 lots of separate people over for chats/dinner. Luckily one lot isn't here for dinner) but still.

Daffodil397 · 13/07/2017 14:01

Bless you natsku it's no small task travelling with hg and the fact you've got to do the journey twice to get your meds is not fair Flowers hope the symptoms ease off a bit tomorrow when you do the journey again. I live in London- straighter roads but speed bumps which I now look at with fear and loathing as they come up when I'm on the bus Grin
dead I'm expecting a boy too and you're right clothes shopping/making isn't as fun! Although with a winter baby I think you could have quite a few cute little hats to dress him up in!
Re nightmares- poor you and I understand why you are still shaken up. All very well to say 'just hormones' but I had some real shockers earlier on in both pregnancies, can remember bits about serial killers, children in danger etc, very vivid and horrible. I limit reading and tv watching to very bland stuff that wouldn't scare a 6 year old when pg!! I went through a phase of re-reading children's books in 1st pg, avoided adult books altogether. Watching/reading some children's stuff might help you get rid of the memory of the dream.
Hello to everyone else xx

DeadDoorpost · 13/07/2017 14:13

dafodil yeah i might try making some hats but I'm not sure yet.

I found this link just now... And what I've taken from it is that it's not the baby but us that can't cope anymore. (Not that that's what it says but I'm now hoping my body hates being pregnant more than the baby starts getting bored of being inside me)

Natsku · 13/07/2017 15:04

On the plus side I found a shop selling handmade baby clothes in the most beautiful colourful design. Can't afford to buy now but will definitely order something for this baby later on!

Natsku · 13/07/2017 15:05

Baby clothes over here tend to be quite gender neutral and very colourful so fun buying for girls and boys. Can't bloody wait to get my baby box!

HaichM · 13/07/2017 16:12

Thanks for the link Dead. That's me at the moment. I had two mums at DS' school tell me I looked exhausted this morning, which I was so happy to hear. It did surprise me a little though as I actually had a decent night's sleep last night. I'm currently experiencing my second day in a row of bouts of Braxton hicks, tightenings, pelvic pressure from baby pressing downwards and lower back pain. The idea of 2.5 weeks (or more) of this is disheartening - the only consolation is my HG symptoms are still in the mild band.

27 sorry you've had to join us.
Bean glad the scan was ok in the end
natsku sorry about the mess up with the medication. I can completely sympathise with the bus journey as mine to work had a big section of bendy country roads that just made me feel terrible.

Sorry for everyone having fun with weird dreams and nightmares. I haven't had any nightmares in a while and my dreams are usually a bit strange, if I remember them.

Natsku · 13/07/2017 17:04

Probably should have called ahead to make sure they haven't but didn't expect them not to as its a bigger town than my home town. The pharmacist also insisted that she had to call my doctor to make sure the dosage is right despite me already being on it for two weeks which seems odd. Dreading the journey tomorrow and wondering whether my mum can just pick if up for me if I give her my social security card. Maybe I'll call in the morning and ask.

Mumoftheark · 13/07/2017 17:40

Thanks everyone,
My appointment is actually tomorrow morning, not sure why I thought it was today 😂 Really struggling today, still haven't kept anything down since Monday. Definitely need to be rehydrated. Feeling desperate now. Just tried an ice lolly - came back up within 10 seconds of finishing it - prettiest sick I've had yet lol.
I would have gone to A&E already but my husbands away this week and I'm on my own with my 5 & 2 year old. I don't drive and my hospital takes over an hour to get to if on the train. My daughter had a settling in session at pre school today - where I was sick - not my best moment!
I've just falsed myself to have a bit of completely plain rice. Boring as hell. Im so so hungry. I can feel that I've got about 3 minutes before it comes up but I needed something before I pass out :(
This is horrible isn't it

LucindaE · 13/07/2017 18:04

Welcome to MamaofHaik and Harper27. You've already had great advice. I was actually on a farcical trip to bring DD's student house mattress back home. Thought we'd never get it in the car. Grin MamaofHaik I am shocked that they were prepared at the surgery to let it to that long when a pregnant woman not retaining fluids for 48 hours is generally thought an emergency. I hope you are already at A and E as others recommended. Hopefully you will get effective meds, but just in case you get really ill again, do invest in some kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration. I've added you to the list of due dates. I so agree with whoever said ice lollies are good for getting down lluids, and ice cubes, soda water, flat full sugar coke, and the juice and fruit of tinned fruit, and Elderflower water, Dr Pepper, Lucozade, orange squash, sips of chocolate milkshake (maybe soya) and slices of melon and coconut milk. Foods some can stand are cuppa soup, cheap ice cream and nibbles of crisps. A disgusting diet, I agree, but the sugary and salty stuff seems most bearable.
07Harper Welcome. Sorry you had some difficulty finding us, as above for keostix and liquids recommendations. Twins! How exciting!
I have noticed one thing with twins, though the mothers suffered early on, they did get better earlier, possibly because in a singleton pregnancy they would have escaped Hyperemesis entirely? That's just a guess. It does get a lot better for most people between 15 and 20 weeks on average, and only a very few suffer as badly later on as they did in the first awful bit.
beanhunter So glad that all is well.
DeadDoorPost That's a lovely baby outfit. On nightmares, whether or not it is psychological, I have always found that imagining a silver blue circle enclosing the bed is the thing! I think the horomones do it.
Natsku That does sound awful. I hope they have the right meds in asap.
I hope everyone isn 't too bad today.

MumofHeark Oh no (and I got your name wrong).I hope you saw my welcome anyway. Oh dear, about even ice lollies not staying put. Ice cubes? Flat coke? Probably no better. I am concerned about your holding out until tomorrow in this state - you will be very severely dehydrated by then. Do you have headache or blurry vision or a confused feeling? As others say, the blood is probably from the throat, but doctors do like to check that.
New list, with the right name.

Mumoftheark Oh dear, would you believe, I've got it wrong again, I hope you saw my concern below. In these extreme circumstances, you might need an ambulance and for the hospital to have the LO's there while you are rehydrated. Sorry about the due dates absurdities. The mattress fiasco has driven me into insanity, I think! Here we are, with Mumoftheark - not the other versions.

Hi all. Lemondrop advised me to come aboard.

Feeling very angst by head of department saying to me today "Maybe you're not as far gone as you thought? Sickness at your stage is very off Confused"

I'm 22 weeks, have been violently sick since week 6. And have only returned to work quite recently x

Natsku · 13/07/2017 18:43

mum I'm quite worried for you, that is too long to be without fluids. I agree with lucinda these are quite extreme circumstances and an ambulance to the hospital would probably be the right thing right now unless someone can give you a lift. Don't worry about the children - I've had to go to hospital with DD many times and its always been OK, once they even took her to the children's ward (to her own too so not with sick children) as it was late at night so she could sleep. Take phone or tablet with you so they can watch cartoons to pass the time.
