The wait for labour

Anyone up for a support thread for those of us waiting to go into labour? I am 37 +2 today. My first baby was born at 39 + 6 but I was in prelabour from 38 + 6. I am on maternity leave and I have lots of things I would like to do but nothing I really need to do. The bags are packed. Just waiting now. Anyone else?

When I was crying in pain last night they gave me some oramorph & it did take the edge off a bit but I'm one of those annoying people with a fairly high tolerance to drugs so just wanted the gas & air. I'm terrified of things progressing & not being allowed anything stronger until I get to the labour ward. I really hope they don't put anyone else in this room with me, for their sake not mine. I wouldn't want to be stuck next to someone like me in labour Confused

SunshineAllTheWhile · 23/05/2017 14:35

Oh goodness JonSnow thinking of you! For the love of of God! Why won't they just give you some bloody gas & air?!!

JonSnowsWhore · 24/05/2017 01:43

I think you're all going to have your babies before I do!

Glitterbaby17 · 24/05/2017 01:54

Can I join you ladies? Was due on 22nd but no sign of her yet. Getting some back ache and lots of BH and her heads only 2/5 palpable but midwife tried a sweep on Monday and cervix is still behind the babies head. Really don't want to be induced so hope she gets a move on 😳

Spam88 · 24/05/2017 03:59

JonSnow sorry to hear you're having such a bad time of it :( my hospital was the same - no pain relief until I got to the birthing suite from the antenatal ward, which took about two hours from when they confirmed I was in active labour. So you very much have my sympathy! And I was in a bay with 5 other women who I felt very sorry for, I even heard one of them saying 'I'm glad I'm booked in for a c-section....' It won't be long now though. Just try and rest when you can and keep your fluids up, you'll have pain relief soon! Where are you at with regards to induction - will you be having another pessary or are you on to a drip next?

JonSnowsWhore · 24/05/2017 04:17

I've had the 2 different types of pessaries, she's got me on the monitor again now for 15 mins then going to see if she can break my waters yet to get things going. I've never had them broken without a shit tonne of drugs & outside of the labour ward before so I'm quite scared! Had to have 2 more doses of oramorph tonight so now I'm all drowsy again

Spam88 · 24/05/2017 04:27

Embrace the drowsiness. Hopefully things should get going for you soon then :)

Sorry Jon that sounds really hard. Hope things start properly for you very soon, fingers crossed today is the day!

Hi glitter!

gigi556 · 24/05/2017 07:08

Jon, sounds awful! Sorry to hear it's not working. ConfusedI was hoping to wake up to news of the arrival of another baby!!!

Applesandpears23 · 24/05/2017 07:36

I couldn't sleep last night. The heartburn has returned plus lots of braxton hicks (whole belly unpleasantly rigid but not sore). I thought here we go but I must have dozed off about 4am and slept for a couple of hours. Planning to go back to bed later as I am really tired.

To add to all the other aches, pains and generally uncomfortableness My hormones must be going mental because everything is setting me off in floods of tears Blush A few days ago I was happy and excited but now I'm an emotional wreck. Hopefully it switches back again soon!!

Badgerbird · 24/05/2017 09:49

I hear you frizzee, I just cried coz I had to cancel on some friends today Confused
After 2 days back and forth to hospital taking up precious nesting/getting shit done before I pop and a night of sweats and period type pains I've decided to cancel seeing friends and see how I feel later after getting some stuff done/ having a rest. Be kind to yourself, our bodies are doing some crazy stuff!

Blimey jon I really hope today is the day!!

Hi glitter :)

gigi556 · 24/05/2017 10:29

Frizzee, don't turn on the news... Stuff that is sad just makes it worse. I can't watch or read anything about the Manchester attacks without balling my eyes out Sad

Spam88 · 24/05/2017 11:00

Hopefully the lack of post from Jon for a few hours means things are happening 🤞

To those suffering with heartburn, I had it all through my labour as well which frankly I just thought was ridiculous. The midwife has probably never seen anyone as excited as when she told me I'd have to take a ranitidine because I wasn't allowed food 😂

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 24/05/2017 11:37

Missmoo just wondered what was going on at your end? I think I read that losing the plug usually means labour will happen within 48 hours...hope things are moving for you?

Cel982 · 24/05/2017 13:34

How's everyone doing? Just back from midwife who did a stretch and sweep - head is really low, membranes bulging, cervix 75% effaced and stretching to 5cm Shock She couldn't believe I wasn't having contractions already. So it looks like things could kick off pretty soon and might happen very quickly when they do.

Just hope we make it to the hospital in time - I had retained placenta and a bit of a haemorrhage first time around so not really suitable for an unplanned homebirth...

Jon, hope things have started to happen for you, and you've got some pain relief. Missmoo, any news?

ItsNiceItsDifferentItsUnusual · 24/05/2017 13:45
