I'm thinking of some unusual names for baby and can't decide whether it would be a blessing (being individual) or a curse (forever having to repeat it/spell it)? Any advice/experience y ou gals can give me?

My name is Welsh so isn't all that common outside Wales, but there were 3 of us in my class at Secondary school and we were referred to as name B, nameT and nameL (or Brown, Thomas and Lloyd) which wasn't all that nice.

A friend gave me a great idea for naming babies, she named her little girl after a character from her favourite book. It works for me too(if I have a litte lady) as mine is Scout from To Kill A Mockingbird which I love, but DH isn't convinced. If it's a boy I'd like Boo (which is what we're calling baby at the moment). Thoughts?

Is that Boo as in Boo Radley from TKaM? I really like the name Scout -isn't there a celebrity Scout out there as well?

Yeah Boo Radley, although the little girl from Monsters Inc is called Boo too. I think Demi Moore's girls are called Scout and Rumor.
I know Boo is a bit silly, but DH would pick it over Atticus any day!

I like Boo (Monsters Inc too!!) and Scout very cool names!!

Twinkie · 29/06/2004 18:16

Yes Dino I said to DP that he was a tosser calling his son that and nearly got dumped - forgot for a moment that Big Tone is God!!

Bibiboo · 29/06/2004 18:20

Who is Tony Adams ..? Should I know?

Twinkie · 29/06/2004 18:28

Used to play for England and Captain Arsenal - yes you should know unless you have lived under a stone for the last 10 years!!

WideWebWitch · 29/06/2004 18:37

I like Malo too, and Milo. Not sure about Blake Dinosaur, it's growing on me though from reading it 2 mins ago and thinking not sure to now, thinking hmmm. Really like Noah and Theo too but they're not v unusual now.

Bibiboo · 29/06/2004 18:44

Okay, so I quite literally know NOTHING about football, Tony Adams still means nothing to me. The only think I do know about football is that Thierry Henry is GORGEOUS (and he's going to marry me) Pregnancy has not only given me moose brain, I'm delirious now as well!

Iolo is pronounced Yollo.

Umm, well that's the best i can do. Not sure you'll get the right sound from that.

Bibiboo · 29/06/2004 18:53

Oooh, what about Vianne? Chocolat was a great book (and lovely film), so a nice name, non?

OP posts:
Bibiboo · 29/06/2004 18:54

I think for Iolo "Yollo" is about right, as long as the "o"s are short as in orange not own iykwim

Twinkie I have hung out with TA in the cafe in the park while Atticus (??) and his sister played with my dog

Twinkie · 29/06/2004 19:04

Wow how cool!! - DP plays golf at the same club and sometimes with Ian Wright - he is always super chuffed afterwards - DD met him once - 'that man wears silly trousers mummy' was all she had to say - think it was the +4s!!

And I have slept with Thierry, Robert and Freddie (Well in my sad little fantasies!! - they were great though )

Northerner · 29/06/2004 19:07

Belgrano?

Tommy · 29/06/2004 23:02

I heard about a woman who couldn't decide on Jake or Milo for first baby..... obviously first as hadn't been indoctrinated into Tweenies yet

Judd · 29/06/2004 23:08

My friend went to the Registry office in Stockport yesterday and the lady there told her that they have had a baby boy registered as Rooney already !

Bibiboo · 29/06/2004 23:19

Twinkie, slept with Thierry?! You can't have, he told me he's saving himself for me! No fair!
Couldn't ever call baby boy Thierry thuogh, no matter how gorgeous he is!

Calling a child Rooney is just wrong. At least Atticus is a real name.

Ooh lots of fun here. Bibiboo and others, I love Mabel, thought no-one else liked it! (DH certainly not). The only child I know of with DD's name has a sister called Mabel and one called Florence which was goign to be Ds2's name. Bibiboo some of your suggestions are great (like Noah and Esme and Elsie) but are you serious with Scout and Boo? Especially Boo??? Well sorry to be rude but you did ask. IMHO it's a mistake to float names to people; thing to do is tell them when babe is born then no-one can say anything (unless they are very rude). LOL over toddler kenneth; I know of a Trevor and a Geoffrey, both sound like 40yos to me.

spacemonkey · 30/06/2004 04:01

my ds is called guy so POO to anyone who doesn't like it

my name is amelia which used to be unusual but is now in the top 50
