sorry for being presumptuous enough to start a new thread but I had so much to catch up on and fill you in on...

hiya all - finally settled and have pc at home!! Singapore was wonderful if exhausting. The heat took a lot out of me but it was great to have the break before we headed into the move again. We are in our house and settled - almost unpacked - just books and non essentials left to sort out.

had my first real ante natal appt last week - found a great GP - very approachable and very pro - woman's choice re: everything - amount and type of testing - I had three hospitals to choose from. She then did a proper antenatal consultation and I got to hear the baby's heart beat - great I also have my referral for my scan but have yet to have a date.

Halfway( 20 weeks) today - EDD is 5th November.

Over here the antenatal care is either shared between the GP and the hospital consultant or is all hospital based - there are a couple of midwife led birthing units but very hard to get into - done by ballot system and at this late stage no way I would even get a look in.

Gp was brilliant - took all I had to tell her about last pregnancy in her stride and rather than preaching and assuming what I wanted ( like the GP and midwife in UK) she asked me what I wanted.

Unlike the UK - homebirths are extremely rare - I have decided to have a hospital birth in the major hospital for the state - should anything like last time happen again I am right there rather than having to be transferred or having the baby transferred.

Now I just have to wait for them to get back to me with an anomaly scan date. Hopefully all being well - next week.

Glad to hear all is well with everyone else - baby is moving and heard it swishing around whilst the GP was trying to hear the heartbeat. Definitely in maternity clothes now - got some good jeans from George/ASDA before we left.

Take care....

collision - we were not bothered one way or the other - as it was the babe was in no position to reveal anything. With dd we asked - only cause we had the news about her heart defect and down's syndrome and wanted something positive to balance that....

i know the hospital trust where I would have had no 2 had we stayed in the UK make it a policy not to tell and advise you not to ask - only exception - if it is a genetically inherited condition attached to a specific gender (iykwim)

possibly a bay just cause this pregnancy is somewhat different to last pregnancy and I am definitely a different shape...

that should be a boy not a bay

I didn't find out the sex.. but must admit that I was much more tempted to this time, and I think that's cos most of you guys know! Glad I didn't ask though, it was nice to get the surprise I wanted last time, and this time... I can honestly say I don't really mind either way!

Hi everyone,
I've been having cramps too and I didn't get them last time. My mw says sipping tonic water can help.

I'm starting to feel quite big and heavy and sleeping is getting a bit uncomfortable. I'm having to prop my weight on pillows etc already and I have to get up to the loo at least twice. And I'm still only 22 weeks (23 tomorrow). How are you all feeling?

We have the builders in for the next couple of weeks putting a new roof on our house, so all is noise and chaos. I'm hoping ds will still be able to nap okay otherwise life is going to be very difficult - I count on being able to put my feet up for a bit during the day and ds is HORRID if he doesn't have enough sleep.

Have a good weekend!

Twinkie · 16/07/2004 14:18

Hello all - cramps, restless legs, reflux and rib pain here too - oh what joy!!

Am one day infront of you Vivie in terms of dates and feel like a bus - think I am having an elephant!!

Have 23 week scan on Monday and we are taking DD so she can see her brother - although she is the only one who does not know it is a boy - she has decided that it is now called 'Little oNe' thuogh rather than Blue Flower which we are all relieved about!!

eidsvold · 17/07/2004 04:04

well I am an aunty again - my db and sil had a little girl yesterday afternoon - about 8lbs something.... ( db not sure) named her Sienna Jade.

OP posts:
Samcj · 17/07/2004 12:28

Congrats to you all!! I like the name Sienna!!

vivie · 17/07/2004 13:54

Twinkie, I saw a friend yesterday who is 33 weeks and my bump is bigger than hers. If you're having an elephant I think I must be having a whale!

bunny2 · 17/07/2004 23:41

ahhh

NannyJo · 18/07/2004 13:09

I don't understand it i'm 25 weeks now and still am no where near to even fitting in to maternity clothes. My clothes are too small bar about 2 pairs of trousers (which I am living in monday to friday at the mo!!) but yesterday I decided to unt again for clothes and they just fall off me?? Iknow I shouldn't complain really cos I have no aches, pains etc. Afraid though that i'll wake up one morning and I will have ballooned over night.

Samcj · 18/07/2004 13:42

Just found out I've failed the degree course I did earlier on in the year. Kicking myself for not going to see anyone about at the time, to see if I could defer etc. I had to work on it and get it finished when it seemed all my life was falling apart, when I first found out I was pregnant and DP told me he was going to leave because he didn't want the baby. So I'm feeling quite miserable and sorry for myself, not least because I've only got 3 weeks to re-do it.

bunny2 · 18/07/2004 14:15

Sam, that sounds rough. Sorry. Apparently around this time we are meantto get a burst of energy so perhaps you'll find the inner resources to get your work redone over the coming weeks. Hope so.

Lilismum · 18/07/2004 15:16

Hi, I haven't posted here since I first found out I was pregnant but have been checking how everyone is doing. Had my scan today and its a boy as well! Must be something about November babies. Samcj we are thinking to call ours Benjamin too, after my father.

Take care

webmum · 18/07/2004 17:19

samjc

poor you, you seems to be having a rough time these days. Hope it will get better!

I'm starting to get worried about my weight gain, I already feel the size of a small hippo, and I cna't imagine what I'll be like by the end of it!!!

on a +ve note, I've visited the birth centre at my local hospital and its fantastic, single rooms, private bathrooms, no restrictions on visiting hours, strictly for low risk musm though, so fingers crossed this little one will be like his/her big sister and have a textbook birth!!

PotPourri · 18/07/2004 20:18

As Sam. Chin up love (). Hopefully you may well have a boost of energy and get it done as Bunny suggests. I am still trying to finish off my professional course (am months late with the one and only thing between me and the letters after my name - my dissertation). I have been threatened with big charges now and having to do the whole 3 years all over again, and as a result have just recently (as of yesterday) had a burst to get on and do it. I am hoping to just get on as I do feel like I have positive energy right now, so am trying to capitalise on it. So we can be study buddies together!

Phoned the clinic today and they are going to post my notes to me, as I am not having the scan and you usually collect it there. Anyone know how you get that MATB1 form that you need for work? I am not seeing hte doctor til 24 weeks, and the midwife at 28 (currently only 20 wks), and I need the form by 25 weeks latest to inform my employer formally.

Lillismum - you fit in very well. We really are populating the world with boys this November!!

Oh, by the way, a girl gave up her seat for me on the train the other day. I was so happy about that and was gushing thanks to her like a loon. But it restored my faith in the general populace (for now)

Samcj · 18/07/2004 22:09

Hi PP, sorry you are having problems too, a bit of a cr*ppy time to be having problems with studying isn't it? I'm not feeling too negative, I had a fair idea I would fail, got the envolope this morning, without even opening it I could see the word fail. But I'm sure normally I'd of got really upset, obviously I am but normally I'd be blubbering all day! Anyway, I've collected my paper and I'm now beavering away trying to tinker with it and carry out the changes they've suggested. And I am feeling quite well and lively today, I only hope it lasts for some of the next three weeks!

Thanks to everyone for commiserating with me you are all very sweet.

Mum2Ela, I was wondering what had happened to you, you hadn't posted on here since your scan I don't think, I take it everything is going well for you?

And PP, I went and collected my MAT B1 today, I wasn't given it at my app last week and my next one isn't untill 26 weeks, which I thought was too late. But it says on the form it should not be filled out more than 14 weeks before due date. I'm sure I was told that I had to inform the employer by 15 weeks before, but I am very confused. The midwife was just as confused. Which was helpful. I'm wondering if you have to 'announce' it by that time, then come up trumps with the mat B1 a few weeks later? I'm sure someone else on here will have a better idea though.

Samcj · 18/07/2004 22:14

Sorry, didn't mean to be rude, welcome to Lilismum! Lovely to have you with us! Someone surely has to soon join Arwenevenstar over there!!!

arwenevenstar · 19/07/2004 09:49

Yes, blub I feel a little lonely! Not to mention I haven't done girls before so could do with some experienced girlie mum help too! Never mind, she'll have her pick of the crop when she's older with all these boys about!!!

Sam, how do you feel about your results.....stupid question I know, what I mean is, do you think you want to re-sit or not? Can you do that?
Good luck anyway.

Hi to Lilismum - we haven't met yet

Is there anyone else due for their scan soon?

Take care

eidsvold · 19/07/2004 10:15

hiya lilismum...

sorry to hear about your results Sam...

Any like me second/third time mum's - just wanted to know - does it get easier with two?!?!? or is the second a big shock?!?!?

I figure routine for dd and we are having her start to go to nursery again - it is clear she misses the interaction she had when she was full time nursery - I am sure she got more than her fair share of attention....I will need to find a good nursery here .. and see what happens...

second question - girls or boys easier?!?!?

Just curious.....

eidsvold · 19/07/2004 10:17

and pp - from memory last time I put my MATB1 form in around 26 weeks.... got it from my midwife.... ( could be wrong - it was two years ago now... or more than that - considering dd is two in a couple of weeks!!)

OP posts:
bunny2 · 19/07/2004 19:21

eidsvold, it's #2 for me and I think it is going to be hard work! My main concern is getting ds to school on time (he starts Reception in September) with a baby attacjed to my breast! Still, we'll figure it out.

vivie · 19/07/2004 22:07

Welcome lilismum and bad luck samcj. I hope you get your rush of energy.

I got my MatB1 from my mw last time, but I have midwifery led care (I don't see a doc at all unless I have problems) so I couldn't get it anywhere else, and as I'm a FTM now I'm afraid I can't remember when you're meant to get it.

It is strange how many of us are having boys! I saw a friend and her 2 week old dd today and I felt very strange. It'll be us soon! I'd forgotten how tiny and floppy newborns are. Awwww...

Flossam · 19/07/2004 22:26

What's happened to this thread? All the dates of postings seem to have got all muddled? Or is it just my computer?!

gingernut · 19/07/2004 22:38

Sam, it's happened to lots of threads and they are going to try and fix it tonight.

Hi everyone, back from hols. Had a great time and didn't really want to come back, although I struggled a bit with all the walking, got quite achey.

Will write more some other time, I've had a bad headache for several days now so I'm off to bed. I think it might be sinusitis as paracetamol's not touching it .

BTW, for the cramp try extra calcium (I've been drinking Tropicana with calcium and taking Boots chewable calcium tablets and it seems to have worked).
