Today I've been admitted to hospital and told my baby will need to be delivered in next 24 hours due to poor growth and almost no waters. Baby is only measuring at 1lb 2oz with a less than 50% chance of survival. My husband and I are devastated and terrified. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Titchypanda · 15/10/2016 01:29

Thanks everyone. She's back on a breathing tube as she was struggling a little and has had a transfusion today. Her sats are better this evening. We heard her cry and she's opened her eyes. Met the Mum of baby in cot next door and they are in similar situation but 2 weeks further one. It's nice to be able to talk to someone. Thanks got all the support and kind wishes x

Signoritawhocansway · 15/10/2016 07:35

Thanks for updating us, titchy. What gestation was she when born? Remember it's all baby steps. And well done for making NICU buddies... we're still in contact with ours three years on.x.

Frazzled2207 · 15/10/2016 07:51

Congratulations. Sounds like she's doing well overall. Great that you've found another mum to chat to. Sending lots of best wishes Flowers

Mermaid36 · 15/10/2016 07:56

It's so special when they cry/open their eyes! Well done ReallyTitchyPanda!!

My girls had lots of transfusions, up to being about 11 weeks old. Their bodies just weren't big enough to make enough cells.

We are still in touch with our NICU friends 6 months on. We're going to have a meet up in November!

Make sure you look after yourself and MrTitchyPanda as well. Plenty to eat and drink and as much sleep as you can manage

BusterGonad · 15/10/2016 08:55

My son had about 4 blood transfusions, one every 3 to 4 weeks, it's nothing to panic over, they just need the extra boost! X

RTKangaMummy · 15/10/2016 10:15

That is lovely that she has opened her eyes SmileSmileSmile

Please don't worry about the blood transfusion she will feel better after a little boost, DS had so many of them I don't remember how many

Also going back onto the oxygen intubation tube will mean she doesn't have to work so hard to breathe and so can use her energy to get stronger, DS was on it for ages until he decided to start to pull it out himself repeatedly, so they put him on CPAP which again he was on for ages then low flow then nothing (was very strange to see him in the NNU without any oxygen pipes)

Yes NNU ITU friends are excellent as they know what you are going through, we are still friends with a couple we met there 21 years later, although we haven't met up in years as they moved abroad so it is Christmas cards and texts/emails now

Hope you are feeling a bit stronger after your surgery Flowers

Sending {{{cyberhugs}}} to all the TitchyPanda family especially TinyTitchyPanda SmileSmileSmile

Artandco · 15/10/2016 10:30

Hope you had a good day with her Panda

Ditsy4 · 16/10/2016 04:18

Congratulations.
I will say a little prayer for her. My eldest was in SCBU and my niece had all of hers early the last one at 26 weeks and a happy toddler now. It is a scary time but remember to look after yourself too as you have had a major operation. So plenty of rest and a few treats to get you back on your feet. Get hubby to get you some Floridex ( I think that's it) from chemist as it has lots of vitamins in it. Someone bought me a bottle for baby 3 as she said baby would get enough present and this was for me. It was great as it gave me a boost to get back on my feet( I had a bit of a traumatic three weeks) and although it has a bit of a. Strange flavour I felt it was doing me good. Get some fruit too as you may only feel like snacking and although chocolate is yummy fruit will be better for you.
I hope all goes well. My eldest pulled though despite an unlikely outcome as he was born not breathing. We had up and downs with him for a few weeks and that was over thirty years ago so not the training or equipment they have now. I wish you both well.

LBNM19 · 17/10/2016 14:14

Hi, how is your baby girl? I was reading this the other day and now my waters have done at 27+4 looks like my baby boy will be born very soon. Im terrified. Waitint for nicu to come and talk to me x

hels18 · 17/10/2016 15:57

Thinking of you, hope she continues to be a little fighter xx

Mermaid36 · 17/10/2016 16:47

I don't usually post pictures, however, I thought I'd share this. My girls are now 6 months old (actual) but only 3 months corrected (born at 26+1).
You can see how teeny tiny and fragile they were when they arrived and how beautiful and smiley they are now, even with oxygen tubes etc on Grin
NICU is bloody hard work, enough to drive you mad - please look after yourself.

Oh Mermaid - your beautiful angels. My eyes have just filled and my ovaries have definitely skipped a beat. They are SO gorgeous and SO happy. Congratulations! I cannot imagine what you have been through, but what a prize.

OP, so keen to know how your little one is doing when you have the time and energy.

Titchypanda · 17/10/2016 17:56

Thank you all for your kind wishes. We had a wobble yesterday evening and had the sit down bad news chat with consultant. She pulled through and her Sats are stable. She has continued to astound us with her progress and it's hour by hour whilst she grows. It's the most terrifying thing and my husband and I are finding it hard. He just wants to see her and know she is ok then go home, Whereas I want to stay for hours. I am hoping that our little girl stays fiesty and keeps fighting.

For the lady who asked, she was born at 25+3 Gestation. She's 5 days old now.
