Today I've been admitted to hospital and told my baby will need to be delivered in next 24 hours due to poor growth and almost no waters. Baby is only measuring at 1lb 2oz with a less than 50% chance of survival. My husband and I are devastated and terrified. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I finally got to see my Beabop after a week apart! I cried happy tears when I saw her. She had been on low flow oxygen for 12 hours when I left the hospital. The doctor decided to see how long she can manage on it for. She may need to go back onto cpap. Tried a bottle again today, we're trying to get her back onto them in the hope that in a few weeks she might not need to be tube fed anymore. She has changed so much. Very alert and curious. We had cuddles and I've started reading the first Harry Potter book to her. The nurses are saying if she's still on low flow in a couple of days, she could be going up to special care in a week and possibly home at 41/42 weeks. She's currently 37 + 4 corrected (12 weeks actual). My husband is still too poorly to visit, but hopefully he'll be able to in couple of days. Bea is now second oldest on the unit. The time has flown by but taken ages at the same time. It's certainly a rollercoaster!

Just read this and my thoughts and prayers are with you - really hope Bea strengthens and pulls through.

LondonRoo · 06/01/2017 23:11

Lovely that you're able to be with her again... You must have been climbing the walls not to be able to see or hold her!!

Hope things are onwards and upwards from here.

Just catching up with your thread! I'm sorry that you missed seeing Bea when you were ill. It's horrible (I had a d&v bug when the girls were in hospital).

She sounds like she is doing really well though, and putting on weight.
Our girls were 16 weeks in NICU/NNU altogether, so ridiculously old!!

Little champ you have there xx

MadisonAvenue · 11/01/2017 10:47

Lovely update Titchy! Bea coming home seems so close now!

Hope that Mr Titchy is feeling better now.

Titchypanda · 12/01/2017 20:29

Hi All, after my last update, I caught the virus again and hadn't seen Bea for 5 days until today. My hubby finally got to see her after 2 weeks away. She is doing ok. She had to go onto high flow as wasn't coping on low flow. She's on 5L and settled. She had her 2nd lot of imms yesterday and seems fine. She has ROP stage 2&3 and pre plus disease so will likely be having laser eye surgery soon.

Today we gave Bea her first bath. She seemed to enjoy it! She had a bottle, stories, cuddles and peed on me!

She is 3 months old today and the oldest baby on the unit now. She's probably going to be in hospital for another 1-2 months depending on how well she recovers from surgery, as she will be vented for 3 days and then she has to get back to how she was before.

Her little face lights up my life.

Happy 3 months Bea SmileSmileSmile

Sorry that you have been unwell again Titchy Sad

Is that the eye damage that is caused by oxygen ventilation? SadSadSad

Glad she enjoyed her bath SmileSmileSmile then bottle and story time SmileSmileSmile

I remember the excitement of giving DS his 1st bath in the NNU SmileSmileSmile

UnoriginalNN · 13/01/2017 15:35

So much going round, damn time of year. Bet your DH was desperate to see her!

3 months old already Shock

Mermaid36 · 18/01/2017 07:38

Happy 3 months Bea!!
I loved the first bath (in hospital, obviously), the girls were 10 weeks old and still on CPAP, but it was still amazing!

Will you stay in Neonatal Titchy or will you be moved to Paediatrics?

Kanga yes, ROP is caused by oxygen usage. Excess oxygen (ie more than 21% which is air) can damage blood vessels in the eye. Babies born after 32/33 weeks are ok, as their eyes have developed.

RTKangaMummy · 18/01/2017 11:28

Thanks Mermaid I remember DS being tested but didn't remember the name

Titchypanda · 18/01/2017 11:42

Hi Mermaid, she will stay on neonatal unit until discharged.

She's still in high dependency.

She's being reviewed again on Friday for her ROP. Seems that Laser surgery is the plan, but the doctor will decide how urgently she needs it at review.

She's a chunky little madam at 5lb4oz now! She has started taking full bottles. She's allowed 2-3 a day as she gets tired. She's still on high flow 5L. She seems to like around 50% oxygen. She is 100 days on Thursday and her due date is Sunday!

I've seen this thread for the first time this evening and I'm all teary. What a beautiful daughter you've got! How are you feeling now? I can't begin to imagine how hard this must have been for you and your husband.

MollyHuaCha · 18/01/2017 21:38

My first time reading this thread too. What a gorgeous little girl. The photos of Mummy and Bea are beautiful. My DC1 was in special care even though he was born at a whopping 8lb 12oz. I remember the tiny babies in the unit. The care everyone received was amazing. Congratulations Titchy and Bea's Daddy and Happy 100th Day Bea. Bear

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 18/01/2017 22:18

I remember reading the start of this thread back in October and have just read the whole 21 pages with tears in my eyes. Titchy she's absolutely gorgeous and its so lovely to know she's moving forwards.
How are you getting on in terms of accessing support for PND/PTSD?
