Today I've been admitted to hospital and told my baby will need to be delivered in next 24 hours due to poor growth and almost no waters. Baby is only measuring at 1lb 2oz with a less than 50% chance of survival. My husband and I are devastated and terrified. Has anyone been in a similar situation?

I love reading your updates about Bea!

Flumplet · 03/12/2016 22:17

Wowee that is a gorgeous photo!! She looks great Titch.

Titchypanda · 04/12/2016 11:53

Our little Bea bop is still on cpap and doctors are planning on trying high flow in next few days. She's still having trouble going to the toilet, but otherwise settled. She's 7 and a half weeks now. She pulls lots of faces and loves her food. She's now 2lb8oz and we have lots of cuddles.

Titchy is that Vapotherm/Optiflow? It's so much better once they have those masks off their face! Plus it's quieter for them (and you) too!

Titchypanda · 04/12/2016 13:44

I'm not sure mermaid, they just call it high flow here

Having all the contact and cuddles will be doing her so much good. How are you feeling titchy ?

Titchypanda · 04/12/2016 22:27

I'm doing ok saffron. We are managing. We have been clearing out junk in the house and begun thinking about the possibility of Bea coming home. We love having cuddles. They have begun weaning to 2 hourly feeds today.

So pleased to hear such positive news Flowers

Bea is still on high flow, she seems ok on it. She is fine on 2 hourly feeds, loves her cuddles, infact she prefers being out of the incubator to being in! We have discovered she does not like hats! She had a blood transfusion yesterday and was a bit grumpy as she had a cannula in after over 2 weeks with no lines in. But happy once it was out. She's really alert, always looking round. She lifts her head up and can roll from her side to her back. She sticks her tongue out a lot and is learning how to suck on dummy so we can try bottles in time. She's 2lb9oz and in HDU next to her first icu neighbour. All her group of tinies have moved over now and there is a new batch is the icu. It feels strange not being the smallest anymore! We read her stories every night and she has gone up a clothes size to 3-4lb vests. I'm excited to see her little face everyday.

MadisonAvenue · 14/12/2016 14:12

Lovely update Titchy, I hope that you and Bea are having a good week!

Titchypanda · 16/12/2016 11:46

Hi All! Bea is still in HDU on high flow. They weaned her down very quickly to 5L, then she started struggling and having big desats. Is back on 6L and in high oxygen, so we're expecting to go back to 7L or cpap this weekend if the trend continues. She still struggles to go to the toilet without a suppository, which makes her cranky and unsettled, so needing more oxygen because of that. She had her 8 week immunisations but they hit her quite hard and she was a bit poorly. She's currently on antibiotics as she might have an infection, they're waiting on screening results.

Now for the positives! She now weighs a whopping 3lb8oz. 10oz gain in a week, so they decided not to increase her feeds by much to get her on track for a more normal gain. She's been having bits of feed from bottle, had a full bottle feed yesterday. She's almost gone up another clothes size again! We had our first smile and she has started to copy her Daddy. When he blinks, she blinks and when he sticks his tongue out, she does too! She likes sitting up and looking around, she's very curious. She still loves her stories, she's awake much more and rolls from her side to her back and always turning her head to look at something! She is a cheeky one and still very feisty and pulls or pops her prongs out a lot!

That is what we found NNU is a real mix of emotions as they have ups and downs

Amazing that she can suck on bottle and that she now weighs so much

One idea we were given was to put a mirror down the side of the cot so she can see herself and pull faces at herself also draw bold black and white patterns and pictures (like Smiley faces) to put down other side, black and white are good contrast for their eyes to focus on iyswim

UnoriginalNN · 16/12/2016 12:47

Fabulous updates OP, so so pleased to see that Bea is doing so well! What a star!

hufflepuf · 16/12/2016 20:24

It's great to hear that Bea is doing well!!! She sounds like a cheeky little monkey Grin

Sweetpeabec · 16/12/2016 23:14

Amazing news! Must be so nice to play silly faces with her, hope she keeps fighting her infection and that your feeling a bit better now xxx
