The hanging around is the worst!

I'm back at the hospital at 10 for another sweep. I'm not sleeping great just now which is not fun.

Can't believe I'm 9 days over Sad Baby seems happy enough wriggling away so that's reassuring.

HandbagFan · 19/02/2016 10:42

Contractions now between 3 and 8 minutes so not regular but there, and am just having a last rest before we head back over to the hospital. I'm working on the basis once I go in now I'm there to the bitter end!

purplepineapples · 19/02/2016 11:46

Good luck Handbag. Sounds like things are moving in the right direction!

I'm back after the sweep, not holding my breath, totally dejected about the whole process now.

The midwife spent a good while chatting to me before it about the induction process and advised more sex Hmm

Not even gonna say hopefully it'll happen before my induction appt because I've been saying that now for nearly 2 weeks.

babybat · 19/02/2016 15:36

Another growth scan today, baby's an estimated 9lb 9oz! Shock got another sweep tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful. Induction booked for Monday (42w) on the basis that I can still be in the MW led unit, and if two attempts at gel/pessary are unsuccessful, we'll go straight to CS, no drip. My mental health has really suffered these last two weeks, and I'm concerned that a traumatic labour would not be good for my postnatal MH, considering my history. MW seems to agree, so provided the consultant agrees tomorrow, we've got a plan for Monday.

KatyK1980 · 19/02/2016 16:07

Thanks for the congratulations ladies! I'm starting to recover now! According to my notes my total labor time was less than two hours, and ended in an emergency delivery, so I'm still a bit shocked by it all!

handbag hope all is going well for you, sounds like you will have your baby very soon!

pineapple fingers crossed your sweep will get things moving over the weekend. What time is your induction booked for on Monday?

babybat good to have a plan! Remember how inaccurate growth scans can be. I was convinced baby would be much bigger than he is!

KatyK1980 · 19/02/2016 16:08

whatsinaname how are you doing?

purplepineapples · 19/02/2016 19:47

That's good you're recovering KatyK.

Don't feel anything after today's sweep whereas was achy and bleeding after Monday's. Don't know if that makes a difference!

I've to go in for 8.30am on Monday for induction. I'm feeling very down about it all. The midwife today kept going on about how I really didn't want to have an induction but I can't really help that! So that just made me feel rubbish really.

Hope everything goes well for you babybat

On behalf of NotSpeaking :

Hi ladies, had my baby on Wednesday after being induced. Little boy was born at 9lb 4. However, after I suffered a massive haemorrhage and was rushed into theatre 4 hours after I gave birth. It was very scary and really thought I was going to die. So did the hospital staff they told me after. I'm recovering in hospital still but hopefully will be home tomorrow. Feel like I've been through a war but happy to still be alive. No thanks to a midwife that wasn't competent in her job and went on her break instead of checking me. Thank god for the other great midwives that took on the morning shift and helped save me straight away.

purplepineapples · 19/02/2016 21:50

Oh dear God NotSpeaking

I'm so glad you're doing okay, can't imagine how terrifying that would have been. Amazing you are able to go home tomorrow.

Take care of yourself and congratulations on the birth of your baby boy Flowers

HandbagFan · 19/02/2016 23:13

2nd pessary put in at 10 after being checked and cervix not doing much. Staying in tonight. Fingers crossed that 2nd time's a charm!

2ManySweets · 20/02/2016 06:52

Good luck handbag; if there's been no joy yet then you must be on your 3rd pessary by now?

If your cervix continues to be mega-unfavourable then get mentally prepared for a CS potentially if they can't get in to break your waters.

I'm on day 9 of post partum CS life and you know what? Things are on the up. I feel less like I've been in a car crash and now mire like a normal human.

Just thought I'd pop up to say whether you want a CS or not; should it look like the safest and most straightforward option it's not so bad.

Good luck x

(And congrats to other posters on safe arrivals - notspeaking I hope you feel better soon you brave, brave woman)

babybat · 20/02/2016 10:19

NotSpeaking sorry you had such a tough delivery, I hope you're feeling better soon and they let you go home. Congratulations on the birth of your DS!

HandbagFan · 20/02/2016 13:01

42+0 and still waiting! Contractions stopped last night and haven't come back. Waiting to be checked at 10pm tonight. Next attempt is gel for 6 hours and if that doesn't work it's looking like a C Section... This baby does not want to come out!!!

2ManySweets thanks for your message. I am trying to absorb that a c section may be where I end up. It's everything I didn't want - a drip, a cannula, an epidural, an operation... But I can't stay pregnant forever!

fififolle · 20/02/2016 17:17

Could I join you please? I'm 40+4 today. I was finding it very frustrating as I had DS at 39+1 but am now going with the flow. I had a sweep at 40 weeks which caused some cramping and increased Braxton Hicks. I had another at 40+2 but gave felt no discomfort since. Apparently I was 1cm dilated when they did it. I have a third booked for next Wednesday then induction booked for 28th. I've tried every remedy going but have figured that their only use is distraction! I have another acupuncture session booked for Monday and we've been going for plenty of long walks- weather permitting.
Good luck either the second lot of gel Handbag.

fififolle · 20/02/2016 17:18

with the third lot of gel Handbag*.

purplepineapples · 20/02/2016 20:16

Sorry things are taking so long for you Handbag ! How are you getting on with the hospital stay overall? (This is a concern of mine, long stay and on a ward with others and trying to get some rest). I'm open to a section (no pun intended!) if it is the most appropriate next step to get baby here safely. I know it's not your first choice but you'll be fine if that's what you need and then you'll have your cuddly newborn!

Hi fifi I have had a couple of sweeps too, the first one brought on my show and the second one has done nothing! I'm just getting my head round the fact I'll be going for induction on Monday. Not very happy about it but at the stage now I just want my baby in my arms.

purplepineapples · 20/02/2016 20:17

For those of you who have had an induction do you have any tips on anything I should take with me?? My bag is packed for after the birth so enough pjs and clothes for a stay after. Should I just take some more clothes with me? Did you take snacks?

fififolle · 20/02/2016 20:26

purple I was induced with DS. I'd definitely take snacks and drinks with a sports cap. It'll probably take a while so magazines and a book too. If they give you the gel first you'll have to walk around for 6hours so make sure you've got a cardi etc. As it's the drip controlling your contractions it is likely to be more painful, so don't be afraid to ask for pain relief (epidural) early on. All the best for Monday.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 20/02/2016 20:26

Signing up. 41w today, had my first sweep. Nothing beyond a bit of BH, but feeling headachey and nauseous.

purplepineapples · 20/02/2016 21:03

Thanks fifi I'm happy to ask for an epidural if it gets too much!

Hi goodnightdarthvader Do you have an induction booked? I've been suffering pretty much constantly with headaches for a couple of weeks now, not fun.

HandbagFan · 20/02/2016 21:30

Hey. Still waiting! The staff are generally lovely but have too much to do. Timescales are vastly different here than the real world - the woman opposite me was waiting to be discharged from 10am to 2.45 today. I have spent the day waiting for the doctor at ten pm. On the plus side you get fed at 9am, 12pm and 5pm... It's perfect for old people!

I've had some luck in that yesterday afternoon I was moved from a ward of six to a room for two and now a room by myself. Sleep is patchy as they wake you up for tests and obviously you can hear other people having stuff. I was on a monitor til 2am this morning then my neighbour needed help at 6am.

goodnightdarthvader1 · 20/02/2016 23:10

purple not yet on the induction. They're thinking next Thursday if the next two sweeps are unsuccessful.

Currently fuming as my SIL thought it was sensible to bring her DS over, who has a stinking cold, when I'm due to go into labour in the next week max (she had an ELCS). Of course, I now have the cold. I'm so angry and upset.

purplepineapples · 20/02/2016 23:59

That is extremely inconsiderate! I would be really upset too.

I also have the cold although coming to the end of it now (I hope). Got it from DS so couldn't do much about it!

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

purplepineapples · 21/02/2016 00:02

Handbag having a room to yourself sounds great. I remember the timescales from having DS, took us hours to be discharged also. Everything takes so long!

2ManySweets · 21/02/2016 00:22

goodnightdarthvader get some vitamin c supplements down you NOW: 3x500g / day will sort you out in no time x
