I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

NoRoomForALittleOne I'm so glad you've come back on here; I was worried about you. I do think you should go in, yes, if only because of that wretched bleeding, and it's so easy to get dehydrated if you can't keep liquids down so you may be already. Hugs.
Kalidasa Fantastic post on steroids for Hexy. I'm so glad that you have n't lost all faith in eating during this pregnancy at least. When is the next monitoring of fluids scan?
Hellohellohowareyou I wonder if they could add to your meds as being sick five times a day is so miserable and draining. How far along are you now?
xx

noroom do get checked out. You poor thing.
Lucinda I am still on cyclizine. Will get to normal hours at work then try reducing.
Ideally work would ease me back in but we are so short staffed. Fingers crossed for a quieter night as I've only had about 5 hours sleep. Its not the best place to work if stress and tiredness is a trigger it has to be said.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 04/12/2014 17:23

I've been admitted with hyperemesis at 19 weeks Sad I turned the ketostick black Blush

Newshoesplease · 04/12/2014 20:58

Oh noroom are you on a drip now? You really are in the best place. Try and rest as much as possible xxx

Newshoesplease · 04/12/2014 21:19

Guys I'm probably being silly but I'm obsessing over my scan-it looks like baby had no fluid around it? ?! They'd have noticed that straight away wouldn't they? I think I'm being silly...

ToAvoidConversation · 04/12/2014 21:22

NoRoom i haven't been on here in ages because my meds were working so well I stopped thinking j had hyperemesis. Tried stopping the about 22 weeks and by dropping the last few in a day I was super sick again in a few hours. I really hope you get sorted out and back on your meds.

hopefull2424 · 04/12/2014 21:23

Hi all. I'm 7 weeks due the 21st july. I'm not sure if I have hg. I'm going to the dr tomorrow, I'm currently that nauseous I can't eat meals. It starts first thing and carries on all day. Cleaning my teeth leaves me gagging, I spend all afternoon on the sofa shivering. I feel so bad for my dh, dd and ds. I didn't feel like this with my other two. I'm breathless but I think im probably weak as not getting lots to eat.
Sorry to moan. Hoping to get some meds tomorrow xx

Newshoesplease · 04/12/2014 22:22

Hopeful I hope your doc can help you with some advice. Try and eat little amounts if u possibly can, and drink small sips of whatever u can. Rest helps the most but i know how hard it is when u already have two to worry about!

basgetti · 05/12/2014 00:29

Well I got discharged at 10.30 tonight after a 2pm appt! Had bad pain and vomiting last night, went and got the steroids today and was getting intermittent cramps, they put me on trace and it was contractions. They gave me the jab then sent me for monitoring on delivery. Doctor scanned me and it would seem pain last night was baby finally turning and putting her head down, so section has been cancelled!

Cervix is soft, front slightly dilated, back still closed, doctor thinks its the start of things and is more likely to be days than weeks now. Gave me some pain relief and let me come home to wait now baby is in right place. Now lying in bed timing the pains!

Sorry for all those suffering tonight, hope you all have a peaceful night. Glad you are getting treatment NoRoom xx

Meerka · 05/12/2014 07:55

oh bas I hope it's very soon and all goes well! what an evening. Very soon tinyBas will be there =)

noRoom thank god you went to get checked. I hope you are feeling a bit better this morning. I'm sure the nurses woudl have said if you were really low on fluid!

welcome hopeful. If you get the chance and feel well enough, read the links Mother Hen posted above, they give a good outline of the meds available. They usually prescribe cyclizine first off, if you can get some vitamin B6 to go with it that apparently works well (just don't tell the pharmacist you're pregnant, they are overcautious to the extreme). Hope you can get some help, the nausea is so utterly miserable. It does pass for most people but can take a while.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 05/12/2014 09:19

Newshoes if you have hardly any fluid then it is difficult to see the baby at all and it all looks 'murky'. It sounds from your description that you have a subchorionic haemorrhage albeit a far better behaved one than mine. You may get some more bleeding as those 'pockets' of blood that they were measuring bleed out. They may clot and then come away. The good thing is that you don't have one large area of bleeding now. Whenever I've been scanned after a large bleed, the area of bleeding has just filled straight back up and is too big to be measured. It sounds like yours is doing what it should and therefore your risks are low especially if it is away from the sac and placenta. I know it is worrying for you, but I'd actually be very pleased with a scan like that right now!

Someone asked if I'm on a drip. I'm on my fourth bag of fluids now. Very low blood pressure still. I'm waiting for ondansetron to come up from pharmacy so that I can try eating. In the meantime I'm sucking ice cubes. And just to make things interesting, they are struggling to find the baby's heartbeat because of my area of haemorrhage. Poor midwife this morning thought I'd have to go for a scan. Oh, and I've bled this morning which I hadn't done for a while...

LucindaE · 05/12/2014 13:04

NoRoomForALittleOne Goodness, how awful for you to have been that sick and dehydrated. I hate to think what your ketones werei if the stick was so dark. Thanks for great explanation for NowShoesPlease about the bleeding. Sorry your position is so dodgy - how nerve wracking, all I can do is offer cyber hugs. Sorry thee's been more bleeding and it's all so stressful.
hopefull2424Welcome, sorry you feel so bad. Have you had the dr's appointment yet? How are liquids going and staying down? With this level of nausea, you will probably need to get some kesostix (from any chemists, can be bought online) to check for dehydration, which is bad for both of you. Are there friends and/or family who could help out with your LO's?
basgetti My goodness, a night of drama, but good news for you, overall; oh dear, lol about baby being awkward enough to turn so late on. This baby knows, like so many Hyperemesis babies, how to make a grand entrance...
How are things now?
muddylettuce I hope things are better at work today, my goodness.
ToAvoidConversation I'm so glad things have been a lot better; thanks for coming on. How far along are you now?
NewShoesPlease Will the be keeping on scanning the fluids level, for reassurance for you, as much as anything? Excellent explanation fromNoRoom.
Waves to Meerka and Kalidasa Hexy Hellohello and everyone.
Back soon.

Not much happening Lucinda, no increase in contractions, though now getting spasms in my back and have had about 3 urgent dashes to the toilet with very loose stools (sorry tmi!) Feeling much more comfortable though now baby has moved, my shape has dropped and I've got a good bit of energy today, even doing cleaning! I've not gone into labour naturally before, only by induction, so I'm not used to days of slow build up, will have to be patient. And it might still be a false start. But main thing is she has finally turned and I'm secretly so relieved about the section!

Hope everyone is doing ok, thinking of you both NoRoom and NewShoes xx

NoRoomForALittleOne · 05/12/2014 16:27

Get some sleep Bagetti and conserve that energy! I was told by a midwife last time that lying on your left hand side can actually speed things up if you've had a baby before. I didn't last long in that position!

HexyQueen · 05/12/2014 17:25

Goodness, what a rough time everyone is having {big hugs}

Very pleased I made it through a gascoscopy without retching too badly on the nursing staff, then made it to my 4 year olds nativity play. She was the only child that made the audience go "aawwww". V proud & I must be getting better if made it through all day so far only being sick once. Smile

LucindaE · 05/12/2014 17:38

HexdyQueen Glad you had a non puking day, with so much going on, and that performance sounds sweet.
basgetti Never worry about tmi on here - no such thing. Aren't loose stools meant to be a very good sign? Waves to NoRoom NewShoes and Everyone...

NoRoomForALittleOne · 05/12/2014 17:54

Yuck! I've just had an awful moment when I finally felt really hungry and then was presented with hospital food. I won't post a pic for you lovely ladies... But, oh dear! I'm wishing that there were ready salted Pringles and orange Capri sun available.

Newshoesplease · 05/12/2014 17:57

noroom thanks for your post. I hope you start to feel better soon, I hope the fluids start to help. Re: bleeding I can't believe how often it seems to happen!

NoRoomForALittleOne · 05/12/2014 18:05

Oh, I know Newshoes but try not to worry and think of it as 'better out than in'. So many women have this sort of bleed and go on to have a totally healthy pregnancy. If it had been affecting the placenta or pushing on the gestational sac then you would have an increased risk of miscarriage but it's not and a recent study shows that miscarriage risk is not increased for women like you (and it was a good quality, large study). I'd still rest up because it is very scary and, well, why not??? Wink

ToAvoidConversation · 05/12/2014 18:40

Hi Lucinda I'm 25 weeks now. Still on Ondansetron and Cyclizine but coping really well. Doctors asked me to try reducing/coming off over a few weeks about 20 weeks but whilst I managed to reduced I didn't manage off of them and ended up projectile vomiting within a few hours.

NoRoom are you still admitted?

NoRoomForALittleOne · 05/12/2014 19:23

Yep, hopefully out tomorrow but still on IVs for now. I'd really like to go home so that I could eat little bits of the stuff I fancy when I feel able.

ToAvoidConversation · 05/12/2014 19:31

Is it the jam and toast routine? Have you managed to get back on ondan?

NoRoomForALittleOne · 05/12/2014 20:13

Yes to the ondan sadly no to jam and toast as that would have been preferable! It was described as 'vegetable bake' (the alternative was chicken curry). I thought it sounded fairly benign. I was wrong.

ToAvoidConversation · 06/12/2014 01:39

That sounds gross. Our maternity ward seems to have a fairly diverse menu to choose from if you can eat. I've always just gone for a sandwich when I've been in so its cold and doesn't smell.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 06/12/2014 07:20

Over the years I've spent time on 3 different maternity units and the food here is definitely the worst.

It feels like I've had staff in and out all night for one thing or another (offer me drugs, do my obs, change my fluids, listen to baby). I was woken up at 05:50 to be jabbed with ondansetron (why oh why did they not order the IV version from pharmacy???) Hmm I would have appreciated a good night's sleep if I'm going home to the 4DCs today.
