love the name Lola, but although DP is also a big fan, he is refusing to consider it as a serious contender due to 'Charlie and Lola' and the expected increase in Lolas.

Anyone got any good names that are a bit like Lola or have the same 'feel'. KWIM?

princessmel · 27/09/2006 14:09

CountessDracula · 27/09/2006 14:15

Lola always reminds me of that kinks song about a transvestite!

dixia · 27/09/2006 14:36

gladbag · 27/09/2006 14:57

My friend's little girl is called Leila (pronounced Lie-la, not Lay-la) which I think is lovely.

CountessDracula · 27/09/2006 14:58

Elin sounds like a japanese person saying Erin

CountessDracula · 27/09/2006 14:59

or is it the other way round?!

ediemay · 27/09/2006 15:03

Could be! It's the Welsh version of Ellen. My favourite is Ceinwen, pronounced Kaynwen

ediemay · 27/09/2006 15:03

and you pronounce Elin as Aylin

LieselVonTrapp · 27/09/2006 15:04

Leisel I have a dd Lola. Long running argument in our family as to whether Lola in the song is a strong feisty woman, or a tranvestite, and yes, she is the latter! The other song with Lola in is Copacobana, when she is a showgirl 'with yellow feathers in her hair and a dress cut down to there...'. I love 'em both! Also the song 'Whatever Lola wants, Lola gets"

LieselVonTrapp · 27/09/2006 16:44

I do like Lola but I now cant get that Kinks song out my head. Trouble is I like all girls names beginning with L.

Creena · 27/09/2006 16:50

I'm only five weeks pregnant but already detect problems with choosing a name - everything I like, DH hates and vice versa. It doesn't help that DH ends up taking the p*ss and suggesting names from Star Wars or bloody Blake's Seven. I usually experience a mood swing at this point.

Creena · 27/09/2006 16:54

Actually, can anyone help with this -

DH insists that there has to be a different number of syllables in the first and middle names. For example, we couldn't have Chloe Mary because both names have two syllables. He says that it doesn't sound right but I don't think that it matters because he/she will rarely be referred to using both first and middle names.

I'm not sure if this is a ploy allowing him to veto most of the names I suggest or whether he has a point. What do you reckon?

MrsApronstrings · 27/09/2006 16:59

one of the top french girls names atm is Lilou - soo pretty. I agree about the middle name having a dif no of syllables

Lilou is really pretty. I like Lisette too, and Miette. And Lucia.

Although dh and I are firmly resolved that if we ever have a little girl we are going to call her Rainbow

Joolstoo · 27/09/2006 17:08

lola reminds me of barry manilow
