love the name Lola, but although DP is also a big fan, he is refusing to consider it as a serious contender due to 'Charlie and Lola' and the expected increase in Lolas.

Anyone got any good names that are a bit like Lola or have the same 'feel'. KWIM?

I have a Lola, I wanted to call her Lila, then the Oasis song came out just before she was born! You are never going to find a unique name (unless you make it up) so if you like it, call her it! In 20 years time, no-one will remember Charlie and Lola.

Was thinking Layla. Also like Iona, but I knew a girl called Iona who got a lot of "I own a...(insert noun of your choice)" jokes.

I do like Lola though def makes me think of Charlie's little sis

Hi, someone else is having the same problem - her dog is called Lola and she now wants the name or similar for her expected LO. Loads of ideas here if you can wade through it

the other lola thread

dixia · 26/09/2006 19:45

Hi annidiv! I agree with you - I'd just go ahead and call it Lola (mind you dont' know if its a girl yet), but DP is unmoving.

GreenLumpyTonsils - I like Viola - v. nice - hmmm.

Yes, that's right. It's one of the moons of Jupiter. It originates in Greek mythology: Io was the daughter of Inakhus (Inachus), the king of Argos.

Io was wooed by Zeus and eventually turned into a heifer to conceal her from Hera; when Zeus first approached Io she refused his advances; Zeus threatened Io?s father with ruin if she did not submit but she still refused; her father turned Io out of his house and, to make matters worse, Hera sent the hundred-eyed herdsman, Argos, to follow Io and a gadfly to torment her so that she would have to keep moving farther and farther from her home.

Io encountered Prometheus during her travels and he told her that eventually she would find peace but her journey would not end until she swam the Hellespont and ventured all the way to Egypt; she was relieved of her curse in Egypt and her son, Epaphos (Epaphus) was the ancestor of Aegyptus and Danaus.

I think it's a beautiful name
