Baby boy clothes depress me

Why oh why is it all so same-y and so unimaginative?

Almost always pale blue or navy or grey, with trucks/dinosaurs/cars design on it or some horrid cheesy slogan like 'cheeky monkey' or 'cool dude'. What happened to other colours?

In comparison, all the baby girl clothes I see are lovely. Yes, there's lots of pink stuff, but there's also lots of other colours and designs. I remember before DD was born I thought the girls clothes were too girly but it now seems to have gone the other way

Maybe I'll just dress him like a girl...

i hate the girly clothes and the boy clothes. Why cant we just have baby clothes? Why the need to gender from so early on?

Agreed - if i see one more grey and blue stripy t-shirt, I'll weep...

On the plus side, boys' toys look much more fun than girls' toys...

I need a smack up the head - I HATE HATE HATE cheesy slogan shirts, only to go to a late night Tesco after our scan showed we were having a boy and bought a t-shirt saying 'little dude'.

He's not even born yet and I should have my parenting license pulled...

I have to say, I bought nice stuff from Po.P before finding out the sex and they are colourful but unisex, but the supermarkets seem to be particularly bad at 'blue for boys, pink for girls'.

Baby gap do lovely boy clothes - preppy and very cute. Next do some lovely pieces.

Try Boots. I got some lovely white vests and baby gros with primary coloured spots and stripes and you get extra advantage card points as well if youve signed up for the parenting bit.

H and M, next and debenhams also had some good different clothes in.

I have phases of feeling like this too. However, I have just managed to get a few good bits for ds (18 months now, so not a 'baby') in John Lewis sale.

Got him some lovely green dungarees (do have a small pic of a tractor and a chicken), a turquoise and cream striped t shirt with a frog on it, and a blue/green (to represent sky and grass) t shirt with a tree and a badger on it - dot mind he blue so much here as it is necessary!

I also found a canary yellow jumper for him the other day (although does have a train embroidered on it - you can't have everything!) so he has some good bright colours I wear over the next few months.

It is depressing when all you see is a sea of lie and brown...

The things that always strikes me as weird about a lot of baby boy clothes is that they are often just tiny little man clothes.

Tiny shirts with collars and trousers with flies.

It would be like dressing a baby girl in a pair of work trousers and a tiny little woman's blouse.

You can get lovely leggings and soft clothes that are bright and cheerful in places like Polarn O Pyret, but they're quite expensive (although they wear very well.)

Their clothes are basically all gender neutral too, other than the dresses.

We've decided not to find out the sex. Gender neutral clothing is even worse. It's either brown or grey, both of which I think are masculine. And only lemon is tacky lion appliqué (bangs head on door at stubbornness of DH not wanting to find out sex)

I've got boys and have really grown to love the clothes. The John Lewis stuff is great.

Vertbaudet is nice, if pricey, I saw some lovely pink boy's shirts and nice jeans dungarees, too.

I know, I am expecting my second little girl but always have a look around boys. I think its because navy and grey and on trend at the moment. A few years ago it was oatmeal, beige and neutrals as I was given a bag of clothes from a friend and her son is 7 now.

H and M is def less "cheesy" and is the nest for everyday/affordable clothes.

TK maxx have some good lesser widely available brands and polarn y polet (think this is how you spell) have some lovely bits as my friend showed my gifts she'd been given from that brand.

Google Scandinavian brands such as ej sikke Lej, katvig etc. I love www.juicytots.co.uk and www.loveitloveitloveit.co.uk.

Scandi stuff is mostly unisex and not a cheeky monkey in sight. They like their babies to look like babies, not mini adults. Refreshing.

Boots have some brightly coloured unisex stuff on their website.

Oh my goodness! Hate logos and brown. I get lovely bits from Next, Gap and surprisingly Tesco. The Jools Oliver range at Mothercare is also really nice.

I think it is really off that clothes shops have far smaller boy clothing sections than they do for the girls. Like girls, Boys have to wear clothes and it would be nice to have equal choice.

Tomkat I just ordered a romper with a big Viking face on it, when DH pulls a face I'll just blame you if that's ok....

I'm with flickstar. Have some ace stuff for DS and am now slightly depressed as having a DD and am sure plenty of hideous pink nonsense will be 'gifted' my way. Urgh. She'll be getting the bright stripy stuff and cool prints I had did DS from H&M and Sweden.

For baby clothes I love Primark. My sister "handed me down" loads. Really washed and wore well. He's now grown into larger sizes (small men's, age 11!). The logos need a bit of culling, but great for baby boys and toddlers I think

It gets better with age.I've just put away loads of DS's clothes that he grew out of.He's got tops/t-shirts in every possible colour,even pink!
