Baby boy clothes depress me

Why oh why is it all so same-y and so unimaginative?

Almost always pale blue or navy or grey, with trucks/dinosaurs/cars design on it or some horrid cheesy slogan like 'cheeky monkey' or 'cool dude'. What happened to other colours?

In comparison, all the baby girl clothes I see are lovely. Yes, there's lots of pink stuff, but there's also lots of other colours and designs. I remember before DD was born I thought the girls clothes were too girly but it now seems to have gone the other way Hmm

Maybe I'll just dress him like a girl...

Just looked at the frugi sale, owl dungarees!

If I had a new boy I would be getting owl dungarees for sure.

Mabelandrose · 18/01/2014 12:08

There are some amazing independent retails out there with gorgeous ranges of baby clothes. You just need to go away from the high street

BakingBunty · 18/01/2014 17:27

Mini Boden has some great stuff for boys... Lovely soft, checked baggies etc. Not cheap but often discount vouchers kicking around. And I echo what everyone else says about PoP and the Scandinavian brands. The Nordic kids website has lots of the more unusual ones stocked.

captaincake · 18/01/2014 18:34

HaroldLloyd I have a boy on the way and have bought those frugi owl dungarees! Debenhams have some lovely bits too.

Finding gender neutral clothes that aren't 'just white' or 'just beige' is a nightmare. Bloody baby with it's bloody legs crossed [mad]

lougle · 18/01/2014 19:18

Boys look so cool! I love to see boys' clothes, probably because I suffered several years of interminable pink due to having 3 girls. I was determined that my girls wouldn't wear pink all the time when I had DD1, but it's rife.

mrscog · 18/01/2014 19:26

Try Sainburys, I've found lots of sweet brightly coloured clothes for my DS there.

BEEwitched · 18/01/2014 19:47

M&S today had lovely things - I bought a mint green top with darker stars on it, and there was a lovely set of dark grey denim dungarees with a purple striped top.

HaroldLloyd · 18/01/2014 19:49

DS actually had a really nice purple owl top and matching stripey trousers for Christmas from m&s.

HaroldLloyd · 18/01/2014 19:50

I love the Scandinavian clothes but money was a lot tighter on boy number 2 but I've found lovely clothes without needing to spend a lot of money.

MrsPatMustard · 18/01/2014 20:29

Flyawaytomalibu Absolutely - no gender stereotypes in this house. Just hate all that pink glittery fluff that is marketed aggressively at girls...

Stevie77 · 19/01/2014 16:27

Whoa! Sorry, didn't mesn to post and disappear...

Thanks to all the ideas, will be looking into those especially boy leggings and tights! Think we have quite a few things that used to be DD's that would work for a boy as tried not to put her in too much pink. There's just so much more choice for girls that's not pink or mini man's clothes as was mentioned sniff

Monsoon do really lovely boys clothes. I get mine secon hand off ebay! M&S are great too. Tbh I put DS in little animal babygros for ages, poor kid

Mycatistoosexy · 19/01/2014 16:31

Babygros that look like animals eg. Bears or a lion not obviously those creepy outfits that you buy for animals

Stevie77 · 20/01/2014 11:02

To those that have mentioned tights and leggings for boys - how does it work? What do you dress tights with?

By leggings do you mean like the sort of leggings you can get for girls? I saw some slim, what I would say are joggers, that were labeled leggings but imagine this is something that is only available up to a certain age.

Anyone has any links with examples?

CakePunch · 20/01/2014 11:09

lovely bright boys clothes
and here
They are harder to find and yes the examples I've given here are expensive but if you go on ebay or wait for the sales you can get cheaper things.

HaroldLloyd · 20/01/2014 12:36

Tights under trousers on cold days and just with a vest for the house.,

Stops them pulling off their socks!

mrscog · 20/01/2014 13:35

Yes - my DS wears tights under his trousers on cold days - keeps him much warmer and no socks to come off either!

HaroldLloyd · 20/01/2014 13:36

Such a good idea.

Leggings are good under thin trousers or for popping on over a vest if they are crawling about the house, I have wood floors so his knees get cold.

And plus, I mean, they are cute.

Stevie77 · 20/01/2014 20:28

Tights and leggings under trousers? I don't see the point then. I understood the 'tights and leggings for boys' to mean instead of boy-like trousers. Why would I pay more for "tights for boys" if they're going under something uglier else? Confused

HaroldLloyd · 20/01/2014 20:44

Don't then.

BronzeHorseman · 20/01/2014 21:10

I'm with Harold on this one, you can get lovely clothes for boys - mine are well out of baby clothes now but I had lovely greens, oranges, purples and browns for them.
