Baby boy clothes depress me

Why oh why is it all so same-y and so unimaginative?

Almost always pale blue or navy or grey, with trucks/dinosaurs/cars design on it or some horrid cheesy slogan like 'cheeky monkey' or 'cool dude'. What happened to other colours?

In comparison, all the baby girl clothes I see are lovely. Yes, there's lots of pink stuff, but there's also lots of other colours and designs. I remember before DD was born I thought the girls clothes were too girly but it now seems to have gone the other way Hmm

Maybe I'll just dress him like a girl...

I have got nice gender neutral stuff - I actually like the browns - some white and yellow things and some pale blue which I also like. But I would only really put a baby in baby gro type stuff - or little baggy trousers and t shirts - whichever gender so I suspect my baby clothes will seem boring to some. Didn't put dd in dresses as a baby because why would you?

Boden have some brighter colours if you are looking for that I think

You can buy boy tights. With trains and the like on ebay. My Czech friend got them from over there but they sell them here too. She put them on her DS round the house.

I used to love Green Baby but they stopped and are part of another brand now. Next have some nice bits.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 20/01/2014 21:57

Yeah, for gods sake dont put them in 'girls tights' - they might catch The Gay

Hmm
HalleLouja · 20/01/2014 21:59

I didn't say that. My girl wore her big brother's clothes - in fact still does and she is 2 1/2. I even put my boy in pink before he thought it was for girls. He had this really cute pink and grey jumper.

2tiredtocare · 20/01/2014 22:03

I love Stardust on ebay, my DS has a pink baby vest with blue trim and a lego David Bowie on it, another vote for tights here too.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 20/01/2014 22:05

But going online to buy boys tights which are essentially just tights with trains on, when it is perfectly possible to just pick up a pair of tights at the local supermarket or clothes store you happen to go to?

2tiredtocare · 20/01/2014 22:10

I wouldnt extrapolate homophobia as the reason!

HalleLouja · 20/01/2014 22:10

I was saying my friend got some from Czech and we had a search and saw them on ebay. She used them like leggings with no trousers on top. Girls tights will also do. In fact my DD wore my friend's DS's "boy" tights as she gave me some. What is wrong with buying some more boyish ones.

Another friend used to put her DS in his older sister's pink tights to keep him warm.

2tiredtocare · 20/01/2014 22:12

I wouldnt worry about it Halle

Bit of a wild jump there ken.

I don't have any girls, I don't own any tights.

I buy tights in neutral colours or even with pirates on from ebay.

If I had other tights already purchased I would use them. I am not going to go out and buy pink tights to prove a point.

In I was a raving homophobe I wouldn't use them at all surely. Tights are not particularly known for their manliness.

winkywinkola · 20/01/2014 22:25

Polarnopyret do great stuff. Sales are super.

HaroldLloyd · 20/01/2014 22:30

How do you know our shopping habits ken?

Bloody hell why so snarky.

If I want to buy tights with a pirate on the arse I don't have to justify it to anyone.

And they are a lot lot cheaper on eBay than in the shops.

Hmm ken

AutumnStar · 20/01/2014 23:05

This thread has taken a rather strange turn. Where was anyone suggesting that boys had to wear "boy tights"? Were posters not just pointing out that such items are available?

2tiredtocare · 21/01/2014 06:16

Grin Harold

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 21/01/2014 06:28

Ds often wears M&S leggings as trousers. He has a lovely green, brown, purple and yellow pair. Only available up to 9-12 months though, I think.

Mumof3xx · 21/01/2014 06:32

When I just had two boys I thought boys clothes were so boring And I longed to buy the girls clothes I saw

Now I have a girl and see lots of lovely boy clothes!

mydoorisalwaysopen · 21/01/2014 07:03

it's all the skull designs that I don't like.

notso · 21/01/2014 08:15

Tights are uncomfortable under trousers. My two youngest used to wear boy tights and a top when crawling around the house.
Boy tights ken because all the tights on the high street were hideously pink, flowery or boring navy. I didn't dress DD in them when she was little so I'm not dressing my sons in them either. I know babies don't care what they where but I care what they wear.

You can get lovely boys/ unisex clothes you just have to hunt for them. TK Maxx are pretty good, I have had some cute Carter's outfits from there. Frugi dungarees are lovely, even the denim ones are soft and jersey lined. DS's had some lovely red cord ones with a rainbow on, and denim ones with a fox on.
Like others have said H&M, DS2 lives in their bright joggers and long sleeved t-shirts for pre-school. They wash really nicely. I don't mind the odd logo top depends what it says. I don't like little trouble maker, little and loud etc, he has a nutty one I like to think it reminds the teachers of his peanut allergy!
He loves skulls and pirates, he always looks for those when we shop, he also likes Snoopy and Paul Frank.

HaroldLloyd · 21/01/2014 11:21

Probably depends on the child, my DS has very skinny legs so his tights and trousers are not tight on him and don't seem uncomfortable at all.

He pulls off any socks so it's a good way of keeping him warm.

TuckingFablet · 21/01/2014 11:32

why would tights under trousers be uncomfortable? Confused

HalleLouja · 21/01/2014 11:32

thanks tootired it was a bit odd.
