spots · 29/04/2004 17:09

I AM practising with the nappies! if lovingly folding & unfolding, holding fleecy bit against cheek with tears in eyes etc. can be called practicing...

Not long for you to go now Twigglet. Im quite excited for everyone now as all the due dates get closer.
I saw MW yesterday, she said that the heads moved down although not engaged. She said its at 4/5 and engaged is when its 2/5's. I was hoping it may have been engaged. The little bighter has started to head butt me everytime I have a wee.
I also have a bum sticking out(babies, not mine yet). Its over on the right side just under my ribs and ive got a foot over to the left over on my side. It seems to have got quite a habit of stretching so that its bum sticks out and then a foot. It makes my bump look a weired shape and feels quite strange if you put your hand over its foot as you can feel it moving under the skin. Ive still got my piles but at least they arent huting anymore. Im almost embarrassed to go into labour as im sure the mw will have a shock when she sees the size of them!!

Egypt · 29/04/2004 21:06

kbaby, your baby is doing just what mine is. its really weird when you get a shunt to the side. bum comes out one side and foot the other, like it's stretching out straight. my stomach looks like a kind of lopsided pyramid! well, i am still confused about engagement then, as i asked if it was engaged and she said 'yes' but looked in my notes and she's written 4/5.........wots gorn on?

libb · 29/04/2004 21:18

Hello everyone,

I had a midwife appointment today too - no home visit for me though. I had to waddle my way there. Mine wasn't the best visit as the poor midwife couldn't work out if he had decided to turn back into the breech position - I was almost booked in for a scan but luckily another midwife had a good prod as well and it would appear that he has just decided to make his way back upwards! Flipping brilliant. Last week he was 4/5, now he is 5/5 - if that were possible! Bah! I just want to get on with it now - I know I will end up being the last despite my odds in the "race"!

Never mind - won't grumble anymore - promise! I am glad we are all ticking along nicely - hope you are all keeping well xxx

libb · 29/04/2004 21:20

I forgot to mention, he also has a bum to beat his mother's! Right up under the ribs right now.

Egypt · 29/04/2004 21:27

AHA - just found this and may be of some interest to you - if not you then DP/H !

perineum massage

libb · 29/04/2004 21:30

And I pinched this link from one of the other threads - not as helpful but still fun to do!

sheknows.com/inside/look/736.htm

At least I know the sex is right, hope the 24 hour labour isn't!

Egypt · 29/04/2004 21:37

Spooky! Well apparently I'm having a boy and a SIX hour labour! let's hope so - well the labour part at least. she said she senses i have thought of a water birth - interesting - is true

GeorginaA · 29/04/2004 22:17

LOL ... wrong sex, 20hrs. But then a) I couldn't remember what the last animal I saw was and b) I'm not sure what time I was born so...

Linnet · 29/04/2004 22:43

You're all describing exactly what my little darling does, sticks her bum out one side and her foot out the other. Bump goes a funny shape.

I remember getting a home visit last time but they didn't stay long. Nobody has mentioned one this time around so I guess I don't get one.

I went and bought more raspberry leaf tea today and I finally managed to find somewhere that sells Arnica 200 as was recommended on another thread. So I've got that as well. Also managed to find the Muslin Squares in Boots so I bought them. When dd and I got home after school she played with the moses basket which had been dropped off in the afternoon, put baby annabel in it again she looks so at home there the real baby might not get a look in, lol

also my cousin was visiting my granny tonight so I had my travel system out to show her, she was very taken with it and started saying how she should have another baby now that you get such cool prams, don't think her husband was too impressed with that idea, lol Their kids are 11 and 7 and there are not going to be any more but I think I'd better watch when I take the new baby out in the pram she might be hiding round the corner so that she can have a go, lol Maybe I should ask her to babysit so she can play with the pram, lol

Not sure if I like this prediction. it says I'm having a girl which is correct but tells me that the baby will be born after 15 hours! of labour and will weigh in at 8lbs 5oz! Please let that part be very very wrong. Oh well all in good fun.

spots · 30/04/2004 08:55

Excellent, I'm going to have a 5 hour labour! and a boy of 6lbs... she warns though that I might not be ready to let go of the glory of being pregnant... I'll be thinking of Mme Zariska on the day. (Might have cheated a bit tho' - chicken I saw was dead - i was eating it.)

I can't get the hang of our travel system. Took it apart to wash all fabric bits and can't get it back together again.

Egypt awww, do we HAVE to do the perineal massage thing? will you let me off pleeease?

Egypt · 30/04/2004 09:43

that perineal massage HURTS! I don't think i can be bothered to do it. Why put yourself in pain for weeks beforehand when it will still hurt in labour. think shall just go with the flow. m/w actually suggested that if i was worried so much about stretching/tearing that it may make me hold back pushing, i should ask for a local anaesthetic! mmmmmm, maybe! or praps i'm just being a wuss.

having dreams about baby evernight now. some horrid.

spots. both you and me are having short labours according to ms Z and 2nd time mums are having longer ones....makes sense.....not. she could have predicted WHEN we were having them couldn't she!?!!

Linnet, what travel system have you bought? what have others got?

Aren't we quiet today. I am cold and a bit bored, but that would not in itself make me want to do any perineal massage. It's just too... skiddy.... and difficult. I'm going to use POSITIVE VISUALISATION instead. Also my mum said tearing didn't hurt because all the blood supply was reduced by the stretching anyway. (Please say nothing, 2nd time mums).(unless you want to confirm this).

I've got that real wasting time friday feeling where you can't bring yourself to do anything useful.

Egypt · 30/04/2004 21:40

Actually my mum said exactly the same thing spots. hope they are right!

Linnet · 30/04/2004 22:50

Well, like spots I had a wasting friday feeling day. My last full day at work today and I just wandered about pretending to do stuff. Nobody said anything so I don't care. Just have to work 3 hours tomorrow and that's me all done.

Had my meal out tonight after work and it was great. Got a big bunch of flowers and a nice card. Plus everyone else paid for dinner and I didn't have to pay anything, felt a bit guilty about that.

The travel system we have bought is a Graco Quattro system. It's so cool, but huge it's like a tank. I'm only 5'1 and the handle is at my chest and you can't lower the handle it didn't look so big in the shop, lol. I guess I'll get used to it once I get going.

Twiglett, how are you feeling now?

Egypt · 01/05/2004 10:17

linnet, hope your last 3 hours at work are swift and enjoyable!!!

IT'S MAY EVERYONE

We bought a mothercare Urban Detour 'Deluxe'. it's soooo nice. All fleecy and fluffy but like you say a bit of a tank. Very heavy to lift. Much to dhs annoyance cos he wanted the jane, which i think are ugly although very light.

yes twiglett, you must be about ready!

am dreaming of babies and weird things all the time now. dreamt about IVF last night and people choosing their babs. The heads had grown but not bodies and they were selecting hair/eye colour and everything by looking at the faces. They were still embryos but had fully formed heads. Eeeery. then dreamt that i had my baby and it was HUGE. someone had put it to sleep in its cot with nothing on, just a blanket and i was furious. sorry ramble ramble...........just got up

Egypt · 01/05/2004 10:31

Oh twiglett - just saw your other thread from yesterday. (being rather slow) Hope you are ok now. How r things?

Not doing too badly at the moment. Twiglett your pains on the other thread sounded rather like my Braxton Hicks. My baby is in the same position as kbaby's - and everyone elses by the sounds of it. Although I feel it has moved down a bit. Can't seem to find anything comfortable to wear so am a bit fed up with that. Have finally got round to cleaning up pram today.

DH is away Tuesday night but after that feel as though I will be ready for action. He is only going to an exhibition in Birmingham (about two hours) so am OK about it but told him he is not allowed to drink!

glad u are better twiglett.

Bozza · 01/05/2004 21:49

Just posted on your peeing thread Twiglett. And actually with DS I remember laying in bed trying to decide if it was labour and it was more in my back than the BH's had been and did feel like period pains for maybe 20 mins before it became more intense.

Linnet - how does it feel having finished work? I felt so relieved when I finished. And its been easier since I think.
