Bah! And I thought I was doing so well not getting sucked into caving with the "woe is me" mother tones...

Linnet · 27/04/2004 22:58

No Egypt I'm not a teacher. doesn't every place of work have a staff room where people go for tea breaks etc? We all call it the staff room as it's for the staff.

Feeling a bit better today, not so down as I was yesterday. didn't have anymore funny numb feelings during the day but did have one or two while I was making dinner tonight. I think it's just the baby pressing on a nerve, will mention it to the GP when I go to see her tomorrow.

Had a really funny day at work today. Was told that I'm not allowed to go into labour before Saturday as the guy running that shift needs me there. Said he didn't want a phone call at 9am that includes the word Water, lol
I've also been told that I'm not allowed to have the baby before Friday as that is my meal out, going straight from work to a chinese restaurant, but everyone said they will just go anyway and if I'm in hospital they will bring me a takeaway, lol
Then almost gave the first aid guy a heart attack when he said, oh but you've got ages to go yet, I said yes 2 weeks until due date, the look on his face was priceless, he demanded to know why I wasn't at home with my feet up then told me to sit down and cross my legs.
All in all a much better day today. Just have to go in tomorrw, Friday and Saturday and that's me until December

Glad you finally got a date arranged Georgina. My great aunts birthday was May 10th.
I wish I had a definite date to look forward to. Instead I get to play the will it/won't it arrive today game.

We didn't phone any family or friends when I went into labour last time. Dh however had to phone his work and say that he wasn't coming in. This then resulted in people from his work phoning every hour to see if the baby had arrived yet or not, talk about annoying.
Also one of my friends phoned my house and when she didn't get an answer she phoned the hospital to see if I was there she was put through to the labour ward and the midwife told her I was there and how I was doing. To this day that really annoys me they didn't ask me first if I minded them telling her and I think they should have asked me first. Especially as she then met my brother later on that day and told him I was in hospital and he then went home and told my mum, who wasn't well and she then spent the rest of the day and night fretting over whether or not I was ok and why hadn't I phoned yet.

This time will be slightly different as DD will need to be farmed out to someone to look after so they will know where we are.

Linnet · 27/04/2004 23:11

Oh and I forgot to say, I hope Prufrock and baby are doing ok. Was thinking of her this morning. Did she know if she was having a boy or a girl? or was hers a surprise?

spots · 28/04/2004 08:11

Think she was having a boy... don't think there are any known about dd's-to-be on this thread (correct me if I'm wrong).

spots · 28/04/2004 08:22

Hey Georgina haven't you passed the chickenpox milestone now? Yay Yay No Pox Here... £3000 well injected I say. What is the plan for ds' birthday? is he feeling all better too?

linnet, i spose its called a staffroom wherever you work yes, sorry. just never left school!

am telling mum after the birth. she agrees its best because she knows she'll not sleep/sit still/shut up until its all over. have a feeling that she'll twig anyway when it happens as she rings me every bloody day, and then if i dont answer she texts me.....if no answer she'll just KNOW. hope prufrock is ok

GeorginaA · 28/04/2004 11:24

Tomorrow will be 3 weeks since ds came out in spots, so fingers crossed I'm in the clear - although the hospital midwife is being miserable and saying I'm not truly all clear until another 5 days after when ds would have crusted over and not been contagious! My community midwife reckons if I was going to have it I would have done by now though, so I'm much more relaxed about it all now

Ds is all better, a few scabs here and there still, but they don't bother him. We're having his birthday party in Wacky Warehouse and dh is going to do all the running about - my task is to sit by the door, smile lots and drink coffee! Looking forward to it

Egypt · 28/04/2004 12:43

good news georgina. sure you are fine, was sure that the contagious period was b4 the spots came anyway.

spots · 28/04/2004 16:55

sorry 'bout that twiglett's dd-inside... glad there's a girl hanging around the maybabes slot somewhere. Am having v. boyish feelings about mine but we'll see.

Just gearing up to have neighbours down for helloes/g'n't (garn)/lasagne. Eeek! am scared of neighbours, wish me luck... they want to buy a bit of garden from us... we don't really want to sell.

Georgina you will be the very picture of serenity on sunday, like an oasis of calm in the middle of Wacky Warehouse... I can just see it. (except for not having a clue what you look like )

GeorginaA · 28/04/2004 18:25

Eeep... seems like ds has started a mini-epidemic at nursery - staff were asking all the mums today if their little ones had had chickenpox! Oops.

Good luck with the neighbours - just make sure they drink doubles to your single g'n'ts and you'll be fine

oooh right enough twiglett... MT4thBWY....

Neighbours very lovely after all, quite ok about garden, phew. They brought lots of cake so I have had cake twice today and definitely in the running for a glucose rush if cake can do that to you.

Georgina you must not allow any poxy people near your ds's party! imagine going through all that again...

GeorginaA · 28/04/2004 21:52

Oh god, spots - I hadn't even thought of that! Going to be paranoid every time a kid runs or coughs near me now!!

GeorginaA · 28/04/2004 21:54

So twiglett - you're next? (assuming no-one spontaneously goes into premature labour?)

bounces up and down with excitement

Have read a load of horror stories about inductions today, so can't get excited about my own impending doom... will expend my energy being excited for everyone else

Linnet · 28/04/2004 23:00

Spots I'm having a dd.

Had appointment with GP today. She said that baby is head down, so this big lump at my ribs is the bum. She also said that the baby doesn't seem to have a lot of room to be moving around in and she could actually see the bum sticking out of me if you know what I mean, she could see the lump as it was very prominent. She doesn't think it's going to be a huge baby, dd was 6lbs 9oz and GP thinks this one will be around the same or slightly bigger but not huge as I'm small and dh is small also. Bp fine, said to keep taking my raspberry leaf tea if I want to won't do any harm.

And she said that the numb feelings in my legs sound like the baby pressing on a nerve. Actually happened again tonight while I was cooking dinner but this time the numb part was in my bottom, very strange sensation, lol

Have to go back to see her at 40 weeks and then have an overdue appointment at 41 weeks with hospital. Now I just have to sit back and wait and see which of my three due dates the baby is going to arrive nearest to, lol. Really hoping that I don't need to see my GP at 40 weeks, would like to have delivered by then if possible. And really don't want to be going to the 41 week appoint. either.

Georgina I always thought that the contagious time was before the spots appeared, surely if you were going to get chickenpox you would have had them by now.

Getting Moses basket delivered tomorrow, lovely lady at my work made it for me. also getting my hair done tomorrow. Then I go to to work on Friday out for dinner afterwards with work, work on Saturday for 3 hours and then that's me, yipee!!!

GeorginaA · 29/04/2004 08:26

Glad the numbness does appear to be just the baby pressing on a nerve, Linnet. I know you'd guessed that already, but it's always reassuring having someone medical come to the same conclusion, isn't it?

Yes, I think I'm in the clear now over the chickenpox. I'm going to avoid going to my yoga class again this week though just in case - don't want any of the other mums having to go through the same stress I did for the sake of one class.

spots · 29/04/2004 09:07

Sorry Linnet and dd. I am crap.

I'm also awaiting mail order stuff... real nappies arrive today (have been pathetically excited about these ever since I first saw them) and extremely posh cot mattress which both assuages guilt (being oh so good for baby) and creates it (£££bloody hell££££.

In fact even the necessary stuff is so expensive eh? Nursing bras... hardly an extravagance....had me forking out nearly £50. Owch my poor pockets.

spots · 29/04/2004 09:10

Linnet when we're next up in your end of the country I'll be looking out for a neat looking woman with a bottom sticking out of her front... sounds spectacular!!

Egypt · 29/04/2004 09:23

oo twiglett, can't believe you're first!! Tues is close girl!
M/w coming to do a home visit today. Why do they come to house?? am sure i have a bum sticking out too linnet, on left hand side at bottom of ribs. lots of feet and knees on right. We'll see.

Egypt · 29/04/2004 09:27

sorry, should have said cant believe you are NEXT - sorry prufrock!!!!!

LOL twiglett - well i must have passed i think. she left smiling! (unless she was laughing)
Head is engaged. Didn't say by how much and said by feel of baby doesn't feel like an overly large one! phew. in fact q a modest sized one.
Expected her to want to nose in baby room, but no and didnt offer. Was here an hour and talked about whole labour thing and what support i should get from dh. he was at work, damn. so she is actually coming back here! to speak to both 6 days b4 due date - by which time you will have your little bundle!!!! are you excited?

spots · 29/04/2004 13:11

Have noticed in hosp. notes a section for home visit... inc. section for 'on street lighting'! Love the idea that they might say "actually spots family, you aren't allowed to have a baby, you don't have enough lampposts". Bizarre. Did they check your lampposts egypt?? I do hope so.

Our nappies have arrived and are gorgeous.

Egypt · 29/04/2004 15:36

What?!! thats a tad bizarre! we have NO street lights here - oh dear. they are going to take it away, ha ha hee hee ho ho........(seem to remember a song there)
