As this is number 2 I know I should know this answer already but anyway ...

Period pains every 4 - 5 mins lasting 40 seconds or so, no back pain - start of labour or braxton hicks Blush

sharklet · 20/07/2012 04:10

sounds like braxton hicks, but you know what it is like, when labour starts it is not established for a while and when you are there it is almost impossible to know.

Am being nagged by an 8 yo right now every 5 mins... are you in labour yet???

I am 40w today and going in to be induced (gd) in approx 5 hours. So glad that this is nearly over - I look like an over stuffed sausage - but terrified at the same time.

I am so big that everyone had been saying that 'it will e today/tomorrow' for he past three weeks. However, I think LO is very stubborn (wonder where he/she gets that from?) and won't do what is expected already!

Good luck everyone! :)

Kazriina · 20/07/2012 07:34

Good luck kitty hope it's a quick one! Keep us posted and jealous

Hettieboo · 20/07/2012 09:25

Hello. I'm 39+4. Oooph. First baby. Fed up. Fat feet, addiction to Gaviscon, waddling when I walk the dogs, tired, grumpy, dribbly (!), snorey....
I've got a teeny bit of back ache but that might be from sleeping on my side and that's it! No mucus plug, no "show" no nothing! Going to a wedding tomorrow in the hopes that it chivvies things along! I never told anyone my due date....I just said Olympics baby so it gives me quite a big window! Oh I'm drinking raspberry leaf and eating pineapple. OH refuses to have sex with me Smile and has done since mid June! I think the size of everything scares him!!!

Pootle78 · 20/07/2012 09:31

Good luck today kitty

Still here! Popping paracetamol at the moment and need some sleep!

Have left poor ds in his cot in the hope he'll fall back to sleep after breakfast, all quiet in the western front so fingers crossed it's working!!!

nappyaddict · 20/07/2012 09:45

poohbear Do you work full time? I was thinking of having my leaving date at 40 weeks but I don't know if that's a bit too late.

milk · 20/07/2012 09:46

I found a nice long relaxing walk helped :)

JT100 · 20/07/2012 10:18

Don't want to alarm anyone but my baby - my 3rd - was 42+16 days before she finally decided to make an appearance! I was fed up by the end but not so much with the pregnancy, mainly with the phone calls and texts, so I just decided not to answer the phone or any messages. Everyday on the school run I got "haven't you had that baby yet" it drove me mad! I recommend putting a post up on Facebook saying "NOT YET, THANKS FOR ASKING" and then just ignore it (until the baby arrives, and then you can spend the next 18 years posting up photos of your DC's every milestone!)

I'm a bit stubborn myself, so I hung on and refused the induction, and in the end it was a speedy (3 hour) labour and she didn't look at all overcooked, so I reckon those dating scans aren't as accurate as the hospitals like to think...

I did try everything to get things going: bouncing on the birth ball, pineapple, but I couldn't do curry because of the heartburn. None worked!
Also tried clary sage oil recommended by a midwife (but very important not to use this until you are overdue or around anyone else pregnant or having their period, its very powerful stuff), which brought on the Braxton Hicks, but nothing else.
I had a reflexology treatment which did make me relax, as hadn't been doing much of that with 2 other kids, and think that helped. 2 hours of foot massage - mmmm.
One midwife recommended "as much sex as you can stand" ha ha! I gave it my best, but thats no easy feat at 9 months pregnant!

Another overdue friend really recommended nipple tweaking, if anyone wants to give that a shot....Wink

Finally at 42 weeks I had a sweep, the next day went for a hilly walk (ignore all those people who say you should stay at home, (unless you have a medical condition), walking is really good as it helps the babies head to press down on the cervix which triggers labour) and that night it all kicked off.

I was so relieved that the pregnancy was finally going to be over, that I got that baby out like a shot! Grin

Twinkleinmyeye · 20/07/2012 10:33

Pootle, sounds like early labour to me... Good luck. :)

Everyone else...

poohbearrules · 20/07/2012 11:46

nappyaddict I'm a 9 to 5 Monday to Friday girl, but not for much longer - only 5 hrs 20 mins to go! Obviously not doing much at the moment, on MN again!

One girl I work with - currently on maternity leave - planned to leave at 39 weeks with her first but didn't actually make it as her DS was two weeks early - he was a big baby! Her next one (also big) they gave her a CS for - she finished on the Wednesday and had him on the Thursday!! Grin

Pootle78 · 20/07/2012 12:44

And it's stopped :(

Going out for lunch to see if that will shift it along!!!

pettyprudence · 20/07/2012 14:01

Not pg myself but thought I'd come and offer some encouragement Grin

DangerousDorothy I had a massive cold the day before ds arrived - spent it sniffing olbas oil all day so I could breathe. Don't know if that is coinsidence or a sign????

May I recommend booking a hair appointment the day after your due date (or tomorrow if you are overdue) - my ds tured up on his due date and I had crap hair!

natcat7000 · 20/07/2012 18:28

I was overdue and fed up with waiting so I tried loads of things to move things along:

  • raspberry leaf tea
  • acupuncture
  • pineapple
  • curry/hot sauce
  • as much walking as possible
  • hilariously awkward and seriously unsexy sex
  • clary sage

The same day of my labour I went out to eat eggplant (auburgene) parmagiana. Apparently there is a restaurant somewhere in the states that guarantees labour after eating it. I thought it couldn't hurt. However, I also had a sweep that morning. It was probably definitely the sweep but the eggplant makes a better story.

sharklet · 20/07/2012 23:33

Well, still waiting, but had a show this morning (YAY) so perhaps in a few days we might get somewhere.

On another note - DD is out for a sleepover tonight - we are off out to the local Indian for a hot curry.

Good luck everyone - am hoping all these babies get the heck out soon!!!

Kazriina · 21/07/2012 08:20

That's great news sharklet still nothing here, apart from more pregnancy insomnia! Surly my body should be giving me a break now :(

Well another day, another wait! I hope this baby arrives before of gets hot again!

Any return of signs pootle?

Pootle78 · 21/07/2012 08:53

Nothing going on here. How depressing!!!

Just deciding how far to venture from the house today want to go somewhere this afternoon probably about 45 mins from home (to take my notes and bag or not?!)

shark let has the curry done its job?
kaz hoping you're managing to get some rest, the sleep thing is the worst I think

Happy Saturday everyone, but will someone please have a baby to give hope to the rest of us!!!

Kazriina · 21/07/2012 11:08

If your taking the car there's no harm in taking it, but sods law states that if you don't you'll go into labour! so it's whether you would rather get the baby out without the bag, or have the bag and no baby!

I dont think I've ever been this bored waiting for things in my life!

The ILS plus their parents ' want to visit me before the baby comes at some point in the weekend' so I'm waiting to see if they just decent or actually let me know they are coming! 48 hours is a big time gap IMO!

Lots of achy, cervix opening thoughts for everyone Grin

Kazriina · 21/07/2012 11:09

Decsend**

Cheekychops84 · 21/07/2012 11:22

Been for an hour walk to coax mine out ! 39 weeks today I know I'm not overdue yet but my previous two were 7 days and 5 days over so thought I'd start early! I want to also go shopping about 40 mins away but nervous as the hospital in this town is so mank compared to ours Grin I will b taking my notes with me........

Pootle78 · 21/07/2012 12:47

Think I'm going to take notes, but working on theory that if I go into labour dh can put his foot down and get me home!!! I'm not even sure where we're going if a they have a hospital and b if they have a maternity ward so if we get caught speeding we may get a blues and twos escort!!!!

Thinking positive thoughts for everyone!!!

Pootle78 · 22/07/2012 09:32

Is anyone there? Or am I the last one standing?!

Got another sweep in 90 minutes :( so still waiting!

Cheekychops84 · 22/07/2012 09:58

I'm still here :( walk did jack ! Think I'm having a sweep on Thursday ? Never had one and now I kinda scared :( not ready for ppl to start poking down there yet lol

Kazriina · 22/07/2012 11:16

Nope still here too, been up since 3am with contractions 10 mins apart, but they have ground to a inconvenient halt! Dp is now fussing as he really wants baby to come do no work tomorrow Hmm

She definatly just too comfy in there :(
