Don't want to alarm anyone but my baby - my 3rd - was 42+16 days before she finally decided to make an appearance! I was fed up by the end but not so much with the pregnancy, mainly with the phone calls and texts, so I just decided not to answer the phone or any messages. Everyday on the school run I got "haven't you had that baby yet" it drove me mad! I recommend putting a post up on Facebook saying "NOT YET, THANKS FOR ASKING" and then just ignore it (until the baby arrives, and then you can spend the next 18 years posting up photos of your DC's every milestone!)
I'm a bit stubborn myself, so I hung on and refused the induction, and in the end it was a speedy (3 hour) labour and she didn't look at all overcooked, so I reckon those dating scans aren't as accurate as the hospitals like to think...
I did try everything to get things going: bouncing on the birth ball, pineapple, but I couldn't do curry because of the heartburn. None worked!
Also tried clary sage oil recommended by a midwife (but very important not to use this until you are overdue or around anyone else pregnant or having their period, its very powerful stuff), which brought on the Braxton Hicks, but nothing else.
I had a reflexology treatment which did make me relax, as hadn't been doing much of that with 2 other kids, and think that helped. 2 hours of foot massage - mmmm.
One midwife recommended "as much sex as you can stand" ha ha! I gave it my best, but thats no easy feat at 9 months pregnant!
Another overdue friend really recommended nipple tweaking, if anyone wants to give that a shot....
Finally at 42 weeks I had a sweep, the next day went for a hilly walk (ignore all those people who say you should stay at home, (unless you have a medical condition), walking is really good as it helps the babies head to press down on the cervix which triggers labour) and that night it all kicked off.
I was so relieved that the pregnancy was finally going to be over, that I got that baby out like a shot!
