Pregnant with no. 3 / 4 / 5...?!

Just wondering if anyone else is pg with their 3rd, 4th, 5th, or more?!

I am newly pg with baby number 4 and finding it a bit different this time.

Yesterday I flicked through a couple of magazines but the content didn't seem that relevant to me. I am quietly happy but not nearly as excited or nervous as I was before, especially the first time.

I know what kind of birth I want (same as the last two times) and I don't need to buy any stuff, so there doesn't seem so much to think about, at least until the scan.

I am also a bit worried about how other people are going to react when we tell them. There seems to be a general view that wanting 4 children must make us mad.

Hope I am not alone?!

I know what you mean about pregnancy dragging!

Apple - I know someone who last year found out she was 22 weeks pregnant, despite having a coil fitted. She was really worried and upset because she'd been drinking and generally not living the life of a pregnant woman. Baby was fine though.

4kids great that your BP has stabilised, hope you are OK. You sound as if you'd really like the induction now, just to have your lovely baby at last.

Moon, I had a sweep last time as a desperate measure to get my home birth. It was so worthwhile... avoided hospital and baby came the next day.

Poor you ood

I seem to be the opposite when I tell people how far I am they look Shock and go wow your so small! I feel quite big though and am doing the pregnant woman waddle!

Pretty sure SIL is not the slightest bit worried as she behaved like a non preg woman all through her last one Hmm.

MoonHare · 26/10/2012 20:22

Thanks Lime ...good to hear a positive story about a sweep, the only women I know who've had them it has either made no difference (and they've gone on days longer before spontaneous labour) or they've ended up with EMCS!!! Maybe I should consider it.......

40+7 tomorrow, my MW gave a +9/10 max for home birth......

Ood saw your posts on the SPD thread, really feel for you, I can imagine what a slog it must be.

4kidsplusbump · 26/10/2012 20:37

Well finally got update from the consultant! They are waiting 2 see what happens overnight, and hoping things start naturally. They said from the membrane sweep earlier things were looking good! Yes limeleaf, I am just desperate 4 this baby now! Whatever happens I will have 2 keep getting checked until he's born, so I figure it is easier 2 just get it over and done with now!

AppleCrumples · 26/10/2012 21:10

Ooh 4kids nearly there! Hope it all happens for you

moon in my last 2 pregs I had sweeps a few days over and then went into labour. Just wanted to give you another positive story x

cherrypiew3 · 26/10/2012 23:41

4kids Hope all goes well and it happens for you soon.

moon 40+7 you are nearly there now. It 's just a a shame about the home birth if you go much longer. Hope Lo puts in an appearance soon and you get the birth you want.

Apple I get the same reaction when I tell people how far along I am. Even though I am smaller this time than any of my other pregnancies I feel massive and have struggled with this pregnancy in ways I never did before.

DC are back at school next week and I am looking forward to the rest.

Hope everyone else is well.

AppleCrumples · 27/10/2012 09:46

Oh cherry am jealous! Dcs have just finished for half term and I'm really not looking forward to it! May have got used to daily peace and quiet and feel a bit stressed at keeping them entertained!

ShellyBobbs · 27/10/2012 16:36

Moon A sweep worked for me last time too, had it at 38+6, born the day after.

4kids Hope you're OK

Oood At 17 weeks I was really big, but I haven't got very much bigger since and I'm 38 weeks now. A lot of it will be bloat and baby will grow into it.

OoooOoooOoood · 27/10/2012 20:00

I've no muscles to hold it in , think that's part of my problem

ShellyBobbs · 27/10/2012 22:10

Haha, same here [hgrin]

NAR4 · 27/10/2012 22:50

My mother-in-law wanted me to get sterilized after no 3 and has let me know that she thinks 5 is just being silly. Any pregnancy aches and pains are always blamed on me 'over doing it by having so many children'.

With the government planning on caping child benefit at 2 children it encourages the view of the general population that more than 2 children is just irresponsible.

Most people assume this pregnancy is an accident and advise me to get my husband 'snipped'. Does anyone else find this offensive? I don't want my unborn child to be exposed to such prejudice associated with coming from a large family.

Rant over.

4kidsplusbump · 28/10/2012 04:41

Well still here everyone - and still no baby [hsad]

Feel like I have had a nightmare few days! Ended up getting out of the hospital last night as contractions all went away despite being really bad yesterday morning. The midwifes at the hospital told me to go for a walk round the hospital to try and keep things going around lunchtime, which I did (at my current slow snails pace) - which then sent my BP readings back through the roof [hconfused] , so they then said lay down and do nothing otherwise they wouldn't let me home due to high BP again! So looks like I can't win here!

Anyway on the plus point since I've been home I have managed to get a decent nights sleep (finally!) and contractions feel like they have started again - so really hoping that he may arrive today. Which would be helpful as the bp issues are becoming a real problem. The hospital staff clearly don't realise that laying in bed all day is just not practical with 4 kids at home!

I have to admit this pregnancy is turning out to be similar to my first - which was a nightmare! So much for everyone saying he would just 'fall out' being my 5th!

Hope everyone else is ok. Will update if there is any more news!

OoooOoooOoood · 28/10/2012 06:23

Good luck 4kidsandbump

Is anyone else on their last one? I'm almost certain I'm getting sterilised this time. Said I wanted 4 and I couldn't do another pregnancy/section anyway. It still feels very final though :(

ShellyBobbs · 28/10/2012 11:59

Good luck 4Kids

AppleCrumples · 28/10/2012 12:36

Good luck 4kids

ooood last time was supposed to be the last time! This pregnancy has been a struggle not just for me but for everyone else in my family. For the sake of my sanity I have every intention of being sterilised after it's over. I am fairly certain I could not
cope with another!

I was sad when dd started nursery and I realised my baby days were over and probably will be again when this one goes off to school x

4kidsplusbump · 28/10/2012 12:47

Well still here and still contracting, although I think it needs 2 rack up a bit b 4 we venture 2 the hospital! Ood dh had the snip about 2 weeks after we found out we were expecting this baby. No 4 was also meant 2 b our last!

Oh and just as it looks like things may b kicking off with labour, the in laws who haven't been for 6 months r meant 2 b visiting in the next couple of hours! Just what I need while I'm in early labour!

4kidsplusbump · 28/10/2012 22:47

ShellyBobbs · 28/10/2012 23:28

Congratulations 4Kids Fantastic news [hgrin]

gaby274 · 28/10/2012 23:43

Hi im onto baby number 5 and im finding it so much easier havent been through it 4 times already i know what to expect. Good luck xx

NAR4 · 29/10/2012 08:08

Congrats 4kids. Your post bought back memories of my 4th. The midwives were convinced she would practically fall out and even talked me through what to do if I suddenly gave birth at home. My labour didn't progress and I needed a seretonin drip to keep it going. Even then she still took 38 hours with the drip. Hope this one doesn't take as long.

AppleCrumples · 29/10/2012 09:07

Congrats 4 kids welcome baby Harry. Hope your enjoying lots of cuddles x

LimeLeafLizard · 29/10/2012 09:56

Ooh I went away for the weekend and have lots to catch up on!

Congratulations, 4kids (you need to namechange to 5kids now!) Thanks.
Welcome baby Harry!

How are you doing, Moon? Thinking of you...

NAR a couple of people have asked me this time 'was it planned' Hmm, but I tend to assume they are just the types who can't empathise with other peoples' different choices.

That said, I think there is a general assumption that everyone should want two children, a boy and a girl. Therefore people assume that parents of two girls wanted a boy, parents of only children must be selfish not to give their child a sibling, and those of us who have more than two are irresponsible, etc. All very irritating for anyone who happens not to conform to the stereotype!

Congratulations 4kids excited for you and hope some of the birth magic might rub off on me. Looking forward to hearing more about it when you get time (!?!)

I haven't posted for a couple of days - too fed up!!

My MIL left on Sat and my parents arrived later that day for the duration to help with the child care if/when this baby ever arrives!!! Really thought things were kicking off last night. But all tailed off after about an hour. So disappointed I sat and cried. I am an emotional wreck! I just feel sooo much pressure to deliver this baby.

9 days over now so not sure home birth is on the cards anymore. Left a mssg for my cmw to chat things over and talk about a sweep. Have an appt with her tomorrow anyway but that will be 10 days........
