A new thread for us all to share our mutual anxieties, hopes and fears.

Hi everyone, Have not been on here for a few days (will catch up with everybody's news in a bit)....I had a bit of a scare yesterday - had a small amount of spotting which started yesterday morning. Of course, I instantly feared the worst - and booked myself into the EPU for a scan which I had this morning - everything was okay thank goodness - they've dated me at 8 weeks and 5 days which is about right I think. STill worried about this spotting though.

slinkstah · 07/03/2006 17:32

mygirl- will do as you say- tommorrowGrin was on labour ward before i just feel daft ringing labour ward about a suspected infection- i might see if i can get a gp appointment instead, wish my hospital had some walk in place.

HK- bless your ds, he sounds very healthy. your appointment sounds successful too, im glad they are looking after you.

cori- sounds like baby might have ran out of room, so movement has lessened as he can no longer twist and turn that much. Its good you can go in for monitoring though

wish- hopefully theres nothing to worry about, will keep fingers crossed though for your next appointment.

wools- eeeek spotting! always stressful time, i have had early bleed with all my pregnancys before, this pg i had one at 11 weeks, the midwife i saw said that it was probably due to an implantation bleed which had only just been able to escape. I hope it stops soon and in the meantime you should take it easy, feet up and get dh to do everything:)

Wills · 07/03/2006 17:53

slink - hows it all going.

Cori - agree with slinkstar that it sounds like little one has run out of room.

Hk - ouch

wish - oh good luck honey. We had bad results with the nuchal scan and went through hell until the blood results came in and took my odds from 1:150 to 1:1112! Thinking of you.

Wools - fingers crossed

Bought something for the baby today and then spent the rest of the day worrying that I'd somehow jinxed it. So still a complete looney.

Finally saw my midwife last week (it was the first appointment - at 28 weeks!!!). She's agreed with me that I'm possibly 4 weeks further than the scan's predicted. now I'm in a quandry. Not sure whether to push it and get it established one way or the other. its just that if this little one goes to 40 weeks that would really be 44? Do you see what I mean?

Arabica · 07/03/2006 23:20

Hi Cori, hope you feel more movement tomorrow--you're supposed to be enjoying maternity leave not spending it in hospital!
Wishingchair, sorry to hear about the soft marker.
Wools, I had spotting too and it was very worryingbut when I was scanned they showed me a dark area on the picture and explained that this was the blood that was still to come outyou could clearly see it was from outside the womb and was probably just the remains of an implantation bleed.

HellKat · 08/03/2006 07:36

Morning all.
Cori- good luck today.
Wools- I had so much bleeding in this pg (clotting and heavy) and it turned out to be excess womb lining (my body had overprotected the baby). Once it was shed that was it. Fingers crossed nothing in over a mth. Good luck to you.
How's everyone?

diddle · 08/03/2006 07:57

HK - so pleased it went well, sounds like they're really looking after you, excellent.

Cori - Glad you went to get it checked out and even better that the heartbeat was stable. hope its more active today.

Wishingchair - its so easy to worry isn't it, growing your child is so important and it is totally normal fo rus to worry about anything and eveyrthing, nobody will be able to tell you not to, so i won't do that. But from what you've said it sounds very positive. Hold onto that thought.

Wools - I had spotting at around that time too, and i was terrified. Went and had a scan the same day, and we were totally reassured, there are so many reasons for spotting during pregnancy. The doctor told me that it was definitly not from the baby, and that there was nothing at all to worry about. It could just have been the placenta growing a bit more. I would definitly keep an eye on it though. did they say if your cervix was closed???

Wills - you sound just like me worrying about how much you've bought. I would definitly get the date confirmed, surely if baby wouldn't go to 40 weeks, would it???

Hello to anyone else i've forgotten, hope you're all ok x x x
Everything fine here at diddles house, had a bit of backache, but thats definitly from overdoing it a bit, gonna try and take it easier today.

HellKat · 08/03/2006 07:59

Thanks hun
Make sure you take it easy girl!!! I know easier said than done though lol Wink

cori · 08/03/2006 09:51

Well baby is moving more today. I dont think the lack movements was down to running out room, the movements had decreased are the ones that feel like a limb running across the top of your tummy. However they seem to have returned last night and this morning. The baby usually can sense when I put my hand on top of my bump and gives a little hello kick Grin. Have a midwife appointment tomorrow anyway.

Hellkat, if there is any chance of this baby going to be 10lbs, I am going to take up smoking Wink.No seriously any chance of a VBAC will be gone if gets above 8lbs i think. I will ask for estimate tomorrow.

mygirllolipop · 08/03/2006 09:54

Morning,

HellKat - Pleased that the apointment went great and you feel looked after. Also great that your little man is well.

Cori - I'm glad you got things checked over and it's very good that there's a strong hb and movements. How are things today?

Wish - please don't let this upset you. You still have a small risk factor and this marker does usually go away by itself so it could be gone in 3wks time. ((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))) Hope you are feeling better. Don't feel guilty about buying lots!

Wools - I have had bleeding in all my pg's apart from this one (but only 4wks). We think the first pg it was something from the cervix at 5-6wks but all was fine. With dd2 it was 1 spot of implantation bleed at 4-5wks. The third pg unfortunately ended in mc but was more than spotting (obv) at around 5 wks. DD3 I had a haematoma and bleed for 4wks on and off from wk8. I also bled in labour but they don't know what that was. So the odds are good for you, please don't worry.

Slinkstah - hope you are getting yourself checked out right now!

Wills - I would def get dates sorted just in case you have the baby at what they think is 36wks but really is 40 weeks for you. You wouln't want any uneccessary intervention

wools · 08/03/2006 12:46

Good afternoon everybody,
Thanks for all your reassurances - it makes me feel a lot better. Haven't noticed any spotting today - so hopefully it's gone away. Am off now to my booking in appointment so will let you all know how it goes.

slinkstah · 08/03/2006 13:00

wills- did they not do an early scan and date you? 4 weeks is alot to be out! so theres a chance you could have baby at 36 weeks and if that mean't 40 weeks and you had the baby early anyway like at 37 weeks then it would be 34 weeks! which is very soon isn't it.

can't believe soon we will have our first ever graduates to this thread! there is 8/9 weeks for both cori and petunia and maybe wills if dates are 4 weeks outShock
i wonder who will be first? whoever is will have to set up a postnatal thread for us to keep in touch after:)

hey wills whilst looking at stats realised your in london too, are you up to coming to mini meetup?

mygirl- i am gonna wait until friday when i have a cervix scan, i thought of going to gp but i don't trust em with my new metal cervix lol and friday is not long away and i think it might be clearing too.

wools - great news about bleeding stopping, good luck for your booking:)

going4potty · 08/03/2006 16:07

Hi, hope its ok for me to join up. Iknow my mc turned out to be an ectopic but i already know some of you guys and feel very comfortable with you if thats ok Smile

mygirllolipop · 08/03/2006 16:17

Hi G4P - we meet again!
Slink - I'll let you off but you must mention it when you get the metal cerix scanned! Cos if it was an infection it might clear up but when you stop the anti-biotics it would prob come back and be resitant to those antibiotics.

cori · 08/03/2006 16:18

Of course. All our losses result in grief and fear for the subsequent pregnancies. I dont know your story. We have a stats thread if you would like to up date your details. Congratulations and good luck.

HellKat · 08/03/2006 16:21

Cori- Great news!!!!! Lol at vbac if it's big.
G4p- Great to see you on here hun!!!

Having a fun day...........not!! Dp being an arse!!! Oh well. Going to have a soak soon and chill. Maybe if I relax I might turn into a calm wonder woman that he'll prefer Wink. Grrrrrrrr Men!!!!

How's everyone???
Just had fun letting ds2 loose with his wellies in the puddles so now he's running round in his little body suit 'cos his jeans got soaked! He had fun Grin

wools · 08/03/2006 16:30

Just back from booking in appointment - can't believe how quick it was. I was only there for half an hour in total....The first time I went - it took about 2 hours. It's all starting to feel much more real now. Got my nuchal fold test on 31st March - which I can't say I'm looking forward to - I always fear the worst with these things.

Wishingchair - with my last pregnancy the scan picked up 2 soft markers in the brain and bowel and I was so worried about it. More often than not - these markers turn out to be something and nothing - I think that the consultants feel obliged to point them out but really this does cause more anxiety than is necessary. I'm sure everything will be fine the next time you go back - try to put it out of your mind (easier said than done)

going4potty · 08/03/2006 16:33

Thanks everybody, sounds like you had fun with ds hk, hope dp stops whatevers annoying you Grin men can annoy without trying cant they? My ds has been sick at nursery Sad i think its just his cough causing it as he has no temp, but cant help spoilling him when hes poorly.

diddle · 08/03/2006 17:05

welcome G4P and congrats again, just because your last pg was an ectopic doesn;t mean you haven't suffered a loss, you are most welcome over here, hope we can be a great support for you.

HK - sounds like you've had a fun day today, with DS anyway. Give DP a kick up the arse!

going4potty · 08/03/2006 17:05

There is an unexpected down side to spoiling your kids " weight gain " just made ds a large chocolate milk shake and now i fancy some too Grin

diddle · 08/03/2006 17:13

G4P yummy, i'm having a bit of a choccie craving i think. can't stop eating it, or anything else! Grin

Wills · 08/03/2006 17:22

Hi all.

Slink - yes they checked my dates at the three scans i've had which is why I'm not pushing it. Its just that it all feels wrong. All the markers are saying that baby is more advanced that the scan says. for instance. Although i didn't say at the time my first movements were roughly at 8 weeks (like I don't think so!). Also I measure 3.5 weeks more (with both my daughter's I measure roughly a week LESS than I was). At 20 weeks scan my little is distinctly heavy - both dd's were around the 6lb point.
Finally (and I haven't made a thing of this but) I was on steriods when I conceived and I know that this can slow initial growth of baby (although by the time their an adult its all evened out etc).

So do you see what I mean?

Going4Potty. Its beyond me why on earth you are worried about joining up. Loss is loss! Welcome on board.

Wills · 08/03/2006 17:25

chocolate - don't talk to me about chocolate. I'm normally one of those rare women that don't particularly like chocolate. The ONLY time I've ever enjoyed chocolate is whilst preggers or bfing. I'm on the hunt for decent cocoa powder so I can make serious chocolate muffins. That is so not like me.

Also - had to sign papers at work the other day saying that they'd gone through all the working risks and that they were looking after me etc. Anyway they had a series of risks associated with pregnancy. One of them was Weight Gain. I'll be you any money you like it was written by a man!

twocatsonthebed · 08/03/2006 17:42

Hello everyone,

May I join too please? I'd just joined the ttc after miscarriage thread, having tried for six long months after my missed miscarriage, and then got a BFP - so I am convinced of the magic powers of mumsnet!

I'm just six weeks or so - and daren't quite believe in this pregnancy yet, just in case. Will I get over this?

wools · 08/03/2006 17:57

Welcome G4P and Twocats. I know what you mean about not quite believing it....I'm only just starting to believe it myself (8 weeks + 6 days) Hopefully we will soon get over this.

Wills · 08/03/2006 18:19

Ummmm. Sort of. I'm 29 + 3 but still had a panic attack the other day becuase I actually bought something for when the baby arrives! However at the same time I'm not doom and gloom 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Not sure I'm convinced that I'm going to be holding a happy healthy baby in 10+ weeks time but am more confident than 20 weeks ago. Grin
