Congrats Wommer - sounds amazing! Can't wait for mine.

Cewafwb - where in SA would you live if you moved here? We're in Cape Town (my husband is from here and I'm from the South of England). In many ways I love it but to be honest given the choice I would rather live in the UK (family and friends being the most important but also just the British SOH, food (!), shopping, sport etc...). The weather here is obviously better (though the last month bar yesterday and today has been pretty shocking!) and there are some great things, but equally some very negative aspects of living here. Definitely a difficult decision to make such a big move - I wouldn't do it unless you had work lined up as difficult to find though I suppose that's the same everywhere at the moment!

iowmum88 · 07/11/2011 19:37

I am a total d**k was looking at my calendar all wrong. I will be 13+1!!! Sorry for the rant earlier. I deserve a slap!!

SirCharles · 08/11/2011 00:20

iowmum thx for the tip re pants. I shall remember that as I am going from work to the scan and then back to work before going onto a dinner! Need to plan my wardrobe.......

alex I don't know about the flu jab. Am tempted as flu could be fatal to me or the kid but not sure how bad it is supposed to be this season so still considering my options! Tbh I am spending 3 monthawing the southern hemisphere so not sure if flu jab is strictly necessary. Depends how many germ laden Brits will come visit me :)

montsi ooh I might need to speak with you re mat care in SA, if you don't mind.... So confusing. Compared to DH contracting day rate private HC for prenatal appointments seems affordable just not sure how I find a care provider! Is there a SA equivalent of MN? DM me if you don't mind sharing info.

Good luck with the yoga ladies. Trying Pilates here!

Fed up! Have had this cold on & off for a couple of weeks. Still have nausea every day for most of day. Plus so tired.
Being moany, but I just feel like I'm going to feel rubbish and uncomfortable for the next 30 weeks.

Wommer · 08/11/2011 08:12

Hey all,
Am telling work today (that afore mentioned bastion of male chauvinism) and am crapping all kinds of masonry!
Wish me luck!
Xx

dobbybono · 08/11/2011 08:36

hi,glad everyone is starting to feel a little bit better and all getting our scans done, mine is on the 21st nov.na7asha i'm 38 so am a bit apprehensive about the nuchal scan, i think it's 1 in 164 for downs, but i'm more concerned about other conditions like edwards syndrome.
i'm also panicking about money but i'm sure everything will work it self out in the end. Jusst wish i would stop waking up at 2am full of sheer panic!

alwaysanauntie · 08/11/2011 11:47

Good luck Wommer hope it goes ok!

ginger hope you're feeling better, sugary or salty food and a lie down (if possible) helps me. I'm just about over the crap cold I had for the last 10th days, still feel knackered though!

Also, had my nt scan & blood test this morning, baby was a bit curled up so measuring a couple of days later than last time, but they didn't bother changing my dates. Amazing how much more there is to see: nose & ears, baby gulping/opening its mouth, even individual bones in fingers, feet and spine! Miraculous, just hope results are ok (2 weeks to wait). Will stick myself back on list next time I'm on laptop as I seem to have fallen off it. Good luck to everyone else having scans xx

CrackersandCheese · 08/11/2011 12:52

Ginger you're totally entitled to feel sorry for yourself. I know when I've felt bad I couln't help it. Just rest up and put yourself and baby first. I'm sure it won't feel like that for the rest of the pregnancy.

I generally feel sorry for myself because I don't like my job. I'm hoping that something will turn up so I don't have to go back after mat leave. To be fair, if I wasn't pregnant it would be worse. At least right now I can count down the time until May, whereas otherwise it would be indefinite.

Good luck with work wommer. Will be interested to hear what their response is.

dobbybono · 08/11/2011 14:17

good luck womer i wish you all the luck in the world, chin up and sock it to em!

Wommer · 08/11/2011 17:58

Hi all - thanks for the gl messages Smile
Actually was quite surprised (pleasantly) by the guys in the office - except for one, but he's short, old and ugly and spends far far to much time enjoying his own company and he looks a bit like a goblin from the fairy tales you read as a child - but the rest were really nice and congratulated me (!!) which was a big surprise!
(they probably think i'm being a proper female and breeding actually - lol)
Hope you're all good
Xxx

hippieshake · 09/11/2011 10:28

Morning all! I hope you are all well.

Just a quick one...

Is anyone else still having cramps? Mine had died off but every now and then I get a bit of a niggle. Had a scan yesterday (I'm 10+5) baby was fine, really strong heartbeat, kicking it's little legs about. I just wondered if anyone else was having them?

xx

iowmum88 · 09/11/2011 10:34

Hi hippieshake I still get the occasionally I think it mite be things just stretching but dont hold me to that!!

hippieshake · 09/11/2011 10:39

That's what I thought. I mean the midwife wasn't concerned yesterday, and the baby was fine. Smile

Thank you x

MarKettle · 09/11/2011 11:03

Hi everyone, have been popping in to read the updates but not had time for posting anything!

Had scan on Monday, all went really well. The appointment was so long, the baby wouldn't stay in a good position for the nuchal measurement to be taken but I have booked in for the blood test with MW at 16 weeks. Next scan on the 10th January, and appointment with consultant at the VBAC Clinic on 16th March.

Got my handheld notes back, little worried my MW has put my height down as 167cm rather than 177cm - easily corrected but glad I spotted it!

MarKettle · 09/11/2011 11:06

Oops, meant to add - I seem to have cramping pain at night once I'm in bed or if I'm sitting still for a long period, MW said it's nothing to worry about unless it becomes 'worryingly painful'.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 09/11/2011 12:28

Hello all, long time no check in. I've been trying to keep baby things to the back of my mind until 12 weeks (plus was busy getting married). I'm 11+3 today and started becoming a bit anxious about my lack of scan letter. Turns out the hospital have never heard of me, and the GP has no record of my booking in appointment, despite that having taken 40 minutes, with a student MW present too, and copious amounts of blood taken the day after. I have no idea how this is possible but it looks like the MW just didn't send off the forms. I feel totally gutted, even though I know it will be resolved. I think I'm just upset because I've tried so hard to be relaxed but was really expecting something concrete to be happening soon, and instead I'm making a series of increasingly flabbergasted phone calls.

Russki · 09/11/2011 12:34

Hi all - glad to hear everyone's scans went all, although amazed by the detail that some of you are able to see! I had mine a couple of days ago, and it was great to see the little arms and legs moving, but i must say, i couldn't see much more than that!

also, does anyone know how they date exactly? Do they measure the baby and date it from that, or do they do it differently? Just being slightly paranoid and wondering if it's a little smaller than the average for 12w4.

Otherwise, I have been SO tired, and seem unable to throw off a cold and stuffy nose that i have had for weeks now. Guess i'm just feeling a little run down.

hippieshake · 09/11/2011 13:53

Russki I think they measure it and go off that. Which can be wrong. I went for an early scan on 21st October and they told me I was 7 weeks even though I knew that wasn't possible, and I was 8 weeks. I went again yesterday and miraculously I was right, and I'm now 10+5.

They told my sister that she was 10 days earlier than she thought she was. Even when my nephew started to turn a week and a half before they thought he would, the midwifes were still adamant that my sister was wrong. Turns out that by my sister's dates, she was exactly on time.

Surely not all babys grow at exactly the same rate.

Get some rest and put your feet up Smile

Enfyshedd · 09/11/2011 18:18

Hello everyone. Had my scan on Monday, but have been too preoccupied with a poorly cat to post - my furry baby appears to have idiopathic cystitis, which is amusing considering my DP has also had a few episodes of nausea in the morning as well. Who says pregnancy isn't contagious!

Scan went well though. Totally with Wommer on not believing that that little wriggly thing is growing inside me. "Shrimp" (as I have taken to calling it since it looks like one in the picture) has 2 arms, 2 legs, 1 head and a little beating heart, so all seems to be going to plan. Shrimp was also being just like its mother by being an awkward little so-and-so and hiding in the corner of my groin (I still feel bruised from how hard the scanner had to be pushed into my stomach to find it), and was also being in totally the wrong position to start with. After a little bit of persuasion we were treated to a little somersault and managed to get the right angle for measuring. Shrimp is apparently 3 days younger than we thought going by the size (43mm), so we're now looking at 27th May instead.

Grin

Just wish I could shake off the rest of this morning sickness - I'm getting fed up of toast every morning now.

Na7asha · 10/11/2011 13:26

Hi all. Had my scan on Tuesday and it was AMAZING. Was so shocked to see a teeny tiny baby, everything in place behaving beautifully and letting them get a good view of the neck for nuchal measurements.

dobbybono - am worried now because she didn't say what she was doing really, just taht everything was fine. Do you know what they're checking for and if they can see problems straight away?

Am having it all too easy, which is of course anither thing for this super paranoid first timer to worry about. Baby wasn't moving around much at all, a bit of a wriggle now & then but I'd have been happier seeing cartwheels ;)

All in all, amazing. Oh and my dd has moved to 20/5 : )

Na7asha · 10/11/2011 13:29

Ok, just googled nuchal scans and it appears a thicker measurement can help identify higher risks of chromosomal defects such as Down's syndrome. She didn't tell me there was a problem and in fact siad everything was fine. Had a blood test so I hope that comes back with low risk also.

Decided if we came back high risk we wouldn't explore further, just prepare ourselves for a potentially special baby.

bigboobsatlast · 10/11/2011 15:43

Hi everyone, not posted for ages but have been keeping up to date with everyones news. Had scan this morning - it was brilliant. Both babies doing fine. Confirmed ID twins and due date moved slightly to 23.05.12. Feels so good to be able to share our news at last.
Congrats to all those who have had scans and best wishes and good luck to those still waiting to see their little ones. Roll on 2nd trimester! (and lets hope we all start blooming and can shake off this bloody sickness and feeling crapness!).

BlueCrane · 10/11/2011 19:53

Evening all...just wrote a long post to say hello and that I'm back from my seriously tiring trip to NYC but MN lost it when I pressed 'post' Angry. I haven't the energy tp write it again but all is well except for crazy jet lag and feeling soooo sick. Scan on Tuesday! Catch up again soon!

MarKettle · 11/11/2011 09:28

Hope you had a great trip, BlueCrane. Love NYC this time of year.. then again, with Magnolia Bakery I think I'd love it any time of year Blush

Russki, I know your question has already been answered but the crown-to-rump measurements they take do leave them space for interpretation anyway to allow for different size babies. As has been said before, it's not exactly accurate and I think most of us with regular cycles probably know our real dates give or take a day either side (such as hippieshake and her sister). The chances of any of us delivering on the EDD written on our notes is slim!

There is a thread (on Pregnancy, I think) that brings up 'lying' by HCPs on your notes - eg writing down measurements etc that they haven't taken, or leaving out bits of information. Make sure you check your notes, and if possible make notes of things yourself. When I gave birth to DS, I lost a lot of blood in theatre and my DH was rushed out with DS as it was very frightening. Afterwards, they gave me all sorts of medication and treatment. Anyway, I mentioned this to my MW this time around and there is absolutely no record of any of this taking place and I, of course, can't remember the finer details!

Cewafwb · 11/11/2011 12:02

I also had a shocker with ds2 and between 20 weeks and 38 weeks my consultant with ds3 spent the entire time trying to track down the consultant form ds2 who dealt with me then and eventually, just in time, managed to 'remember' the situation which had been horrific all round and between them they decided a c section was definitely the best idea. My poor mother (and ds2) came to see me and meet her second grandson and found him in the delivery room on his own, no nappy, no towel (had kicked it off) wee everywhere, screaming his heart out having just been born, with no one around and with blood all over the room! You can imagine what she thought then! Poor little boy, it is a memory/thought - that will scar me for life, I am just so pleased they can't remember these things from that first day!!! Sorry for horrid discussion! x
