Cewafwb - that sounds horrific, but as you say more for you than the little one. We put our trust in health professionals, got to keep your eye on them all the time. My mum has been in hospital for a year and while they genuinly care they're simply too short staffed. So, I intend to ask questions and make sure they're what they say they will, when then should.

A great plan now eh, lets see if I manage on the height of labour!!!?

In other news, as a first timer this whole pregnancy thing is showing I have so much to learn. All these pains I never knew about. I though pregnant women glided through life in a rosy bubble. Not true is it. I have the most painful pain in my left hip which I can't seem to shake. Am concerned it is Pelvic Girdle Pain so am booking in with the dr to get it checked out. All I know is it hurts so much I can't put weight on my left leg... and it's far too early for that sort of thing surely!

But, being pg has me scouring the classifieds and I have joined a local facebook group that sell baby stuff. It might be early but I got a bit carried away and am off to see a pram that's also a carry cot, pushchair & car seat this afternooon. Whohooooo, is a whole new world of shopping :)

Hope all you lovely ladies are well and hey, we're nearly done with the 1st trimester. Yay :) :) :)

Na7asha · 12/11/2011 10:37

Hmmm, why when I post someones name does it not appear bold? What am I doing wrong?

alwaysanauntie · 12/11/2011 15:34

Na7asha are you putting the * either side of the name (no spaces)? Otherwise your star may have a different format so mn doesn't recognise it? On the pain front I've been really lucky although am starting to get sore lower back and feels like I've got a trapped nerve in my hip if I'm trying to walk quickly, nowhere near as bad as yours though, so hope you can get it diagnosed & treated at the drs.

I've got a brother & sister trying to give me all their unwanted baby stuff, a lot of it's gender specific, so think I may avoid taking on things I don't want until we know what flavour we're getting. Plus there's a whole load of junk there I don't want to deal with!

MarKettle · 12/11/2011 18:17

Na7asha, I've already picked out a new pushchair Blush. Anyone else tempted by the Uppababy Vista? So many great reviews.
We still have the cot (DS has it converted to a sort of sofa in the playroom at the minute, will have to get him something else to bounce on sit on once the baby needs the cot), we have a crib for our room and all sheets, blankets etc Just going to buy new mattresses.

I've spent a good hour or so browsing reusable nappies online this afternoon, too. Anyone else used/using them for their other children? Thinking about how many disposables we used with DS makes me feel a bit bad (not to mention the cost!) so I'd love to give the 'real' nappies a go.

alwaysanauntie, it's unbelievable how much stuff people want to give you. I think I've been a bit guilty of that myself! I haven't kept many baby clothes as two of my cousins had boys the same year DS was born, I only kept his special outfits. Almost all my friends had baby girls last year and are itching to hand over all their stuff!

Na7asha I really hope the hip pain eases off on its own

AlexTasha · 13/11/2011 11:14

markettle and cwafwb* EEEEEEK those stories are scary, I feel really sad that happened to both of you. The lack of proffesionalism is disgusting really. Hope this time round is better!!

Na7asha and Markettle have either of you looked at the Mutsy Pro or the Icandy peach? They both have great reviews and look really nice too! I can't WAIT to go baby shopping. I have been waiting til after my 12 week scan as I am too scared to jinx anything yet tho, but thats on Tuesday so providing all goes well I am going on a spreeeeeeeeee. Also excited to get maternity clothes, any excuse to go shopping! Does anyone have any good recommendations for maternity brands?

Also, how long does the baby usually sleep in the same room as you? I was thinking of getting a bedside cot. ANy thoughts?

:)

MarKettle · 13/11/2011 13:18

I've heard great things about the iCandy Peach, my friend has one and loves it! Will have a look at Mutsy Pro. Uppababy is fairly new to the UK, but it go such a good review in Which? that I know my DH will want that one haha I like the 'floating' bar thing on the Uppababy as DH refused to use our smaller stroller with DS as he was constantly kicking it. I found shopping for a pushchair really hard last time as I'm tall, but it's nice to see lots of adjustable handlebar height options now. Living in the countryside means that DS's 'big' pushchair is a bit of a state now, I really should freecycle it as although we've replaced the inner tubes on the wheels and it's clean, it's really tatty. Any excuse to go shopping

The length of time your baby spends sleeping in your room will depend entirely on what sort of baby you get and your own preferences, really! You may have a large/ tall baby who outgrows a crib or Moses basket quickly (nothing stopping you having a full cot in your room, though), you may find you just can't settle all in one room... it's one of those things you just won't know until you try it. Do you mean one of those cots that has three sides and sort of connects to your bed? I wish I'd had one with DS as he usually ended up in our bed so I could BF him lying on my side (so much more comfortable post-caesarean). DS was in our room until he was 6 months as that's when he could sit up in his crib and it didn't feel safe having him there anymore, and he woke up less frequently for nighttime feeds. I have friends who moved their DS at 5 weeks because he snored so much they couldn't sleep in the same room as him! Also have friends with a 14 month old who still sleeps in their room.

AlexTasha · 13/11/2011 14:22

markettle I'm 5'10, I didnt realise there were shorter and tall strollers. Hrm, better make sure the one I get has an adjustable handle! Thanks for the tip. I will have a look at uppababy! I want one that is a pram / troller / car seat all-in-one basically.

Yeah, we are thinking of getting one of the ones that has the 3 sides and you basically lie nexto the baby. Only thing is I sleep nexto the window so do you think if it was open a little that would be bad for the baby? Obviously with blinds and curtains closed though? Thanks for the advice on sleeping in the same room, will just see how it goes when the baby arrives! :)

iowmum88 · 13/11/2011 14:43

Hi alextasha on the bedroom situation it mite be informative to u if u find out more about cot death. It's obviously every mums worst nightmare with a newborn and I had sleepless nights the 1st few weeks with my DS worrying about it. But it may help u figure out sleeping arrangement best for you and baby.
Honestly was really reluctant to post about this subject but I think it may help.

MarKettle · 13/11/2011 15:54

On the subject of SIDS, I should really point out that DS didn't sleep in our bed, I just fed him in bed during the night and he was put in his crib to sleep.

I remember being worried all through pregnancy about all the things that can happen and just wanted the my baby out... only to realise there are a million more things to worry about once they're born. Your MW and HV will talk you through all the current guidelines and will help you feel confident about the choices you make. With regards to the window being open, you don't want your baby getting too hot but don't want them breathing in very cold air - buy a room thermometer and make sure it stays between 16-20c

I'm also 5'10, it really helps to try out the pushchairs as we bought a compact stroller online to use around Brighton (Laines + huge pushchair = disaster!), my back and shoulders really suffered after a day or so using it.

There's a video on youtube of the Uppababy that shows the floating arch rear axle, it gives clear foot space between the back tyres so great if you have a long stride. We'll be making a trip to the Kiddicare warehouse after Christmas to try it out (and probably all the other models!).

hippieshake · 13/11/2011 18:28

I've been looking at the Icandy apple jogger, it looks like it'll last a good long while, with a maxicosi car seat. Although I'm completely clueless about these things and don't know if it's an expensive option.

I know the maxi cosi car seats on last upto 15kg, which they estimate at around 12 months on their website. Is that a really short space of time for a carseat? xx

alwaysanauntie · 13/11/2011 20:17

I've been looking at pushchairs etc as well, have a friend pg with twins & she's going for the double icandy. I was thinking about a mclaren that does from birth with separate car seat as my bro & sis had bugaboos and they take up a whole car boot and can be hard to manouvre if not on tarmac, they've both bought mclaren buggies as cheaper, easier & smaller. Have restrained myself so far but think i'll go on a spree after scan on 4th Jan!

On sleeping front, my sister had 3 children 3 & under (inc newborn) in their bedroom from when oldest was born as they were rennovating house, only issue was once one was awake the other two soon followed! Think it's all down to personal preference & space, we'll have to move chest of drawers out to fit baby in, not so keen on getting clean undies from another room every morning for more than a few months!

MarKettle · 13/11/2011 20:36

DS was in his Maxi-Cosi group 0+ for 8 months, by which point his legs were too long for the rear facing seat and he was heavy enough to move into a group 1 Bebeconfort 360 (which is now a Maxi-Cosi Axiss).

alwaysanauntie, completely agree with the impracticality of certain pushchairs. It seems Maclaren are popular as second pushchairs for their compact fold and lightweight frames. I've been through 4 pushchairs with DS, never found a 'perfect' one as different models are good for different purposes!

Wommer · 13/11/2011 20:40

Interesting to ear there's a couple of other tall mums to be - I'm 6 ft. Have been told that this means we show later (although I feel like I am already) and that we end up with a relatively smaller bump than most.
Anyone else hear this/know from experience that it's true or not?
Hit 13 weeks today (as per new date) that's gotta be 2nd tri hasn't it?!
Xxx

MarKettle · 13/11/2011 21:03

Wommer, I've read that, too. I don't think I began to show any later than average with DS, and I'm definitely starting to curve out a little now (12 weeks).
However, later on in my pregnancy my bump wasn't so squashed up as I have a long torso, so it didn't start directly under my boobs iyswim and I had a little more room in there for my lungs so I wasn't as breathless as other ladies can get towards the end. If you have a long torso I guess you just have that extra bit of space to accommodate the uterus without squashing up all your other organs.
As DS was transverse breech from 30 weeks my bump took on an odd shape then anyway!

Cewafwb · 13/11/2011 21:06

Wommer yup you made it! Congratulations on arriving into your second trimester! 12 weeks today and scan on tuesday. x

CrackersandCheese · 14/11/2011 16:49

GingerLemonTea · 14/11/2011 18:45

Scan tomorrow. Scared its not all ok, but excited too! Am so nauseous & tired.

Dozeyland · 14/11/2011 20:49

Hey everyone, just catching up on the thread:

Congratulations to everyone and your scans!

few updates from me...

Scan on the 5th November went brilliantly, the baby had a strong heartbeat, very wriggly and perfect sizing for my dates. EDD is 21st May. we chose not to have the NT and blood test, as we didnt with DD, i'm low risk as i'm only 22 and we wouldnt terminate anyway. The sonographer whispered "thats a very tiny nt anyway"

I havent been that well the past 2 days but i think its a virus, its easing off now i think. just felt temp/achy/headaches/ horrid! I did have the flu jab but this was 3 weeks a go and didnt feel unwell then.

Just feeling very tired most days.

Squidink - Sorry to hear your news, hugs to you x

Morning all,

good luck to everyone having their scans today and hurray for all the good scans so far this week Grin. I have mine on Thursday and I'm quite nervous but really looking forward to feeling 'officially' pregnant once I see a healthy bean. Somehow it doesn't feel real until I've seen it, even with all the throwing up and feeling shattered Confused.

lucy23110 · 15/11/2011 10:10

Leaving in half hour for scan and feel so so nervous and sick (not MS). fingers crossed, good luck For others have scans today and this week.

VeronicaSpeedwell · 15/11/2011 11:51

Congratulations to everyone on the happy scans, and good luck to those still waiting. I'm not on till next Tuesday, trying to distract myself!

BlueCrane · 15/11/2011 14:52

lucy hope all went well with the scan...2.5hours until mine and I can't concentrate at work at all and my stuffy head from this silly cold isn't helping either!! Just so much to do and no brain nor energy nor will really to get it done this afternoon and my work deadline looming fast next week....grrrr.... keep dreaming of the sofa and my duvet!!

Cewafwb · 15/11/2011 14:59

Had mine this am. Was definitely the best 12 week scan I have ever had. Nuchal all fine although have to wait for definite confirmation from bloods - it took them 5 tries and three people to get blood out of me and am now horribly bruised on both arms - thank God its winter! Baby was wiggling around, stretching etc - still find it so scary that something so small can be so utterly cool. Got good photos - four for £6. Have had dates changed by three days so now due 24th May but will still be cut out a week before as I would have been before because Consultant only operates on Thursdays! So baby will arrive middle of May! Am feeling rather lovely and happy now which makes a change.

I asked the woman what the black hole was in the baby's head, thinking that there was a problem, only to be told that it was infact its mid region and that was its stomach!! Nice - well done me!

Think I saw a willie which is no surprise as I already have three of that make, so stands to reason I will have another one. As long as its healthy I don't mind! At least I know what I am doing. I asked her to make an educated guess and she said she would but then said that she couldn't tell as it could be either - load of rubbish - she didn't want to disappoint me! Not disappointed, much easier having four boys frankly! Still don't know for sure, but it certainly looked like one to me!

Good luck to others. x
