crackers it'll be my first time to NY and first time to the States as well Smile we have a friend's wedding to go to on Friday...really excited but just hoping the flight and time difference don't kill me off with the current exhaustion and sickness!

CrackersandCheese · 31/10/2011 13:08

Right, ok. Here's my tips for your sightseeing (if you have time):

-The top of the rockefeller building has a better view than the top of the empire state, and the queues are normally shorter. You can SEE the empire state from the top of the rock and you can see central parc. Tis amazing.

  • I'm not sure if it is still open but there was a great bar in the Rockefeller that is great to sit have a non-alcoholic drink at and watch the sun set
  • You can get a good view of the Statue of Liberty from the free Staten Island ferry. Although, if you have time, visiting Liberty Island and the Ellis Island museum is great.
  • Shopping in Soho area is much nicer than mid-town Macy's etc.
  • Go to Time Square at night and catch a show if you can.
  • If you like TK Maxx, try Century 21 at Ground Zero. I got some great buys from there but you have to be prepared to dig
  • The sex and the city tour is great. If not and you just want to wander down Carrie's street, it's Perry St.
  • We stumbled upon this little museum completely by accident, but loved it's charm and history. Definitely worth a look whilst you're down near Wall St museum

PS. You should be fine with the time difference on the way out, it's normally the way back that is painful.

hippieshake · 31/10/2011 14:14

I am so jealous of you guys going/having been to New York. It's on my wishlist of places to visit. Hopefully one day soon!!

I hope you have a lovely time blue, although my the looks of things you'll need to get really wrapped up!

Does everyone kind of work in an office type environment? I wish I had a desk to sit at in my job xx

Montsti · 31/10/2011 14:58

I'm more jealous - also top of my wish list. DH is currently there on business and I could've gone but we live abroad and I would have had to have flown 11 hours to drop my son off with my parents in the UK before making the trip to NYC and couldn't face long haul flight again with my 2 year old - hell in June and we're coming to UK in December...have given DH a list of things to buy though! Hope he gets it all right!

Enjoy your trip! My husband sent me photos of the snow in Central Park!

BlueCrane · 31/10/2011 17:32

Thanks for the tips crackers we haven't got stacks of time for sightseeing due to pre-wedding meal on Thursday and the wedding itself on Friday but still looking forward to it! We are planning to do the Rockerfeller centre rather than ESB as had heard views and queues better. monsti I have my shopping list prepped!! mainly hope I feel better than I have today though as had to come home at lunch due to stinking headache and have spent the afternoon asleep on the sofa Blush

GingerLemonTea · 31/10/2011 17:51

Crackers - I've not got scan date either, but am only 9+5. MW said it would be between 11and half to 13 and half weeks. Booking appt was only on Wed so she will just have sent off request.

Hippie - I have a very active job, which sometimes keeps my mind off nausea, but v tired!

slightlyfluffy · 31/10/2011 19:57

Hello All!

Going to join in the fun here as now 12w as of today and EDD is 14th May 2012.

Had the pleasure of telling my new boss (& company) the 2nd week after starting when only 8w as wanted to be upfront, it was scary but they have been great about it as it was a bit of a shock to us all.

Have a DS of almost 3yrs already and am as sick and nauseous and tired to the point of being horizontal again....oh well :)

I went to the doctor as soon as I found out and then had my booking appt, first scan is next week and DH has even taken the day off to come with me :)

Hugs and congrats to all! xx

dobbybono · 01/11/2011 08:58

hello ladies, how are you all feeling?glad the ms is easing off a little for some of you.
i have just started having massive panicky moments,i keep waking up at 3am with nightmares and not being able to get back to sleep.

i keep going over the same things in my head, over and over again-drop baby off at child minder, drop dd off at breakfast club, 1 hour walk to work.can i make it to work on time? back again on a night, one hour walk home, what if it snows? will i cope with little money and no sleep?

my boss is going to go ballistic when i tell him i am pregnant, his wife will not speak to me for the next 7 months! sorry i sound really selfish but i feel i could explode with stress at the moment.
please telll me it's just my hormones!

Wommer · 01/11/2011 09:07

Hi dobby,
I'm planning on telling work next week - got scan on Monday so probably on Tuesday - am not looking forward to it as they're a bunch of male chauvinist pigs. However you do have all of the rights on this one - your boss will just have to suck it up...
Are they close friends of yours? Would you normally talk to his wife alot? Maybe she'll be ok and see it from your side?
When are you planning on telling them?

On the dreams side of things I've been having some crackers - they seem to all be related to people breaking into my house.... Lovely!Hmm
Xxxx

dobbybono · 01/11/2011 09:28

thanks womer for the advice, good luck with work, i hope it goes ok for you. The boss' wife is also director, she's a right bitch, she has told me not to have a summer baby again as it interferes with her holidays (she told me this 8 years ago after my 1st daughter) and that anyone getting pregnant is selfish and is not thinking of the business!
i am planning to tell him when he is on his own which can be a bit random ,otherwise it will be a phone call. i am expecting my scan letter any day now so it will prob be in the next few days.arrrgh!!

Wommer · 01/11/2011 13:40

Hey dobby she sounds like a nightmare! If anything like that gets said this time make sure you note down/save emails etc. Pretty certain they are NOT allowed to say stuff like that as it's discriminatory.
Also if anything happens in the future then it's useful to have past evidence.
Do you normally get on ok with them?

Am realising I've got it quite easy - only have dinosaurs who are going to view me as a weak and pitiable female (dispute them all having kids!). They will also be SCANDALISED that it's going to be me who works and my dh who's the stay at home parent lol Grin

Xx

dobbybono · 01/11/2011 14:30

hi womer wish i could see their faces when you tell them your husband is the stay at home parent,my husband stayed at home for the first 9 months with my first, i went back full time when she was 6 weeks old(poor fool me) this time i plan on having at least six months off so it will ruin both her 2 summer holidays and her 2 winter ones!! Grin
p.s what's your due date? xx

Wommer · 01/11/2011 18:41

dobby my edd is 22/05 and I hit 11 weeks today Grin
This is our 1st and the plan is that I'll have 6 months off, and as I go back dh will stop working.
Several people have (reeeeaaally tactfully lol) asked me - including my mum lol - "if you go back to work, won't you miss the baby?".... well duh?! Of course i will, but if we didn't do it this way then we'd never have kids!
The guys at work though are firmly of the opinion that women belong in the home from the day they say I do, and if not then, then definitely as soon as we have a child....
I can't wait to see their faces either!
Such a shame you'll be spoiling ALL of her holiday plans for next year.... Wink
When's your dd?
Xx

BlueCrane · 02/11/2011 08:29

Morning all...just a quick post to say hello before we jet off to NYC later today. Really hoping the sickness stays at bay whilst we're away and the time difference doesn't really mess me up going or coming back but otherwise really looking forward to it and the weather looks good, despite all the recent snow havoc! Hope anyone who has a scan in the next few days that it goes well, that those with sickness manage to keep going ok and those stressing about lack of symptoms are ok too! We're all slowly getting closer to the end of the first trimester Grin yeah when hopefully we can relax a bit more!!

wommer and dobby I think telling work and working out what to do with childcare and finances can be so difficult so hope all goes well for you with those conversations!

Take care all - catch up Tuesday!

dobbybono · 02/11/2011 08:33

womer hi my edd is 25th may but i could be a little bit out. i am hoping today that my scan letter will arrive as it is 10 days since booking in apt. She was very scatty the midwife so i hope she remembered to fax it!
I think different generations don't understand how expensive we have it with high mortgages etc, it's a case of needs must with working and having children . i will count down the clock with you -29 weeks to go and counting Grin

Cewafwb · 02/11/2011 12:21

Having been feeling so amazingly fine for quite some time now, and infact, have only been hungry, which tailed off beautifully, I decided on Sunday that enough was enough and it was time to stop putting on so much weight and eat properly. I now feel like death warmed up and am so hungry i can hardly communicate with the outside world! Why now??? All I have cut out is crisps, biscuits, cakes, bread, sweets etc, so no reason why should feel rotten as frankly they don't exactly fill you up anyway. Am eating SO much still, just good food, lots of fruit etc. Cold, tired and STARVING even having just eaten. Am also first class cow to children and husband. Pretty sure they would rather I wasn't around right now. Me too. Having huge second thoughts, and thirds and fourths as to why we are going ahead with this baby. Disaster.

CrackersandCheese · 02/11/2011 13:02

Cewafwb that sounds rubbish. Are you sleeping well? Sometimes if you don't sleep so well this can make you more hungry. Ditto when being dehydrated.

All I can suggest is to do what your body is telling you- if you're hungry, eat. And maybe you don't need to be so drastic and cut out all those goodies from your diet- just cut down. It might be more mangeable.

I still haven't heard from the scan people, so I shall be phoning them up at 2pm today when they open for business.

I thought I was done with the morning sickness, but had a pretty bad day of it yesterday. Feeling much better today though and I am actually motivated to do work for a change . I'm on a lunch break!

CrackersandCheese · 02/11/2011 15:12

So I phoned the scan people and they hadn't sorted by date but did it over the phone. Thank goodness I called and got a cancellation as I think I would have missed the window for getting it done. She said they were booking up fast. I feel a bit sorry for the other women in the pile who hadn't been booked yet either.

So, anyway, here's an updated list with my scan date on it.

I'm eagerly cheaking the post everyday waiting for a scan date and appointment with the consultant. It's so annoying cause I have to arrange child care 4 my 2 year old DS. I'm 10 weeks now so when did everyone else recieve there date??

I av noticed my symptoms subsiding but hearing everyone else saying it around 10 weeks is making me feel reassured! Still absolutely shattered though and seem to be having headaches.

Hello everyone!! I'm enjoying reading that all of your symptoms have started to ease slightly at 10 weeks. I hit that mark on Friday and I can't wait! I'm making an effort this week to try and eat proper meals, although I've developed a thing for all things pickled..onions,gherkins..cheese and pickle sandwiches. I'm going to turn into a pickle. I'm so excited that you all have your scans!!!

xx

dobbybono · 03/11/2011 08:32

hi Cewafwb sorry you're feeling so rubbish,i feel panic stricken too (me on how i will cope),i'm sure everything will be alright in the end. i think when our hormones settle down a bit we will feel a bit better, hope you're ok today x

alwaysanauntie · 03/11/2011 09:37

Good luck with scans everyone, iowmum88 I'd call if you're concerned, seems to be the way to get things done!

Wommer how's the coccyx? My lower back has been really sore and if i stand up too quickly my stomach muscles feel like they're being torn apart, could be due to hormones relaxing the ligaments etc? Whatever it is I hope it doesn't last!

I've also been eating like a horse this week, and tummy seems to have expanded rapidly, so am going for fruit, vegetable soup and salad only today (except peanut butter and nutella sandwich for breakfast and tunnock's tea cake for afternoon treat...) :)

CrackersandCheese · 03/11/2011 10:59

Today is one of those days when I shall feel sorry for myself all day. I have barely slept and just feel tired and yucky. I've not gone into work and feel guilty. I shouldn't do, because I genuinely feel crap and would be no use to anyone. Does anyone else have a guilt trip when they're off poorly? How much time have any of you taken off?

:(

QueSeraSera24 · 03/11/2011 12:01

Hi ladies,

I'm in major need of some reassurance today. Spent a few hours in A&E last night after having a bleed. Completely fell apart and my boss (who i live with and is more like my mum) had to come home and peel me out from under the covers. I was convinced i had lost the baby, especially after having a MC with my last pregnancy.

I wasn't a massive bleed but it was bright red and there were two small dark red clots, the biggest being no bigger than my thumb nail. I'm nearly 11 weeks and the only hope i have is that a MC at this stage would be much bigger right?

The doctor said it's a good sign that it had stopped and i didn't have any abdominal pain. I had had very low pain the night before but i put it down to being gas because i've had major problems with constipation.

They've referred me to the early pregnancy unit and i have an emergency scan tomorrow morning.

Does anyone have any experience of this or any advice? I'm off work today but all i can do it sit here in DPs bed and wait for him to come home. I'm gonna go mad till i know one way or another tomorrow.
