GingerLemonTea · 26/10/2011 22:23

Hmmm, she told me I've to avoid the passive smokers. Well they congrgate outside the entrance and have a sneaky cig in the loos. Will just need to hold my breath!
She said any meat has to be well cooked and not allowed stilton or natural yoghurt?!
Thought as much re the cheese, but some messages on MN suggest meat ok as long as heated through and cooked on outside, like a medium steak.
Anyway will just avoid.

SirCharles · 26/10/2011 23:38

Wow girls lots of false info from the MWs I see! The nhs has a website telling you what food you can eat. www.nhs.uk/Planners/pregnancycareplanner/pages/Carewithfood.aspx

Gingerlemontea I am pretty sure it says Stilton & natural yoghurt are fine. So is rare beef steak, so long as the outside is cooked properly, but burgers must be well cooked. I have ordered rare-medium rare steak recently. Was gutted when stomach would only let me eat half :(
You can even eat sushi from most uk outlets - not that I fancy my normal favourite lunch choice!! Weird how tastes change. & I have only had mild queasiness, no full on MS like some of you....

BTW my GP said a glass of wine a couple of nights a week with dinner is fine. In fact he asked me who I would rather be the child of - someone who went teetotal or someone who had the odd glass. Very relaxed he was. Thank goodness!!! So GingerLT your couple of beers over the last few weeks should be fine. Ignore the nasty MW who is clearly trying to assert her authority over you and make you worry. Actually my MIl who is a fertility specialist said that drs only want to weed out those who are drinking 1/2 bottle of wine or more every night from before BFP & throughout the next 40 weeks. For the rest of us just being sensible is fine unless you have had previous problems or MCs.

satyricon - I think boys are welcome on here but you might be more comfortable on the boys forum on here. I understand it can get pretty yucky on here!!

Apologies to any RL MWs on here but they are rarely the brightest tools in the box. Are they? Maybe it was just me but my booking in yesterday was a right farce. 1 & 1/2 hours. Yes 90 minutes. To fill in a form I could have done in 15 minutes myself, for her to tell me stuff I already knew from the dr or the NHS website or from MN (thx girls!) & for her to assume I was married to a white man. She filled in my ethnic origins form without referring to me or asking if it was correct!! Ok so my DH has a very Celtic name & is British but REALLY? Should a black MW really just make the assumption my DH is white? I was most annoyed. Just as well he is white or the next time they might get a shock!

There were also 3 of them in the room. 1 was late. 1 was a student too scared to ask me any questions so would ask the MW as if I was not there. And the MW contradicted my GP, did not intro herself & contradicted the NHS website re safe foods to eat/not eat. Very confusing.

She did not tell me until an hour in that she was only covering the usual MW so would not be there next time & that she was called cathy not Claire. She also kept taking phonecalls for the whole 90 mins! Incl whilst taking bloood! Wtf. How rude. She only mentioned late on that she was on call so had to take the call. Wtf. What a joke. Wasted my time.

Useful points: giving me my book, taking blood, doing wee test. She did mention perineum massage but only as there was a page on it but said nothing more. So just scared me as have not had time to read that page yet.

Domestic violence is clearly on a government checklist but tbh she did not establish any trust (for all reasons above) so even if I was suffering I would not have confided in her. There were far too many people in the room & she was on the phone for half the time. Grrrrrrr. I feel sorry for anyone else who saw her. Some would not get the care they need......

On a lighter note I am now 10 weeks so 2 weeks til first scan & (hopefully) able to share our secret with our friends & family! Roll on second trimester.

Good luck girls.

alwaysanauntie · 27/10/2011 08:57

Ginger don't worry about the beers, I had a massive night out for a leaving do when I was about 4 weeks including multiple flaming sambucas (resulted in evil hangover and having to leave work 2 hours early as I kept being sick due to booze not ms!) My mw said not to worry about a small drink every day, so 2 in 2 months isn't going to be the end of the world. She does sound very strict tho, so maybe take things with a pinch of salt and try not to let it get to you xxx

satiricon you've been duly warned that you may find some material on this thread offensive and more detail than you ever wanted to know, but I am very impressed you're interested, my DH would run a mile from a forum like this!

satyricon · 27/10/2011 11:59

Well, I'll keep a quiet eye on it if no one minds. If I get offended (I NEVER get offended, except possibly by Bernard Manning), I can always run for the hills.

Natz03 · 27/10/2011 13:18

Hi all, bit of advice if anyone can shed any light, I saw my MW last week for my booking appointment, filled in all the usual forms etc, took bloods, she confirmed i would be under duel care and said that apart from the scan my next appointment wwouldnt be until around 16 weeks, Just had a letter through from my hospital advising me that I have a scan on the 10th Nov, then an ante natal appointment at the hospital on the 17th Nov and then another appointment with the community midwife on the 10th of december??? Sound like alot of appointments for being so early on?? Is this routine do you think?

CrackersandCheese · 27/10/2011 13:37

I'm afraid I don't know about your mysterious extra appointment Natz. I'm sure someone much wiser who has had their scan date through will shed some light.

What I do know is that my maternity jeans have arrived and I have them on now. So so comfy and they keep my tummy warm with this miserable weather. Excellent purchase.

Feeling less sick today but still quite sleepy.

MarKettle · 27/10/2011 14:23

Hi everyone, not posted in a week or so but have been trying to follow the thread. So sorry for 7lamby and CODwidow. Hope you're both getting all the support you need.

I have my scan date now, they booked me in for 7th November when I'm 11+3, so I'm hoping that I'm actually far along enough for the nuchal fold test as otherwise I'll have to go back to the hospital for another scan (not that I don't like scans, but my nearest hospital is miles away so it's a bit difficult!). I was also pleased to hear that they're only charging £3 per print, as it was much more expensive 4 years ago at the other hospital!

SirCharles you have my sympathies. My MW last time around was awful, a really rude and infuriating woman. I hardly ever come across people I can't stand, but she was one of them. Constantly answering her personal mobile phone to her daughter who was crying about her boyfriend Hmm. She was openly racist about her other patients, which made me extremely uncomfortable to say the least. After I'd given birth I asked the hospital for a different midwife to do the home visits if possible as I really didn't want her in my house!

Natz03, the extra appointment may be something to do with why you're under dual care? I know you don't usually get an appointment with a consultant until later on though. It may be worth querying it with the antenatal clinic.

Natz03 · 27/10/2011 15:39

Think i will ask them when i go for my scan I had a mini stroke (tia) after having my DS2 who is now 6, but then being breech and the hospital not noticing until i passed his foot at 42 weeks after being induced i think anyones body would go into meltdown, just seems such a random appointment as not had any tests other than reg bloods so its not that they have things to tell me as im only 10+3. oh well nevermind hope all you ladies with MS are starting to feel better im just extremely tired :( . Think maternity pants will be purchased very soon the rate im going just swollen and very uncomfortable at the moment :(

Cewafwb · 27/10/2011 16:21

i changed my name. Was Widgetwb. Was rather too obvious and was told I was being stupid! So this is now me. I doubt any of you will remember as Crackersandcheese has changed and I have no idea who she was before - stupidly! However, reasons were paramount and its done. Feel not so nice today, ds1 not happy at school and has just realised its almost the end of half term. Super. Pooped too. Natz - I reckon you just sit back and take every appointment you can get!! More the merrier i reckon!

CrackersandCheese · 27/10/2011 16:48

I was astroness [hwink].

Don't forget to update the list [hsmile].

Natz03 · 27/10/2011 17:38

Cewafwb i shall do just that hope you start to feel more human soon xx

iowmum88 · 27/10/2011 17:50

I av now gone from just being able to eat fattyish food Now even that makes me feel sick but not actually been sick. Seems only now sweet food is what I fancy! Never felt like this before it's nuts!!! I dont fancy anything and feel sick all the time!! Why aren't I being sick?? Sorry if tmi but am fed up of feeling like this!

GingerLemonTea · 27/10/2011 18:31

Was thinking about the CO being in my blood & therefore the baby's blood and it has occurred to me today that for the past 2 weeks at work there has been a bit of renovation going on. Have had to walk repeatedly through a painted area that was being sanded, with visible dust. The whole area is being painted with regular paint & also gloss. Plus some other repair work with some strong smells. This is set to continue for at least another 2 weeks. Do you think this is ok? Am I being precious?

Cewafwb · 27/10/2011 22:07

Ginger we are living on a building site and I am doing most of the painting which all needs to be sanded first! I also did this when pregnant with ds1 and ds2 - two different houses! They are both fine. You will be fine too.

Thanks for clearing that up Crackers - I remember now - thanks! Will do list - thanks for reminding me! Below.x

Hi all,

just updating the list with my edd and I thought it might be nice to add scan dates when we know them - I like seeing when people are going for their scans and look forward to hearing their news but that might just be me.

ginger just a thought on the CO, it stands for carbon monoxide and is produced when something's burnt ( I used to be a science teacher!) the only other thing to do if you're really worried is to get your boiler checked or get one of the battery operated monitors. At least that would give you peace of mind if you know it's not due to smoking? Like I said, just a thought...

BlueCrane · 28/10/2011 10:05

Morning all...I've been AWOL for a few weeks but thought I'd drop back in if that's ok? Had my early scan last week and all was ok...a little 20mm bean and visible heartbeat flashing away which was a huge relief after the MMC last time! I have a dating scan on 15th November when I'll be 12+2 (currently 9+5). Been feeling so nauseous and am another one retching lots but not actually being sick Confused so nearly brought my breakfast back up this morning but it just about stayed down, though I feel so rough I almost wish it had come back out as that might make me feel better IYSWIM! I have already had to buy some mat jeans and work trousers as am either showing already or just very bloated! Have actually lost a couple of pounds with feeling so sick though so it's not just weight gain! My MW was lovely at my booking app last week though unfortunately she won't be my regular one as the one attached to my surgery is on mat leave so all the others are covering so I could have a different one each appointment, oh well! I'll add myself back to the stats:

I think always has a good suggestion regarding boiler there. Definitely worth a check for peace of mind.

I see we also have a nicely updated list...which also makes me happy. AND it has scan dates on too. Love that. I don't have mine yet but going off everyone's dates I'm expecting it to be around 15th to 17th November.

Hello blue tis me astro but with a name change. So pleased that you go to see your little been. I feel for you with the morning sickness. I have had the same too. I thought it had eased off a little but silly me, I have now realised it likes to hit me in waves.

I really should eat something but I don't know what I want. What do I want people?!?

I will actually turn into a cracker if I have anymore crackers and cheese.

BlueCrane · 28/10/2011 14:30

Ah crackers now I understand your new name Wink I could choose one similar as crackers and cheese are a definite yes at the moment Smile the MS does come in waves though as you say...some days I do feel better than others but mostly I feel rough particularly in the evenings which means DH gets the brunt of my bad mood and frustration that goes with it!! Another thing I have found ok is toast and marmite, but it needs to be nice bread...none of what I call 'cardboard' bread (the ready sliced stuff) has to be a nice cut yourself type loaf Blush no idea why I'm suddenly fussy about bread but there it is!!

We're off to New York for a wedding next wednesday so wondering how I'm going to cope with the flight(s) and trip full stop with feeling sooo tired and sick Hmm

iow the constant nausea is so very draining, I do sympathise! Hopefully you've only got another 3 weeks to go and then it will start to ease...that's what I keep telling myself!!

Right...ought to get back to work and try not to fall asleep

CrackersandCheese · 28/10/2011 15:17

blue it's funny you should say marmite on toast, because that is exactly what I had when I finished that last post [hgrin].

Oh and chicken soup for lunch. Did you know that Heinz chicken soup only has 3% chicken in it?? It's actually a good think as I normally only eat 'happy' chickens and I doubt my 70p tin of soup had any real food in it anyway.

Anyway, back to work. Only one more hour to pull through and then I can escape to my freedom!

horseynewmum · 28/10/2011 17:50

I'm preg with my first and its due 24th may. Strange thing was I was due 24th May and I arrived 31st may [hhmm] could it happen a second time [hconfused]

Little9 · 28/10/2011 18:57

Had scan today. Unfortunately, I miscarried quite early on. Oh well, just not meant to be. Good luck, ladies. Hope all goes well for the rest of you, x

CrackersandCheese · 28/10/2011 19:14

I'm really sorry to hear that little9. Take care of yourself.x
