Hello all,
I'm new to this, but have been secretly reading your posts for a few weeks now. Overjoyed with being pregnant with my first (but also stepmum to a six year old). All planned and very excited. By my count I'm 8w+5. However, it's the queries that have cropped up regarding early scans that have made me sign up and get talking. I paid for an early scan last night with Babybond - ultrasound direct. Having know about my pregnancy for a month or so, I simply couldn't find the patience to wait until 12 weeks. Yes it's pricy at £100 but the reassurance and peace of mind has proved to be priceless. The Jelly bean I'm carrying is 10mm and has a heart rate at 149bpm. Apparently i'm 7w and 2 days and potentially due 21st May. My booking in appt is next week.
I hope this helps those who have queries with the early scans.
So, is there enough room on your bus for me? I hope so.
Congrats to all x

AstroNess · 05/10/2011 14:48

blue I'm glad to see I'm not the only one starring into space at my desk. I don't know how I'm going to carry on over the next few weeks if this exhaustion continues!

miss welcome to the bus and congratulations. That must have been so reassuring to see the little bean.

BlueCrane · 05/10/2011 15:15

missmarms Grin at your scan - that's great!! I have an early (8 week) scan in a couple of weeks...current EDD is 31st May which I think should be fairly accurate +/- a couple of days as my cycle may have been 30 days.

Sooooo tired...keep yawning...now slightly regretting my Pret soup as have heartburn...yeah...the joys of a small bean making itself known!!

lucy23110 · 05/10/2011 16:40

Hi all. I've been on a course today and again tomorrow (which is good as a distraction re Friday) but am so struggling to stay alert as so tired come 2 o'clock, the lady taking it must have thought I was so rude. Home how and DD is having tea with Nanny and Grandad so I have a couple of hours to myself. Sitting in pj's watching TV, lovely. Hope you have all had a good day and not feeling to yukky. L x

hippieshake · 05/10/2011 17:12

I'm seriously contemplating one of the early scans now. I'm based in Warrington and I've found a place that does them for £78. It'd be very reassuring, although I have no idea how far gone I am at all. It's been 7 weeks exactly since the first day of my last period, however this is the first time I've ovulated in a year and I have no idea when it was in my cycle. I reckon I could be between 5-7 weeks.

I'm hoping in my Booking In on Friday the MW has a feel of my tummy, the pains are really starting to worry me now.

Missmarms Congratulations!! I'm so happy that your little one is thriving! xx

Tercear · 05/10/2011 17:52

Hi there,

First post on this board and first post on mumsnet so nice to meet you all :)

I'm 28 and currently 7 + 2 (is that how you do it?) with my first :D I'm due on the 28th May roughly and partner and I are over the moon!

Been a bit freaked out with some of the physical effects, cramping, exhaustion, indigestion etc but still enjoying it. Got a booking in appointment in 2 weeks so looking forward to seeing what that involves.

Look forward to speaking to you all again soon!

WidgetWB · 05/10/2011 19:27

Welcome Tercear, congratulations. I am also due on 27th May and am 6+3, this date thing is so different for everyone I think?!

I hope you are surviving your first twelve weeks, they take forever, but go faster afterwards.

Had doc app today and she knows me well. She reckons once I see a heart beat on Friday - assuming I do - then I will have to go ahead, but on the other side, if I do see one and don't feel anything still, then its best to go the other way, or something like that. Will see. Why is it when you are looking forward to something it takes FOREVER to arrive!!!

Am feeling fine oddly, a bit glazy every now and then, and starving at all times even when having eaten, but otherwise ok. Feel cold a lot too - someone else said that - I concur - its not nice - but is pregnancy!

Anyone else finding homework utterly utterly stressful and shouting at them when being stupid? So mean, so unfair. Must stop it.

On own tonight and have no dinner - spells disaster for eating crap!

BlueCrane · 05/10/2011 19:46

Evening all...can't keep my eyes open, think I'll be in bed v v soon!

Welcome tercear I'm due on 31st May and now 6+1...

widget it may have been me saying about being cold...have been all day...and after all food making me feel sick I've now had bouts of feeling sooo sick today, alleviated temporarily by eating, but then hungry again straight afterwards! Just feel bad for DH who is going to have to be doing a load of stuff that I would normally do but can't as I'm too tired...

And so the days continue to pass at snails pace...still 2 weeks to scan time...

Alisonjayjay · 05/10/2011 21:14

I am interested in how a lot of you are able to get early scans on the NHS. What would be the reason for an early scan? I am now 6+3 weeks and it seems like such a long wait till 12 weeks. I didn't have a dating scan with my first pregnancy as I was living in Greece at the time and only had the 20 week anomaly scan. I can't remember being so worried in the first few weeks of my first pregnancy and this time around I am panicking. No reason why, except I have wanted a second baby for so long and I guess its just natural to worry when you want something so much. I have been to the doctor and I have registered with the midwives but I am yet to hear anything about a booking appointment. I'm starting to wonder if they've forgotten about me! When are the booking appointments usually? I assumed I would hear from them quite quickly but nothing as yet. The receptionist at the doctors surgery told me the dating scan is on or around week 12. Any advice on when everyone else has had booking appointments and reasons for early scans?

WidgetWB · 06/10/2011 07:17

Had an ectopic so high chance of having another one Alisonjayjay. You will find that if people are having early scans for free its because they have had previous complications. If not then you have to pay for them. You will get a booking appointment around 8-12 weeks and a scan at 12 weeks and again at 20.

BlueCrane · 06/10/2011 09:54

Morning alison I had a 'silent/missed' miscarriage earlier in the year which wasn't found until my 12w scan so have been given the opportunity of a scan at 8 weeks this time to check everything is progressing as it should. I remember the wait to 12w being soooo long last time.

I was asleep by 9:15pm last night...tonight I have a girls meal out to go to which won't finish until 11ish which could be interesting! I'm going with my friend who is about 25weeks pregnant (she knows I am pregnant) so hoping our energy levels are similar and she doesn't mind if I have to leave a bit early!!

MarKettle · 06/10/2011 12:23

Hello everyone!

I think I have reverse morning sickness. I wake up feeling great - slowly get more tired and nauseous throughout the day, go to bed really early only to wake up around 11pm needing to throw up!

Saw my GP yesterday for a non-pregnancy related appointment, and she was a bit Hmm that I didn't have a date for booking in with the midwife, so she arranged an appointment for me herself for Monday afternoon.
Bit worried as I will have to take DS (3.7) with me and we wanted to leave it as late as possible to tell him, don't know how much of it he will take in if he has a colouring book or whatever to distract him though.

Have in-laws visiting this weekend and two family birthday parties the weekend after. I think we'll have to tell some people as it's going to be pretty obvious what's wrong if I cant face certain foods or I'm being sick all night!

Little9 · 06/10/2011 18:24

Hello. Have mainly been doing a lot of sleeping recently. Have felt cold all day today. Have had major sore boobs for the last week, but nothing really to report other than that. Roll on 3 weeks tomorrow when I have my 12 week scan!

sharond101 · 06/10/2011 19:26

I am new here (please be nice) and got my BFP after a miscarriage last year, 5 failed clomid cycles and 1 successful cycle of IUI. Due date 26th May. Had a scan on MOnday and there were two sacs although only one had any sign of being occupied.

Enfyshedd · 06/10/2011 20:10

Well had a call from my midwife today and I'm having my booking in this Sunday - surprised at the weekend service! Also been given the date for my first scan, so she seems to be on the ball already - 4 1/2 weeks to go, but DP won't be able to come because it's at 3pm and he needs to pick DSS2 from school.

BTW, hi sharond101 - welcome & fingers crossed for you.

alwaysanauntie · 07/10/2011 07:25

Fingers crossed for you sharond101, good luck ladies with scans today, hope all goes well. I was freezing yesterday too, i think it was just the crappy weather though! Glad it's the weekend, but have college all day sat and sun so am relying on DH to be a good housewife!

lucy23110 · 07/10/2011 10:54

Hi all. Good news to report, there was a heart beat Grin. They have put my date back so I thought I was 6+2 but now I'm 5+4 ( makes a June baby but hopefully you don't mind me staying around?). I had to have and internal as I was earlier than I thought, but was worth it when I saw the heart beat. Hope everyone else is ok and have a good weekend. L x

MarKettle · 07/10/2011 11:59

Great news, Lucy!

I'm having a bit of a panic today. DS came home from nursery with a rash and a cold, Doctor diagnosed Fifth Disease today. He's feeling alright, not too poorly or anything but GP did say that if I become infected it dramatically increases the risk of miscarriage as I'm only in the first trimester. Just feeling a bit sorry for myself now :(

Rugbylovingmum · 07/10/2011 14:04

Oh no Markettle, how stressful. Is there nothing the GP can do? Is fifth disease slapped cheek? I think that lots of people have antibodies to that even if they aren't aware of having had the infection - fingers crossed you are already immune.

Lucy - hurray for a hb and of course you should stay here. DD was very late so I could well end up with a June baby too even if my EDD stays the same.

It seems ages until my booking in appt and getting a date for my scan. I see the midwife on the 18th and hopefully I'll get a scan date through soon after that. I haven't actually been sick yet but I'm another one feeling nauseous all day and exhausted by lunchtime. I def wasn't this ill last time Sad. I keep telling myself all these symptoms are a good sign everything is going well but I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself really Blush.

WidgetWB · 07/10/2011 16:41

Had thorough scan, inside and out! No ectopic or not that she could see anyway - they are always keen to point out it is sometimes missable! Apparently I should have gone down in medical journals for my last attempt - ectopic and a miscarriage - ie - one in each place - almost unheard of! Well done me - at least I do these things properly!

So scan was great, baby (fish finger - ds3 was with me! and we had fish fingers for lunch so we had to see how many we could see - luckily only one!!) in the right place with heart beating happily away. I think I am 99% there, waiting on dh who is playing golf all day and won't be back sober! Will discuss over the weekend, but I think we are both pretty much on the same page - have screwed everything up but can't get rid and will be amazing! Just need to get head around it really properly and enjoy!

Oddly spent the last couple of days thinking it wasn't going to be there and it was going to be an ectopic or mmc and found I really didn't like that thought and would be sad if the option was taken away from me, so that has to be a good sign no?

Oh why is life so full of decisions, and hugely important ones too!

lucy23110 · 07/10/2011 17:26

Fab news widget. It is fab to see a heart beat isn't? I had also convinced myself that there going to be nothing there to try and prepare myself. fingers crossed all stays well. L x

MarKettle · 07/10/2011 17:40

That's great news, Widget. I know you've had a confusing few weeks, but it sounds like it's all coming together for you now.

Rugbylovingmum, it is slapped cheek syndrome. My Mum remembers my little brother having it but not me. So I was thinking that perhaps I was immune even back then.
Sorry to hear you're having a rough time with the symptoms. I always think of all the horrible bits when people say "Pregnancy isn't an illness!" and think Hmm

lucy23110 · 07/10/2011 19:25

Markettle, it's so much harder 2nd time (even more so with 3 or 4) as first time, well I did, wrapped myself in cotton wool, didn't go to friends house if there kids had chicken pox etc at the school (their kids hadn't even got anything) now we have no choice, do we? Hope all goes well and DS feels better soon. L x

hippieshake · 07/10/2011 20:54

Lucy and Widget good news. I'm so happy for you both!! I was really hoping that you'd both get the news you wanted.

I went for my booking in today. The MW said my pains are probably because I'm quite toned so my ligaments are stretching, and also my hormones are playing havoc on my PCOS.

They only do dating scans at around 14 weeks here, and I can't wait that long. I'm booking in for a private one in two weeks time because I should be around 10 weeks then.

How is everyone this evening? xx

Little9 · 07/10/2011 22:12

Can't believe how sore and heavy my boobs are. Making me feel slightly sick! Think I'm going to need a trolley to wheel 'em around at this rate! :(
