Anyone due May 04?

Just found out I'm pregnant with an EDD on May 7th, so though I'ld kick off this thread. I have a DS who was two last week. I am suprised to find myself having very mixed emotions - excitement at the thought of a sibling for DS, but horror at the thought of the pregancy, birth and first few months. Anyone else just found out they're pregnant?

Azure, really hoping that you are coping OK. It's been kind of quiet around here for a few days. Not sure if thats because of the w/e or that like me, people are finding it hard to write about themselves when you have suffered such an awful loss.

Hope all other girls are OK. Has anyone reached 12 wks yet? I did on sunday. Still dont feel i can breathe a sigh of relief just yet though. Having horrid dreams. Having a nuchal scan on Fri. Bit worried but will be nice to see babs once again. Fingers crossed.

Egypt · 03/11/2003 17:16

Linnet, forgot to add message for you, but hope you are feeling much better about things. Good luck ....are you having a further scan?

prufrock · 03/11/2003 17:46

It does seem a bit awful to come on here and moan about how terrible I feel being pregnant when other people are having "real" problems. I had been feeling very sorry for myself, but I know I would rather feel this crap for every day of the next 28 weeks than go through what Azure and Linnet have had to cope with.
I've also now passed 12 weeks - last time that seemed such a milestone, but I don't think I'm going to really relax until my scan next Friday.
I've started itching properly now as well - the OC is back with a vengeance. I had to have 9 tubes of blood taken at my midwifes appointment last week, and need monthly LFT's and Bile Acids. And I hate needles

Snips · 03/11/2003 19:51

I had my scan this morning (i'm 10 weeks). Thankfully all seemed ok. Had my booking in appointment too.It was great seeing the little one moving about, though it was so tiny. Still will be more comfortable when I get to 12 weeks. I don't have another appointment with hospital or GP until 20 weeks now. Will be a bit nerve-wracking until I can feel the baby move. The worrying never stops does it??!!

Prufrock-I had really severe itching in my last pregnancy. It used to drive me to tears on a regular basis. It seems to have started again, but was not diagnosed as anything last time. I had blood tests to check if it was a liver problem, but it wasn't. What is OC?

Snips · 03/11/2003 20:39

Prufrock

Just read a thread on OC with your input.

Linnet · 03/11/2003 21:53

Snips, I'm so glad to hear that your scan went well.

Thank you all for keeping your fingers crossed for me.

I'm now 13 weeks. I'm going to the hospital on Thursday for my booking appointment with the midwife, Consultant said to keep that appointment. On the 13th we are going in for another scan as I'll be 14 weeks by then. The reason for this extra scan is because the Dr seems to think that there might be something wrong with the cord, he says it looks like there are some intestines/bowels or something outside of the body when it should all be inside by now. So we're having the scan then as the baby will be bigger and they will be able to see more. He also mentioned that this might be something to do with chromosomes, but we'll see.

I'm having the amnio done the following week when I'll be 15 weeks. To check for chromosome abnormalitites.

I'm clinging to the fact that the 2 dr's who I saw last Thursday told me that if that had been my first scan when I was 12 weeks they wouldn't have mentioned the fluid level as it was way below the 3.5mm cut off point. I asked them about the cord/bowel situation and they said that it didn't look to bad from what they could see but because the baby was still to small to see it properly I should have the extra scan at 14 weeks.

I'll keep you all posted though.
Hope everyone is doing ok. Sorry to hear that you suffer from OC Prufrock a friend of mine suffered with that when she had her twins 18 years ago.

Snips · 04/11/2003 11:39

Had a bit of a nightmare yesterday late evening. Was really pleased about the scan , but then had some bleeding in the evening. This is a bit graphic, but it was the usual jelly like discharge, but with bright red blood in it. Have had nothing since so keeping my fingers crossed. Anyone had any experience of anything like this? As I had no bleeding in my first pregnancy and none so far in this, it is a bit worrying.

Bozza · 04/11/2003 13:44

Sorry Snips - obviously worrying for you but unfortunately I've no idea what it might mean. Maybe if you posted on a more general thread somebody could help - not sure how many people read these month by month ones.

I have a query of my own. Was 12 weeks on Sun but have had no notification of booking in appt or scan. When should I start chasing this?

GeorginaA · 04/11/2003 15:27

I'd chase it now Bozza. I was told at my booking in appt that there are a few diagnostic tests that have to be done early on (such as the spina bifida test at 16 weeks, etc) so it's ridiculous you haven't even had a booking in appt yet!

Although saying that, my scan appt isn't until 14 weeks which is a pain because I'm supposed to have an official "due date" before I can sign up for the antenatal yoga class I want to go to

Snips · 04/11/2003 15:59

Bozza

I called the hospital directly as I did not receive an appointment, and apparently they sent one in the post but because of the strikes I did not get it.

Also, the first time I called the hospital, they said they had nothing from my GP, so that prompted me to call my GP and ask them to fax through whatever they had sent in the 1st place.

Rhea · 04/11/2003 16:55

Hi, I've been looking for Linnet on Mumsnet following her post on the Nuchal Fold Scan thread and wanted to know the outcome of her scan. I'm so glad that your nuchal measurement has decreased so much, and I do hope the next scan shows no problem with the babies cord.
I had a very bad nuchal scan 2 weeks ago with a measurement of 8mm. Its now reduced to 4.5mm and I'm 13 weeks along (and so far early results from a CVS don't show any chromosome disorders) but I thought I would let you know about an excellent website which details some of the problems that can be spotted on an early scan. It has a section on abdominal wall defects which you might find useful Linnet. \linkwww.harris-birthright.org{}

I hope my follow up scans show that nothing is seriously wrong with this little one inside me (although I've been given only a 30% of things being okay), as I too have a due date at the beginning of May. It would be nice to follow you guys as my pregnancy progresses!

Rhea

Rhea · 04/11/2003 16:59

Sorry everyone I obviously haven't figured out how to create a link to a web site!
Its - www.harris-birthright.org - (I won't embarass myself by trying again!)

Bozza · 04/11/2003 17:02

Rhea I'm sorry to hear how things have gone for you and hopefully your info will be of use to Linnet.

Snips I'm not aware of any postal strike in our area and definitely the hospital have been informed because I received the standard info pack (like I got last time). Think I will chase though so thanks guys for pushing me because Georgina's point about the tests fairly important.

Linnet · 04/11/2003 20:42

Rhea, thank you so much for giving me that link. I meant to come back to the nuchal fold thread to let you know what had happened with my scan and CVS. Had a bit of a hectic weekend.
I'm glad to hear that your fluid level has dropped as well and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hopefully we'll both have a happy outcome.
I'll take a look at the link later on when I've got a bit more time.

libb · 04/11/2003 21:14

Hello, I haven't been around recently but it was really good to catch up and read about how everyone is getting on. I was 13 weeks on Saturday and my first proper appointment with the midwife is this Thursday - this is to arrange a scan etc. When will this really start happening?!

I know this sounds really odd because I don't know what to expect as this my first time but does anyone else feel like they don't actually feel pregnant, I've had nothing to complain about other than the obvious early signs (during weeks 6-10 approx.). However, in the last 2-3 weeks I have been feeling the same as before I was expecting and can't help feeling a bit worried . . . my apologies to those who may be suffering! I guess I am just being daft, I can't wait for appointments to start happening as I feel a bit of a fraud. Feel free to tell me I am being silly . . . .

Bozza · 05/11/2003 13:42

Libb I was like that last time at this stage. Had early booking-in and scan so that was behind me and started feeling fine. This time still a little sick and totally exhausted. Quite disappointed that I don't seem to be getting my life back yet.

vivat · 05/11/2003 15:19

Libb, I feel a bit like that too and was 13 weeks on Sat too. I'm not feeling as dog tired as I was, and haven't put any weight on (not something I would usually be concerned about......). Boobs are still a bit sore though, and no period, so guess I must be pregnant ! My booking in appointment is next week (on ds's third birthday), so hopefully I'll be able to see something then (assuming I have a scan, the letter only says I may do). I did have a bit of morning sickness, but thankfully that appears to have gone. I guess we all have to find something to worry about don't we !

Egypt · 05/11/2003 20:23

Hi all. I am 13 wks on sunday. thought i was starting to feel less tired last week, but now i am knackered again and i have got terrible terrible headaches. i am sure it is my sinuses as i have had blocked nose since getting pg. midwife says headaches are common and it is my hormones, but they start at about 10am and last until bedtime! Is anyone else the same? I'm sure it cant be good for the baby feeling like this the whole time. I take paracetamol and one of those vicks stick things and olbas oil, but would kill for a proper nasal spray.! no thats the wrong turn of phrase!

libb · 05/11/2003 20:40

I had headaches too but they seem to have calmed down recently - just the odd ache and the ones my DP triggers with his flipping football . . .

I don't seem to have any signs at all but my appetite has gone AWOL recently even when I feel hungry - very naughty. Although I have to admit that I am still not brave enough to sleep without my over shoulder boulder holders (as charmingly called at school!)

Egypt, I hope you can find some answers to your headaches - they are no fun by any means.

I will be too late for the nuchal scan as my first appointment with the midwife is tomorrow (Thursday - when it will be 13 weeks and 5 days) so I hope to get in really soon after that with a scan!

libb · 05/11/2003 20:43

Vivat, thanks for your reassuring words too - does it sound daft to feel surprised when you hear of another person who is pregnant with exactly the same timing?

Listen to me, I may as well have newbie tattooed on me forehead!

Linnet · 06/11/2003 21:54

Hey everyone, hope you are all doing well.

I had my booking in appointment today, I'd have prefered to wait until we know the results of the tests that I'll be having but they wanted me in today so we went along.

My due date has now been moved to the 13th of May.
Midwife took all my details, then the Dr came in to talk to us. I didn't find her very helpful. she couldn't give us any statistics on my chances of there being a chromosome disorder and she didn't seem very forthcoming with info. Still I managed to ask all the questions that I wanted to so I was happy.

So, I'll be going in for another scan next Thursday and get the amnio the week after.

She told me that she wouldn't see me again unless I go overdue and gave me an appointment for 41 weeks. Also all my midwife apppointments will be with the community midwives attached to my Gp's surgery not through the hospital. It wasn't until I was on my way home that I realised that this meant that I'll not actually meet any midwives from my team until I actually go into hospital to give birth, so I'll be dealing with complete strangers, which seems really odd to me. Maybe I misunderstood so I will check but that seemed to be what she meant.

So, that is all my news for today. Just got to wait for my scan now, which is a week away as my teams day for scans/clinics is a Thursday. It seems a lifetime away but I'm hoping it will pass quickly.

Bozza · 11/11/2003 12:23

Linnet - that was absolutely the case (ie with the midwives) when I had DS even though I ended up on shared-care - which meant half community midwife and half consultant (or rather a different junior doc every time). So knew no-one during labour/birth or post-natally. Nice though in that comm. midwife follows up after the birth. But even she has changed and I have booking-in appt tomorrow with new comm. midwife. Am seriously annoyed though because no scan arranged yet. She was going to try and sort it yesterday but I haven't heard anything.

Linnet · 11/11/2003 21:31

I remember going to see my Dr last time first of all I went along every month then every two weeks then every week towards the end. Now that I've had time to think about it I don't actually remember meeting very many midwives last time either, not even the community ones, apart from once or twice. I must have met some midwives last time as I did recognise a couple of faces when I went into hospital but I'm not sure when I met them. It was a long time ago and my memory isn't what it should be nowadays, lol.

Snips · 12/11/2003 15:32

Linnet

Hope all goes well for your scan tomorrow.
