George: The only reason that I have not offered up my lemon loaf recipe is because it is a North American recipe so it never worked out for me in the UK... The ingredients are somewhat different (mostly the flour) and the measurements are all in cups (or ml) and Tablespoons and Teaspoons... Sorry.

I am feeling ill because I had a cup of coffee this morning. ARGH! Silly me. Reading about having given it up made me long for one.

I often wonder cads, this whole cup's thing - what sized cup are we talking about? - I fancy some american recipes but so far not worked out what size cup to use - would a bread maker measuring cup suffice?

still a few cakes left! made 24 on saturday night and think there is about 9 left..... ooops!

1 cup = 25 cl. or 250 ml...

It is really rather odd how North American recipes have adopted this system. I can only asume that there were no scales when people started to settle the New World...

The biggest hurdle I found was that the flour in the UK is not the same as in Canada so even though I understood the measurements required the recipes still flopped.

munz, they sell proper cup measurements.er..cups(!) in most dept stores now, have nigellas myself. all my american recipes work fine with them.

Cadmum please post the recipe as I have a few ex-pat friends over here who have the right cup sizes, so we can at least give it a go?!
