Cadmum · 27/09/2005 17:50

What an honour to have the great and powerful Cod on our thread!!! (Am still trying to get the babies in frypans image out of my head...)

JandB I love pineapple. Should it be avoided in early pg if it helps induce labour? (am 1/2 joking) I hope it brings you joy. My SIL?s midwife recommends Black Cohosh which is available in health food stores.

Sorry I wasn?t here to keep you company earlier Munz. I am also bored and avoiding house work today...

Cadmum · 27/09/2005 17:54

JandB How typical of the CO to no-show. Mighty frustrating. When is your DH supposed to be off to Afghanistan? I have a friend who is doing a Recce at the moment and will be there from mid December (like who needs Christmas in his family?) until June. Also have friends who are there on this rota. My DH was there last December as an observer. (Rather odd for him since he is now a civvi but knew a fair few of the people on duty there.)

Really hope for you that this little one is on the scene soon!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 18:27

Not sure whats happening re Afghan.... DH been told NOTHING!

Well.... jsut had a VERY spicy dinner, and will possibly give the pineapple a go once Jess is in bed - depends if i can stomach it or not.

I would avoid it for a little bit early on - tinned stuff is ok - its the fresh stuff that does the trick apparently!

So, spicy food, pineapple and sex all in one day must work - surely?!

OK! Now you sound SERIOUS!! I will pray for you that this baby is born before the week is out! Do you know how big baby is? My 3rd surprised us 3 weeks early and was just shy of 8 lbs. I was pleased that he didn?t wait much longer.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 18:35

Have no idea how big it is, but my bump is HUGE and rock hard - a lot bigger than with Jess..... im reckoning at this stage it easily weighs what jess did at birth - 6.6lbs

Sorry about the Afghanistan plan (or lack thereof...) I actually found out that DH was going to Kosovo whist having my back adjusted at the chiroprators. His batallion was named on the radio. DH denied that this was possible since he hadn?t heard anything at work. Guess what? 7 weeks later he was loaded on a plane to Kosovo. Why are the people involved usually the last to know?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 18:37

No idea hun..... its looking like they will go Jan/Feb time so we will probably find out 16th Dec as they go on xmas leave!

OP posts:
Cadmum · 27/09/2005 18:38

I haven?t had the chance to try any of the induction tactics... Hopefully your little one will be cooperative and early too.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 18:39

its not being co-operative so far!!!

Still.... plenty of time before the day is out!

OP posts:
Cadmum · 27/09/2005 18:40

Charming! I certainly don?t miss the good ol? days. But how can I talk with DH in New York and me still in Canada? In some ways it is much worse because we are in the driver?s seat but the whole thing is still botched up!

I hope your DH doesn?t have to go. (I am assumming this is what you want as well?)

Cadmum · 27/09/2005 18:41

I loved the suggestion that you tried to get DH to do a sweep. You are very brave! Can?t even imagine my DH?s reaction to such a request!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 18:44

we wouldnt mind him going really... it would do him good career wise, but the timing would be crap!

Also depends - his last Afghan tour was only 3 months - i could cope with that!

I jsut cant believe how you cope with your DH so far away

OP posts:
Cadmum · 27/09/2005 18:46

Make no mistake... I am not coping well at all.

You are braver than I for being OK with your DH being away for so long. Three months does sound acceptable though. Our guys were usually gone for 6 1/2.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 18:48

tours usually are 6 months, but we just dont know what this one will be.... the Afghan ones tend to be 3 months, as do Kosovo.... its the Iraq ones that are 6 monthers!

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 27/09/2005 19:02

sorry hijacking thread, your DP/Hs are gone for 6 months at a time is that like 6 months without a break to come home how do you cope?

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 19:21

sweetkitty.... its life for us im afraid!

THey usually get 2 weeks home in that 6 months but thats it!

They also only get 20 minutes PER WEEK on the phone and very limited internet access....

CRAP CRAP CRAP CRAP but someone has to do it!

OP posts:
Cadmum · 27/09/2005 19:29

Sweetkitty, it is very nice of you to ask. I am no longer an army wife so I don?t have to endure the long stretches of single parenthood anymore. Leave is about the same for Canadian Forces: two weeks home for a 6 month tour. Very limited access to phones or internet as well.

This is not meant to sound in the least bit patronising but
I am always amazed how little the general public knows about what the armed forces do in an average year. I was always being asked by friends and family (who knew nothing about these deployments until I married DH) how it was possible that they are so seldom home. It is not an easy lifestyle.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 19:32

Cadmum - well said hun.... its the worst lifestyle ever, but a spouse knows what they are getting themselves in for when they sign the marriage papers!

My husband goes to work at 7.30 in the morning, im lucky if he is home by 7.30 at night and this is usually 6 days a week - time off is limited to as and when the ARMY say so - currently 2 weeks easter, 3 weeks summer, 2 weeks xmas.... not ideal but its what he gets.

OP posts:
Cadmum · 27/09/2005 19:41

JandB: I got so tired of hearing that if the Army wanted DH to have a wife they would have issued him one but it is almost true. We have so many friends who are divorced because their marriages couldn?t handle the strain of the long and frequent (in the case of Canadian Forces) deployments.

I could NEVER do it again. I found it especially cruel that I was miles away from my family and friends as well as DH. Rather ironic that I am in my current situation... IMHO it is harder for the children that DH comes home once every 3 or 4 weeks for 3 days. It is a bizarre form of torture as well.
