there is no guarentee BF will work, but with the right support you should be fine.

Expressing usually comes after established BFing - i never got to that stage!

i would agree with jabm if you have good support and the will power it owuld work. I just didnt have either

munz · 14/10/2005 19:25

honney - not helping here! first time mum! lol - don't tell me my freezer's gonna be over run with milk! lol. (althou I suppose could u express it and pour it away if u have too much in one day?/in the freezer/do u just keep it?) - god so many questions - and if it wasn't for u lot - our midwife is rather vague.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 19:25

Gosh! I sound like i knit my own yogurt compared to you lot and i am far from a crunchy granola girl.

I cannot imagine the nightmare of having to sterilise bottles or get up in the night to feed. I just roll over and offer the boob.

munz · 14/10/2005 19:26

lol - ah cads now u're talking my language! althou wasn't there a case in the north somewhere where a mum actually killed two of her children by lieing on top of them when feeding or soemthing or other?

Nemo666 · 14/10/2005 19:26

i dont know if because my boobs were big they held more milk, or because adam fed so often i had lots there but i had to express for my own relief..only bonus was adam got an extra 3 days of milk after i stopped the feeding.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 19:26

Munz: DS1 was not a very good feeder and I actually expressed from Day 3 and started every feed with EBM from a cup....

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 14/10/2005 19:27

no cadmum - you found it easy thats all! I had a nightmare first 4 days with jess with no support whatsoever and she was screaming while at the breast and away from it - her first formula feed and she sunk 4oz straight off and topped up with another 2 oz an hour later.... she obviously wasnt getting what she needed!

OP posts:
munz · 14/10/2005 19:28

is it right u can only keep it for 2 hours in the fridge or is that just my DH trying to get out of night feeds? - cos apparently that's what his mate has told him, that their m/w told them iycwim?

we'll have to see what happens I guess. (as long as I don't start leaking all over the show! lol) lol.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 19:28

Oh PLEASE! Wasn't there over a hundred cases of COT death as well.

Being a parent involves making decisions and decisions all involve some risk. That is life.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 14/10/2005 19:30

oh my god we can chat - nearly 100 posts - TODAY!

OP posts:
Nemo666 · 14/10/2005 19:30

24 hrs in fridge isnt it..or thats what adam got..lol

There are tons of cases of people smothering babes, dropping them out of beds, cot deaths but they make the headlines because they are not actually as common as they seem if that makes sense..otherwise it wouldnt be a news story.

munz · 14/10/2005 19:31

I know cads - guess until u're there u don't know iycwim.

100 posts - and I bet 75 of those were after 5.30 pm! - I blame cads with her lemon cake and tea in proper china cups!

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 14/10/2005 19:32

expressed milk can be stored for 24 hours in the fridge - no problem.

Munz: Best advice I ever had about breast feeding was to contact the LLL before your baby is born. They are an amazing organisation made up of experienced mums. You have a very healthy approach with the it might work and it might not. Our DS2 was a nightmare to feed and if he had been our first I would never have stuck it out. This is their website if you are interested.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 19:34

I only breastfeed because I am selfish and LAZY.

Cadmum · 14/10/2005 19:35

Oh yeah and as poor as a church mouse!

Nemo666 · 14/10/2005 19:35

munz it is about geting good help..my mw was rubbish about the bf and always made me feel bad..one day dh had been drinking cola and she gave me this long speech about how i should only be drinking water[whihc i was] because baby got what i had etc and how i needed to watch my diet[ i am a large lady but do eat healthily] and how i shouldnt eat anything spicey etc..so basically made to feel sh*t

munz · 14/10/2005 19:35

lol - ok thanks will give it a look see.

Nemo666 · 14/10/2005 19:36

cadmum there is that to it...bf is free. The formula i got today was farleys and was £5.20 for the tin...sigh am sure a tin lasts about a week.

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 14/10/2005 19:37

bloody hell nemo - she sounds like a witch!

my mw was useless - the one in the hospital wasnt much better - first feed, handed my baby and said "ill pop back ni a bit and see how are doing" - hello??? First time mum, dont know what im doing?! Have explained all this to new MW who seems a lot more helpful, but if im not happy with it then stuff it - bottles it is!

OP posts:
jessicaandbumpsmummy · 14/10/2005 19:38

nemo - i got farleys too! it is bloody expensive but Jess is worth it!

OP posts:
munz · 14/10/2005 19:38
