Anyone due in April 2004?!

Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

Dot1,

Dot,

There is still time for baby to reposition - sometimes they get out of their posterior position during the labour itself.

If baby remains posterior during labour however, my advice to you would be get an epidural as you are probably in for the long haul.

Bunny2 - so you are pregnant too?? Brilliant news - am so pleased for you.

handlemecarefully · 22/03/2004 09:02

Dot, I didn't say your name twice for emphasis - just easily distracted this morning!

dot1 · 22/03/2004 10:32

thanks HMC - am beginning to get quite down about it all really - kind of wanted to do quite a few hours at home being all brave, but if it's going to give me a hard time I reckon I'll be calling a cab to the hospital the minute I get the first painful contraction..!

Baby's certainly still very active - tons of movement - so maybe it'll turn around - have got my next ante natal this Thursday, so hopefully will have better news.

Hope everyone's doing OK - can't believe my due date is next week (gulp)....

Dot

They do keep moving, mine was breech 2 weeks ago and is now head down. You can probably tell how the labour is going and start at home then go to hospital if it's progressing really slowly.

Due date next week - wow! I still have 3 weeks and it feels like a long time, it was a shock this weekend to suddenly realise I could really have a baby very soon. I feel I've settled into pregnancy for ever now, as a sort of long-term disability, I can't imagine it ending for a while yet.

bluecow · 22/03/2004 21:02

I can't believe people are still going to the gym. Wow! An hour's shopping does me in. My bump is so huge it's scary - if I didn't know better I'd swear it was twins.

Mind you, have booked to go to a belly dancing class 12 days before my due date...! My midwife (who's into alternative things) has arranged it and it's for all women, including pregnant ones. Mostly I'm going for the company and because it's for charity but I don't think I'll last long - I really am struggling with my large bump and bad back at the mo.Baby still squirming a lot. Hasn't engaged yet (as it's my second) but is very low. Gonna start on the raspberry leaf tablets and curries soon just to encourage things along!

So exciting that we're all getting near our births. Would it be too clique-y to keep this thread running? I'll miss not keeping up with the April mums.

Bunny and Quackers - thanks so much for your best wishes. Have thought about you.

udar · 23/03/2004 11:47

Isn't it getting exciting. Keep getting these very strong braxton hicks /period pains at random times of the day, especially after my raspberry leaf tea or fresh pineapple. I have just over a week until due date too so am trying everything I can within limits to speed things along.
I managed to keep busy during the first day of maternity leave. The day actually flew by which was a bit of a surprise.
Does anybody know whether you always have the plug show before labour starts or does it sometimes kick in spontaneously without a show?

M2T · 23/03/2004 11:52

I'm SOOOOOO envious of you lot! I have 19wks to go until due date!! How exciting for you all to be in the home stretch (so to speak!).

Udar - I didn't have a show until my waters broke! And I think it's also possible to have a show a few days before labour and not even realise you had it!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL! Looking forward to hearing all the birth announcements over the next 5 wks.

MrsDoolittle · 23/03/2004 12:28

Does anyone get woken up during the night feeling really tight and a really aching bump?
It's happened a couple of times in the lats week and I am wondering where does all this lead.

Fennel · 23/03/2004 12:29

Udar

I didn't have a show with dd1. No signals at all until the contractions started at 41 weeks.

MrsDoolittle · 23/03/2004 12:33

And does anyone know how soon you start taking raspberry leaf tea tablets? Or is tea better?
Questions, questions - sorry

M2T · 23/03/2004 12:40

Mrs Doolittle - I'm going to start drinking the tea at 37 wks.... I drank 3 cups in a row at 39wks with ds and went into labour a few hours later! Probably sheer coincidence, but who knows eh!?? Anything to stop me going 'overdue'.

Best not to start drinking it too early as it can irritate the uterus into contracting and causing you discomfort rather than putting you into labour.

Fennel · 23/03/2004 12:44

I have been taking the raspberry tablets since 34 weeks (3 weeks ago). But have had no contractions. Took them with dd1 from about 37 weeks and had no contractions til proper labour started at 41 weeks. Everyone must be different on this.

Tablets are stronger than tea, that's why I chose them.

M2T · 23/03/2004 12:46

Fennel - It's just a risk that this MIGHT occur, not always.... that's why you shouldn't take it in the 1st trimester.

MrsDoolittle · 23/03/2004 12:51

I am just over 38 weeks and uncomfortable. I had a scan last week that estimated my baby at 7.5lb already and I am beginning to panic.
Can you get the tablets in Boots? I have looked in tescos but without joy.

M2T · 23/03/2004 13:53

MrsDoolittle - Yes, Boots do the tablets. So do Holland&Barrett. Tesco where I live stock the tea, but not the tablets....

Good luck.

MrsDoolittle · 23/03/2004 14:08

Thank you M2T. I should pop out now to Boots. I gather now is a good time to start.I have just been reading the March thread - I can't imagine what it will be like in a couple of weeks. We will have a baby in the house (incredulous tone)

M2T · 23/03/2004 14:19

Good idea MrsDoolittle... yeah it is hard to get your head around isn't it??

Part of you is desperate to have to baby OUT and in your arms.... and another part is desperate for the baby to stay where it is!

I'm still like this with my 2nd.

MrsDoolittle · 23/03/2004 14:37

Okay I am definately going to haul myself out of this chair now and go to Boots. I can't understand why I have everything stacked on the bed but I can't seem to put them in the bag ready for hospital. Like you say M2T, I think there is a tiny part of me in denial. Poor dh is begging now!
My midwife has offered me a sweep this weekend. unfortunately for dh this collides with the rugby, so now he's torn.

udar · 23/03/2004 14:44

I've been taking one cup raspberry leaf tea since 36wks and am trying to get up to 2 cups a day now at 38 wks. Have read fresh pineapple helps but haven't had any luck with that one either.
Am only a bit uncomfortable, have managed surprisingly well I think. Off to have my first cup of tea today.

MrsDoolittle · 23/03/2004 16:39

Well I am back from my trip to Boots. I couldn't find the tablets anywhere and I was disappointed to be told that they don't stock them (and it was a big store in a retail park!). I was pointed in the direction of Holland and Barrett. I shall have to try again tomorrow.

Debbiethemum · 23/03/2004 16:54

Well, I now know that my baby wil arrive on the 15th.
So only 3 weeks and 2 days to wait till I get to meet her (or him) but we all think its a girl.

It's wonderful having all made this decision as I can now relax about it all, knowing I won't have the same experience as last time. I can also organise everyone else with definate dates, so I can schedule when people are coming down etc.

Also only two more days at work and I am just in a fantastic mood.

LucyJones · 23/03/2004 17:11

Hi everyone. I'm due 30th Marxh but I think I'll be overdue so thought I'd join this thread. I've got an appointment at the hospital on the 1st April if nothing has happened by then. The head isn't engaged yet. Are you having a caesarean then Debbiethemum? I wish I knew when mine was coming, such a pain hanging around, this is my 4th week maternity leave so starting to get very bored

dolbear · 23/03/2004 18:46

hello and welome to those who have joined , I keep forgetting to drink the dammed tea , keep going for coffee instead.
REALY fed up now ! , i am 37 weeks and can not wait , its all a big fix ! at the mo i would do anything to get my body back ! not engaged yet , have had dh at home for the last week , although the fone keeps ringing from his work , and next door have decided to take out their chimney , lovely keep getting odd twinges all over the shop , and sense of humour now non exsistant , if dh laughs at my efforts to move around ine more time i am gonna leave a horses head on his pillow

dot1 · 23/03/2004 19:38

Hello! I'm starting to feel like I literally can't move - my tummy's sooooo tight - I keep thinking I'm surely going to burst if I stand up...! Can't possibly go overdue..??! One more week to go, officially, but I keep getting pains and hoping it's the beginning of it all - no such luck so far...

I've got an ante natal appt. on Thursday, when I'm hoping she'll tell me it's moved around - I've been being v. good re: leaning/sitting forwards, and baby's still moving around quite a lot (or it feels like it) - could do with some good news...

LucyJones · 23/03/2004 21:32

Hi Dot1! How do you sit down? I've been told to try not to lean back on the sof but it's really uncomy leaning forward. I tried sitting cross legged on the floor like one book suggested but it made my thighs hurt like crazy! Now trying leaning over back of a chair. Are you doing any exercise at all? I'm trying to go for a walk every day but often feel too lazy! Can't wait to get all this over with and meet my little 'un
