Hello!

I found out last week I was pregnant, and although I've not been to my GP yet, various websites and Miriam Stoppard have told me I'm due on March 31st/April 1st! (poor little april fools baby - let's hope it's late...).

I know it's early days, but wanted to start this thread as I've already got lots of questions - like, is anyone else having quite bad pains? I've been getting bad period-type pains, which have been worrying me, but I understand people do get (this is my first pregnancy by the way!).

Right, that's it - hope I get some company soon..!

I'm with you there Fennel - although I get pains at the front of my pelvis rather than in my back.

Fennel · 16/03/2004 17:41

Am diverting myself with internet shopping however (so much for still being at work, my work ethic is waning fast). Currently searching for the perfect buggy, plus lots of easy-read books and easy-watch videos from Amazon.

Do you order your groceries online? We do - it's great

Fennel · 16/03/2004 19:49

I do, a monthly supermarket shop takes me 15 minutes!

Hello! Really missing posting more regularly on Mumsnet - just don't get the chance to log on as much at home..!

Can't believe (a) only 2 weeks to go but (b) there's still 2 weeks to go..! I'm also getting much bigger - putting on about 1 1/2 lbs a week at the moment... Getting v. strong Braxton Hicks which keep tricking me into thinking (hoping!) this is it - but I know I'm very likely to have an April baby.

Hope everyone else is doing OK - can't wait to see who's going to drop first!

I'm getting more pain in the front of my pelvis - almost groin area rather than my back when I am walking. Also finding my energy levels are either really high or really low - doesn't really sit inbetween at all. Have been having a number of braxton hicks but they are quite different from what I had earlier, they almost niggle my lower back as well now.

38wks today, so if it all happens at least I've made 'normal gestational time'.

Metrobaby · 17/03/2004 12:05

Wow udar I'm impressed that you've got to 38 wks and only going on maternity leave next week ! I'm leaving a month before my due date and already I feel I could leave now

udar · 17/03/2004 12:24

I decided that I really wanted to try to stay as long as possible as it gives me more time on the other side. I do have a lunch time nap everyday at work though down in the sickroom.
Am still trying to go to the gym/exercise a couple (2-3) times a week as well, seems mad to have worked so hard through my pregnancy to try to keep fit and then give up at the end - I know everybody thinks I'm mad.

motherinferior · 17/03/2004 12:34

Udar, sounds like SPD to me. Be careful at the gym.

udar · 17/03/2004 16:29

ooh I thought it might be but what made me think maybe not was when I was swimming I was more comfortable breatstroking than normal kicking. With SPD doesn't it get worse with breaststroking? The pain only kicks in every now and again, but what I am doing at the gym is mainly spinning so am on a bike, and occasionally some upper body weights trying to keep some strength in my arms for carrying around the baby.

Quackers · 17/03/2004 16:41

Just catching up!!!!! Good luck to all your imminent births!

dolbear · 17/03/2004 18:42

I am still not sure if I am having braxton hicks or not ! I am having a kind of strong period pain particularly at night and 1st thing in the morning
can not remember what these pains are , baby moving ? or braxton hocks , or just general pains ? who knows , supose I will find out sooner or later ,
went to the Ideal home expo today , completely pooped now !

hewlettsdaughter · 17/03/2004 19:21

Udar, what you have sounds a bit like what I have - if I overdo things I get pain round my groin. Could be SPD or related - main thing I learned from the physio group I attended last week was not to push through it.
Thanks for good wishes, Quackers - hope you are well

udar · 18/03/2004 09:33

dolbear I'm also getting some period like pains every now and again, in the evenings especially but sometimes during the day. Mine are different from the braxton hicks but I keep hoping that period pains will develop into something more.

Had weekly dr appt this morning and have lost a kilo since last week so hopefully the baby has stopped growing now and it is just a waiting game.

Goodluck to everybody else for our imminent arrivals.

Fennel · 18/03/2004 09:38

Udar - wow you are actually losing weight as hoped in the final weeks? I am getting very large, am really hoping there is no correlation between bump size and baby size or I will be in big trouble.

Took mumsnet advice on making the most of pre-baby time and went to cinema last night. Baby kicked throughout. SOOO uncomfy but luckily had noone behind or in front of me to irritate with my constant wriggling.

udar · 18/03/2004 09:49

My bump is still getting bigger which is wierd with the weight loss, so maybe my fluid is getting less.

Ooh saw the bump photos last night and I just love some of them, my bump looks so different from what I see it looking like.

What movie did you see Fennel? I posted a thread ages ago about whether there was a correlation between bump size and baby size and there didn't seem to be one for most people which is a bit of a relief for us all I'm sure.

Fennel · 18/03/2004 09:59

Thank goodness there's no obvious correlation. At this stage I'd rather just put on flab than have to give birth to a whopper!

Saw a bizarre film about a 50's study of Norwegian single mens' kitchen behaviour. quite good but strange, at the local arty cinema. After baby will be watching mainstream romantic comedy stuff.

am getting no pains or bump lowering so guess I won't be the first to drop. Udar I don't think my bump noticeably dropped either time before.

handlemecarefully · 18/03/2004 12:25

Fennel,

It sounds rivetting!!!!!

dolbear · 18/03/2004 23:03

mmm , think I will stick to buying love actualy and cover girls on dvd with pick n mix from wollies , went to midwiv 2day no dropping here either still not sure what pains are braxton hicks ! was told that bump was v active and heart rate was high , noting to worry about , all i could say was you have met my dh ? ahhh enough said ! v hypo he is
getting hot flashy type things late at night and can not sleep
udar , glad to hear that you are pleased with yr piccies ! am v glad have no full length mirror as keep catching glimpses of myself and v scarey
have no idea about my weight as have not been weighed for 4 months by docs !

bunny2 · 19/03/2004 07:18

Hi, this is the first time I have visited this thread since my departure last Oct. I just wanted to pop in and wish you all the best of luck for the next few weeks. I shall be looking out for all your birth announcements. Bunnyxxx

MrsDoolittle · 19/03/2004 15:49

Hi Everyone, I have only visited this site a few times. I am very pleased that I have done. I am 38 weeks and I am glad to see I am not the only going through all these contracions and SDP. Incase it helps anyone - If your SDP coincides with the babys head engaging then the likliehood is that it will go after your baby is born. If, however, you have had it a while, it will probably take about 6 weeks to go after baby is born. That's what the physio told me this morning.
Thanks for all the advice being posted on this thread - it helps me!

MrsDoolittle · 19/03/2004 15:55

Oh, and Hewlettsdaugter - I am sure we have been to the same physio group.

Fennel · 19/03/2004 17:04

Bunny2 and Quackers - thanks for the good wishes. hope your pregnancies are going well too.

dot1 · 19/03/2004 17:13

Hi - I'm back for another moan...! Just had ante natal - I'm now 38 + 3 and baby's definitely posterior - after being in a lovely position up until last week... grrrrr - wouldn't mind, but I'm always sitting upright - never lean back, never lie on my back - it's not fair! Midwife said it just happens sometimes, and baby might turn around during labour (ouch..?!). So, I've got 11 days to crawl around on all 4's and try and move it around again...

I'm also getting period type pains - mostly in the evening and at night - I reckon it's baby teasing... Tried on the TENS machine last night - dp fitted it - I'm glad we practised 'cos it's quite complicated! Quite a nice pulsing sensation though - I can see it'll be distracting at the very least, which will hopefully be good.

ooh - good luck to everyone - I'm feeling nervous/excited on all our behalfs now - not long to go..!
