Thought the title might be appropriate for both mums and babies

Sazz, KitschnBites are balls of red velvet cake covered in White chocolate & sold in boxes of 5 instead of a box of chocolates etc. Very pretty, very tasty & sodding fiddly till I get the hang of them lol. How is E this morning?

Red, I second Sazz's sentiments about the blink layer!!

Springapore, where are you going

oh, must dash, just heard D in crisp bowl so seconds out, first battle of day about to commence!!

GladioliBuckets · 29/06/2010 08:09

Morning, help yourself to my cauldron of finest Columbian. Columbian what I hear you say - try it and find out. (But don't operate heavy machinery.)

Not sure Kitschnbites appeal to me at all but then I'm not a fan of Cadburys Minirolls either. Whaaaaaa? I hear you say - I just find breaking through a chocolate shell and finding cake a bit disappointing, would rather have something more al dente. I'll stick to the meringue cupcakes.

Missing DS1's first sportsday for work but it's raining so I'm guessing I won't be the only parent missing.

cyteen · 29/06/2010 09:31

singapore are you planning to visit the scary infinity pool in the sky at all? I read about it in last week's Metro and thought of you.

VG how weird, I have just this second been looking at this Victoria sponge recipe - lots of positive comments, although personally I would use whipped cream and sliced strawberries instead of buttercream and jam. But that's just me.

Red is that a genuine congrats on quitting my course?

Having a lazy day so far since the weather can't make its mind up...scorching even though intermittently overcast. Possible park picnic later.

Of course it's genuine. Going down that Baudrillard line was always going to end in tears anyhow. What happened to old school cultural materialism, that's what I want to know.

And academia and motherhood are not a great fit.

I used to get into trouble for encouraging people to leave if they weren't happy. Happy people are more important than retention rates.

Leccy is back on VG, thank goodness.

Crispy, there'll be no diet Coke breaks around here in the foreseeable future. I've already had to go out and point out that they were blocking up a space where a window was supposed to go.

Baby is awake and chanting my name.

Who cares/ Raspberries in cake are delicious, and that's all that counts [gavel]

Rasps pass my vote too!!

Just dropped friend at bus, now to catch up on housework & prep for Env health tomorrow

CrispyTheCrisp · 29/06/2010 16:22

I have a new car. Yipeeeeeeeee

It is exactly the same as my old one but in silver. Call me boring if you like but

I also have a new bin, new pair of shorts, new dress, duvet & sheets for DD2, blackout blind, PJ's for DD1 and a book. Tried to buy a new car seat too but failed. Will reconsider bank balance tomorrow . I don't think i should be let loose with a credit card. Oops

A yes vote all the way for raspberries and cream in a Victoria sponge, but wait until the last minute with rasps as they tend to bleed. In my very extensive cake baking experience

for missing BucketBoy's sports day

dizz could you use your vouchers for a clean for tomorrow?

red windows are very overrated dontcha know

Morning TS

VG The official Mumsnet Vicky sponge recipe was a huge thread, now collated into this v amusing step-by-step guide to prizewinning perfection. I've even cut & pasted this into our NCT newsletter.

QueenofDreams · 29/06/2010 18:21

Hi ladies,
crisp I am most impressed with your shopping spree.
cyteen well done on quitting your course if you feel it's the best thing for you to do, that is what matters.

I've had a very grumpy boy here today. Unfortunately he seems to have been a little constipated, so spent a lot of time crying and clinging to me while trying to poo
Also had some sad news today. Been told that my mum's youngest brother died yesterday. Apparently he was doing some work on a farm and they were drilling holes in the ground to put posts in, and he got too close to the drill and his clothes got caught. (we're obviously not talking about a hand drill here) So I've had to phone my parents who are on holiday to tell them the news. I very much doubt my mum will be able to go to the funeral, tickets to SA aren't cheap at the best of times, but with the world cup it's even worse than usual.

cyteen · 29/06/2010 18:34

Good grief Qod, how awful I'm so sorry to hear that.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 29/06/2010 19:06

Sorry QofD

RedLentil · 29/06/2010 19:13

That's terrible, QOD. So sorry for your loss.

luckoftheirish · 29/06/2010 19:29

so sorry qod xxx

oopsandbabycoconut · 29/06/2010 19:56

So sorry to hear QOD

CrispyTheCrisp · 29/06/2010 19:56

Oh crikey QoD what terrible news for you all . I hope your Mum can get to SA to say goodbye. Would it be easier for her to go direct from where she is now as an extension to her holiday?

For DS you could try whizzing up prunes and putting into natural yoghurt or giving him a mixed fruit whizzed smoothie, and possibly freezing it for added interest

TwilightSurfer · 29/06/2010 20:01

Queen that is horrific. (((hug))) Is there a way for your mother to have a small memorial service here with those members of the family unable to attend the SA service?

Sazzles is spot on with the constipation remedy.

I've posted a link over on the 2008 fb thread. It's to a video blog I read/watch occasionally. Only watch it if you need a little comedy in your day and keep watching after the commercials if you need more. Those ladies could so totally be us chatting here.

Hugs & Kisses to All

TwilightSurfer · 29/06/2010 20:03

and by "here" Queen I mean where YOU are.

QueenofDreams · 29/06/2010 20:25

Crisp my mum is camping in Scotland - she has no money to go abroad.
ts not sure if she'll do a separate memorial as it's basically my parents, siblings and myself in the UK. One of my mum's other brothers lives in Saudi Arabia these days but all the rest of her family are still in SA. THis is the fourth member of her family to die since we've been in the UK and she couldn't go out for any of the other funerals either (including her mum's)

Thanks for the constipation advice. THink I will go buy some prunes tomorrow. I think the problem is that he's starting to do harder poos. He's never liked the feeling of doing a harder poo so I think he's now holding on to poo and essentially constipating himself

TwilightSurfer · 29/06/2010 21:07

queen he may have a small fissure which causes the poo to hurt. clean his bum really well and then use your finger or a q-tip to swab some vasoline on the exit (slightly inside the rim). do this for a few days and all should work it's way out.
