Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
harverina · 18/12/2010 11:29

Hi everyone,

stinkypinky sounds like you are having an eventful week. Poor you and poor Boo. Hope she is ok. So much for christmas spirit - what rotten staffat the chemist! It would have taken them seconds to pass overthe script Angry

zeeky, hope George is better? One of the great things about bf'ing is that babies often latch on even when they are unwell and refusinf food/drink otherwise. Glad to hear your getting organised for xmas.

Happy belate birthday princess and well done Jude, thats fab! Eilidh is still only going backwards but she has now started to go up onto her knees when she is on her tummy so she is trying really hard.

bettymum, how did the nativity go? Does your DS cry during the night? How did you manage to sop the nightime feeds? Sorry for all the questions!

We have heavy snow here this morning - usually love it but supposed to be going away today to a lodge with some girly friends for our christmas night out. Its in Argyle and I have just called to see what the weather is like there and they say that they have also got heavy snow. If I was young, free and single (Wink) I would go ahead and try and go, but I couldn't risk getting stuck there. I have 20oz milk in the freezer and 11oz in the fridge and that will only just be enough to last until tomorrow - we have a tub of Eilidh's special dairy free formula but she has never had it. I'd be terrified that she wouldn't drink it if I got stuck - plus I don't really want her to have it anyway. Plenty of Dr's and HV's have told me that its vile!

So, a bit disappointed, but keeping all my fingers crossed that in the next hour the snow will stop and melt away...considering that its still falling I doubt thats going to happen Sad

stinkypinky · 19/12/2010 20:07

So did you go Harverina? Did the finger crossing work?

Boo needed more steroids today - got them in her in the form of a drug trifle - bread soaked in steroids and calpol, then mixed with frais. yummy! Poor little scrap. She has not weed all day, but Dr was not worried as she is very moist otherwise. I am still pretty worried about that though.

Her big sis has had a horrid weekend as I have had Boo in my arms most of the time, then today when I went back to Dr, she had to stay with daddy, as it was snowing heavily.

Flipping kids Grin

Mistymoo · 20/12/2010 08:56

Hi Stinkypinky I hope Boo is better today. It is a real worry when they are ill. I remember how bad it was when J was 6 weeks old and had a UTI - he was in hospital for 4 days. Hopefully the steroids will work soon.

J still has no teeth but seems to have been teething for the last few months! He more or less sleeps through the night now but when he doesn't it seems to hit us hard. I'm tired this morning because he woke at 4.45 and only slept for about 1/2 hour after that!

harverina · 21/12/2010 00:25

Hi all,
Well I didn't manage to get to my xmas night away. Very disappointed but on the plus side we have rearranged it at no extra cost for february and now going for two nights! Weather still pretty bad here but no more snow has fallen...yet! I am all sorted for xmas. Presents wrapped and under the tree Smile. Only have to pick up my turkey and i'm finished! Went shopping today with my mum and shops were not too bad.

Had a bad night sleep wise last night. Eilidh up at 11pm then 4am...doesn't sound too bad but she stayed up for over 2 hours at 4am! She has the cold again and her gums are still sore so think it was just a combination of these making her unsettled. Feel like she has had lots of bouts of being unwell recently. Only common things like sick bug and cough and cold but its such a shame and still a worry for neurotic mums like me! Poor wee baby is very snuffly tonight and keeps coughing. We have started going to a toddler group every week and she seems to be picking more things up since we started this.
Hope you are all well. Stinky how is boo? misty hope you get a better sleep tonight.
Hope all the mummies who are back at work are Ok? Not long till you'll be off for xmas?

Mistymoo · 21/12/2010 09:40

Haverina thanks for the thought, unfortunately it didn't happen. He was up at 2 and 4 and then 5.15 and at that point I decided to bf him and take him in bed with us. He then woke up at 6.30. I think it is his teeth that are bothering him so hopefully when they eventually come through we can have some sleep :)

Stinky how is Boo? Hope she is on the mend.

Bettymum · 21/12/2010 10:42

A snowy hello to everyone!
Sounds like all our babies are poorly :( Alexander has a horrid cold, and now a cough, and I think his teeth are bothering him too. His two bottom ones are growing daily, his two top ones are through but only just, but there must be more on the way. I am watching him like a hawk as DD developed bronchiolitis at this age and had to have a night in hospital on the oxygen. It was quite scary at the time.
harverina I stopped the nighttime feeds about a month ago (I think) - we just stopped one night and patted him on the back if he woke. We had a few bad nights of listening to him cry and going in every 10 minutes, but he mostly sleeps through now (not last night but then he's not very well). Funnily enough his eating and sleeping improved hugely one he started nursery, I think he's just so busy now he eats well and sleeps well which he wasn't doing with me at home. so I guess that's a small plus side of going back to work and him being in nursery full time.
The nativity was great, DD was a beautiful angel and sang all her songs, and Alexander sat on my lap and smiled and clapped. He particularly liked the French songs that the 4-year olds sang.
Apart from his poorliness, he is doing well, he can clap now which is fun, and he can crawl half way across a room. He's really into everything - I wondered what he was rattling the other evening and then realised it was a box of matches Shock Blush. I am going to have to keep much more of an eye on him than DD.
Can't wait till Christmas now, just a few presents to wrap and the house to clean. I need to go down to the allotment to see if my sprouts are still there, or if they're frozen solid!
That was a bit of a long one, hope everyone recovers in time for Saturday and has a lovely festive time.

harverina · 21/12/2010 17:02

Oh bettymum, I would love Eilidh to sleep all night. Think will tackle sleep training a bit more after xmas - to be fair it is usually jsut one wakening so its not a huge deal.

I am feeling so tired today. Have had a horrible tension headache for the past couple of days so didn't sleep well last night. Eilidh was only up for 15 minutes but I only slept for about 3 hours. Today my head still feels horrible and I just feel sooooo tired. My eyes are soooo heavy Sad...hoping for an early night.

Having a day at home tomorrow to clean clean clean! This house is a tip!

Hope everyone is feeling better Xmas Smile

p.s is Eilidh the only one who can't clap her hands?!

stinkypinky · 21/12/2010 20:32

Hi ladies. Boo is much better thankfully. Just a rotten cold now.

Do not worry harverina, Boo cannot clap either. She can, however, as of today, say mamamamamama. Very proud Grin

I am off for 11 days at Christmas, and plan to slob for the whole time. I am pooped, and really wish I did not work full time. I am mostly prepared, just need to get something for DH. No idea what to get him, as the only thing he says he wants is sex (with me, hopefully!?)

Hoping everyone is soon better and sleeping well, and clapping...

PrincessTweetz · 21/12/2010 21:53

You made me laugh Stinky!!!!! [GRIN] I'm off to my mum's tomorrow, until after Christmas (any one would think she lives quite far..but she lives just down the entry from me!!! ) my DH has told me tonight we need to get some serious action as it will be non existant for a few days...I had to think back cuz I'm sure there's usually a longer wait than a few days!!!!! Blush
I found a tooth today!!!!!! Totally the wrong side to what I thought was gonna pop through, but Jude now has a lil edge of a bottom tooth. Grin
Sleep????? DH went out yesterday afternoon, was back at 9pm, and in bed by 9.45..I slept (??!!) on sofa with monitors on, cuz stupidly I went to check him shortly after he went up, closed the curtains and caught sight of a carrier bag on the floor next to his side of the bed. Gross...it was his sick bag (there was no sick in it) but I didn't want to risk waking next to a heaving lump (shudder!), so i moved my washing basket. took my pillow and went downstairs..insanely, it was makenzi that kept me awake, and Jude slept..all until Makenzi finally fell asleep properly that is..then Jude decided to take his turn. :( Hoipefully tonight...although I'm greatly relieved that they are both ok in themselves and not poorly xx
Have to pop into town tomorrow, hate crowds so not lookingforward to that..although I am massively happy that my pushchair copes with the snow..has a handmuff to keep my hands warm...AND a handbrake to help with icy slopes...wonderful!! Grin (Can you tell that people took pleasure in mocking it when I first bought it hehe)
Hope your headache starts going soon Harverina xx
And hope all the poorly babies get better very soon too xx

Mistymoo · 22/12/2010 22:02

haverina and stinky J cannot clap yet or say any words. He seems to be concentrating on getting about. He stood unsupported for about 3 secs yesterday and walks about pushing his walker. They all do things at different times.

It is freezing here. DH went to work at 8am and it was -11 and came home at 5 and it was -10. I think it is to be colder tonight. I suppose that at least means we won't have more snow but it also means the snow we have is staying for a while.

harverina · 22/12/2010 22:44

Hi all,

stinky, your post made me laugh Smile! I'm ashamed to say that when I am in bed I feel that its such a waste not to sleep these days! Will need to get a grip!

Eilidh is really not well. Think she has a viral infection - she has been sniffly the past few days and sneezing alot but today she has not kept anything down the whole day. She cannot even keep down the smallest amount of water. Nappies bone dry. She saw the GP twice today - he is happy to leave her tonight as she was pretty bright when he last saw her at 6pm, but since then she has been sick alot. Not sure about breastfeeding? The (male) doc said today not to breastfeed if she is still being sick, whereas the last time she had a tummy bug the female doc said to breastfeed as much as EIlidh wanted. Anyone have any thoughts on this? I tried not to feed Eilidh today but she was so upset and looking for a feed all day. I fed her twice and she was sick both times - although the first time she fell asleep on the boob and slept for an hour. She is in bed now, but she is a poor wee baby. I have lost count of how many vests and babygrows we went through today!

Princess, you also made me laugh going to your mums along the way. For a minute I thought you were going long haul Wink

StNeekolas · 24/12/2010 09:48

Hi all
Sorry I've not been on for such a long time. RL has taken over.

Just wanted to wish you all a happy Christmas. Hope all the sick babies (including my own) are better and you all have a lovely time. Will catch up properly next week.

harverina · 24/12/2010 11:24

Love your name stNeeko! Hope your well and that work has been going Ok.
Eilidh a bit better this morning. Its been a rubbish few days.
Hope all the other babies are better and that you are all getting some time to relax over the festive period.
Merry christmas everyone Xmas Smile

Zeeky · 24/12/2010 13:04

Not been around for a little while has had the dreaded lurgy for a few days. Feeling much better now though. We had to cancel our trip to Birmingham to visit to DH's family last weekend due tot the snow. It was just as well really as was not feeling well and George was still poorly. He's better now but we think he's teething. He's sucking his bottom lip non stop & it's getting quote sore now. He also gets a toy and bashes it into his mouth repeatedly, cries but then keeps doing it!

In fully festive mode now. Managed to get all the shopping & wrapping done this week despite feeling poorly. Just got some ironing to do, packing for going to parents' on boxing day, and veg prep for tomorrow & I'll be able to sit down with a glass of mulled wine & a mince pie ;) Going to a children's carol service this afternoon & then to a friend's for nibbles & the kids to play/have tea together.

DS1 is sooooo into Christmas this year (3 &half). We had to make biscuits yesterday & ice them as he said he has to leave Father Christmas biscuits & a can of coke not sherry & a mincepie. I think he's been watching too many American Christmas films! It was fun doing the biscuits together though. We've let him open one present from under the tree each day this week so he's currently glued to Toy Story 3!

Have a good Christmas everyone!

PrincessTweetz · 24/12/2010 22:48

Hello..fresh from building a battery operated mini cooper for dd, (also 3 & 1/2), filling stockings and crumbling up mince pie and carrot ;)...but really wanted to pop by and say a HUGE Merry Christmas to all you mummies...thanks for always being there to read my posts of frustration, fear, happiness and excitement..especially when dp hasn't been listening!!!!! Grin
hope you all have a great day, and our lil cherub's can stay out of their naps/food/nappy changes long enough to enjoy their first Christmas!!! xxxxxx

harverina · 26/12/2010 18:35

Princess what a lovely post. Is is a great thread isn't it. Thanks everyone!
Well we had a lovely xmas day. Eilidh was so good. She was still under the weather though. Unfortunately I now have the sickness bug. Starting being sick at 3am this morning. I'm at my in laws and they and dh have had eilidh all day, just bringing her to me to be fed. I can hear her giggling downstair and have heard lots of music and singing all day. I'm so glad that we are here as my mil has been fantastic. I'm feeling so rotten. This is how poor eilidh must've been feeling all week Sad. I'm on my phone just now so sorry for lack of paragraphs!
Hope you all had a fab day yesterday.

PrincessTweetz · 28/12/2010 20:17

Aww..get well soon Harverina xx
Makenzi has chicken pox!!! Keep checking Jude, but so far so good. We think she must have caught it from nursery just before she broke up for Christmas..now I'm worried my Mum's New Year's Eve party will be a no go area! Hope you all are having a nice time xx

harverina · 29/12/2010 21:35

Poor Makenzi, hope Jude is still spot free!

I am much better now thanks! However, after I got it my sister got it then my DH got it, then my MIL, then my BIL, then my SIL then my FIL! Talk about contagious!

We are now home. Stayed with the in laws 2 extra days due to all the illness. Glad to be home. House is a tip, toys and bags everywhere as we rushed out on xmas day! Will think about the mess in the morning!

Hope your all having a nice time Smile

PrincessTweetz · 29/12/2010 22:45

Hehe..I'm still at my mum's..bee popping up the road (Grin) to check on the hamster and any mail, but we decided to stay put until after New Year's Eve...my mum always has a party, out of the 7 of us, Chief Help is always allocated to me! I wouldn't have it any other way though...that must be the control freak in me Blush
Glad you're feeling better Harverina...in a few days, once you're all sorted, it will be me struggling to find room for the new toys, repacking all the clothes away...or just dumping all bags in the bedroom and clambering over them at night!!! Wink xx

harverina · 29/12/2010 23:38

Our bags are in the hall, in our bedroom, in eilidh's room, in the living room...can't believe how much stuff a baby needs for a few days away! Thats the only downside to going away, packing and unpacking! We are having a quiet new years eve this year. Just me, dh and eilidh who will hopefully be tucked up in bed. Last year we would all have been pregnant!
Hope you are all well. Princess, hope your getting to relax at your mums? My mil was fab, she would come in to our room every morning and take eilidh downstairs to let us go back to sleep once eilidh had been breastfed. What a treat! Smile

PrincessTweetz · 30/12/2010 22:19

Haha...lucky you!! I'm up at the same time as normal..the plus side for me is my mum is an early riser like me so I have company from the second I get up each day.
Such a busy day tomorrow..think I may be too tired to party by the start of it all..and just sneak off to bed Grin x

PrincessTweetz · 01/01/2011 18:06

Oooooooh,....I know I was last person to post so I should wait until you are all less busy, but I just need to pop on and say Happy New Year to you all..2011 has brought our family a lil gift already...I'm pregnant!!! Only just found out...so some of you may think I'm a lil crazy hehe Grin I hope you won't mind me staying on here to chat pregnancy niggles and excitement..I promise not to focus too much on it!! You can all take happiness when I'm whinging about backache..weeing in middle of night..sickness..and you can coo over my first scan!!! :) Happy New Year!!!!!! xx

harverina · 01/01/2011 18:53

Oh princess thats wonderful news! A huge congratulations from me! And i'd love for you to stay and tell us all about your pregnancy. I love talking about pregnancy, birth etc! Oh what lovely news, I'm so delighted and a little jealous haha Blush
Just giving eilidh her last feed as I write this. I'm in her room on our brand new chair. Got it yesterday so that I can feed eilidh in her room after her bath. We usually take her into the living room but its too stimulating for her now! I have to say, the chair is very Comfy and I have my feet up too!
We have had some rubbish sleep nights. Eilidh is going through a bad spell at bed time. She just wants to stay latched on and sleep on me. She is teething so I'm hoping its down to this.
Would be grateful if anyone could remind me of their current routines and any sleep tips?
Oh and how could I forget...happy new year! Smile

Mistymoo · 01/01/2011 20:56

Congratulations princess.

We're all ill in our house. Think it is some time of flu, kids have been sick and have really chesty coughs. I'm going hot and cold and have aching bones. Trying to keep on top of it with tablets and sleep where possible. No one has any energy. J seems to have had a cold for ages but now has the cough too. Hopefully it'll pass and we'll all be OK next week to at least do something in the last week of the holidays.

Bettymum · 02/01/2011 17:59

Happy New Year everyone!!!
Congratulations princess fantastic news! DH is now telling me to get rid of the coil and have another baby Shock Grin. At the momwnt trying to syop Alexander typing along with me, he likes the power lights on mt laptop. Better go, he's very wriggly.....
