Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

Hi guys, just bookmarking, DP is cooking and I'm resting my damn achey body!
Baby Valentin has only been home a day so we'll see how much sleep I get tonight, last night was very little! [yawn emoticon]

helen I used to get worried that I was feeding DD to sleep, and they do say not to, but she just sort of grew out of it. So I wouldn't worry too much. Do what works for you and Noah.
Alexander is 11 days old too, he's still 4oz below birth weight which surprised me as he feeds very well!
And regarding navel, mine was never the same after DD - it went in again, but it was sort of flatter. Alex's cord dropped off yeserday, he is looking like he might have quite an odd navel, more of an outie than an innie.

Neeko · 23/04/2010 09:05

Hi all. Hannah is a milk-monster. Was weighed on Monday at 3 weeks and was 11oz over her birth weight. I'm hopeful that she'll eat away at my flub. Nights have been very up and down (literally and metaphorically) but it's early days.

think the fact that we're managing to post on here sometimes is a good sign!

lineky · 23/04/2010 17:23

Hi Hazel is also a Milk Monster - weighed in today at 8lb 8oz more than a pound on in a week!!
Helen she is always falling asleep on me during a feed and I've decided it must just be what she needs at the mo.
I resorted to a soother last night during a purple faced screaming session at 2am for no apparant reason. It worked but I felt really guilty - however healthvisitor has put my mind at rest

Hi all,
I have moved over as my girl Romy was born on Tuesday night, happy to be here although must admit I have the 4 day blues today! I am really struggling to breastfeed due to sore nipples and its really taking its toll on me. She is a really sucky baby and seems hungry all the time, my milk is coming in now so hopefully that will help but I resorted to a top up of formula last night, Have some nipple shields which I am praying will give me some time to heal up and I can more or less start again!
Sorry moan moan, she is just beautiful and we are totally in love with her too!!
Midwife coming soon so will not let her leave until she helps me sort my latch out then I will cheer up I promise!
Lineky - i resorted to a soother too, my mind was put at rest by midwife too.
xx

Neeko · 24/04/2010 09:48

Jennysbean just bear in mind that constant feeding is totally normal and ensures a good milk supply. It's hard but will get better.
Hannah's another one who falls asleep whilst feeding but I'm not going to worry about it. She's still so little and is my last so I'm trying to savour being the centre of her world while it lasts.

stinkypinky · 24/04/2010 10:32

Hello ladies, just bookmarking - back soon, and will introduce the lovely Billie

Jennysbean · 24/04/2010 11:12

Thanks neeko I guess I just thought I would pick it up easily as I fed DD1 for so long, had conveniently forgotten the nipple agony!
Will persevere and soldier on.
Hi Stinky I love the name by the way.
xx

LuckyC · 24/04/2010 12:15

Hi all, I am a May mum but have to jump ship to April after baby girl Matilda arrived unexpectedly a month early. She is battling a lot to put back on her birthweight and I am feeling at end of tether and can't get heard on the happy/excited chatter or the pre-baby May club, so do you mind if I crash the April club? And moan?

stinkypinky · 24/04/2010 12:49

Welcome LuckyC - they will all be moaning on your thread too as due dates come and pass... then they will be seeking your expert opinion!

Sorry Matilda is struggling weight wise - are you feeding her yourself?

Glad you like the name JennysB

stinkypinky · 24/04/2010 12:53

JennysB sharing the nipple agony - could kiss the makers of Lansinoh - are you using that?

Jennysbean · 24/04/2010 14:57

If I could buy shares in Lansinoh Stinky I would!! Love the stuff, also just airing a lot so have the blinds half closed so as not to traumatise the neighbours!
What a difference a few hours makes though, managed two really good long feeds and Romy totally chilled out now so I feel I have turned a corner.
Plus lovely mum in law has taken DD1 out to the park with her wee cousin so she is a happy bunny which is a load off my mind.
Luckyc Romy has lost a lot of weight and so I have been instructed to feed pretty much constantly and if no improvement by tomorrow to express and top up. It is a worry so I know how you feel. She will be fine with you looking out for her. Do you have a good midwife you can chat to? I have two, one not so good, hence the tears yesterday and one brilliant ( more rational today)

ReneRusso · 24/04/2010 22:13

Hi LuckyC, my baby's called Matilda too . Sorry you're feeling worried. How much below birth weight is she? I know it's fairly common to still be below birthweight even after 2 weeks. Does she seem well otherwise?

LuckyC · 25/04/2010 14:35

hi stinky and jennysb and renerusso

Thanks for calming words! Yep, feeding her myself, and expressing to top her up. She is currently getting 6 feeds a day - having to wake her to feed her every time. On midwives' advice am trying to get her to 7/8 feeds but it's tough - it's pointless trying to feed her on less than 2 or 2.5 hours sleep (her not me!) as she is just too sleepy to suck. Will persevere and keep calm. Ish.

I too salute the God Lansinoh.

Rener love the name! Do you think it's trending?? Prob will be most popular next year.

thedollshouse · 26/04/2010 16:46

Hi all, just checking in, I was starting to feel like I would be pregnant forever and I can't believe that Rory is already 6 days old.

Breastfeeding isn't going very well for us. Rory wasn't interested when we were in the hospital, he was born by c-section and was quite muscousy which was putting him off feeding. The hospital will not allow you home unless they have seen two good feeds so I had to resort to formula as I didn't want to stay in any longer. The breastfeeding support in hospital was fantastic, my experience this time was the complete opposite to when I had ds1, Its just a shame that we haven't cracked it yet!

I am mainly giving formula but topping up with breastmilk, my milk came in on Saturday and I thought that we could reverse the situation as we had a couple of really good breastfeeds but I can't seem to get Rory to feed for longer than 5 minutes each side and sometimes he doesn't want it at all. Weight wise he is doing well he only lost 4oz. I'm not going to beat myself up about it, with ds1 I got myself really stressed about it and was worried sick as ds1 lost loads of weight. We are trying our best but if it doesn't work out I will just accept it as one of those things as I don't want to go through all the worry and stress that I went through with ds1.

Hope everyone is well.

MumNWLondon · 26/04/2010 17:27

Thought I'd check in here - baby Zev born on 17th April. Feeding is going well partly as he's DC3 so I knew what to do!

Wondering if any of you could recommend sleep nursing bras - went to mothercare but the fabric was double layered - looking for something comfortable, inexpensive and very light weight really just to keep the breast pads in place...

ReneRusso · 26/04/2010 18:57

MumNWLondon have a look at Carriwell bras, I got mine online at boots.com, eg
this one and this one.
They are buy one, get second half price.

ReneRusso · 26/04/2010 19:02

LuckyC, I can guarantee Matilda will be top ten before long . I thought I was being quite original with my other girls names, but they very soon shot up the popularity list.

Bettymum · 27/04/2010 08:59

MumNWLondon my boobs so leaky this time, but with DD I wore an old tankini top in bed with breastpads in. It seemed to work!

stinkypinky · 27/04/2010 09:18

I made my own bras by adapting asda sport bras bought in sale for £1.25... using clips and bra elastic bought off ebay (smug tight arse emoticon)

lineky · 27/04/2010 10:37

dollshouse Hazel only ever feeds for 5 or 10mins at a time and she's 4 weeks now - I was worried but she is putting on weight and HV says she may just be efficient so I wouldn't worry too much.
Introduced a bottle last night to try and allow me some sleep - She had other ideas and just stayed awake for 3 jours after before getting another feed from me! i was VERY grumpy to the extent DH is not speaking to me this morning
I really must try and be more positive through the night but am finding it very hard.

Bettymum · 27/04/2010 12:24

stinky am impressed by your ingenuity!
lineky hope tonight is easier for you.
