Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

OP posts:

Guacamo, we are exactly the same! The pantley method seems to be working for us the past couple of nights. Eilidh was up once during the night at 2.30am. Very short feed and as soon as she got sleepy and was doing fluttery sucks, I gently took her off and when she rooted again, I gently held her mouth closed and spoke to her quietly, tickled her hair etc. It worked! BUT, she cried when we put her in her cot. Third time lucky and was all very quick. She was awake when we put her in her cot, but sleepy. She blethered for a minute or so then went to sleep till 7am. Going to stick with this and see how it goes. It is from the No Cry Sleep Solutions book, but I got the info for it online.

Hi Misty! Eilidh not crawling yet or cuising but she is really trying to crawl. She is very fast...going backwards!

Snow is starting to thaw here. It is my work christmas night out tonight. Its miles away so still deciding what to do. I know with this weather and the time of year that taxi's will be a nightmare. BUT do I want to drive for an 45 minutes each way for a cheap meal (£10!) and a diet coke? Not sure!

sayitwithme · 10/12/2010 14:50

bettymum sorry to hear your start back at work has been less than gentle. Hope things improve for you.

haverina similar time period - they've had their coughs now for over a week. Luckily, I think things might be on the mend... . Will have to look up the Pantley method - I haven't heard of that one.

No signs of movement from DS. He seems more than happy to sit in one place and have stuff brought to him!! His sister is always happy to comply, burying him in all available plastic at every opportunity.

Also no signs of teeth. Plenty of fuss and tears, but they're still hiding their sorry white peaks. Pesky blighters. And DS hates all teething gels and hates having fingers stuffed in his mouth (I suppose I would too actually). He really is quite a cross baby at times.

haverina, can sympathise totally with your dilemma on works do. Sounds like a bit of a jaunt for a questionable night out, if you ask me. Xmas Wink Give me a bottle of wine, a nice hot bath and some crap telly anyday!!! Oh god, I'm getting old... ("Getting?!" I hear you cry. "You've already got a grey pube, surely that's telling you something". OK, OK, you're right, I'm a wrinkly. )

sayitwithme · 10/12/2010 14:52

P.S. Hello Guacomohoho (hope I've got that right)! I'm relatively new to this thread too so you've got company. As you can probably tell, I tend to divulge too much detail so I reckon the others probably think I'm a nutcase. Grin

ilovesprouts · 10/12/2010 17:29

ilovesprouts · 10/12/2010 17:35

PrincessTweetz · 11/12/2010 21:22

Just popping on..can hear murmuring ..oh no, they both crying!!

PrincessTweetz · 11/12/2010 21:34

Looks like they both coming down witha cold..and dd sounds like she's getting a barky cough...and she's got her very first christmas play at nursery on Wednesday too..she is the star that doesn't twinkle, and I was really looking forward to going!!!
Jude can rotate on his bum now, and does the red indian thing on his mouth..only he has decided to put his fist in his mouth and open and close his fist to do it!! Grin
Bettymum..I went in the bedroom the other morning, after dd told me she had given Jude some toys to play with before he had his nap...and I couldn't believe how much she had given him to play with!! She does the same in the living room..she piles him with toys so you can just about see him! It's still cute to see them together though, she wrapped up a lil pressie of santa socks for him today, and did her own tag too, she was well impressed..right this is a bit of a rushed post, so I'm sorry if it's a bit random..I'm meant to be writing christmas cards but they are going back in the kitchen til tomorrow too!!! xxx

harverina · 11/12/2010 21:34

Hi princess! How are you?!

Eilidh is just in bed :( She is teething...she has a second tooth popping through and I can only assume thats why she has been unsettled he last two nights. Feeding on and off, crying, smiling, yawning, rubbing her eyes, howling when we put her in bed Confused

Hope the crying was just a false alarm princess...

harverina · 11/12/2010 21:34

Oops x post!

PrincessTweetz · 11/12/2010 21:54

Aww..Jude has no teeth yet, while his 4 month old cousin has 2 bottom teeth already!!! It's horrible when they are tired but just can't settle..Jude was like that earlier today, and just couldn't calm down for a nap, I felt so helpless :(
He has resettled now, while Makenzi is sitting on sofa with us..chatting happily away as she has been allowed downstairs!!
Jude's sleeping habits are slowly getting better..he is settling a lot quicker at night, and not always needing a feed before going back to sleep, although he still has about an hour each night where he lies there gurgling away to himself...much better than crying, but I lie there awake listening to him, only to start to drift off, and then have Makenzi start to wake up as well!!!!!
Hope you're well other than the teething Harverina xx

harverina · 12/12/2010 18:43

Yeah Princess we are well apart from the teething. Sleep is generally ok...I know I shouldnt really complain as I know that other people have a nightmare. Eilidh is generally in bed for 7.30/8pm and only wakens once - recently we have had some difficulty early evening, but its not a huge issue.

Had the in laws over today for sunday lunch. They are now away, EIlidh is ready for bed, so hopefuly bedtime will go without a hitch so that I can watch the x-factor.

Hope you are all well.

Zeeky · 12/12/2010 19:21

Hi all. Had a terrible couple of nights with George on thurs & fri night. He's got a cold, cough & and a bit of a temp at times. Thurs night he woke at 3 which is better than normal but then threw up his whole feed all over me. He then wouldn't settle and was sick all over his bed too, so at 4am I was changing bedding and stripping him off. He then didn't settle until about 6.30 & alarm went off at 7 to get up so was rather tired on Friday. We had friends come to stay for weekend so put G in a travel cot in our room so that one of their children could sleep in his room. This combined with his cough/cold/temp meant he wouldn't settle again and kept waking every hour or so! Last night was better thank god as he was so shattered. Been on a Santa Special train ride today so his routine has been shot to pieces & he screamed for an hr this afternoon as was overtired :( Friends have gone now, so hoping that tonight will be ok.

Just feeling really knackered and have got so much on over the next couple of weeks (school parties, nativity play, friends for dinner, visiting inlaws etc) as well as finishing Christmas shoppng, food shopping, wrapping presents etc. I normally love all this bustle before Christmas but finding it really hard this year :(

Bettymum · 13/12/2010 09:43

Poor you Zeeky, hope things are a bit better today!
I went out for a two hour walk on my own yesterady, through the chilly blustery countryside, it was fab. I am trying to hold that thought through a week in the office...loads of crying again this morning (me not the DC's) at the thought of leaving them. Keep telling DH to make more money so I can stay at home and cuddle them all day Wink.

Zeeky · 13/12/2010 10:57

Another bad night with 2hrs of crying & then vomit. He won't settle for a nap this morning so am resorting to feeding to sleep right now so that he can at least get some rest. Got a dr appointment tomorrow morning for him.

harverina · 13/12/2010 21:58

Oh Zeeky, really feel for you. Eilidh had a cough/cold a couple of weeks ago and it was horrible. She had a temp at times too. Despite being sick, Eilidh breastfed constantly - it was like she was newborn again. I found myself sitting on the couch with her for over 2 hours and she didn't stop feeding once. Poor George. Hope tonight is better for you.

We had a bad night last night too. EIlidh went to bed at 7.15pm. At 8.30pm she woke up and was screaming and that was her up until after midnight. She was crying/feeding/rubbing her gums/screaming/restless/dozing/waking and on and on...I took her into my bed and she finally fell asleep. She woke up at 5.30am for a feed. I could have cried.

Went christmas shopping again today with my mum, sister and Eilidh. Had a lovely day. Eilidh was really good. We left early so she wasn't home for her first nap, so our routine was all over the place. When I make plans I usually make sure Eilidh as at least one of her naps in the house before we leave but today that didn't happen - it meant that her milk feeds were all over the place. She had a milk feed at 1pm instead of her solid lunch, so when she had her solids at 3pm she ate loads! We were late home, I didn't think she would need tea as she had eaten hundreds at lunchtime and it was so late (between 3-4pm!) when she ate. However, she was really distracted breastfeeding so I decided to try her with some porridge and she ate a HUGE bowl!

Bettymum, sorry to hear your upset about returning to work. I can imagine how you are feeling. I dont return until April/May next year and I am dreading it. Hope this week is not as busy and stressful for you as last week.

Zeeky, take a big deep breath and just do one thing at a time. Do not panic, you will get everything done. Could you delegate some of the things to your DH?

Hope everyone is well Smile

Zeeky · 14/12/2010 01:00

Thanks for your support haverina. I'm up feeding G now (1am) & really hoping he is going to settle quickly after it. I know this illness can't last forever & we've been so lucky that this is the first time he has really been poorly. We're going to visit the in-laws at the weekend & staying in a travelodge so just praying he will be better by then as don't want to be dealing with a poorly baby in a hotel room!

PrincessTweetz · 15/12/2010 20:55

Aww..we have poorly cherubs here too..tonight Jude has been on a screamathon, really struggled to get him to eat his tea, but he settled after a bath, and had a nice glug of milk before bed...all peaceful at the minute x < that's my crossed fingers!!!
It was Makenzi's very first christmas paly today..she was the star that couldn't twinkle...I could feel myself welling up with pride, but managed not to make myself look like the neurotic carzy mother (taht I am!!) Grin
They've both got husky voices, and (shamefully) I must say I love the sound of their huskiness, it's adorable. Blush I obviously don't like the poorly side to it though!!
Finally have finished my christmas shopping..apart from clothes I need to get for myself with money from my mum..hoping to get a new outfit for my anniversary New Year's Eve. I can't believe it's almost a year ago that i got engaged..I looked at a pic the other day on Facebook, and at my podgy face, and cute bump, and the surrealness of Jude being tucked up in there!! Time flies, every day feels more or less the same, but yet so much changes!
We very sadly lost an uncle of mine yesterday, an absolute gentleman, and a true gem of a person, a genuinely one of a kind man. Another slap in the face perspective moments. :( It's my birthday tomorrow, and I'm not having a mad fancy burlesque themed night out, I'm having a proper family day, with my man, kids and my mum...and the trail of sister's/brother's/nephew's/niece's bla bla bla that consist too!! Grin
Also, talking of engagements..we have finally set a (guideline) date of New Year's Eve 2012...which will be our 10th year anniversary..so verrrrry happy about that...now, just gotta work on how I'm actually going to be able to walk down the aisle without having a panic attack whilst everyone's looking at me Confused!!!!!! Grin xx

stinkypinky · 15/12/2010 21:01

Princess - New Years Eve would be blooming expensive though? I got married on a Monday as it was half the price Blush

I have a poorly baba too - Boo has a boil on her scalp - came up all of a sudden, puss too. Yuk! Off to Dr tomorrow.

Hope everyone is improving...

harverina · 15/12/2010 22:47

Hi everyone, sorry to hear your babies are unwell princess and poor boo stinky.

Eilidh is still teething. BUT, she slept all night last night! Woo hoo! I slept for 8 hours Smile, was so shocked and delighted when I woke up at 6.45am this morning and she was still asleep!

Can I ask what you do if your DC's waken early in the evening? Breastfeeding mums do you always offer the breast? This is what we have always done but last night when Eilidh woke up at 9.30pm I soothed her, gave her calpol (she was chewing her hand and really upset), sang to her and massaged her gums and she was sleeping in minutes - literally within about 3 minutes. I couldn't believe it. Neither could my DH!

Tonight she did the same again, woke up screaming about an hour after going to bed. She was chewing on her hands again and on my finger (ouch!) so I massaged her gums, gave her calpol, sang to her, put some cream on her neck as its getting red again from drool and just soothed her. Tonight took longer but she fell asleep again without being picked up and fed.

Her gums really seem to be bothering her. I don't like giving calpol, but is it ok in the short term to help with particularly bad teething bouts? My DH says that I always leave it too long before giving Eilidh calpol. I hate taking medication myself. I'm always telling people that there isn't a pill for every ill!

So...I think that very gradually we are starting to break the feed/sleep association. I think that we have made it harder on ourselves TBH - the smallest whimper and we have always picked Eilidh up and fed her! Not sure if the pantley withdrawal has anything to do with the improvement. Who know with babies?!

zeeky, how have things been? Hope your stay at the travel lodge goes ok and that you have a nice weekend away.

Great news that you have a set a date princess! Stinky, we got married on a sunday for the very same reason! It was fab, saved money on most things. Princess we saved alot of money by booking things at wedding fairs - alot of companies offer money off if you book there and then. We got 50% off our cars for it being a sunday wedding then an additional 20% off again for booking at the wedding fair!

harverina · 15/12/2010 22:48

P.s I almost wrote at the start of my message..."just on quickly"...and check out how long my post is sorry! Blush

Bettymum · 16/12/2010 16:07

Happy Birthday princess! Hope you had a lovely day Xmas Smile
Work getting a bit better, I'm working from home tomorrow morning as I have the DC's nativity in the afternoon. DD is an angel and DS is a star. Can't wait!
harverina DS is teething a bit, but he's pretty good in the evenings. If he does wake soon after going to bed, I do offer him the boob. I don't in the night now though, and I don't if he wakes up earlier than about 5.30 in the morning. After that, I give him a feed and put him back to bed if it's before 6.30. This morning I fed him and brought him in with us, he fell fast asleep and I ended up dressed, breakfasted and ready for work while he and DH were still snoring peacefully together Xmas Smile.

Zeeky · 16/12/2010 18:42

Hi all! Firstly - congrats Princess on setting a date. New Eve sounds cool for a wedding as everyone is in the party mood!

We've been having a rough time with poor Georgie. Got antibiotics from dr on tues for his cough. He then started to vomit & get diaorhea (or however you spell it??!) after each medicine dose. Took him to hairdressers with me where he proceeded to spew & poo everywhere! Phoned dr who's now given him different antibiotics & so far today no sick. Poo are thickening up a bit too. He's eating a little but nowhere his usual amount. He's still really smiley & giggly though bless him! I've been bf every opportunity though as worried he's not getting enough fluid if I don't.

Feeling a bit more on top of Christmas now as finished shopping & done some wrapping. Spent all day cooking as got friends over for dinner tomorrow.

PrincessTweetz · 16/12/2010 20:37

Jude can crawl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today he has been all over the place..in amongst the christmas tree..grabbing at the pressies..over near the door, trying to open it (obviously it was slightly ajar..I'm not suggesting he's jumping up at the handle!!!!) It's so cute, but now I really ahve to watch what he's up to..and poor Makenzi needs to realize that she can't just grumpily move to the other side of the room when he wants her toys!! Grin
It's not actually crawling..it's an assault shuffle he does, but he does it!! xx
I had a nice birthday..was thinking that a couple of years ago, I was shivering my bum cheeks off in a barely there burlesque fancy dress outfit..but tonight I'm curled up on sofa, stuffed to the brim with an indian curry and samosas...can't you just tell I'm a mummy to a non sleeper, and just can't bear the thought of having to do early mornings with a hangover!!!!!!! Wink
I'm really hoping that money doesn't get the better of us for a New Years Eve wedding..but that's why Im calling it a guideline date, just in case disappointment has to settle in x
Hope your nativity goes well Bettymum x
Hope the antibiotics continue to work better Zeeky x

stinkypinky · 16/12/2010 21:03

Well done Jude! Cool! Boo can crawl backwards, but very slowly, and she gets very annoyed as she is trying to go forwards.

Got antibiotics for Boo, put script into Chemist to collect when I had got Asha from Nursery, and they closed the door just as I got back - looking at me while they locked the door with a cold hard stare - cannot believe they would not open the door for antibiotics for a 7 month old! Gits! They take so blooming long usually, which is why I did not wait for them. They also closed 1 minute early! Grrr!

stinkypinky · 18/12/2010 10:27

Boo puked with each dose, so Dr said not to bother as boil healing.

Early morning trip to hospital today - Boo has croup - had steroids, but puked with them too.

She is marginally better now, and has had a small bf. Sleeping peacefully. No fever and chest is clear, sats ok. Oh the joys of parenthood.
