Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
nicnacinoonoo · 04/08/2010 12:10

yeah i think a list is a good idea.

nicnacinoonoo, 24: ds Ajay 17/03/06, dd Kacie 01/04/10

something like that?

harverina · 04/08/2010 12:47

Neeko, hope you get on ok with HV today and that you are feeling well. I suppose if Hanah took a bottle it would give you a break for a wee while. Would you consider just going out for a couple of hours and hoping for the best or would this just worry you too much?

After saying that I hadn't noticed Eilidh having a the 4 month growth spurt I think that I was very wrong! Last night she was up till 11pm. She took 5oz expressed BM from her dad and fed off of me on and off for 3 hours. She would be in bed sleeping and then waken up starving. Her gums are def sore too. She keeps starting to feed then pulling off. Had a hard morning. Took over an hour and a half for her to take a feed and she was getting really upset. Tried massaging her gums, giving her ashton and parsons and bonjela and nothing really seemed to work.

Had a c-section so would need to wait a minimum of a year before thinking about DC2 - however, think we will wait a couple of years before trying again. I do like the idea of having Eilidh almost in school before trying again but not sure I want to wait that long.

Is anyone back at work yet?

stinkypinky · 04/08/2010 15:25

Not back at work yet - will be Oct. Need to write that letter and thrash things out.

Just a quick post to say that we had George christened at the weekend. He was soooo good. It was his nap time so he yawned through the service & then dozed off on the vicar's shoulder!! We managed to squeeze him into the 150yr old family christening gown, so he looked like a girl

stinkypinky · 05/08/2010 08:23

Sounds fab Zeeky - I keep reminding DH to organize Billies christening as she is bigger than her sister was. We do not have a treasure like your gown, but still do not want to pay for another - Ashas cost enough! It is his side of the family who like christenings - if it was up to me, neither would be done.

nicnacinoonoo · 05/08/2010 08:59

aw glad he was good for you zeeky
still got 3 months until Kacie's christening and i've already bought her dress so hope she will fit into it then.

princess you are brave! and maybe a little crazy

housewife here, so no work to go back to for me. am i the only one?

Neeko · 05/08/2010 09:15

Hi all. HV was pleased with my progress and I definitely feel better in myself. Going to try the bottle attack again today. H slept pretty well again last night which really helps.
I don't go back to work until December and they owe me holidays so i'm going back 3 days a week but getting paid for 5 for a wee while, which will be great. Think after that I'll see about going P/T.

Harverina Hope Eilidh slept and is feeling better today. it's tough when they are out of sorts and you don't know what to do.

PrincessTweetz Seriously?! Don't know whether I think you're brave or crazy I have to admit it makes me a little sad to think I'll never have a boy but I adore my girls and two is definitely enough for me. I even had the copper coil fitted to make sure I don't suddenly change my mind. it's a 10 year one so I'm good til June 2020!

Neeko glad your feeling better. Good luck with trying the bottles again. I will keep all of my fingers and toes crossed for you.
Nic i'm afraid I have work to go back to but not until april. I am taking the full year plus my holidays. Dreading it already as need to put eilidh into nursery for a couple of days. Thats why i'm waiting the year before going back. We want to move house next year so I have to go back. Eilidh had her immunisations this morning. I could have cried! She seems ok just now and is napping. Going out for lunch today so better go and get some housework done! Hope you are all well.

Jennysbean · 05/08/2010 11:58

Neeko I think we should get together as having the same issues.....! Romy refuses to take a bottle completely, not from DH , mum or me, I am going to get a doidy cup today to see if she will take some milk from that. I have tried formula as well and no, she will not drink......
I am due to go on this hen night overnight on Saturday and I know I will have to pull out.
Harverina I fretted about nursery with Isabel for months before she started, she has gone 2 days a week since she was 9 months and just adores it, always has done. It's a really positive think I think, they get so much from it.
Jesus, having another one already....? No chance, I am 32 now and IF we have another Romy will be at least 4! Too hard....
x

Zeeky · 05/08/2010 12:10

nicnac I'm a housewife/stay at home mum/drudge or whatever else people want to call it! I really enjoy being at home fulltime & don't know how you guys that work do it as well as the housework, sleepless nights etc - you are superwomen! Probably will go back to work eventually when boys are both in school. DS1 goes to nursery for 2 mornings a week which is a wonderful break. Was awful at first but he has really settled in now & loves it.

princess can't believe you are already considering #3 ! I would like another but not for at least a couple of years.

Bettymum · 05/08/2010 13:02

Hello ladies! My DH's computer broke so he's been using mine, I have had no internet, boo. I have just caught up on all your news though. Congrats to your sister Princess!
Alexander had his 16-week jabs today, he was a brave boy. We are still having a nightmare with the BF, I just don't know what's wrong. It wasn't thrush, as the cream did no good, I am slapping on the Laninsoh now but that doesn't seem to help much either. Most feeds I am bent double and crying with the pain, but then I get the odd feed that is fine. DH went out and bought nipple shields yesterday, Alexander seemed to think they were a great new toy, gave me a tremendous bite, I yelled, he got a fright and started screaming and screaming...aaaaargh. Anyway being the stubborn git that I am, we are persevering for now.
harverina there is a 2.3 age gap between my two and it's great, it would have been slightly less but I had a MC just before getting pg with Alexander. I must admit I think it would be hard if the older one couldn't speak much or understand much, DD is a helpful little soul and loves her brother. It is harder with two, but it is lovely.
So, adding myself to the list before I forget...

Neeko · 05/08/2010 21:49

jennysbean It's actually a relief to hear someone else has tried everything. (BTW I've tried the Doidy but it was no use, maybe when she's bigger) I think some people think I'm lying that she won't take a bottle but she screams the place down and refuses to suck, regardless of what's in it. Medela have brought out a new teat. It's £10 but I'm considering it.
I know that if I can't get her to take a bottle willingly then eventually i'll have to refuse the boob and essentially starve her to make it happen It really makes me stressed to think about that.
(Sorry, didn't mean to go on)

Harverina Hope you had a nice lunch and Eilidh behaved herself.

harverina · 05/08/2010 22:11

Jenny and Neeko have you tried going out of the house and letting someone else feed with a bottle? I'm sure you have! Thanks Neeko, we had a lovely lunch, eilidh was brilliant as usual.

wws · 05/08/2010 22:19

Great to hear am not alone with the sleepless nights Rory (3months) still waking at 3am and won't really go over again, he justs wants to play. All worth it for those gummy wee smiles tho.

nicnacinoonoo · 06/08/2010 08:00

neeko definitely dont think you're lying. i was one of those babies, my mum is always telling me how i would never take a bottle or a dummy. i refused anything but her apparently and all i did was scream, feed or sleep! and i am still just as awkward Grin dont know how my mum coped but then they weaned at 3 months in those days so i assume it got better then.

Zeeky · 06/08/2010 08:05

neeko & jennysbean don't give up hope. DS1 was the same - screaming & vomiting if I tried to give him a bottle. I kept trying a couple of times a week and then one day he suddenly sat back & drank the lot. It was a few weeks into starting solids so don't know if it was because he was more used to have strange things his mouth or what. The only bottle he would take was NUK with a latex teat (softer & more boob-like). He liked the bottle so much that we had a heck of a job to wean him off them onto cups & it also meant the breastfeeding quickly went out the window. I would have been happy to carry on bf'ing morning & night but my supply dried up once he dropped his daytime feeds in favour of bottles.

DS2 seems to be following the same pattern although started off well taking one bottle a day, now given up trying. Will start trying again when starting solids.

So there is hope for you. I also know a lot of people who missed out the bottle completely as babies wouldn't take it & moved straight to a sippy cup.

Mistymoo · 06/08/2010 09:33

I think I will try to move straight on to the sippy cup. DS has taken a bottle a couple of times, once with bm and the other with formula. He wasn't too keen on the formula at first apparently (mum had him) but when he realised that was all he was getting he took it.

Neeko · 06/08/2010 15:49

Thanks for all your comments re bottle. I've seen a new product from Medela called Calma that I'm going to try. Failing that I'm hoping the introduction of solids will make a difference.

Hope you all have a good weekend. i'm sneaking out to Pizza Hut once Hannah goes down. Rock n roll! Smile

stinkypinky · 06/08/2010 20:14

DD1 at grandparents, DD2 asleep by 6.45 - already had sex, dinner and beer Grin

Camping tomorrow near In-laws, so been packing all day.

Life is good Smile

Neeko letting a baby go sufficiently hungry to accept a bottle is not starving them. Needed to do similar with DD2, and she accepts it fine now - whinges intermittently though. DD1 never complained once.

Wishing long restful nights and happy days to you all x x x (beer kicking in clearly)

PrincessTweetz · 06/08/2010 20:15

Ooooh...I love Pizza Hut!!! :D
My piggy man Jude is now on solids (I am aware many mums are waiting for the 6 month mark xx) and he is on 3 meals a day now!!!! Last night I put him to bed at 7pm, and he slept til 4am...would have been a great night's sleep for me had Makenzi-Shei not decided to wake me ecery hour an half for the toilet, drinks, Bun and to put her blanket back on!! Tonight, he went down at 6.25pm...and so far so good!! We really are starting to get into a rhythm now...breakfast and milk at 7.30, bath and dressed, then a 2 hour nap. The middle of the day is come how it will lol, then bedtime normally at 8ish...fingers crossed the last two nights are going to fit into our 'rhythm'!! (I call it a rhythm rather than routine...cuz sometimes it's a bit haywire lol)
Nicnacinoonoo I'm a stay at home mummy too. xx
And thanks to all of you that have confirmed my latest thoughts.....I really must be one crazy lady!! ;) xx
