Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
stinkypinky · 06/08/2010 20:20

Princess, If I was a stay at home mum I would have as many as I could - DH is a student so my wage is our only income, and he could not cope with being a stay at home dad.

Rhythm is a nice way of putting it btw Smile

I went to the breastfeeding clinic at the hospital today, the midwife there had five children Shock. The clinic was supposed to be for babies up to six weeks only, they were a bit surprised to see a hulking great four-month old, but the midwife did see us and took one look at us and told me the latch was all wrong. So I've changed the positioning and touch wood it's better already :).
Have a nice weekend everyone :).

Zeeky · 07/08/2010 04:37

Well done bettymum for getting sorted. Was it RBH you went to (I think I remember you saying you were in Berks)? I found the bf clinic very good when I had probs with feeding at 3 weeks. A real eye-opener too seeing all the other babies & eavesdropping on everyone's issues Blush.

Hoping to keep George off the solids as long as possible as off to Eurodisney at end of Sept when he'll be 5 months & so would be much easier if he is still just breastfeeding. We started DS1 on solids at 19 weeks as his weight gain had dropped off & started waking more at night. Have to confess that I am dreading the whole weaning process. I found it quite stressful last time with all the juggling breastfeeds & solids & felt it was much harder to go out anywhere as it seemed to be a constant round of either bf'ing or mush! Hopefully I won't find it as confusing this time.

Zeeky · 07/08/2010 04:41

Ooooh meant to say that George is in his big cot in his own room tonight for the first time. I haven't slept very well so far as keep worrying that I won't hear him when he wakes! He went straight to sleep so obviously found it nice and comfy! Up feeding him now so did hear the slurping snuffling noises he makes when he wakes fir food!

nicnacinoonoo · 07/08/2010 10:28

princess i weaned Ajay at 4 and a half months and he took to it straight away. trying to hold off this time until 5 months as Kacie was born a week early and has reflux but we will see. i loved the weaning process last time so cant wait and really hoping she takes to it like Ajay did. nursery nurse is coming to talk about weaning on wednesday so will see what she says but i know that i wont be able to wait until 6 months Blush glad i am not the only one.
i am thinking of buying one of those combined steamer and blender things that are especially for making baby food. asda have an avent one online for £50. anyone ever used one?

nicnacinoonoo · 07/08/2010 10:45

just checked on the website and it has been reduced to £30 now. will do a link in case anyone is interested.

Stinkypinky sounds like you had a brilliant night! Eilidh has been up late every night feeding and feeding and feeding! Last night she was crying alot when feeding and just wouldn't settle. Think she was sore from wind and teething. I can't wait to wean eilidh. Have a few recipe books already and my mouth waters when I read them. My dh has just brought the wii fit out and weighed himself grrr! I'm going to weigh myself once eilidh has stopped feeding. I know it'll be bad news cause I feel huge Sad

ilovesprouts · 07/08/2010 19:56

hi ladys my dd and grandson have moved in to a place of there own now oakley is doing very well ,hes very vocal ,he rolls on his side [has done for a few weeks] and hes trying to pull him self up ,he sleeps through the night but my dd thinks hes teething as keeps bitting his hands etc ,hes on 8 oz bottle hes 12wks now but hes always hungry ,shes been told to give him a bit of baby rice but shes been told that many diff storys any advice please

Bettymum · 07/08/2010 20:37

nicnac my SIL had one of those and loved it, she tried to persuade me to get one as she thought it was so good and so easy to use. Instead I used a stick blender and the Annabel Karmel icecube portion things which you freeze portions of food in, and then microwave as needed. I found that worked really well for me and DD so I'm planning to do the same this time.

harverina · 07/08/2010 20:46

Ilovesprouts there will be lots of different opinions on this. Personally I wouldn't give him rice in his milk. Research has shown that babies weaned early can have problems with allergies, asthma etc. I wouldn't think about solids until at least 17 weeks. The current nhs guidelines are 6 months but alot of people still go by the old guidelines of 4-6 months. Not sure if this helps you! Milk should be all he physically needs just now.

nicnacinoonoo · 08/08/2010 09:40

thanks bettymum i have bought one to try. i just boiled last time and pushed through a sieve at first then moved on to blending but found it difficult to blend meat dishes.

ilovesprouts as harverina said, most guidelines say not to introduce solids until at least 17 weeks. is it formula he is on? if so has she tried switching to one of the hungry baby formulas. if he's sleeping through the night then the extra bottles in the day could be him making up for going all night without. Kacie is on 8oz bottles but doesnt always have them all, she is 18 weeks.

ilovesprouts · 08/08/2010 14:50

yes hes on hungry baby milk 8 0z but screams for more 2 hours later

helenwombat that is the reason I need to go back to work...We need a bigger house! I live in a flat at the moment. Eilidh has her own room but our living space is tiny so next year we plan on buying somewhere bigger. I haven't been spending much money either recently but had been shopping alot until a few weeks ago. Weighed myself and have gained 4lbs...thats a total of 9lbs since I gave birth Confused. My c section wound looks like its infected again. Getting it swabbed tomorrow. Fed up with it. Desperate to properly excersize. zeeky how is george getting on in his own room? Eilidh has been in her big cot for a while now but its in our room. My dh thinks we should move her into her own room as we disturb her when we are getting into bed at night. My dh's grandad died today so its been a sad day.
ilovesprouts I am breastfeeding so not completely sure what to advise you, though I would probably just feed on demand. It may be that your dgc is going through a growth spurt just now. How long does he sleep for at night?

nicnacinoonoo · 09/08/2010 08:27

sorry about your dh's grandad harverina

Kacie's been in her big cot in her own room for about a month now. she has slept loads better like that, so glad we did it early on before she could get attatched to being with us. just hope she stays as good at going down at night.

Neeko !! There is hope! I got out of bed before Romy woke on Friday morning and made up a bottle, gave it to DH and went out for a walk, when I got back the bottle was empty and they were having a cuddle.....I took the chance that she would be at her hungriest at that time and it worked, she grizzled a bit but once she started she was quite happy.....so I took the chance and went to the hen night on Saturday, it was totally awesome and although I only got an hours sleep due to dancing and chatting I felt so re charged when I got back.
Romy guzzled the bottles quite happily in my absence and was absolutely fine. So so happy and relieved. I had to keep coming off the M6 to pump in the car (!) and got a bit engorged but things have settled down now and Romy latched back on to me with no hassles.
We sold out tiny flat finally last week so have been looking at houses! Its great but you can get bugger all in Edinburgh...may have to move out to the sticks a bit...... will be worth it to get Romy into her own room and get some bloody sleep!

ilovesprouts · 09/08/2010 20:02

he has his last bottle about 9pm till 7-8am

harverina · 09/08/2010 22:35

ilovesprout , I think that if he is sleeping through the night this would indicate that he is getting enough calories during the day Maybe your DD could speak to her HV just to double check. Research has shown that babies under 17 weeks can't digest solids at all so I would be very wary of putting rice in his milk just now.

Jennysbean, thats great news about Romy taking the bottle! You must be ready to party so relieved.

Had a very stressful day today but it was all my own fault. Went to the shops and forgot to take changing bag. Had repacked it this morning and walked right past it on way out...as soon as we arrived at shops Eilidh pooed all up her back and round her front. At the same time she decided that she was starving (she hadnt fed well before we left) and started to scream so I had to carry her (covered in poo) round the shops so that I could buy nappies, clothes etc...when I finally went to feed her after changing her I realised that I had forgotten my bf pillow - I find it really hard to feed without it. So feeding became stressful and uncomfortable. I felt so guilty for being so disorganised Sad. I was sweating by the time we left M&S cafe.

Hope you are all well. I only got 4 hours sleep last night - not because of Eilidh, I just couldnt switch off, so I should really get to bed now!

harverina · 09/08/2010 22:36

readytoparty!

Zeeky · 10/08/2010 04:05

haverina you have my sympathy. It's the worst feeling in the world when you realise you don't have any nappies & they've done a massive leaky poo! I've been caught short a few times with DS1 - gone to someone's house without the changing bag & then had to come home as ds was in such a mess! I now carry a spare nappy & wipes in my handbag for emergencies :)

ilovesprouts · 10/08/2010 09:02

she would not put rice in his bottles ,someone told her to give him a spoon of baby rice

Bettymum · 10/08/2010 09:25

harverina you poor thing! I had a similar thing a few weeks ago, but not as bad - I just forgot the spare clothes. Luckily I'd just bought some bits in 3-6 month size, so had to put Alexander into those. They were flapping about a bit, but at least he was clean Grin.
sprouts a friend of mine started giving her DS a spoon or two of baby rice at about 4 months, so a month older than your DD's baby, as he was waking in the night hungry, and it worked for her. But as I say he was a bit older. I think I would stick to the milk...but I speak as someone who started to wean DD at 6 months to the day, I know some do start a little earlier.

nicnacinoonoo · 10/08/2010 11:09

i used to leave nappies and wipes in the car too in case i forgot the bag, will have to remember to put some in there again. Kacie hasn't had any poos that bad yet but i remember them from Ajay. Shock
Kacie's been in 3-6 month clothes since she was only just 3 months. Ajay was always way behind the stated age for clothes but looks like Kacie's going to be much bigger.

i've had a really crappy nights sleep the past two nights too. Again nothing to do with Kacie, just been too hot in bed and awake most of the night. dont feel too bad though so maybe i got more sleep than i imagined.
