Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

Hey ladies,

Sorry havent been around its been so hectic with new baby and older DD that needs lots of organising for school etc. I had DD Phoebe on the 8th may in the end but said i would stay with April as thats when she was due.

Am also BF and giving a bottle in the early evening about 5 o clock she then BF about 8 and goes through until about 3am however i am finding that although she feeds well she wakes again at 4 and then again at 6, so i am going to bed at about 9 so that i get a good 6 hrs before she wakes.
I dont know why but i am worried about my milk supply i dont seem to be quite as full at the moment and i worry that i am not producing enough for her also when she feeds in the day she doesnt spend a very long time on the breast before she is finished, is this normal as she was feeding for quite in the first 3-4 weeks. she is nearly 6 weeks now.

anyway best go dinners nearly ready. will catch up more later on hopefully.

Neeko · 16/06/2010 21:24

Hi all. Hope you're all ok. Things are pretty good with me. H still won't take a bottle but is otherwise pretty good so trying not to let it stress me. She is sleeping quite well at nights though still waking twice for a short feed.

Does anyone else find the nicer weather makes it all a bit easier? At least my huge piles of washing can be hung out

Jennysbean · 17/06/2010 20:21

Hi,
I have not been on for ages either but good to hear how you are all doing.
Romy is doing fine, she is super chilled and easy to read so that is a blessing. She is going to bed about 8 and waking around 2 to feed then again around 5 so I am pretty tired, have had a few nights of her going through till 4...more of those please!!
She had her 8 week jags today, have not heard her cry like that before
She has been pretty sleepy since so managed to hang out with DD1 in the sunshine outside our shoebox flat.
DD1 has been up and down the last few weeks, she is 2 yrs and 4 months and I think it is classic tantrum time!! they are pretty impressive, she has been better the last few days and I had a good day with her today.
Have my first night out on Saturday - going to theatre with my Mum soooo looking forward to it! Romy will take a bottle from her Dad but only if she is in her bouncy chair. It was a relief that she takes one now as totally refused for a week. So she should be fine on Saturday......fingers crossed
x

harverina · 17/06/2010 22:59

Neeko, its great having such fantastic weather...although my housework suffers as we egt up, get ready and go out!

DD's fontanel is still stressing me out...its sunken alot of the time. I dont know how sunken it has to be to be worrying. She is peeing alot and pooing as normal so my Dh is telling me to stop worrying about it, she is also bright and alert most of the day.

Weighed DD myself end of last week as HV has been on hol. She gained 9oz in 12 days and dropped to 25th centile which has worried me. I prob shouldnt have weighed her as it says in the guidance in her health book that she should not be weighed more than monthly as this causes unnecessary worry about weight gain! HV coming on monday so hoping that she has gained again. Anyone else got weight gain worries? Is 9oz in12 days enough?

nicnacinoonoo · 18/06/2010 08:33

im sure as long as she isnt losing weight then it is fine. kacie has been on the 25th centile from the start, she's not been weighed since her 8 week check though (11 weeks now) missed the baby clinic this week so just going to wait until her next set of jabs next thursday now.

lineky · 18/06/2010 09:24

Haverina I am sure if she is gaining it is fine and 9oz in a week is similar to Hazel. I am lucky as hazel still has a full head of thick hair so i can't see her fontanelle to worry! Still having tummy troubles but she seems a bit more settled - HV says nothing to worry about but have to give her some water which she seems to like.
Jennysbean I am off on my first night out tonight, not to exciting - work leaving do. BUT I go back to work a week next Thursday . Its only for 2 days before the summer hols (I'm a teacher) but it still feels horribly real.

OP posts:
harverina · 19/06/2010 23:13

Thanks for the advice - Im sure you are right about weight gain. See HV on monday so DD will be officially weighed then.

Lineky, sorry to hear you have to go back to work so soon...but glad to hear you'll have the summer hols. Makes me realise how lucky I am to be having the year off.

Hope you are all enjoying this fab weather! DD has been a bit unsettled due to the heat - not feeding great during the day as she falls asleep on breast and then wants to feed more early evening when my supply is slow!

Think I have worked out why she has been sick alot...seems to be after I have had large amounts of milk, like in a bowl of cereal. Trying soya milk for now to see if it really is a milk intolerance.

Snowtiger · 20/06/2010 16:38

Hello ladies, I've finally returned to MN! Taken me 10 weeks to find the time and remember where the link to this thread was but finally found it - will catch up on the posts and everyone's news but just wanted to say hi - typing one handed while feeding Wilf! Hope everyone's doing ok

Bettymum · 20/06/2010 18:57

Jennysbean my DD is 2 and 4 months and she is also just starting the tantrum stage...the funniest thing is that she starts, and then announces "I having a strop" as if we hadn't noticed . Sometimes it is just "I having a little strop." That's OK then.
We are all fine, Alexander's rash is all faded so will just have to watch him after his next jabs. He is big and fat and lovely and already looks like a rugby player. I have told him he is not to grow up and be a footballer, watched a bit of the England Algeria game it was so boring, even the commentators seemed bored.

rumpleteaser · 20/06/2010 21:44

Hi everyone, lots to catch up on here. Haverina how's your scar doing? Mine is ok, it's been just over 8 weeks now and still a little tender on the inside. I also get trapped wind a lot now but the outside is ok.

Valentin has got into a poo routine of every 3rd day, in the afternoon, and I have to take his nappy off. He doesn't seem to like doing it in the nappy. Every 3rd day he gets grumpy and restless and unsettled until he's done his poo. I think plenty of water helps too.
He's also been on Aptamil since the beginning and everyone keeps telling me it's the best milk. People seem to have less problems with it.

It's not been below 35 degrees here for the past couple of weeks, so I'm hoping to sweat away all my excess baby weight!

I also have a fist sucker/chomper here, he too spits out dummy in favour of his fist, or the side of the pram! I keep looking for signs of teeth, can't see any though.

The Bulgarian word for 'suck' is 'smoochie'! I like that!

harverina · 21/06/2010 22:00

Hi

rumpleteaser scar is healing now. I still have a hole and have district nurses coming in every second day to pack and dress it. They were coming in every day until today but they think that it has healed enough to leave a day in between. I had no pain at all after C section...was up and about quickly with no pain at all - I thought I was lucky It isnt really sore anymore, but I am desperate for it to heal properly. I miss lying in the bath and swimming! I have lost all the baby weight but I was fat before I was pregnant so need to get swimming again!!! 35 degrees?! HOT! Does Valentin cope ok with it?

DD is also a fist chomper! We havent used a dummy but she is loving her fist these days. Hadn't even thought to look for teeth!

Hi snowtiger, I havent mastered one handed typing yet - thats why Im always on here at night! DD is in bed now between 7.30/8pm every night and sleeps for up to 9 hours beofre waking for feed. She is a star.

Hope everyone is well. Just heading to bed to read my book, bliss!

harverina · 21/06/2010 22:03

Oh and thanks to you all for weight reassurances...DD was weighed today and was 11lb14oz, a gain of 11oz in 12 days so I was elighted. Going to wait 4 weeks before next weigh in this time, otherwise I just worry!

Zeeky · 22/06/2010 04:20

Wow Haverina - 9 hrs of sleep in one stretch! That's the stuff of dreams for me. George still not going to bed until after 11 o'clock-ish feed & will then still wake between 2 & 3 & again at 5.30ish. Although tonight has been better as only woke at 4 (I'm feeding him now, hence the tim of my post!). He's 7 & half weeks. Really hoping he starts going longer at night as I'm knackered!

pillia78 · 22/06/2010 12:58

Helloooo all, had a quick flick through some of the posts and great to see everyone doing well. Elliot is 9 weeks this Thursday and can't believe how the time has flown, He has really settled into our family and we all adore him my 2 year old DS2 is soooo sweet with him and there hasn't been any blatant jealousy... yet! He is totally bottlefed now after a long battle with a tongue tie and trying to breastfeed, it wasn't severe enough to have snipped but seriously affected feeding, he is my first bottlefed baby and went through a stage of feeling horribly guilty but to be honest he is so much happier and formula these days is so good. He is on the 50th centile now which is a shock as my other two boys were teeny weeny and some of his clothes are 3-6 months!!!! Had my first night out last week and only had 3 drinks so was very restrained!

harverina · 22/06/2010 21:21

I know zeeky, its brilliant. She will sleep for between 7.5-9 hours from roughly 8pm. I should be going to bed with her but I end up doing stuf around the house in the evening. We were doing an 11pm feed too but DD was so sleepy that we dropped it and we found that she was still able to last until her during the night feed. We have a really good bedtime routine now..feed, bath, feed, bed. Think that this has helped. Last night DD was in bed just after 8pm and she woke at 5.20am. Back to bed at 6am and up at 8.45am. zeeky do you waken George for the 11pm feed? Is he taking a decent feed when he wakens between 2and3? Think that my DD started sleeping longer at night around 8/9 weeks. She is now 11 weeks. She is still feeding every 2-3hours during the day.

Pillia, I have my first night out next Thursday. It is only a meal with friends but I am hoping to have a couple of drinks. I'll still be getting up during the night to feed DD so cant have any more than that. My first REAL night out is at the end of July...did anyone feel nervous about going out and having a drink? I am worried in case I am needed and I have had a drink...not that I'll drink too much, but just in case!!

Hope you are all well...can I just say thanks to you all for your support. I'm so glad I found this thread. Just wish Id found the ante natal one!

Zeeky · 23/06/2010 06:56

Thanks for the tips Haverina. DH gives George a bottle of either formula or expressed breast
milk at the 11pm feed. Some nights he wakes up for it & other nights he has to be woken for it. He currently feeds at roughly 4, 6 & 8pm during late aft/evening & sometimes is awake that whole time or will nap in between. Some evenings he is really sleepy and sleeps really soundly after his 8pm feed & other nights he is really unsettled all eve until that last feed. Although he developing a rough routine of feed times during the day, nights are still pretty random!

This is our DS #2. DS1 was much more difficult during the day with no routine of eating/sleeping until he was 6 mths & would only ever catnap for 20mins at a time which was a nightmare. But strangely he was good at night going 8 or 9 hrs at a time between 8 & 5 or 6 from about 6 weeks old.

I should just be grateful that George is an easy baby in the daytime & hope that the nights get better over the next few weeks.

nicnacinoonoo · 23/06/2010 08:41

Kacie is 12 weeks tomorrow and has her 2nd lot of immunisations. it does seem to have gone really fast. i think it must go faster with your 2nd or more child as you're still busy doing things with your first. Ajay starts school in september so we've been busy with trips into the school for taster sessions and what not.

harverina · 23/06/2010 21:06

Zeeky, my DD doesnt sleep that well during the day. She has a nap in the morning for half an hour-an hour, about 2 hours after waking but sometimes that is the only nap she has. In the past week she has started to settrle better for an afternoon nap, but not always. However, she is really content when she is awake as long as she is full!

pillia78 · 24/06/2010 16:59

Harverina enjoy your night out and don't worry!! If anything happens I am assuming you can get a taxi home? I breastfed my other two so couldn't drink for the first few months and this time I only had a couple as a hangover with a 10 year old, two year old and a newborn is NOT fun!!

Bettymum · 24/06/2010 20:39

I had a night out on Monday, it was great except although I'd left DH plenty of expressed breastmilk, I'd totally forgotten to tell him where to find any bottles, so I had a panicked phonecall from him with a screaming baby in the background, not much I could do from 30 miles away. It was all fine in the end, which was good.
DD has come down with chickenpox, I didn't even realise that she had it, I thought it was heat rash, but she was sent home from nursery this morning. Now every time I look at her there's another spot, it's in her scalp and her fanny which looks really really sore but she doesn't seem to bothered. Hope she doesn't give it to Alexander since he's still just so small.

Neeko · 25/06/2010 08:38

Bettymum Get Allerief and aqueous cream with calamine in it for your DD. Baby should have immunity from you if you've had t.

Sorry for brevity of post, feeding and typing with wrong hand. Hi to everyone

Bettymum · 26/06/2010 09:07

Neeko thanks for that, I was wondering if Alexander would have immunity from me, I had it when I was about 7 or so (many many years ago ). DH bought the acqueous cream yesterday, it seems very good. Spots look a little bit less angry today, as yet no spots on Alex .

HoopsAndBaby · 28/06/2010 12:18

Hello ladies,

Just popped in to say hello and Ben is doing very well indeed, he is now 12 weeks old and sleeps through the night which is fab

we are still EBF and he now weighs in at 13lb 14oz, he is a little milk monster!!

Does anyone go to Baby Sensory? We did a trial session the other day and Ben loved it, so I booked him on a course of 6 sessions

Everyone sounds like they are doing fab, I love being a mummy but am looking forward to going back to work soon, but finding a childminder is quite hard work!!

harverina · 28/06/2010 22:26

Hoops, hi! thats great that Ben sleeps though the night...when did he start this? My D is EBFed and was 12lbs14oz at last weigh in last week. She is also 12 weeks old. At the moment she gets her last feed around 7pm and is in bed between 7.30pm/8.15pm. She sleeps until roughly 5am. At 5am she takes a pretty big feed. We are usually up for about an hour. What was Ben's pattern before sleeping all night?

Hope you are all well. Weather has been rubbish here today. Went for walk which was good but its now raining! Looks like I'll need to get my jeans out for tomorrow !!!

HoopsAndBaby · 28/06/2010 23:58

Before he slept through he would wake at around 2am and 4am, but he was a very efficent feeder and would only take about 15mins start to finish.......He started sleeping through the night from 7 weeks, at first I thought it was a fluke and would only be for that night but he has settled into this pattern, 7pm feed, 7:30pm bath, then bed with mobile on and he is normally asleep by 8pm, he wakes at 7am and I fetch him and feed him lying down in my bed and we both nod off until about 9am. The worse thing was my boobs took a while to adjust but now they are alright I don't wake up with sore boobs at 2am!!

I know I'm very lucky to have such a good boy and count my blessings every morning
