Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

Wow Hoops, Ben sounds like a dream baby!

George stills wakes at least once & usually twice in the night but is otherwise very good. We've been giving a bottle of ebm or formula at 10ish, but have come to the realisation that if I breastfeed instead at that feed then he tends to longer before waking only once at 4 instead of 2 & again at 5. I think it's because he only takes about 3oz from the bottle before falling asleep & must get more from the boob! He weighed 13lb 12oz at 8 weeks (91st percentile!!)

We're in the car on our way back from a weeks holiday in Devon. It's been lovely & both our boys have been good as gold. George was so good on the beach. We had a large UV beach shelter which I fed him in & then he would lie on a blanket in it & go to sleep for a couple of hours. It was great as meant I could build sandcastles & paddle with ds. When we were out & about, he went in the baby bjorn carrier. They're actually surprisingly easy to take on hol at this age, but with ds1 I found it stressful leaving the house let alone going on holiday!

harverina · 02/07/2010 22:53

Sounds like you had a great time Zeeky - UV beach shelter sounds brilliant! Where did you get it? We have booked to go away for a week in September, but only to the north of Scotland so doubt I'll need a UV shelter for this hol!!

Helen my DD isnt rolling over yet but she tries all the time. She hasnt worked out that her arm is in the way yet, so she gets very frustrated. She is now 12 weeks. She isnt great on her tummy, so try to give tummy time as much as possible but she doesnt like it at all!

DD still only waking once in the night. We are in a good routine now - 8pm bed, 5am feed, back to bed at 6am and sleep till 9am-ish. Feel more human now that Im getting more sleep!

Hope you are all well.

Mistymoo · 04/07/2010 18:11

Harverina where abouts in North Scotland are you going? That is where I am! I'm going on holiday in September too but we're going abroad with our extended family so hopefully there will be lots to help with ds.

My ds is not so good at sleeping through the day. He cat naps and it's hard to get things done but on the plus side I do get a good sleep now at night as he generally will sleep from about 9.30 until anywhere between 4 and 6 so I feel that is quite good.

We have had no word of his further scans for his kidneys and so I may phone his consultant tomorrow to see where we are with that. It is difficult to know if the pain he seems to be in is because there is a problem or just because he's a baby!

Everyone seems to be in a routine except me! I don't have a routine for when he feeds in the day - just demand bfing and as I said his naps during the day are very unpredictable. Never mind he won't be a baby for long so I'm taking it as it comes as much as possible.

Bettymum · 04/07/2010 20:01

Misty if it's any comfort I'm not in much of a routine either. The HV asked me when I was feeding DS and I said ummmm when he's hungry. I don't think it matters as long as you're happy and the baby's happy. He does seem to be absolutely worn out by about 8 o'clock every evening though, which I find quite funny as it's not like he's had a strenuous day. Maybe it's just hard being 12 weeks old. My brother is off on hols to Lewis next week and I am , we were going to be going to Cape Wrath in May which is where my grandmother's side of the family is from, but we didn't go in the end, last time I was there I was 13 so I'd like to go back.

lineky · 04/07/2010 20:16

Hi all. I am recovering after my strenuous 2 day return to work. It was all a bit bizarre and at points hard but we managed. I now have 6 weeks before I have to do it for 'real'.
Things are going well here. Daytime has a routine - her's!!!
Most nights she goes down from 8ish till 4. Others though its 9 till 1 but these are fewer now.
Glad to see so many folks holidaying in Scotland - Onich and oban for us this year

Hi all...helenwombat Jude can be the same with pulling off the boob n going tense..Ialso find that sometimes he just doesn't seem towant to feed from me, it's normally when he's restless n hot n bothered, he can get in a right grumpy mess!! Sometimes I find he just needs a good burp, followed by his plug (dummy!!) n a good old cuddle, or if i think he's still hungry i'll offer a bottle of milk. I'm combining bottle and boob, but have just started expressing and freezing my milk for the hospital for prem babies..got 24 ozs so far!!
Jude had his first proper lil chuckle today..he's been very nearly there so many times, but I think he's still got to have a bit more of a burst yet lol. Things going well here as well...no real routine, keep saying i need to get back in one but not managing yet!! Hope everyone else is happy n doing well xxx

stinkypinky · 04/07/2010 21:48

Just been camping... in Scotland. Feeling rather proud!

Billie has been sleeping from 8pm to 6am most nights for the last 3 weeks, so very grateful. She is just fab. Still EBF, and lovely and chubby.

DD1 has been very challenging (just turned 4) and I find that very upsetting. Sleep apnoea not helping her I am sure - still awaiting Paeds review.

Well done Princess for donating milk

nicnacinoonoo · 05/07/2010 07:51

Kacie feeds at 7.30 when we get up in the morning, then 12, 4, 8 then around 3 or 4 in the night.
she has little giggles and squeals now. no rolling over yet though. but then i dont put her on her tummy much as she doesnt like it either. her neck seems very strong though and doesnt lag back at all when you pull her into a sitting position. she doesnt like being left on her own and knows when you leave her on her own in a room now. luckily she's quite content having ds entertain her so i can still get things done.
she's started dribbling a lot and her poo has gone runnier which i think might be teething related. doesnt seem to bother her yet though thankfully as i know it will still be a while before she actually gets one.

Bettymum · 05/07/2010 08:40

Princess wow on the donated milk! Do you know if all hospitals take frozen milk? I always said with DD that I'd donate milk if I had another baby, but I haven't done so...not sure when I'd find the time in the day with DD around but it would be nice to do it.

stinkypinky How was camping? If we have a nice few days we might be going camping. Was it difficult with a baby? Where did she sleep? How long did you do it for?

Sorry for all the questions but my dh thinks it'll be fine but it'll be me that has to get everything organised etc!

stinkypinky · 05/07/2010 10:07

Misty - only one night about two miles from home, but the first time DH has camped since he was a scout, and first time for me with kids.

New tent too, so a bit stressful at times, but at least DH could not disappear like he does at home, so had his help and company.

Billie slept in her pram body (silver cross sleepover). No room for wheels in car. Not big enough really as she kept waking herself up by hitting the sides. Will take travel cot next time. She slept in vest, gro, gro-bag and blanket, and was cosy but not too hot.

I slept between her and DD1, so not much sleep had by me - kept checking them both (was terrified baby would freeze) I was cold so am buying myself a better sleeping bag for next time (wednesday for 2 nights)

Baby was easiest of all to be honest, so go for it I feed her, which helped greatly - if she was bottle fed I would buy ready made formula and cold water sterilize.

Next time DD1 will be in with Daddy and I will have Boo in with me as travel cot is much bigger. It took a bit longer to settle them both, but they slept a lot later due to fresh air. DH and I got up at 4.30 and stayed up chatting. Twas nice!

Neeko · 05/07/2010 11:46

Hi all. We're off on holiday tomorrow. In Scotland too.
Not in a strict routine here either. DD2 sometimes goes four hours between feeds during the day, sometimes an hour but is generally only up once between 8.30 and 6am so I'm happy.
Still no joy on the bottle front but have decided just to let it be for now.

No rolling over here, but almost sitting and lots of smiles and shouting

Mistymoo · 05/07/2010 19:26

Thanks stinkypinky. Sounds like you had a good time. I bf too and I think it is another example of it being easier if you are able to do it. We will be going with lots of friends so hope it will work out ok.

PrincessTweetz · 05/07/2010 22:22

Thank you stinkypinky xx
Bettymum..not all hospitals accept it, I live in Coventry, and have to take it to Birmingham hospital. Not sure how to do a link, but if you can copy an dpaste the address.... www.babyworld.co.uk/information/.../donatingmilk.asp ..... it gives you a list of hospitals that do accept it. You will have to have a blood test as well, but there is no set amount you need to donate..any amount is good. They will send out the bottles (well, I'm assuming it will be the same but for me this is what happens) and you freeze your milk, and as it has a shelf life of 3 months, I've been told to take mine after about 2 1/2 months. xx
Jude's been really sicky today It's only milk, and it's not particularly hot today, so hopefullly he'll be back to normal tomoz. Nicnac Jude's got a strong lil neck as well...he doesn't really like it on his tummy either, but if i can get him while he's not grumpy(!!) I can get about 2 minutes of him on his tummy lifting his head up very nicely...he's also pulling his neck up slightly when he's in an semi upright position too..can't believe that about a year ago, I was only just pregnant!!!! xx

harverina · 06/07/2010 22:01

Hi all, its so good to read that you are all experiencing pretty much the same as me and my DD!

misty, we have no daytime routine either and I am lucky if DD naps at all. I put her into her cot about 2 hours after she first wakens and she will normally sleep for anything up to an hour (sometimes ten minutes though!). Some days she wont sleep again till bedtime. We have no feeding routine during the day either - for a couple of weeks she was waking at 9am so we did start to get into a wee routine where she would feed at 9, 11.30, 2, 4.30, 6.30 then bed, but this week she has been waking at different times every morning.

We are going to Aviemore. Have been lots of times and there is lots to do so thought that it would be an ideal place for our first long holiday. We have been away to Aberdeen before as DH has family up there. That was for 4 days.

Nicnac and princess, my DD doesnt like her tummy either - I posted a thread about it a couple of weeks ago as it worried me. I have a Gina Ford book (I know, I know...!!) and the baby at 3 months was totally upright on it's front and I got really worried. My DD can oull her head up when on her front but not for long and she gets pretty upset. On the plus side, she is great when in an upright position. She can hold her head up no bother.

helen I went to Tasmania in July about 10 years ago, I loved it - it was only three days in Hobart but I wish I could go back and see more. Re CC, we didn't try doing that with DD till she was about 8 months, and that was only because I was going back to work and didn't want to be up every night. It was a bit painful but actually it worked very quickly, within two or three nights, and I don't think she hates us for it .
Alexander has his 12 week jabs today, I'm really nervous about him developing that non-fading rash again so I'm feeling a bit shaky this morning. The appointment's at 10 so at least I can keep an eye on him for the rest of the day then. He was weighed on Monday, and weighed as much at 12 weeks as DD did at 19 weeks! So at least he's big and healthy.

Zeeky · 07/07/2010 10:02

Hope Alex's jabs are better this time bettymum. George had his 8 week ones on Monday (a week and half late as we were on hols). Poor thing was asleep when the nurse stuck the needle in & it was such a shock for him that he cried for about 10mins which is unusual for him

I think he has eczema. It started as a red rash when the hot weather started, in all the places where he sweats & all over his chest. I thought it was just a heat rash & hv agreed. But now the red spots have gone but his skin feels so rough & bumpy & dry. I've been smothering him in olive oil but it's not making much difference so think I will ask hv if there's a cream we can get on prescription. Ds1 had it as a baby which he has grown out of but I don't remember it being this bad. He's being christened in a couple of weeks & I so wanted him to be looking his best as we're having a massive do at my parents' so he will be on show!

On a good note, he slept through from 11pm until 6am - that's the best he's ever been at night

rumpleteaser · 08/07/2010 13:04

Hiya everyone! hoops I also feel very lucky with my lil' man - he sleeps through from 8/9pm til 6/7am, he has milk on waking and sleeps for another couple of hours! I keep thinking it's too good to be true but has been this way for about 2 weeks now!
Daytimes have no routine really.

I was also a bit concerned about 'tummy time' but glad to see other babies seem the same as Valentin. He doesn't like it. He lifts his bum and feet rather than his head and then cries because his nose is squashed!
He rolls onto his sides and waggles his way round in circles in his cot though! Like hands on a clock! Every time I wake up he's facing in a different direction!

Everyone seems to be in Scotland! Happy holiday everyone! Anyone not going to Scotland, come to Bulgaria, it's gorgeous and sunny!

ReneRusso · 09/07/2010 19:36

Matilda hates tummy time too, infact she rolls over on to her back.
It's so hot here in London, she's feeding far more regularly and her head feels boiling. I've tried to give her some water to help her cool down but she doesn't want to know.

nicnacinoonoo · 10/07/2010 10:23

Kacie really likes drinking water - strange baby!
she also does the moving around like hands on a clock thing.
i have added some more pics of her on my profile. cant believe its been 3 months already. i have just managed to get back into most of my old pants. they're still a bit tight, so still got a bit more to lose but i am much happier now. hope everyone is having lovely hols.

Bettymum · 13/07/2010 08:40

Zeeky, Alex's jabs were fine this time, thanks. But...he has developed chicken pox after all, looks like it is much milder than DD's, he only has a dozen spots or so, and he seems happy enough. No moaning about wanting more pink cream every other minute and wanting to watch television on the sofa all day .

harverina · 13/07/2010 23:10

Oh bettymum thats a shame that alex got chicken pox. But does that mean he is unlikely to get it again? Hope you are all well. Dd is 14 weeks now and is just wonderful. She is such a happy smiley baby. We have started going to a breastfeeding group now which we both enjoy. Its lovely to meet other mums and to be able to ask any wee questions. Feeding seems to be going well still though so i'm delighted about that. This week my dd has been out of her usual routine. She has been upset going to bed and wanting to feed all night. Think its been a growth spurt. She was in bed at 8pm tonight though. Think that her gums are sore. Anyone else think this?
