Good day Ladies.

Tink I hope I was discreet enough about your initials. Are you able to add me as a friend?

Lenni Argh on not being able to get home... what about train? It said on the news here that some flights may start running again to Scotland by tonight... which is already tonight for you guys on that side of the pond. I forget sometimes there is a an 8 hour time difference. lol

My CT scan was a breeze this morning... not even 10 minutes. Won't hear from the doctor till later next week.

Well, must get butt in shower as DD will be up soon from morning nap. Ciao for now

Evening

Sorry folks, far too tired and preoccupied to read. Have tried to read the last few posts though.

Have had some truly horrendous nights this week so am running on almost zero sleep. Combination of insomnia, dd teething and a poorly dog (not the really poorly one).

Had to call my Mum to come and take the boys off my hands this morning, as I really had had enough. Have had a thread in allergies and one in special needs about ds1 and how badly the reintroduction of gluten has hit him. Lots of good advice from lovely people and we have basically decided to take him off gluten again as there is no way we/he can carry on like this until July. One or two people said they felt it was more important to get him tested, but they don't have to live with a hyperactive, over emotional, volatile eight year old who is distraught at starting to wet the bed again, has awful digestive problems and has started hitting himself repeatedly in the head (hard) if anything upsets him, or with his brother who has told both myself and dh on separate occasions while sobbing his heart out that "I don't like ds1 any more, he is mean and spiteful and hurts me all the time." and that from a child that has always idolised his big brother.

Anyway, sorry to be on such a downer. On the upside I am pretty much organised for the party, other than decorating the birthday cake and baking the cupcakes.

I have just been sitting here trying to get my head around making a space shuttle cake. Trust ds2 to ask for something really complicated. I think I have a rough idea of what I'm doing, but am a bit worried about what the end result will look like. I also have to bake a huge batch of fairy cakes which are going in silicone cupcake holders with feet and are hopefully going to be turned into aliens.

Right, must run. Have to feed dd and my curry is ready.

Sorry for the me, me, me post - again.

hugs moosey! off out for the night, pat have a good one and lenni OMG! see if you can find some fatayer and some pastilla. they are yum!

teaandcakeplease · 16/04/2010 21:52

I've seen the list booksgalore but there's more names on there, than I see on this thread, I don't want to request to be friends with people who don't have a scoobydoo who I am, as I'm new to this thread

Does that sound silly?

Off to bed in a mo as shattered.

Sorry to hear about difficult week Moose Probably a relief to take DS off gluten again, even without diagnosis. Poor thing.

Hope the cake goes well.

hackneyzoo · 16/04/2010 22:03

Just checking in...Tea if its any help you can friend me, my initials are Z W then you can see on my friend list who is from MN!

chefswife · 17/04/2010 05:32

Tea I'm LF.

Moose Hang in there girl. Escape in the cake making.

We had another knackerer of a day. We did some shopping and went swimming. I've been getting DD to walk lots too, which really slows down the day, but it tuckers her out. Now that the weather is nice too, she can go out on the deck in the morning after breakfast and play... the deer came by today and she went crazy! lol 'Deer, deer' pointing and laughing. I'm just loving this age... so much fun. I said to DH, this is when couples start thinking about having another. lol Actually, poor DH is only getting oral goodies right now because I don't want another potentially Xmas baby. I don't think he really minds.

teaandcakeplease · 17/04/2010 09:19

Morning

Got an official letter yesterday saying ds has been put on the waiting list for ASD assessment by the specialist team, but that the service is oversubscribed and they will contact us nearer the time. I read on their website that you can ring to get a rough idea of timescales, so rang straight away, but the woman is away until next Tuesday. According to the school, they have children who have waited 18 months to be seen. and

Then this morning we got a letter pushing back his coeliac test appointment to August when we away are on hoiday. So that's sort of decided things for us.

We are going to call the gp for a telephone consultation next week, as apparently they can order the blood test and if they are willing to get him tested at the end of May we might struggle on for for a few more weeks. There would still the possibility of a false negative though, unless he eats mammoth amounts of gluten from now until the test day.

Dog, in one sense diagnosis isn't that important, as the only treatment is a gluten free diet. On the other hand, true coeliacs are at risk of developing conditions such as osteoporosis and bowel cancer in later life if they don't stop eating gluten and in some cases the immune response is so severe that they can't have even any cross contamination of food, so need separate cooking utensils, chopping boards or pans etc and food has to be stored completely separately from the rest of the family's food. Unfortunately, our house is so tiny we wouldn't really be able to have two sets of everything and separate storage, I struggle to store enough pans etc for the family as it is.

So, ideally we need to know if he has true coeliacs or just a sensitivity compounded by leaky gut as it has implications on how we manage his diet and the home environment.

Chef, sounds amazing having deer coming right up to your house. Dd sounds like such a sweetie.

Have to go and ice the cakes now - am feeling very nervous about how this one is going to work out. Ds2 has BIG ideas!

My initials are KM on the fb group list. I'll try and have a look and add those of you who have given me yours another day.

Lovely afternoon at the farm with Grandpa, apart from dd's hysterics over the geese, chickens etc. As it prevented her from even enjoying the ponies, as the chickens were everywhere on the farm

Need to make some tea for me and maybe watch some tv tonight

Hope the cake was well received Moose, waiting to her all about it later Will ask your tips for making my dd's cake, closer to her 3rd b'day.

Moose Its nice to have the deer around, there is a lot of them, but they are turning into a pest actually. They devour your garden. Daffodils are the only thing they don't eat and even then, the little ones will, testing them out. They are also breeding year round now and because we live in a forest area turned suburbia, all the cougars and bears have moved up farther into the hills, (we get the occasional sighting) so they have no predators. Apparently, you can hunt them in off season with a bow and arrow, in your backyard! I'm thinking they are so docile, I could walk up to one with my chef's knife and humanly hit the jugular bang on. I'm going to get some quail this year. There's hoards of them as well. We have lots of bats, hawks, resident eagles, (hope to see babies this year as the ravens got them last year) and ravens, which are 2 feet tall crows... they're massive and cunningly smart. There is also a resident owl, but I only hear him at night, never seen him. We have rats around here to but nowhere near the size that I experienced in London... they are the size of cats! Hope the cakes turned out... little ones imaginations go on forever, then we have to figure out the logistics, eh?

Must go... DD wants to play ball.

teaandcakeplease · 17/04/2010 22:51

Chef I am very very of the wonderful place you live!
