Hello - how are you all? HAve not had as much time as I'd have liked to post recently. Keep losing connection so a short post, considering the ones in recent evenings have disappeared upon posting ! Hope you are all well - will try to catch up properly tomorrow, as there's only two of us in the office and I haven't got much work yet - hurrah!!! Better get back to the coughing and puking DC's ...

snowmama · 09/03/2010 09:00

psst.. it's 'me' !.. (check fb)... recently moved up north etc..name changed because things with (STBX)H are not great. He is getting very aggressive angry..and threatening to sue for residence (not custody..thank MOS from another conversation!).

I now am completely confused as what to do next.. as currently he comes up at the weekend and stays at our house which is very stressful for me, but the kids are happy.

sorry, all me, me, me, i havent read the thread at all so will go back and catch up.. apologies if I have missed important news/updates..

TulipsInTheRain · 09/03/2010 09:54

Hey snowmama... so sorry to hear things with soon to be ex are unpleasant I hope it all gets sorted asap in a way that makes you happy. Remember we're always here and on FB if you need to rant/chat

dinkystinky · 09/03/2010 11:58

Hi snowmama - lovely to see you on (am guessing at who you are) - sorry to hear you've had such a rough time - and are continuing to - with your soon to be ex. I echo Tulips in hoping all gets sorted soon for you.

Glad MOS's legal knowledge has come in handy for you. Had an email from her via FB and she's having trouble logging on to MN - hopefully she'll be back soon...

STW - glad all going well with new job. Sorry to hear you have the cough/vom bug at yours - we have it too. Not much fun is it...

psst... dinky, A's sleeping throug the night any luck with Danny? We had to close the door on the cat unfortunately as it was 50/50 whether she'd cuddle up with him or wake him up jumping into the cot but she'll get over it and the few nights of being snuggled by her seemed to teach him how to resettle himself without fussing.

dinkystinky · 09/03/2010 12:26

[grr] Tulip - serious going on here. The poor monkey was sick all over himself yesterday afternoon then awake on and off all night and up at 5.20 this morning crying for a feed....

OP posts:
TulipsInTheRain · 09/03/2010 13:20

poor danny... and especially poor you. Keep faith though, it's amazing how quickly A went from awake half the night to sleeping through with no interferance from us at all (although dp had started threatening CC it was getting so exhausting)

I'm sure he's going to wake up at 2am and be ready for the day now because i opened my big mouth

snowmama · 09/03/2010 13:21

thank you ladies.. you have made me feel better on a blue day! DD is good at sleeping through the night it is DS who wakes up regularly stilll.. i have been longing for just one 8 hour stint!!

dinkystinky · 09/03/2010 13:47

Glad to hear your lovely little lady is sleeping through Snowmama - gives me hope that Danny might do too at some point before he leaves home

Could it be that the recent-ish move and other upheaval is effecting DS's sleep and he's waking lots for reassurance - does he have a comfort object/toy/nightlight you could give him? We use the kidsleep bunnyclock and a funny nightlight (that DS1 can hold and sleep with - he's going through the scared of the dark phase) called "Pabobo" for DS1 and that helped with his night waking/wanderings alot. Am sure DS will settle down soon as soon as things start settling down for you.

If you want cheering up even more, it will amuse you to hear that Danny's sock chewing antics have now moved on to trying to chew DH's (thankfully clean) stripy socks this morning - while DH's foot was in them. The child really is part puppy at times...

Snowmama - great to hear from you and so sorry to hear things are a bit rubbish up north. How is the job going? Sympathy on the night wakings too.

We are up and down all night at the moment - between DD and DS they have had D&V and coughs and colds that just won't go. Sam makes himsefl sick every evening through coughing. Can anyone recommend anything? I have his humidifier on (although that was in DD's room last night because she was coughing so much) and offer drinks, but is there any medication? The GP last week said just a virus so no AB's, but I just want to help the little fella!!

I'm loving having extra time at home with this new job - I take the DC's to the childminder and get back around 8.30am, then don't have to leave for the office until 9.20am!!! Imagine all the jobs you can get done without interruption (apart from DH that is)! Can definitely let the cleaner go now, which is just as well because cash is a bit of a problem at the moment. We are really having to make cutbacks, and things like getting a babysitter for this weekend are becoming a problem. Ho hum, things will improve when we are not paying for 2 lots of childcare I'm sure.

Off to get my first personal accident quote now for some volunteers off to Haiti.....

Take care everyone and catch you soon!

dinkystinky · 09/03/2010 17:05

STW - you have my sympathies. I have to admit on bad coughing (but not vomming nights) I have given small doses of Medised to DS1 (and once to DS2) as in the pre-raising age days of Medised my GP told me it was more effective for them than cough syrups. With DD you could try manuka honey too - brings some relief. Am not entirely sure on honey for Danny and Sam though - know they're over 1 but their systems are already compromised and they are vomming due to it...

I'm basically raising one end of Danny's cot (and true to form he always decides to sleep at the other end - if I raise both ends he sleeps in the middle, contrary child ), using snufflebabe and calpol on Danny - no nurofen when he is vomming as not great on already upset tummies. And giving him lots of water...

i've not been able to get onto mn at work...anyone else having problems? i asked our it dept if it was something they'd stopped access to for some strange reason but it wasn't that.

dinkystinky · 09/03/2010 21:12

Had a couple of problems with MN last week when there were IT glitches but otherwise is ok KBN.

Hope everyone is good this morning and that your little darlings/toddling terrors are well.

MrsY · 10/03/2010 11:02

Hi all. Dinky, thanks for the avice re: bottles, think we're going to stay as we are for a while yet.

Having a shitty day here, my uncle died this morning, and so I'm having to be in far greater contact with my father than I'd like. He wants M and i to go and see him tomorrow, I didn't have the heart to say no, but I really don't want to be sucked into that mess again. Then I feel guilty cos my cousins and their kids have just lost their dad/grandad, so I feel bad for being hard on mine. I'm off to see my gran...

Catch up with you later.

dinkystinky · 10/03/2010 11:09

OH Mrsy - I'm so sorry to hear your news . Sending you big hugs and strength to get through this sad sad time - and hope everything will be ok when you see your dad.
Feel free to come on here to rant if you need to.

OP posts:
SweetTalkinWoman · 10/03/2010 14:19

MrsY - bigs hugs to you. Unfortunately my Grandpa also passed away this morning . He was very old and bedridden, but he was my last remaining Grandparent. We were supposed to see him last weekend but didn't cos the kids were ill.

My Grandpa was called Derrick, and my Dad (his son) is Deric. My soppy brother posted on Facebook "RIP Deric Wood" (ie my Dad) and my poor sister in the USA read it this morning and had the shock of her life. I've also had a couple of friends call with condolences. At least I already new the correct news.

Thanks for the coughing tips Dinky - I'm also not sure about the honey on the little ones. I think things are improving because neither of them were woken by their coughing last night (or at least I didn't hear them!).

Am sitting on the bathroom floor while DD tries out her new toilet seat - the "potty" training was not going well so we're giving the loo a go..... Wish us luck!!

america · 10/03/2010 19:48

So sorry for your loss STW and MrsY. Virtual hugs.

Both boys have had a cold for a few weeks but seem to be better now. But two of my friends have just called to say that their children have chickenpox!! Just waiting now to see whether my boys have it too.

BTW, does anybody know what is the best place to sell used baby stuff? I have loads of reusable nappies, BN cot mattress etc. so ebay doesn't work for this and no replies from netmums ad either. Would you pay £15 for a BN foam mattress still in plastic (paid £39 a year ago) or is it too much?

swampster · 10/03/2010 20:32

Sorry about your losses MrsY and STW - @ your brother, STW.

Mumsnet For Sale boards can be good for all sorts but you have to pay your fiver for a year's CAT.

Cloth nappies (depending on the type) sell on Mumsnet, Cloth Nappy Tree, The Nappy Site, Used Nappies, Natural Mamas, and there's a Yahoo group out there somewhere and a few other places - UKPL... I'd post links but I'm KNACKERED and, 13 months in, I've got mastitis for the first time with this DS.

dinkystinky · 10/03/2010 20:51

Hugs all round to MrsY, STW (sorry for your loss too - your brother sounds like a bit of an idiot though! Bet he got the ear bashing of his life!!) and Swampster (though not hugging too tightly as dont want to squash your painful boobs - hope you recover soon). What a horrible day.

Hope your little ones avoid the dreaded pox America. £15 o.n.o sounds reasonable to me! Have you tried gumtree to post ads on?

swampster · 10/03/2010 20:54

Every time I crawl into the office I think of you, dinky. But I'm never there long enough to do lunch. I'm in and out, five hours maximum and catch up with the rest at home with the brats little darlings.

McDreamy · 10/03/2010 21:00

Aw really sorry for your losses MrsY and STW . My nan is in hospital at the moment and I really don't know if she's coming home she looks terrible

Has anyone's LO had toddler diarrhoea? A has had diarhoea since Saturday now. Took her to see the GP this afternoon who has put it down to toddler diarrhoea post infection. My other 2 never had this (that I can remember). Poor wee thing is passing loads of really vile wind and bright yellow explosive poo

dinkystinky · 10/03/2010 21:13

Oh well, at least am in your thoughts Swampster Sending some virtual medicinal brandy in your direction..

McDreamy - Danny has had that. Horrible really pale stinky poos - started off liquidy and then solidified as he got better after the bug - but stayed light and stinky for a good few days (a week or so) post bug. Remember - potatoes, banana, bread - all good, cut back on dairy and will help her digestive system recover. Bless her.

McDreamy · 10/03/2010 21:24

Thanks Dinky I will follow your advice! It's horrible for them isn't it ?

snowmama · 10/03/2010 21:25

hugs to Mrsy and STW who have had sad losses, I hope you are bearing up. Swampster I hope you feel better soon..ouch!

I am also knackered today...clearly one of those days!!
