Cartoon network is on so I have a few mins of MN time.

DS1 has had an inset day today so its just been me and him. We've been making lego vehicles all afternoon and he is still fiddling with them. Its been nice as he would usually want to play on the Wii or the computer all the time so the lego marathon is quite a change. He's been lovely all day so its a nice end to my ML! R's been in nursery so its been good just being me and DS1 for a change.

febes gah for your night. How are you feeling now? Bet your eyes must be on stalks. Hoping for a better one tonight for you.

pula am so glad that your CC has worked. You sound so positive about the changes, its lovely to hear. Amazing what just a few quality hours of sleep (S and you!) will do! Keep at it.

R is much better. We've had a couple of good nights here recently but not so good in the last 2 or 3 so once he is completely over his cold, you've given me the inspiration to give it a go

Headless I'd absolutely agree with you regarding your in-laws! I can also think of more deserving groups of people than lost revellers on a Saturday night. Do keep us updated. As for work tomorrow, good luck! It is officially the first day of my return to work today, but I'm on leave until the 5 April, hurrah!

febes I am throwing virtual sleeping tabs your way.

dandy I'm not sure what to say, really. I think she is bothered about taking your DS for 1 day in case she finds someone who wants more. My DS used to do 1 day with a CM and she always said to me that she'd give notice if she found someone to fill more days. She also tried to tell me that he'd never settle there with just 1 day, but he was fine. I hope it works out.

Off for a run now, I'll be back!

runningmonkey · 22/02/2010 18:20

Evening all,

Just grabbing 5 mins while DH does bathtime again. The last few days have been manic and very sleep-deprived.

Fi hope you all are better soon, sounds horrid.

PILs my MIL told me (note, me not me and DH) off for choosing the wrong type of flooring for our house as it means that A isn't crawling yet. However, DH told her about mumsnet so from now on I will only be saying how wonderful she is

febes hope you get more sleep tonight

headless I am 24 hour behind you and will be back in work on Weds.

llare have a good run - we haven't been out in 2 weeks now as everytime we try to go out it is either snowing or so icy we'd need skates. Must try harder

dandy I agree with llare re your cm. Hope you've recovered from the sleepover from hell. I meant to say your DD is lovely btw (well she would be with you for a mum ), I enjoyed chatting to her on Friday. Hope she has a lovely birthday this week and that you survive the party.

jael hope you are feeling better too. DH and I both had something that sounds v similar over Christmas, feeling sick all day but not actually vomming. It lasted about 48 hours.

Well my 5 mins has run out, so hi to everyone else I haven't managed to namecheck. I definitely won't beon later as I have to do some lesson prep for Weds

HeadlessLadyH · 22/02/2010 19:19

running do you feel at all prepared for your return? I'm not sure I do! I'll prob be on here all day as I don't think I'llhave much to do on my return. We run our own case load and it will take a while to get back to where I was.

dandy at least your Cm will have DS for March and like you say, it could be easier for her to have him whenheisone. I put that in bold as when I read that it suddenly dawned on me its not actually that far away!! Anyway, hope it all works out. Doesn't stop you from looking for something else though in the meantime, maybe?

llare good work on the running. How far are you going? Its impressive as the weather is so rubbish. Have you had more snow?

fi sorry the lurgy has got your house. Hope it improves soon.

Right better go and check on suit and yikes, knee highs!!!! Now they are sexy items of footwear. Not. I'm not even sure I have any for tomorrow.

llareggub · 22/02/2010 19:53

I'm back! Headless it is far too cold for me to run around the streets! Not only is it too cold, I am seriously in need of winter running kit so I am currently training in the safe (warm!) gym. When it gets lighter and warmer I am going to run around the jogging trail on the golf course. At the moment I am doing 4k on the treadmill and am on week 5 of the Bupa couch to 5k programme. I love it! I am getting seriously addicted and I have promised myself some fancy new kit at the end of March.

Knee highs aren't they also called pop socks? I wear them too...

work it took a good 6 months of part-time to get back into the swing of things last time. I went out with my work colleagues last week and one of them told me quietly that she doesn't think that there is enough work for us all. So I do wonder if I'll get to the end of 6 months this time before redundancies are announced.

febes how is R today?

Jael I thought pregnant too...

Belgina I can't believe your au pair was worried about not being busy enough. Does she have many siblings?

pula how is the sleep training going? I may have to pick your brains on it if it works well for you. Things not good here in the evening!

Reggiee cherrytom hello!

ses how odd of your mother. I must say that mine is also odd when it comes with the DCs. When she babysits for my brother she sits downstairs with no TV or radio for the entire evening in case the 7 and 5 year old wake up and want something! Perhaps she is a bit nervous, do you think?

sausage bonjour!

fi how is the wii? Are you pleased with it?

flippinegg how is your little banshee today?

febes · 22/02/2010 19:58

Headless and Running Good luck with starting a work in the next few days, I'll be thinking of you.

Dandy Sounds like your CM might be hedging her bets. If you really like her then use her in March and look for other options in the meanwhile. She could be more trouble than she is worth.

MILs Mine is in SA and didn't send anything to acknowledge the birth of either of my children- not a card or anything. I had a bit moan to DH that she should at least make an effort on their birthdays if nothing else but still nothing. DH had a bit of a go at her and she sent a huge box costing her over a £100 just for postage . She sent a bubble machine, a huge soft toy, lots of packets of crisps, dried fruit, selections of nuts, chocolate bars, loads of other weird and inappropriate things. It cost her an absolute fortune even though we said (she kept asking us what we wanted) all she needed to send was a card for their birthday or if she wanted a small (and light) gift. I don't want to be ungrateful but I send thoughtful cards and photos of the kids etc. I sent them a photo calender for christmas so just something small to let them know we are thinking of them. The whole thing is now.

Well we have had an ok day considering the bad night. R has diahorea and has had 3 complete changes of clothes today. DD has been a bit more whingy than normal but they are sleeping now so hopefully they'll be ok tonight. I double checked DDs nappy so we don't have a repeat of last night.

runningmonkey · 22/02/2010 20:49

Hiya,

Am hiding in the spare room pretending I am working so thought I'd sneak on before I have to go and be sociable with DH

(I have actually done my work though!)

Headless I am about as prepared as I can be bothered to be tbh. I have lost my lesson planning mojo totally. Am hoping one day back with inadequate lesson plans should set me right

febes Sorry but lol at the bubble machine and packets of crisps.

Oh and I'm all systems go on the pop sock front and I got some as a Christmas present from MIL this year. Lovely

pulapancake · 22/02/2010 20:51

febes- £100 postage for sending a load of stuff that can easily be bought here .

llareggub- well done on the running programme. I have signed up to run the race 4 life in June which is 5k and i haven't done any practice yet as it's been rubbish weather including snow ATM. Sleep training seems to be going well, if a bit slowly, but definite improvements. I will be cracking open the champers if he ever sleep through . Of course, now S is sleeping better, DS1 has us up in the night instead with a bad cough (already been up to him once tonight). And DD says her tummy hurts too... Just hope i get a good night as DH is in London.

headless/running- hope your returns to work are OK. I am enjoying being back at work, although i like my days off too . How many days are you both working?

hopalongsausage · 22/02/2010 21:02

Siiiiigh hello. Wiiiiine in hand. Fish pie in oven. DH watching tosh-y John Wayne tosh. Moi on here.

Dandy hm re the CM. I'd have a peep at others in the area if I were you? Which reminds me, I MUST sort that out. We were toying with the idea of MIL and my Mum caring for M whilst I am at work for the briefest of (hahahAHAHAHA) 15 days so I don't have to pay back my mat pay, but I'm not so sure now that I am convinced that MIL chugs coca cola and sweets down M's maaaaaarf to hype her up. Hm. (we still have the teddy clock with the wonky eyes up - DH said that it is 'accidentally going to break' in the move.

Hm. Giving up work. Am I doing the right thing? Really? No money of my own anymore. I'll be a mummy chez moi. I need an apron. I made a cake the other day..... aaaarrrgrghhh.

Am going to Liverpool for a work advisory board and conference which I'm talking at Wednesday and Thursday. Swanky powerpoint ready. Company informed of handouts to print (my latest publication, natch) Am only going as I'm getting paid extra. However, all this talk of pop socks has brought me out into a cold sweat as I have no idea what to wear. I don't think leggings will go down well. Shit. (DH is taking the days off to look after M before anyone asks!)

Headless - good luck tomorrow! Let us know how it goes! PLUS am V interested re the OAP police training saga!

Weird re the grandparents doing buying of stuff. I don't expect a thing at all. My Mum might do the occasional 'ooh I got this, if you don't like it, just say' and has a toy box at hers with mostly my old fisher price stuff in and stuff that my nephews had which M can generally chuck around at the dog when we go there. MIL. Sigh. That wonky winnie the pooh with the slightly barbie doll-esque sticky out-y arms at wrong angles is a recipe for a creepy nightmare.

Btw. Sexual secrets thread? Eh? Not me. HONEST!

youngerthanspringtime · 22/02/2010 21:04

hi all.
finding it difficult to get online lately and here it is, my last week of freedom before I go back to work. I'm afraid, once I'm working, I'll never have time to be on MN or FB. we'll see.

ladyH and running, best of luck as on your return to the professional world. I agree with Dandy, in that I miss working in a professional office where I could dress up a bit to impress and feel good about the way I look.

Dandy, not much to add to the others' advice on CM. Do what you're planning and go for the one day. interesting, llare, about children not settling for one day. H will be doing one day of nursery starting April, I'm a bit worried about whether she'll settle ....

Febes/Fi, hope you're all better.
food's arrived. will try to be back on later to catch up with everyone else.

belgina · 22/02/2010 21:04

Hi everyone.

Not sure if I'll be able to namecheck everyone. You've all been too chatty

febes Also lol at the bubble machine. Amazing how mums sometimes just don't get it. Mine doesn't. If I ask for a token something for the dcs or something it also turns into something huge/inappropriate/wrong size/something they wont ever play with in a million years, etc...

running headless Work Can't believe it's there already for you guys.

Talking about work clothing. I phoned the uniform dept this week as instructed to see if I can collect it and it turns out they've lost my request . So now I've had to get the forms signed all over again etc... What a hassle. Now I've got to phone tomorrow to see if the juggling has worked.

llare Still in awe of your running. Couldn't do it

dandy How annoying about the CM. I'd say any business is better than no one. Don't really know what advice to give. If you really like her, then hopefully you can come to some sort of agreement?

How are the other sickies? fi You're feeling better yet?

C seems to be getting back to normal again already. She's off solids, but has kept her last 2 bfs down. Hopefully she'll be better tomorrow.

hopalongsausage · 22/02/2010 21:05

Oh and Fi am so sorry you are all poorly. Sounds like you are all doing the right thing though. Hope it passes soon. (with hospital gown and surgeon's mask on)

Dandy I loved your DD too. I still have the writing she did for me. Mostly numbers and some x's which she said are kisses Aaaah. She also said I reminded her of a friend of yours. Someone beginning with R. Hope they are nice.....

FISH PIE!

essenceofSES · 22/02/2010 21:17

knee highs - I confess to wearing these with trouser suits for work too Infact I often wear flight socks if I know I'm going to be on my feet all day!

Dandy - thanks for asking. I have actually only done one day so far (last Thurs) and start properly this Friday. Friday should be ok as I'm catching up with the girl that's been covering me and visiting a couple of stores and Saturday I'm covering a store as pharmacist in the morning. Monday will be annoying though as I have a meeting in St Leonards (near Hastings) which is about 90min drive from here/nursery.
Pro bono work sounds like it could work well for you. Hope CM works out.

LadyH - good luck for tomorrow

Running - get you, all prepared! (even if it is as prepared as you can be bothered to be - still prepared!)
Also "wrong type of flooring" PMSL!!! (and )

Fi - poor G. Having met her, if she's not smiley I'd say she's definitely feeling ill

Pula - sounds like your work/home balance is working pretty well (encouraging for the rest of us about to return!)

Llareggub - v impressed with your running, especially in this weather!

Febes - £100 postage for that ??!!
Hope you get a much better night tonight

essenceofSES · 22/02/2010 21:22

Aagh! Knew I'd cross post as it took me ages to concentrate on that last one (wine open here too!)

younger - I'm thinking FB and MN may need to review their staffing levels when I got back to work... And as for keeping up with my farm

Belgina - glad C is doing better now

"saus* - FISH PIE

flippinegg · 22/02/2010 21:24

Evening all!

Wow, loads to catch up with, will do my best.

headless - hope work etc goes ok.

llareggub - your running sounds great, well done. Thanks for asking about my little banshee! She's been much better today, went to the CM as is normal for a monday but was in a good mood this evening with no bed time tantrums. Long may it continue.

dandy - you've had lots of good advice re CM. DD1 went to our CM 3 days a week when I was working, now I'm on mat leave she's only going one day a week and the CM warned us that if anyone wanted a full time place then she might ask us to leave. I'm not sure what we're going to do when I'm officially not working at all, we'll have to review the cost, and mybe pre-school would be better son. Who knows?

I finally had an email from my boss today with the form I need to fill in for my career break. I was worried about the deadline, but I've got until march. best bit is that I'll get paid for all the holiday I've accrued, it'll be a nice lump sum!

A had her swine flu jab this morning, she's had the egg free one and I've managed to get her referred to the paediatrician about her reaction to egg. She was fine all day today, but has been unsettled this evening, hopefully the night won't be too bad.

flippinegg · 22/02/2010 21:29

febes - bonkers about the parcel from SA!

hope all the D&V is much improved.

youngerthanspringtime · 22/02/2010 21:37

Hi to all I've x-posted!
ses, I've given up on my farm.
