morning all. well, last night not too bad: H and dd2 slept through without a peep(still sleeping), dd1 up 'just' 3x (split betw me and DH). we've told her if she sleeps through she gets a Princess magazine she saw and wanted. we'll try again tonight.

pula, glad S is better and hope ds1's cough gets better soon.

belgina, about DC's shock at C's mobility. H isn't moving quickly yet but somehow does make it slowly (on her bum) towards DDs' toys/clothes so that they are surprised when they see her holding one of their things (gets snatched away quickly).

was a quick post, got 2 in the bed now and must get dressed before H wakes up. I've got to surrender the laptop to bbc iplayer waybuloo.

pulapancake · 01/02/2010 10:32

Morning all,

Thanks for the advice Tummum. Fortunately DS1 stopped coughing/honking around 11pm but was still "off" when he woke so i got an appointment at the GPs. GP wasn't sure if it was croup or a chest infection as he had a slight weeze, so prescribed ABs in case it was the latter, but as DS1 was very perky and chatty he said to wait and see how he was later and only start the ABs if he gets worse. And if he gets a croupy cough he also advised steam treatment. So we'll wait and see tonight.

Well night 2 of "sleep training" was a bit of a washout last night . S woke at 11 so I fed him and we went to bed. At 12.15 he was awake again so DH tried for 45 mins to settle him. He said S would go to sleep every 15 mins or so, but then deliberately rouse himself, so he gave in after the 3rd time. So I fed him at 1, and when he finished he pulled off and drifted off to sleep straightaway on my lap. But then i fell asleep myself before putting him in the cot . I think he then had 2 more feeds before morning . Oh well, we will see what happens tonight.

runningmonkey · 01/02/2010 13:29

Hi All,
Sorry not been on all weekend, A has been really off it, think its just that she seems to have about 4 of her top teeth all coming through together so we've been back to two-hourly waking through the night and mega-velcro-baby the whole weekend which wasn't great seeing as DH had to work all weekend after a crisis at the office.

Sorry to those not feeling well themselves and to snotty/poorly little ones.

spangle and pula sending you both positive sleep training vibes.

emmabemmasmom so lovely to see you back and glad to hear things are going well for you.

I have also been wondering about Jael I know her DP was having an operation so hope she is coping ok.

tum exciting news about your business opp.

bf I saw the gmtv thing too. I thought that woman who was anti- extended bf looked like she was really uncomfortable sitting next to a baby. Amazed to read she used to be a MW. Some of her comments were ridiculous. I kind of wish I could have fed A for longer but given we were mix feeding her anyway it made sense to stop before I went back to work.

... talking of which. My boobs seem to be back to 'normal' now (3 weeks since giving up bf) so I went to John Lewis to get measured yesterday - have gone from a C to a DD DH is pleased I am a bit annoyed though because it means that all my lovely bras are going to have to be replaced

I'm slightly of all you with mobile lo's. A has been threatening to crawl for about 6 weeks now and is quite good at going backwards but is getting v frustrated with herself by not being able to go forwards. Not sure if I've mentioned this before but since being able sit she also seems to have forgotten how to roll over

Been out for a mammoth walk in the sunshine this morning. Think I managed about 3 miles before stopping at the baby clinic to get A weighed (who is 8 months this week and is 17lb14oz).

Sorry, am wittering. A is asleep so am enjoying a little bit of me MN time

essenceofSES · 01/02/2010 14:04

running - witter away, I normally do

Jael - if you're lurking, please pop on and let us know how things are!

EmmaB - great to hear from you. We're not FB friends (may hunt you out!) but I know you've been having a rough time of it and glad thins sound more positive.

Pula - mixed results with the sleep training then but that's better than 2 rubbish nights. O is always worse when he's teething or under the weather so it may be that. That goes for you Spangle too. A couple of months ago I never though O would be routinely waking just once - he was spending all night in bed with me. Now he's got through teething of 6 teeth, his sleep is transformed.

flippinegg · 01/02/2010 15:09

Please can I be excused from name checking? I had my wisdom tooth out this morning! It wasn't actually as bad as my doom-mongering dentist said it would be, but it does hurt a lot. DH has got the day off to look after the girls (well, A - DD1 is at the CM today) and he's just gone out and taken A with him. He's going to buy me rice pudding and soft cake!

Feeling sorry for myself, sorry!

runningmonkey · 01/02/2010 15:34

Right. Am back after an hour of whingeing mega velcro baby who has finally gone back to sleep. Poor A is obviously so uncomfortable but nothing is helping at the mo. She's even turning away from her usual favourite cold teething toy

Lol ses maybe we could be competitive witterers? Sorry that you have been ill. Hope you are feeling better now. Wow at O's standing skills.

Ouch flip glad you are being looked after.

Meant to say earlier belg I feel your pain re the high maintenance napping. No sensible advice though sorry.

belgina · 01/02/2010 16:05

Hi everyone,

flip Glad to hear your wisdom tooth removal isn't as bad as you anticipated. I must say everyone I know that had it done said it's quite painful. Talking about teeth. I finally made it to the dentist today. It's not looking great for that tooth and she'll try and repair it, but there's a good chance it might not work. She's also going to give me a bite guard because I've damaged my teeth grinding them in my sleep. Not looking forward to receiving that contraption, but at least it'll be for free

running C had the same: all 4 top incisors at the same time. She was also a nightmare, but now they're here and she's much better. So there's light at the end of the tunnel Oh and re: bras. I bought this expensive really beautiful a month before my PFP with ds. I kept it for 'after the baby is born', but sadly I never ever got back down to a B cup ever again. The smallest I got down to between dd1 and C was a 32D. Still a good excuse to go bra shopping

younger Yay re the good night.

ses norovirus... Nasty. But they do say that providing you stick to rigorous hand hygiene bf lo's don't catch stomach bugs, because they get protected by the BM.

Not too bad a night here too. C woke at 2 and 6. I'm convinced she's genuinely hungry. I tried to just cuddle at 2, but she woke again half an hour later and yesterday was the same. Normally cuddles work when she wakes if she's not hungry. She's still not eating all that much in terms of solids though (unless it's a baby biscuit ), so I presume she's catching up a little in the night.

Oooh, quiet here. My mouth is still quite sore. DH is supposed to be looking after me but now seems to have whatever I had on Friday!

youngerthanspringtime · 01/02/2010 23:39

wow, it has been quiet lately. thank good ness not too much to catch up on.

I've been out for a book club (I hadn't read the book ) and now relaxing back home MNetting whilst I finish my tea, wondering when dd1 will start her waking spree.

speaking of teeth, flippin, hope you're mouth is feeling better soon.

books, remember VC Andrews anyone?

OK, that's one caught running through the hall at 11.30pm. dd2. fast asleep. just scooped her up without a word and tucked back in.

dd1 will be waking up soon.
sigh.

FiByTheIcySea · 02/02/2010 08:24

not had a chance to catch up yet.. I have the urge to make G some clothes and have been surfing patterns and fabrics on internet.

just popping on to send get well soon vibes to all the poorly..

busy day ahead so prob won't make it on much before tonight..

momino flowers in the attic.. yes!

belgina · 02/02/2010 09:26

Morning all,

Busy day planned here too. Including a pampered chef evening. Looking forward to it, it'll be nice to do something grown up, but not looking forward to the buying stuff bit. There's one thing I need, but other than that I haven't got any money, so...

Hope everyone is well and that the teeth, both adult and milk are behaving.

febes · 02/02/2010 09:36

Morning!
Feeling blurrrrrrrrrrr here. I had diarhea(sp) and vomitting last night. Just the once but I woke DD so DH ended up sleeping in with her. R was also up a few times as he has a hacking cough and he ended up in our bed. Could be a long day. I have zero energy. I have tutoring this evening too. Hopefully I'll feel better by then.

Younger I loved VC Andrews books as a teen. They were always the same with a family ripped apart and a tragic child then bought up in different circumstances and then they find out their true identity and have already fallen in love with thier brother or something similar. Loved them. Flowers in the attic was her first I think and best by far.

muddleddaizy · 02/02/2010 11:57

Hi there, just popping in quickly. Having trouble keeping up with ds2 crawling everywhere. Now he's discovered the stairs, he climbed 1/2 way up the other day (with me close behind!) and now he's worked out how to open the stairgate . Time for a new one I think!!

Febes & Flippin hope you feel better soon!

Spring saw the Dr today and she reckons my abdominal pain is just my body getting used to having the coil in! Hope it gets used to it soon!!

Right off to feed my super smiley ds2

febes · 02/02/2010 12:48

I have offered to do a few supply days at my school although I am offically resigning. They have accepted my offer but I had to send my resignation in straight away. So it's official I'm a free woman apart from the 2 kids of course .
Will be nice to work the odd day here and there on my terms.

On a very note, my friends DH dropped his DS round this morning as I look after him sometimes and I had my trousers on inside out . I blame it on being ill in the night. My DH of course didn't notice this morning before he left .

flippinegg · 02/02/2010 13:14

Sorry febes but lol at your trousers! Just what I needed to make me smile (carefully), crap day here.

Please excuse me while I wallow - my face is swollen and bruised and hurts! I can't yawn, laugh, smile etc because it's sore. I can't eat anything hard because my whole jaw hurts, so today I have had rice pudding and chocolate brownies .

DD1 is being a pain. She's stroppy, weeing in her knickers - up to 4 pairs today already! - wanting to watch TV all day etc etc and A just will not stop pooing! I don't think it's full on d...oh bugger, can't even spell! Anyway, all she'll eat at the moment is potato and cucumber, so you can imagine.

Sorry, I'll go back to my misery hole, try to come back later when I'm happier!

llareggub · 02/02/2010 13:18

Woo hoo febes! I saw your resignation status on fb and wanted to say congratulations. A big decision! I hope you are feeling better too.

Tummum how is G? Is it CP? Not sure if I missed a post with an update. I hope is getting better anyhow.

Belgina let me know what Pampered Chef is like. I've been invited to one and I am still trying to decide if it is worth sorting out childcare for it.

I've had a busy morning. DS1 has gone off for the day so I've just got DS2 so I've blitzed the filthy hovel that is our downstairs. I have the fridge on my to-do list but I am too scared to open the door because it smells. It has to be done though. I did manage to do the floor which is tedious beyond belief and takes so long.

DS2 has been amusing himself. He was giggling away banging things against the floor. He was so impressed with the noise! He is tucking into some courgette and ham scones that I made yesterday. They are really nice; I got the recipe from mumsnet and they are nice and easy for him to hold.

I rang work today to sort out my return and to remind them to tell payroll that I am coming back at the end of this month. As predicted, my manager had forgotten as I don't actually come into work until April so she hadn't twigged that payroll needed to know. But all sorted now, and I shall be paid at the end of the month, hurrah!

I'm booking a holiday for me, the boys and my best friend and her baby. It will be so lovely to get away with her and have a good catch-up. I'm booking a little cottage for us and it will be a lovely break before I go back to work.

Have a good day all.

SpangleMaker · 02/02/2010 14:02

Hi, just popping in while I wait for my 2nd set of visitors (Dad & step-mum) to arrive. This morning I've had a mum and her 9mo DTs round. They are both so cute!

The last few nights have been awful as H has a cold on top of his teething, or whatever it is keeping him up. Last night went like this:

Bed 7.30, re-settle 9.30 & 10.30
11.30 - very with myself as I managed to wake H up by setting my phone off. Go through an hour-long cycle of feed/cuddle to sleep, down in cot, 10min later wake up crying
12.30 - 1.30 - asleep!
1.30 - 2.30 - similar hour-long cycle of settle, sleep 10min, wake up crying
2.30 - wide awake, bring into bed with me, I manage to doze while H babbles and grabs my face, top etc
3.30 - H decides he is hungry
4.00 - 7.00 - sleep with H on bed
7.00 up for the day

Ooops visitors here, better go!

(sorry for me, me, me post!)

febes · 02/02/2010 15:26

Spangle Poor you!! You must be knackered! I hope H is better soon and those teeth pop through so you can all get some sleep.

Llaregg Thanks! I was alway intending to resign and wrote the letter a few months ago but now it is official sent its all real . The good news is we are nearly ready to put our house on the market. We hope to leave the uk in october so will rent somewhere if the house sells quickly. I am happy to do a few supply days in the meantime but don't want to have to give notice. I only took Stat maternity pay for this reason. I can't wait to go back to NZ now. We have been over here for 9 years now and I only came for a year!! I had a job to go back to and a return ticket and everything. It's going to be a big culture shock and readjustment going back. Especailly for DH as he is from SA and although he wants to go there, he has agreed to come to NZ for me.

I have cancelled my tutoring this afternoon as I feel queasy still and the last thing I will feel like doing once the DCs are in bed is to head out and do Year 5 maths!!! I'll miss the money though, it's my weekly spending money.

Happy Tuesday! lol

Sorry no time to catch up. Potty training DD1 today so my eyes have been glued to her in case something starts to come out lol

Of course she will go on the floor now while I am busy on here...

Anyyyway, just wanted to say hi!

milestones TEETH: S does not have any. I know all kiddies are different but at this age (9months) E had like 6 teeth, was pulling to stand, crawling like crazy, feeding herself ect. S just started to sit on her own. I see two little white bumps (for weeks) but NO TEETH. I was shocked to see she was 9 months on my calendar as she seems more like 5 at this rate lol

Ok, E is squatting and shouting mom so I better run...quick...

runningmonkey · 02/02/2010 16:45

Afternoon folks,

febes how exciting re your resignation, move etc. A good school friend of mine recently emigrated to NZ (married a kiwi). Caused no end of ructions in her family but she is v v v happy and due to have DC1 in May!

dandy hope you are ok. Good you are going to get out to have a chat. Oh and love the way you have put quantum physics, blenders and fashion choices in one sentence

spangle poor you. I am hardly one to offer sleep advice after A's start in the world but one thing that seems to help A sleep when she is teething/snotty is raising the head of her cot a bit - we put a pillow under her mattress. Is your DH helping out too? Can he do a stint of settling so you at least get a block of sleep? (wear ear plugs if nec!)

flip hope you are feeling a bit better this afternoon

belg have fun at pampered chef, good luck with the shopping self-discipline too. I spent a lot of money on figleaves yesterday replenishing my bra supply. Luckily they were all in the sale

ses thought you'd like to know that A has started copying your O and doing the all-fours-headstand-dog-pose thing too

Right better go check on tea. bye for now x

runningmonkey · 02/02/2010 16:46

sorry emmabemma took ages to write my post so didn't see yours. Hi and hope you caught E in time with the potty!

belgina · 02/02/2010 16:49

Oooh, likey the I've often felt the need to use such an emoticon, because lots and lots of things confuse me, but like dandy I'm not actually confused about anything at this present moment in time

I had a nice day here. Was actually a little earlier in the day ,because I went to meet some friends at a certain time today. Got there, knocked, no answer. Looked through the window, empty but light on. Went back to the car, decided that I definitely had it right, went back and tried again. And yes, they opened. Turns out they were in the kitchen and hadn't realised that you can't hear knocks on the door back there. Phew, for a sec I thought I'd driven 22 miles for no reason whatsoever

llare I'll let you know what it's like. One things for sure: it's expensive. at your cottage break BTW. Sounds lovely.

febes How exciting about NZ. It's becoming really close now for you, isn't it? It must feel nice to resign too. For that reasone anyway

flippin Hope your day and jaw got better.

Oh pizza's ready, gotta go, apologies to those of you I didn't get to name check. Ds's friend is here to play so I'm doing a child friendly really easy dinner tonight.
