Happy 2010 everyone! Cast your mind back to this time last year... [soppy]

Too much wine - excuse for thread title should it be shite rubbish when I read it tomorrow. Thought it was time to wave goodbye to the festive one, although perhaps we should have waited for epiphany?

well done tree!

Moose, really sorry to hear of your trauma with ds1. well done for being such a calm and understanding mummy. That is so hard when they just go on and on. and on.

Books, I'm having the same dilemma with H. Think I'm going to do what I did with DD. It involved -a- -lot- -of- cheerios and around £60 worth of Ella k's a month. Fortunately H doesn't like cheerios and Ella k's make him sick for some reason.

I do four feeds a day; first thing, 10am, 3am and 7 (feed to sleep).

I'm currently dropping the afternoon feed now, then in Feb will drop the morning feed, replacing both with more snacks than he currently has. I'm being a coward and dropping the afternoon one first as he usually has just woken up from a nap and has no issues with 'wanting' milk. Any food will do really, as long as it is pear.

I'm going to try and carry on with the morning and evening feeds until at least 15mo. With DD I dropped the morning feed first, and from the second day, she dropped the evening feed herself. I think, in retrospect, that I had very little milk in the evenings and quite a lot in the mornings, so should have dropped them the other way round, but heigh ho. I finished.

hackneyzoo · 20/01/2010 21:06

Evening all, hooooorah Tree for a sleeping H...I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. read your thread and you really have done amazingly well....I would have been drugging myself or my baby months ago...but I am a lazy slut mummy Hope you get some zzzzzzs this evening.

120...I have the green light for a friday night pint....now where shall we go?...The Approach maybe or somewhere on B'way market...hmmmmm...its been a while since I ventured out into the world!

Moose, hope DS1 is ok this evening.

Pat, are you snowed in again?

Books, that thread you linked to was fab, chuckled myself to sleep last night after reading it.

Lenni, is yer back any better?

Tink, thats great news on the standing front.

Can't believe jude is going to be one tomorrow, I just sat him on my lap and made me promise to let me kiss and cuddle him even when he's 20, he said 'Of course Mummy!' so that's all good . I have been vaguely domesticated and baked some fairy cakes for tomorrow and written happy Birthday Jude on them. I am going to attempt a dinosaur cake for his little gathering on Sunday....hmmm...slightly nerovus about that.

Am off to find my birth story and cut and paste it onto here.

hackneyzoo · 20/01/2010 21:15

Weep weep! I just read the old thread, awwwwwwwwwww....so here's my birth story....

According to his scan DS was due on 14th, but according to my LMP dates he actually arrived on time on 21st? so not sure if he was overdue or not?

So on Tuesday morning I went to see the acupuncturist, who, handily, is also a midwife and she also gave me a sweep and let me know that my cervix was thinned and effaced so I should expect some action soon.

Took DD off swimming and felt periody and crampy all day. By the evening I was getting mild contractions, but wasn?t sure if they were BH or not, had a nice clary sage (will not be missing that smell) bath to keep things going and polished off the last of the raspberry leaf tea (will not miss that either). Got DP to blow up the birth pool anyway and put BIL on standby for babysitting duties should they arise.

Went to bed having mild contractions 6/7 mins apart, by 1a.m. they were 5 mins apart but n ot really painful. Managed to get some sleep, but by 4a.m. could no longer sleep through them.

I rang the delivery suite and the lovely community midwife rang back and said she?d be round soon. Got DP to fil up the birth pool, stuck the tens machine on and BIL turned up and went off to sleep in spare room.

When the midwife turned up she did an internal and couldn?t work out how much I was dialated as I was completely constipated?(TMI), when the second MW arrived shortly afterwards she found I was 4-5cm and did another sweep to keep things going.

So I bounced on my birthing ball, chatted to the MWs and DP and used the tens to full effect. It really took the edge off the contractions and I think I only got up to the top of the first level out of 3. Found kneeling over the back of the sofa with my arse in the air helped too! Had completely forgotton about the gas and air until the midwife mentioned it, hated it last time?.loved it this time.

Got really into focusing on my breathing this time around and mooed my way through the contractions whilst sucking away on g and a!

Things were getting pretty painful by about 8, so I got into the birthing pool, which was amazing, it just took all the weight away. DP went off to give DD breakfast and pack her off to playgroup. I was completely zoned out, and so in my own space, I didn?t really notice he wasn?t there.

The midwives sat in the background, a student mw turned up at some point. They monitored the baby?s heartbeat regularly, but were really non intrusive.

By 9am was finding it hard to cope, DP was holding my hand as I mooed and mooed and tried to keep focused on the task in hand, my waters burst in the pool and I began to feel the urge to push..

The second stage was really intense, but not as painful. I just felt the power of the contractions surging through me as I pushed, the water really took the edge off, and the mw told me to look down, there was my baby boy coming up between my legs! I was aware of the incredible animal noises I was making but it didn?t seem like they were coming from me iyswim.

DS cried straight away and we had a cuddle in the birthpool and I handed him over to DP as I got checked out. Ended up with 2nd degree tear as I pushed him out quite quickly, got stitched up as I fed DS. MWs cleared up and did all the checks. I scuttled off to our bed with DS and a cup of tea, not quite believing what had just happened.

DP went and got DD from playgroup, she popped up, jumped up and down on the bed, said ?Hello baby!? and ran off downstairs like it was an everyday occurrence to have a new baby in the house.

Lenni · 20/01/2010 21:24

OOoooh, can you lot please put warnings up for birth stories - I am now sobbing again [happy] love the bit about DD HKZ - that really got me weeping. What is it about birth stories and tears? (of the wet not ripped variety, ouch!)

Happy Birthday J - hope tomorrow goes well in other respects too.

Back is ok in that I can function but pretty rubbish on the scale of things iykwim. I have a fairly high threshold for pain since my arthritis makes pretty much everything painful but this is a new kind of sharp horrid pain which I don't like too much.

hackneyzoo · 20/01/2010 21:36

Lenni, if its any use to you I have a heat pad (the kind you plug in) sitting here in a box, it was my mum's as she had bad arthritis, but you are welcome to it. Its in very good condition and hasn't had much use.

Soccerette · 20/01/2010 21:50

HKz- lovely to read birth story. I can JUST about remember what happened in mine, so will post later in the week.

So i am trying to get back up to speed on whats going on.... I see dog you are expecting again... (sorry to hear of bleeding, fingers crossed for you) anyone else??

Tree- saw pictures of a snoozing H on Fb. Brilliant. Hope you get lots more tonight!

Rrrrayray · 20/01/2010 21:54

I'm back to Ray!

Gumps · 20/01/2010 22:02

It has taken me an HOUR to catch up but that includes tree thread too. Another yaya for you tree. HKZ wow what an awful awful weekend. Poor poor J. You get in there and fight them all the way until you get what you want and if you don't get it we will all go!
Moose poor ds head. Hope he is ok. Bless him for admitting to the cake.
Still no AF but 2 more negative tests.
DH away tonight and only just rememebred as was expecting him to walk in form training. Best go ring him...

PatTheHammer · 20/01/2010 22:08

Awwwwwwwwww HKZ....That bit about DD just made my eyes fill with tears, they are so 'knowing' like 'yeah, i knew the baby was gonna look like that and stuff so I'm not surprised in the slightest!'. So lovely, you did really well too, coped really well, but like me did lots of moo-ing. Happy B'day for tomorrow little J-man.

Oh, and yes, heavy snow this morning meant school closed and DH couldn't get to work but by 10am managed to drop kids off and crawled into work for 2 hours then came home. DH got in about 11am after giving up at half 7 and coming home for a few hours. Strangely, you wouldn't know any of this had happened looking at the roads this evening as it turned to rain and washed the whole thing away. I am just so sick of the stress of getting into work, for the first time in a long while am considering relocating from the cotswolds..............they are pretty but they DO MY HEAD IN!

Soccer.......Dog is duffed up and Tree's egg has made another couple very happily expecting. Not sure about Gumps but she is trying and might be. Sorry, divulging everyones darkest secrets now

Moose- your poor DS!!! Sounds like you coped well, gold mummy star for you

120- I was gonna drop morning feed first as this is the briefest one currently, would you not advise this? Wasn't going to do it for a while though, kind of want it to be his decision, but he could well be close to starting school before that happens at this rate!

Books- Not sure about shoes as Z loves his, he has a slight obsession with them (especailly putting them in cupboards and inside his tombliboo ride-on thing).

Lenni- Hope back better soon. Mine ok now but still can't lift the hulk to or from cot. Can you still drive? Mine felt terrible whenever I changed gear or put the handbrake on/off?

and a big Whoop-whoop for H's solo sleep in the swing

PatTheHammer · 20/01/2010 22:10

Yay, back to Ray!!

Glad no AF gumps when was it due?

120 · 20/01/2010 22:38

HZ... full tears here! Fabulous...must admit to a huge amout of jealousy at pool too! You choose the venue, text me!

Ray... great to have you back in original form. Does anyone want me to change back too, or am I ok in metric?

Pat, I wasn't trying to give any BF advice, just doing it the way I did it last time, and actually may end up dropping morning one first as now I think about it, he's been sleeping at 1ish, so may just move the feed to then. I think your plan sounds great, if that's what fits in with your routine.

I've just spent a fortune getting loads of new stock for my website including a new set with a lovely nutrition weaning poster & easy use bibs which are -the- -bollocks- fantastic. Exciting, but a bit scary, this starting your own business m'guffy.

Happy Birthday J for tomorrow.. must go to bed now!

120 · 20/01/2010 22:39

Moose - have given it some thought- if you set up an email addy as moosemama@somewhere on webmail I think you might be able to view our fb profiles
without signing up yourself as I think we can then
email you links into them... Am not sure but think it asks me sometimes if I want to share things with people not on fb.

Lenni · 21/01/2010 11:00

Hkz- thank you for offer, I have one of those, it is fab, also useful for warming Moses basket if you get one of the 'i won 't be put down' newborns I seem to breed. Hope today goes well at hospital, don't take any fobbing off, and if they try tell them we'll all be down there to stage a sit in if they don't make a decision today! ( I am actually totally up for a sit in if needed)

Happy birthday Jude! Great lovely birth story HKZ, I seem to remember a lot of yours from the first time round as I remember being impressed with how empowered you were by it.

The hospital appointment is today as well isn't it? All the best HKZ, give 'em hell!

Ds wasn't himself at all last night, very quiet and subdued and didn't want to eat my vegetable stew, which he usually loves. He seemed better this morning, definitely not as pale, but he's still very erm 'spectrum' and hard to get through to, which is tugging my heartstrings, especially as he has had to go to school, where they just don't 'get it'. In fact I'm welling up now just thinking about it. I wish it was the weekend, so I could just let him have a duvet day or two and treat him a bit. Mind you, it makes me count my blessing that he is so high functioning. It must be so heartbreaking for parents of little ones that are really emotionally distant. Ds1 doesn't ever ask for cuddles really, but he does appreciate the comfort if I instigate them. I can't imagine how it must feel to be this separate from your child's world all the time.

DH just rang while I was typing the above and said ds was ok on the way to school but then didn't want to go in. Apparently he was saying he had a sore throat and felt poorly, which is interesting as I have a bit of a cold and I'm now thinking that if he's coming down with a cold on top of all the bumps to the head and the inadvertent gluten intake, it might all just be too much for him to handle and therefore explain his sort-of shutdown.

moosemama · 21/01/2010 11:15

Lenni

Weirdly, I could view the fb pic of H in the swing that Tree posted yesterday. I would love to see all your pics as I often feel a bit out of the loop as it were.

BUT here is a breakthrough. Dh is considering setting us up a fb account as he is sick of missing out on gigs that all his mates organise via facebook. Typically it had to be more of a problem for him than me before he'd go ahead and do it, but hey, its progress!

I have now received the pics of my party food, but am a bit disappointed with them. It would seem my sister is not the best photographer! I will try and get some time to sit down and work out how to get them onto my profile, if not today, then over the weekend.

I have been thinking about asking dh to book a day off to drive me to the meet-up. Not making any promises though as he is up to his eyeballs in work at the moment and its his birthday on the 15th. If it was at the Costwold Wildlife Park that would be ideal for me as the boys love it there and dh could take them off around the park while I spend some time with you guys. The only thing is that its £10.50 for adults and £8.00 for children over the age of 3 so its not exactly a cheap day out.
