Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

Tomorrow I'm going to the the Newbies cinema screening of Bounty Hunter in the morning and my best friend is coming to visit in the afternoon. Thursday I'm meeting NCT friends in the morning, then going to Latino Bambino (exercise class where you wear your baby in a sling or carrier!). We've already been swimming this morning and my brother is coming round later to play (and hopefully let me have a nap) so Friday I think we'll be loafing around at home and getting ready for our holiday next week. I'm exhausted already just thinking about it!!!

Claire236 · 23/03/2010 13:47

Can't say I've got anything exciting planned this week. Pureed carrot, sweet potato, pear & apple yesterday ready to start the weaning process. Getting ds2 weighed tomorrow as he hadn't gained much last time. 3rd injections Thurs so deliberately not planned anything all day just in case he reacts badly. Need to get some housework done at some point as I keep going out & avoiding it.

HollyHo · 23/03/2010 15:53

Not many plans either this week. I would normally go to the cinema on a Wednesday but I won't tomorrow as DH is working all nights this week and I won't see him otherwise.

Hendo how are you getting on with the swimming, I was going to ask about that. We really want to give it a go... DD will be fine, I don't know if I can face a swimsuit yet, have put on so much weight SINCE I had her it's sad.

We had a really good night last night. I realised that I was getting in a bad habit of allowing her to suckle on me to sleep at night - it might not be a coincidence but the last couple of nights' she has slept much better. Do you think there is a correlation to how they fall asleep and if they settle themselves back in the night? To explain the night before last she cried a bit when I took her off the boob when she was just suckling, but I managed to settle her with rocking, then put her down whilst she was dosey. Last night the same, off boob, rocking and lullabies (poor girl) and put her down when dosing. I could hear her over the monitor fidgeting for at least half an hour but then she was out (no crying at all). Anyway this was at seven pm - I went to bed at 11pm and I HAD to dream feed her at 3.30 when I woke engorged! So basically what I am saying is I think I read somewhere that it can depend on under which circumstances they fall asleep - if they wake in another place it will unsettle them. I wonder if woke in the night and settled herself and I didn't hear or she's just starting to sleep through?

If you don't mind my asking, what do you BF ladies do? Do you express in the night? I was so engorged it was painful - I was leaking... (don't wear a bra at night). DD nearly finished one boob at 3.30am but I couldn't get her to take any of the other to relieve me... she was full .

Sorry for the long post.

Tillyscoutsmum · 23/03/2010 16:27

Holly - Its not something I've had to do with DS because he's still feeding every 3-4 hours day and night but with DD, I used to try and avoid expressing where possibly (because obviously it produces more and I was trying to reduce it in the long term). I would just allow myself to leak (put a bed mat down under the sheet to protect mattress and change sheets a lot or wear a sleep feeding bra and pads) and just hand express a tiny bit off if I was too engorged to sleep. My supply would normally meet demand after 3-4 nights of a pattern iyswim ?

hendo77 · 23/03/2010 17:00

Holly - getting on well with the swimming. We're doing lessons which is really good, although quite expensive. Having said that I've met some really nice people at my lessons which is good. The only problem is that our lessons have been at noon which is when she's always really tired. Although we're not quite in a routine (due to my v feeble attempts mostly!) that is more or less the one time of day I can guarantee she'll be getting ready to sleep. Luckily we've just changed times to 10.30 so I'm hoping it will be even better then.

Re the bf at night, I'm still having to feed every 3-4 hours day and night too. I'm trying to sort out my day time feeds and naps as apparently that might help but to be honest I'm thinking I'll just be doing this until she's nearer 6 months and any more sleeping than this will be a real bonus! On the very, very few nights she has gone a long time without feeding and I've been engorged I have feed from one side then expressed the other. She used to take it in a bottle the next day, so it wasn't wasted and then she was usually back to feeding at night next day so it didn't cause problems. I would agree with Tilly about just expressing a teeny bit to relieve the pain but not all of it so your body doesn't think it needs to make all that milk every night maybe?

LifeOfKate · 23/03/2010 20:31

Hello all, I'm back

Had a bit of a rubbish weekend (Mothers, who'd have 'em, eh? ) but won't bore you with that

Kings - glad to hear Persephone is getting on a bit better, I feel so sorry for her, poor baby

Holly - I too have no need to express during the night, as DS is feeding at least every 3 hours, if not more often. We are coming to the end (I HOPE!!) of a growth spurt where he was on and off every hour, so I'm feeling more alive than I thought was possible for only being woken up every 2-3 hours! What's getting me through is the thought that I'll be able to have lie-ins in, ooo, about 18 years time .

Mind you, I can't believe how quick it's going, tomorrow is a year since I got my BFP, how exciting

LaDiDaDi · 23/03/2010 20:38

I'm still feeding around twice in the night well, 11pm-midnight, 3ish and then 6ish at which time I suppose most people would just get up but I manage to get back to sleep !

Had a really nice day with dd today. Played games, went to the park, built stuff with lego, decorated bought biscuits and played snap. Feel really pleased with myself today, hair washing wasn't the usual nightmare either tonight.
Tomorrow will probably be hell!

Think I will take dd to either library or museum tomorrow. Weather will be crap apparently but I need to get out of the house with her, tbh I think that's key to me having a good day. Poor old ds just has to go along with things, but he seems quite happy. Tried him in the Bumbo today, now on it's fifth child after dd, my cousin's dd and my friend's two children. He looked cute in it but still probably just a bit too little. He seemed happy enough in it though. Dd liked trying her dolls in it.

PIL will have dd for a bit on Thursday and I think that I might ask my mum to come swimming with me and dd on Friday or Saturday.

Toddler group today and activities in one of the local parks tomorrow then soft play on Friday.

Yesterday was slobbing round the house. I had NOT had a good night!

Hello ladies, hope you all well.

Kingsroadie-Glad op went well, and your DD sounds like she is doing great, still smiling after all she has been through, bless her.

Ellis and i have started going swimming once a week and he loves it, hes so chilled in the water, but getting him dressed when we are finished, now that is a different story.......!

Im starting a postnatal exercise class tomorrow, its exercising with your pram/buggy, apparently running up hills etc! Im really looking forward to it, its similar to the Buggyfit classes which are popular, but these classes are free-even better!
I intend to start going to the gym at least twice a week too when DH can look after the boys, so will have to be an evening or weekend. Ive put on nearly a stone since i had E, i lost all my baby weight plus half a stone extra within 4 weeks of having him, but that half a stone plus extra has gone back on, im only 5ft 3 so really noticeable.

Have a good day everyone, got to go, E is stirring from his nap.

Claire236 · 24/03/2010 15:36

Feeling dead crap because none of my clothes fit. Normal stuff still too small but stuff I bought when first pregnant but not big enough for maternity is too big. Feel like I look rubbish all the time in my cobbled together outfits of random items that don't fit properly. Going to have to attempt some sensible shopping to bulk out my wardrobe without spending too much. I keep thinking about exercise but can't get in a proper routine as ds2 is a law unto himself. Currently wanting a bottle every 2 hours during the day which has messed up his daytime sleeping pattern & made it difficult for me to get anything done. He's not gaining weight as quickly as he should recently or having as much milk as he should so in a way grateful for the opportunity to get some more milk in him.

3rd injections for ds2 tomorrow, all 3 of them, then another blood test to check my cholestorol Fri. Hopefully the tablets are doing their thing & it's coming down.

HollyHo · 24/03/2010 19:25

Hi all,
Thank you for your advice on the non-expressing at night... it makes total sense of course, let my body naturally reduce the milk it makes at night. DD has had a couple of really good nights/long sleeps in a row - I wasn't expecting it to last - just wondered for the future. I could be getting a good stretch of sleep myself but only if I go to bed at 8pm! Her longest ever stretch was that night of 7pm -3.30am. I can't and wouldn't want to have her go to bed later - she has her own routine and can hardly keep her eyes open past 6.30pm regardless of her naps during the day. It's just how she likes it I suppose. Wonder how the hour time change will affect this weekend? I have been doing great at putting her down before she suckles... I can still hear her now just happily drowsy!

This morning I noticed and compared a photo of her first home in her moses basket and now... wow! she is nearly totally filling it now... I must declutter her room which has turned into laundry central and get her ready for her new big girl cot! Time is flying.

Got an invitation to step-sisters DDs' "naming ceremony". I bought DD a very cute dress from Ebay but I need something now... feel like a lump. Claire236 I know how you feel. Clothes shopping has never been my favourite... just a necessity, am way heavier now than when I had her... hope DS2 is ok tomorrow with his injections too. ABP - postnatal exercise class sounds great. Let us know how you get on.

sparklycheerymummy · 24/03/2010 20:28

ABP i did one of those classes but found my pelvic floor wasnt up to it and me and my friend laughed so much not sure they would want me back!!!!

GoldenSnitch · 24/03/2010 21:03

I did buggyfit when I had DS. It certainly got me fitter but I didn't find I actually lost any weight. Being fitter helped me get through aerobics classes which did help shift some weight though

Wanted to start going again when DS went to pre-school but they've changed the days of the classes to Mondays and Wednesdays and DS is at pre-school Tuesdays and Thursdays!!

Picked up his school jumper today and he made me pick him up and hid his face in my shoulder. He wouldn't even make eye contact with his keyworker! Leaving him there after Easter is going to be a nightmare!!

sparklycheerymummy · 24/03/2010 21:38

we have two round here..... north yorks.... pushy mothers and mams and prams!

GoldenSnitch · 24/03/2010 21:41

They've renamed ours Push 'n' Tone

LaDiDaDi · 24/03/2010 21:54

Is he going to go two full days GS?
I think that dd will be a nightmare when she starts school and then I go back to work, we've both been enjoying me being around all of the time so I think it will be hard for her, especially after 6 weeks at home with me in the summer hols.

OP posts:
GoldenSnitch · 24/03/2010 22:13

No, just two mornings. 9.15 till 11.50 I think it is...

Really should check that!

anniebigpants · 25/03/2010 11:12

Didnt go today as weather is shite awful! Oh well. The next one i can make wont be until about 4 weeks as cant do next Thu, then DS! is off nursery for Easter hols. Its called Motivating Mothers here (im in North East so not too far from you Sparkly)

LaDiDaDi · 25/03/2010 12:08

I think we are near each other annie!

Dd is off with pil this pm so I think I'm going to go to the shops! Feeling a bit stressed as we are waiting for some results from the hospital for my dad and need to distract myself. Still have some cash left on my next giftcard from Mother's Day and have a credit note for the Superdry store from dp's Xmas presents that he's asked my to use to buy t-shirts with. Hopefully I will be able to get lots of stuff without actually having to spend any of my own money !

Just dug out my Davina Post Natal workout DVD for the first time. Never managed to do it while I was pregnant as I was either paranoid about miscarrying again, throwing up, paranoid about my low lying placenta or too tired!

Found it easy, didn't even get out of breath! Must be fitter than I thought!!

LaDiDaDi · 25/03/2010 16:43

I have a Davina dvd somewhere upstairs. I bought it after I had dd.

It's still in it's wrapper!

OP posts:
GoldenSnitch · 25/03/2010 16:53

I had to take the wrapper off mine today. I bought it when I was first pregnant almost a year ago!!

I had heard the normal Davina workout were quite good. I guess this one is a bit more easy going as its for just after you've had a baby

BexJ78 · 25/03/2010 23:02

Hi all, hope you are all well. decided today that i actually need to do something with anna, so have booked us onto a baby swimming course starting after easter. the thought of putting on a swimming costume though, is frankly very unappealing....
have just booked her christening for august too. Can't believe it's a year since i found out i was pg! How time flies.

BexJ78 · 25/03/2010 23:04

Oh and should have said, sparklycheerymummy i am in York...where in NY are you?
