pulapula · 03/10/2009 09:54

Thanks for all the advice for my sister. It sounds like they were trying to say the quality of her milk wasn't good enough but sounds a bit rubbish to me too. I know she's had her latch checked a lot, but worth checking for tongue tie too. He seemed to feed well enough when i was there.

llareggub · 03/10/2009 10:01

Pulapula I've never heard such bollocks as the wrong textured milk! But do check for tongue tie; DS2's wasn't picked up until day 15 when it was spotted by the HV.

grumpy mmmmmmmm bakery run, I am drooling!

flippineck sending you my best "cope with inlaws" vibes

ses I promise that you won't have to put up with a lot of biting! But ouch, poor you.

We had a lovely lie-in this morning as DS1 slept out last night. DS2 woke me up stroking my face, so, so cute! He had a sleepy feed and woke up again at 9.30am and boy did I need that extra sleep after my night out.

Grumpyoldcaaaaaaaa · 03/10/2009 10:31

I wouldn't mind but I asked them what time they wanted breakfast and they said 7.30.

Gah! Never mind, DH can do it tomorrow whilst I lay in bed with my fat, warm, snuggly baby.

OP posts:
runningmonkey · 03/10/2009 10:42

pula maybe they meant the baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk? I reckon that's A's problem tbh as she does seem to get full v quickly but then needs feeding v soon afterwards. One of our HV team suggested I re-try the same boob after A pulls off rather than swapping immediately to make sure she gets as much hindmilk as poss. I am nooooo expert tho!

grumpy please stop with the 'ooh look at all the lovely french food I'm buying/eating' I'm v v v v

belgian am feeling your pain re early starts. A was restless from about 3am last night (wind I think) then decided that 6am was party time. DH luckily got up with her and let me have another 45mins sleep.

ses ouch, hope O behaves for your meeting. Lovely new pics on fb btw.

flipp hope the rest of the IL visit goes ok

llare how cute. A sometimes strokes my tummy when feeding in bed, always makes me

Sad day here in the running household, someone is coming to buy the campervan Altho DH has just made me giggle - he's reading the BLW book and was saying how excited he is about trying it I mentioned someone's (sorry forgot who) idea about using cheap shower curtains to protect from mess and he thought I was going to cut a hole for A's head so she could wear it like a giant plastic poncho

ReeBee · 03/10/2009 11:31

Running, at DH and the plastic poncho vision - although I'm sure it would work a treat!

Saus, hope your swanky meal and evening all went well.

Grumpy, yay for seeing your DH today. Is BeeBee (right name??) coming too? I am also v of your boulangerie and patisserie tales.

Erm, we didn't put F in his cot in his own room last night. We were too soft - we went out (with him) to the local Italian restaurant which was fab, and got back about 8.30pm so his routine was already a bit out. Then DH said 'I haven't seen him all week, I don't want him not to be in the basket at the bottom of the bed when I go to bed and wake up.' Aw, bless. So, that was that. On a good note, F did sleep 11.40pm - 6am!! Assume it's because he got an extra evening feed due to change in routine. He did wake up but I remembered everyone's advice (esp Tummum's) and didn't go to him, and he must have settled himself again really quickly. I might try waking him at 8.30pm as well as 10.30pm to see if it helps tonight. When of course he will be in his cot. Ahem.

Oh god, I haven't started looking for the land deeds yet either although I have tidied out all the desk and sideboard drawers. Might pop to the supermarket first. And maybe do the recycling.

pulapula · 03/10/2009 11:38

I must confess that i have just given DS2 a bit of baby rice (he's nearly 21 weeks) . He has been so whingey the last few days I have been trying to work out what it is by trying different things. Well he is so much happier now - may be coincidence but may not be. I don't want to get into giving it regularly as it is still very early but thought i'd try as his constant whinging has been driving me nuts. With my others i gave baby rice at 5 and a half months and other fruit/veg from 6, so this is early, but the HV said it should be ok.

flippineck · 03/10/2009 11:50

Quick hello!

LOL at shower curtain poncho! Great idea!

Feeling sorry for myself, have got a cold, and think I have broken a toe! Walked into the door frame yesterday, toe is cut and hugely bruised, swollen and very very painful. In-laws not here atm, gone to pick up their hire car (live overseas so have flown over).

A's cot was delivered this morning, DH will build it later. Glad it's here, the moses basket creaks so much! And A wakes herself up in it when she hits the sides.

See you later. Off to make beetroot chutney now. Wish me luck, never done it before.

Tummum · 03/10/2009 11:59

Hello everyone. Bit of an eventful day yesterday as my good friend (and kinda neighbourly mother figure) who I had been helping out because she was poorly, had a heart attack. Luckily she was in hospital and had the best treatment, but it's been a bit crazy sorting everything out for her. I am also feeling (irrationally I know) guilty that I didn't take her poorly-ness more seriously.

Better news from last night was that I went out. In the evening. Without the DC. I even wore a proper bra and make-up It was a lovely evening, but reminded me that I need to do more stuff with DH and I need to make some more time for myself. Also G slept through last night as well. Woo-peeee ! I did put him down later than normal because of all of the hospital to-ing and fro-ing, but he went down at 8, mega dream feed at 12 and woke up at 8 . I really hope he carries on.

Pula I have been giving G some baby rice too. He has been trying to grab my food off my plate / watches my every move when eating, so I figured I would start him off slowly with a little and he seems to like it.

Reebee how cute is your DH ?! Good luck with the transfer to the cot. It is a big step... I just can't believe how quickly they are growing up

Llare congrats on the decision. Are you going to go back for the 3 months that you planned, or are you going to not go back at all and work on the business / public appointments?

Saus hope the swanky meal worked

Ses don't worry about the biting... I have done similar in a similar situation.

Flip do you have gin and chocolate in the house? They are essentials when my MIL comes a-visiting

Belgian hope you are getting on OK after your early start

I am off to go take some more drugs as my head is still hurting from the car boot incident I can't complain as it was a self inflicted injury !

runningmonkey · 03/10/2009 12:11

flipp you have my sympathy, I did similar last week, and my toe is an interesting colour. Let me know how the chutney turns out, I have a glut of beetroot in my fridge and need something to do with it!

Tum sorry about your friend. I hope she makes a speedy recovery.

FiByTheSea · 03/10/2009 15:48

hellooo! have been reading but too manic here to post.. can't name check everyone as i've just read last 4pages in one & on phone atm.. too many posts of who did what for me to remember.

high chairs.. we got this one for ds and it's been great. it also becomes an adult chair. ds is now using the travel handysit high chair we got for when we're out and about.. he wanted to be in a chair like mummy and daddy so we set it up on one of our dining room chairs which delighted him. it's also given me the chance to thoroughly clean his svan

G rolled over today from her back to tummy for the 1st time. but unfortunately i missed it as i'd left the room to run a bath..

yawn.. i am cream crackered.. want to curl up and snooze right now..

Good afternoon everyone.

We had an OK day, but C definitely wasn't the happy smiley baby she normally is. I think it might also be a little bit of teething trouble, so I've got gel, I've now also bought granules and calpol. I'm going to dose her up tonight and see if she sleeps a bit better. I finally got that book about babies' developmental leaps from my parents and it says that around 19 weeks babies have a difficult, clingy, bad sleeping time due to a developmental leap. C's about that (I think she's 20 weeks, but I've lost count). So hopefully she'll grow out of it soon. It is really interesting the book, because it also mentions that babies that were active might become more quiet and that's exactly how C's been the last week or 2.

We had a great time. My grandmother made me laugh though. We've got a lot of old timberframed houses in the village and she made a comment along the lines of 'what, they're still inhabited, these old piles of rubble?' Lol, they're only 3-400yo buildings, listed and very expensive!!

Ses Don't worry too much about your reaction when you got bitten. I think most of us do something like it. My reactions with the other dcs was strong enough for them never to have done it again.

llare nice to hear you had a good night out.

saus I hope your night is was a good one too.

flippin have fun making chutney and enjoy your PIL

Belgianchocolates · 03/10/2009 17:57

The day didn't start of great and it carried on btw. My parents were 30min early and arrived while I was in the shower and C was crying, because I'd decided to just let her cry while I took a shower or I'd never get ready before they arrived

sausagenmash · 03/10/2009 18:01

Bllllllleeeeeeeeeeeuuuuuuuuuuuurgh (vom emoticon)

We've both felt really manky today. Don't know if its because I'm a bit coldy or all the stupidly gorgeous rich food and booze we had last night. (stupid peppercorn sauce didn't work, ggrr) We collapsed into bed and conked out straight away. So much for la romance! On another note, though, M slept in her cot for the first time - woke at 2.30am, and dp fed her! (another trumpet fanfare!) HOW CAN I GET HER TO SLEEP THROUGH???!!! Anyway, had a lovely bath this morning - and dp brought me up a bacon baguette, a cup of tea and a copy of The Dandy - twas lovely, but when I got out I got back into bed. Bless dp, he has looked after M all day, what with me snoozing. She's still in her last night's babygro, but stuff it, its the weekend!

Early night for me tonight.......z......z..z..z.zzzzzzzzzz

Belgianchocolates · 03/10/2009 18:39

saus I hope you'll feel a bit better today and that you get plenty of zzzz in tonight.

You know I feel totally outraged at what my mum told me today: "BC, you're getting wrinkles around your eyes. Actually they're quite deep. I haven't got wrinkles like that" I've been studying my face in the mirror and my skin looks nowhere near as wrinkled as hers . As punishment I got her to buy me a lovely new scarf and a gorgeously luxuryous, but ridiculously expensive merino wool little baby dungaree for C . Normally I'd say no to such extravagance. But she deserved it. Me wrinkles, huh.
Oh and my dad said to her that he's happy they went via the tunnel as it's very windy today on the channel, upon which my mum replied: well, I think I can still feel it in the train you know. Lol and . I hope not. I don't think it would be very good if you felt the Eurotunnel sway in the wind.

essenceofSES · 03/10/2009 19:54

Belgian - your mum's comment about the tunnel made me laugh so much I shared it with DH. He suggested that the wind your mum was feeling in the tunnel was courtesy of your dad!???!
The signs of the developmental leap you talk about ring true here too.

Dandy - sorry for bug. Hope it clears up quickly.

Fi - yay for G rolling. I missed it the first time O rolled too. Anyone would think they time it that way on purpose!!

Tummum - yay for night out! Hope your friend recovers well.

Pula - thinking of your sister. Hope the feeding settles down for her.

DS has been tired all day and refusing to sleep. It's so frustrating when they get upset because of tiredness but fight sleep. By about 5pm I got fed up and persauded DH to have a go as I was getting a bit teary. He still didn't sleep but I had a bit of a break whilst I cooked dinner. He is now asleep but only fell asleep feeding and I'm scared to move him now!

Btw, thanks for everyone's comments re biting. I felt really bad but reassured by your comments and his lack of reaction. Am trying to persevere!

SpangleMaker · 03/10/2009 20:21

Finally put grumbly H down, hoping he will stay asleep. H's been a bit difficult this evening, I'm not sure why. Fortunately he was on good form for my Mum today. H sat on my knee at lunchtime and had a go at my meal - he's still not actually eating anything but managed to get some lettuce to his mouth and chewed on a chunk of bread so he's getting there. My mum was really impressed with BLW, she thought it was fascinating watching H and wished she had done it with me as I was a fussy bugger. Poor Mum.

Belgian at your Mum but at least you got some recompense in the form of shopping.

Dandy hope your bug clears up quickly. I had something last weekend and realised how much harder childcare seems when you're feeling rough.

Saus hope you have a nice, relaxing evening.

I'm waiting for DH to ring to say he's leaving the hospital so I can ring for a Chinese MIL is feeling ok but they are keeping her in to check the treatment they gave her is settling down. We think she'll be let out next week sometime. I'm planning to take H for a quick visit tomorrow afternoon, but MIL doesn't feel comfortable with him being in a hospital. I'm sure it won't do any harm though - would any of you be worried about taking a 6mo for a quick hospital visit?

Belgianchocolates · 03/10/2009 20:27

spangle at your chinese. That's one thing we haven't got here in my area a delivery chinese. I could have done with that today, I'm soooooo tired.
Oh and, spangle, according to my book 26 weeks is the next leap and so a time where babies are more clingy/cry-y, want to stay on mum's lap. H is 26 weeks now isn't he? Maybe it's the start of another leap?

Is it X-factor today? Might watch that. I'm currently looking at some gorgeous slings and I'm mentally calculating how much I need to win on the lottery to buy everything I want.

llareggub · 03/10/2009 21:01

Thanks for the good wishes about my future career plans! I am very excited about it and at times scared, but I feel very relieved. I have to go back for 3 months to keep my OMP, but 8 weeks of that is accrued annual leave etc so I will give my notice at the start of the annual leave. I have to give 3 months notice so I'll have to work 4 weeks, and then I am free! Realistically I will start working with DH before then.

Dandy I hope you are feeling better.

Belgian more slings?! Oh and wrinkles? I didn't see any wrinkles on your face.

Spangle yum, Chinese! As for the hospital, I probably would take a 6 month old in but I'd probably ask on the ward first and be very careful about hygiene.

running how funny about the poncho!

rolling congratulations to all of the rolling babies.

We've had a productive day today. We've rejigged all of our furniture around and generally cleaned. Much better. I've got yoga and swimming in the morning so aiming for an early night after my social whirl this week!

Momino · 03/10/2009 21:13

will you forgive me for not namechecking?

was at the York Nearly new sale all day, selling/helping. Only bought 2 things: a ladybird fancy dress outfit for Halloween for dd2 (v cute) and a playmobil dolls' house for dd1&2 for Christmas. the house is a huge victorian mansion that i got for £35. I do have to buy the furniture but thought inlaws could get a few rooms as christmas gifts. I'm very excited about it, they'll love it!

sausage/dandy and anyone feeling poorly, hope you're better soon.

grumpy, could you please come round tomorrow morning 730 with same breakfast? oh, and welcome to France to your DH and beebee.

ok, gotta cut short as supper is served. would have loved to name check more. will check back when I can.

flippineck · 03/10/2009 22:33

Evening all!

We had a chinese too. We've had a really busy day, PILs looked after DD1 while DH and I did loads of stuff round the house. We've moved furniture (was it you llaregub who's been doing doing stuff too?), built A's cot, sorted out bags of clothes etc. A is still in with us, but she's now in her cot and we've had to move our chest of drawers into DD1's room temporarily.

My chutney seems to be ok. The recipe said it made 6lbs, but it;s only made 3, and it seems really sweet at the moment but I guess the real test is what it's like in 6 weeks time. I'll let you know.

Feeling grotty, my cold is getting worse and my foot still hurts. Thank you for all the sympathy!

I've discovered something good about the ILs being here...I'm losing weight! It could be stress (lol!) but I think actually it's because I don't eat loads when they are around, I don't want them to think I'm a glutton as well as a crap wife and a rubbish mother!

sophietom · 03/10/2009 23:28

Oh I am so going to regret being up this late if Jake wakes up early

muddleddaizy · 04/10/2009 07:25

Hi there, am back from my hols. Twas good, but I'm soooo tired as ds2 was grumpy and slept really badly all week, plus I had to do all the driving - yawn! We went to dh's cousin's passing out parade too - oh my never do this with small children! Ds1 wouldn't stop talking when supposed to be quiet and ds2 took a very vocal dislike to the sling. Ds1 is coming out with some funny things. The officer said they were going to retire. Ds1 looked around and said tyres, where's the tyres!!

Been trying to catch up on here - been chuckling away! Like the idea of the photoshoot!!

Spangle hope your mil is home from hospital soon.

Dandy hope you're feeling better soon.

Sorry for not name checking anyone else.

Well DH isn't here yet. The stupid twat knob silly billy chose a car that is reknowned for breaking down to go to the airport in and guess what?

Yes.

Anyway, he is allegedly on his way now - should be on a ferry with Beebee at the mo, so may be here by 9 or 10 tonight. I haven't told the girls, don't want to get mine and their hopes up .

I actually just popped on to go back aways and say spangle sorry, but a picture of you in a magazine, ironing? Please, please, please explain
