Hi Spin!

Dh and I loved NZ when we travelled there as part of our round the world gig in 1998. Did both islands, and often look at the photos - even from them we remember just how breathtakingly beautiful it is. It just felt like we were the only people in the world! We drove round in a hired camper van, Stu fished everywhere he could, I read lots of books. Bliss. Bloody freezing when we went though...

My parents are in Oz at the moment, staying with my mums sisters in Adelaide, although my Dad is escaping now and then to his sister's sheep station an hour north of Dubbo. He drove there and back last week, for their ram sales, what a nutter! My sister and her boyfriend are very much enjoying having the house to themselves (plus her two girls) back here at home.

Harry has turned into Kevin the teenager and having shoted "NO!" at me for the 4th time when I asked him to eat his breakfast, found himself eating it in the downstairs loo. I get the same every morning. He hates it that Toby gets to sit in front of CBeebies while he has to eat brekkie, get dressed, brush teeth etc. But he has to learn that he is a big boy and goes to big school and this is the drill. I have told him that if we get more of the same tomorrow, no football training on Saturday..

Toby had a wet bed this morning so it's back to pull ups till after we get back off holiday. How come he has a dry nappy for 8 days in a row and then a wet bed when he doesn't where one? I took him to the loo when I went to bed....

Anyhoo, another day in the big smoke, no meetings though so can mince about looking busy and slope off at 4pm....

Bloss

ok so Harry has been at school for a month and has just, with zero help from me, sounded out every letter of the word "Stop" and then read it. READ IT!!!! Was so proud I almost POPPED!!!!!!

TheGoddessBlossom · 13/10/2009 20:27

Jeez Spin, Chilton Hilton looks so grown up! Lovely pics. We have been to that Rotorua smelly pool!!!! Great pic of him and your DH.

Ceebee74 · 13/10/2009 20:30

Bloss - wow well done Harry What a star!

Spin - your holiday sounds just perfect and NZ sounds idyllic!

Got my copy of this month's Mother and Baby mag today and Pinkdolly and her DH are in it with the birth story of their little boy - they look like such a lovely family and what a story!!

All ok here although having huge problems with Josh and walking - he point blank refuses to hold our hands so any walk is a nerve-racking experience Not sure what to do about it tbh as he is such an independent little sod boy...off to start a thread I think.

Am about ladies but in a daze. Matthew woke every hour last night so stayed in bed and let DH do the school run alone. Dreading him going back to work on Monday. HV coming this morning so need to be strong.

Sophie now in aged 2-3 tops so obviously growing.

Big wave to everyone, I do read all your posts.

Great pics, Spin, Chilt looks very grown up and protective of his little sis. R looks like a very confident young lady (she's not is she???!)

HC, it's the crazy newborn phase we all forget about! Hope he settles soon x x x

Bloss that's amazing, that Harry can read already. Does he do jolly phonics? Joey's teacher last night at the meeting said he's pretty good at sounds and numbers but could we try and re-inforce the jolly phonics please! He can't hold a pencil very well yet, his shoulders aren't strong enough!!
He can sound out letters though, and can sometimes read three letter words, and 'the' is one he recognises now.
You must be so proud of him Bloss! (Harry I mean, not Joey...)

DH has had his operation this morning, and is at the moment 'in recovery' I believe. He's been there since around 11am, so he should be recovered by now, no? Get a grip, man...

Laters! x

Spin - just managed to look at your photos - they are lovely Chilt looks so grown up with his new haircut - I love it!!

Annie - how is your DH? Have they kept him in overnight? I think I was in recovery for about an hour last week (time was a bit blurred though!)

HC - really hope you manage to get some sleep soon (Matthew, if you are listening, let your mummy sleep young man ) There is no way I am going back to that sleepless state of a newborn again

Am feeling a bit guilty - I got a sicknote from the hospital for 2 weeks last week which runs out next Tuesday but I am feeling almost as good as new so feel a bit of a fraud being off sick. Plus the op hasn't made me lose some more pounds which I was kind of banking on (my friend lost a stone when she had it done) - I guess I'll have to shift this last stone the old-fashioned way

HumphreysCorner · 14/10/2009 20:52

Evening all

spin-have looked at your photos and they are super. Agree that Chi looks so much older than the last pic I saw of him.

Bloss-clever Harry. I can't even get Sophie to learn her colours.

Annie-hope your DH is OK. Loving the sympathetic wife bit!

Ceebee-my mum never lost any weight when she had this op. Don't feel guilty about being off with a sicknote and feeling well.

Have an infection down below so on antibiotics.

Big wave!

HC sorry to hear about the infection, that's all you need! Just remember - this too shall pass.

CB I'm with the others, put your feet up and enjoy it! You're not Catholic by any chance are you?

Annie - I have got Harry's parents evening tonight and will be grilling them about their impressions of Harry's "reading". After a joint sotry with T last night, H wanted to practice some more words, so I picked out lots of 3 letter ones (can, off, cut, put etc)and he can sound out all the letters no probs, and most of the time put them together into the word. Not all the time though. But I am so impressed that he knows the sounds already! Yes it is phonics, he learns 3 letters and their sounds a week, and each one is accompanied by an action to help them remember...

Hope your DH recovers soon - sounds like he gets as much sympathy as my DH - who has had a mystry "pain" in his stomach for a week. But won't go to the dox. I mean what the hell do I do with that???

PixelHerder · 15/10/2009 13:02

Hi Girls! Sorry am way behind again, but have been trying to keep up!

Belated Happy 40th HC ? at last someone to join me in the over 40?s gang Hope you?re feeling a bit better soon and that lovely Matthew decides to get some sleep in ? gorgeous gorgeous pics of you all, he?s a handsome boy

Glad the op went well Ceebee and that you?re feeling well so quickly ? but keep putting your feet up when you can eh - these opportunities don?t come along often so make the most of them! Hope you can sort out Josh?s walking thing ? I?d second the reins idea too (as in ?you can have reins OR you can walk nicely and hold hands when you?re told to? ? well it sounds good in theory anyway? ) I have to say I HATE walking along the road with toddlers, even when they?re being relatively well behaved it still drives me insane as it takes five times as long as when they were in the pram and I?m always afraid they?ll wibble off into the road in a vacant moment. In fact I still make Emma go in the Maclaren if we have to get anywhere and don?t have 3 hours to spare?

Hope DH recovers quickly too Annie, so that he can be up and about and resuming his duties Nothing more tedious than an ill man? Glad Joey?s settling okay at school, bless him. Loved your ?going to school? pics.

Wow sounds an amazing trip Spin and wonderful pics as usual! Roshi?s such a poppet and Chilt?s so handsome with his new haircut.

Lol at Brighton Rock Bloss, you should work for the tourist board Great that H is doing so well, wow at the spelling!!

So sorry to hear about your DH's job Agalch - hope something else comes along really soon.

Hi to all ? Flick, Impy Gorgeous pics of Ry, Impy by the way (from ages ago )

Emma started pre-school at beginning of Sept - so far it hasn?t been terribly plain sailing First couple of times weren?t too bad, but then the penny dropped that it was going to keep happening and she started having meltdowns every morning on pre-school day. She?s a bit better now when I leave her, but still looks bloody miserable. She?s apparently not too bad when I?ve gone, but I think it?s going to be a long time before she actively enjoys it, if she ever does. She?s also really clingy at the moment and wanting me all the time instead of DH which is the first time she?s been like that, so it must be hitting her hard, bless her.

I think she?s a bit like Toby Bloss ? she likes doing her own thing! She hates being crowded by other kids, and is really withdrawn when she?s in ?public? kind of situations like toddler groups, though you?d never know it when she?s at home, she?s bright and talkative which makes it all the more frustrating. But she?s going to have to get used to it ? school this time next year? bloody hell that?s another thing, got to get the 'choices' form in by end of Nov

HumphreysCorner · 18/10/2009 16:08

Just putting myself back on active convos. Can't believe I have a migraine so soon after the birth, thought they would only return when my periods did and as I am BF that should be next year. Poor boy has got AB's and migraine tablets in his milk. He is still waking every hour so am very tired, the girls are hyper and DH is back at work tomorrow so got to do the school and nursery run on my own. Ho hum!

Hope all OK.

Good luck HC, hope the migraine passes soon. You are doing so well, and sleep will come.

CB hope you are all better, are you back to work today? or is it tomorrow? DH is ok, still a bit uncomfortable and asked his mammy to stay a few more days rather than have me take time off work. They are doing the school run every morning which means I'm missing out, but it's only for a couple of more days and then I'll be back. It just means I have more time at home in the mornings to faff around writing shopping lists. He was home the day of the op around 2pm and has been a bit dizzy on and off since then, low blood pressure I think.

Pix, great to hear from you, I'm sure Emma will settle soon. It took Mimi a good few weeks, but she'll be fine. Can't believe it, we all have to get our babies into school for next year! AAARRRGH. Though Mimi should be in easily on the sibling rule. But so little...

Bloss, Harry sounds amazing! Good on ya girl. Hope your DH's pain has gone... poor fella...

Right. Work.

TheGoddessBlossom · 19/10/2009 16:48

Hi all.

Migraine HC, yuk, not nice, poor you. Good luck with school runs!

Annie - DH has agreed to go to dox on Thursday so we will see. He is convinced it is booze related. I think he might right. Am worried that he will have to give up booze, as that means I will have to to! Gosh how supportive I am....

Had such a hangover yesterday though, it's probably not such a bad idea.

Toby had an eye check up today wich was fine so that's good. Now off to take Harry to te doctor to check on some skin tags growing on his tummy. We NEVER go to the doctors and now we all seem to be going in one week!

Have I mentioned I am off on holiday on November 4th? Two weeks in Eygpt and I am counting the hours....

AnnieOneForTennis · 22/10/2009 10:06

Morning all

Day off today! A real day off - Mimi at nursery til 12, Joey at school til 3.25 and DH has gone to 'work'! So I'm FREE!
It feels weird though. I need to wash up, go to Sainsbury's, book Santa's grotto tickets, book panto tickets, clean the bathroom, and prepare stuff for eBay.
Only 2 hours left...

Bloss hope your DH gets on ok at the docs. Everything is booze-related in this house too! Great that Toby's eye is ok, phew, and how did H get on? Lucky you, Egypt...

HC, hope you are feeling better. Watched a re-run of Spooks last night, the one where the lovely Adam died ... But he's not dead really, cos I saw him!!!

Right, well, things won't do themselves...

OP posts:
HumphreysCorner · 22/10/2009 13:28

Annie-enjoy your time although it all sounds too hectic for me. Still hoping Adam didn't really get blown to pieces.

Sophie decided to have a poo and try and wipe it herself just as we were going out of the door for school and she had wiped it all over her vest cue me freaking out and Emma coming to the rescue to help. Matthew is 3 weeks today which doesn't seem possible. 'Tis all a blur really especially with last nights half hourly waking. My friends are all pushing me to introduce a bottle to fill him up but I really don't want to do this.

Anyone else (apart from Ceebee who has) started Christmas Shopping? Am so behind this year, must get organised.

Hope all OK.

HC
x

TheGoddessBlossom · 22/10/2009 14:42

HC - nice for you re poo. Sounds like Emma is coming into her own a bit as the oldest of 3!

XMas shopping - don't really want to start till we get back off hols, but have a fiar idea what the boys are getting. We have wedding anniversary and DH's birthday before that to get through...

DH's pain is most likely alcohol related - he has to go in for tests tomorrow, and no booze for a week still the results. How strange it will be to have a teetotal husband. Could he really do it? He says he could....and selfishly for me how wonderful! Permament taxi (let's face it I did it for 18 months whilst pregnant) and no hungover DH ever again....wow.....

Bloss

AnnieOneForTennis · 23/10/2009 10:58

Morning girls.

Bloss, how did DH get on? Hope everything is in good shape (milk thistle!)...

HC hope you are feeling ok. 3 weeks already!! At least Sophie can wipe her bum herself.
Didn't get much done yesterday in the end! Just the Sainsbury's run... oh well!

Joey had an accident in school again yesterday, so the teacher asked me to bring in spare shorts and pants, cos the spare ones they have in school are much too big for him. So big in fact, they dropped by his ankles yesterday when he was in line to be picked up . Not that he noticed...
Anyway we had a chat, and apparently he's scared to flush... several different excuses have come out since, so I don't really know what the problem is, but I think he really does just forget, or is a bit afraid of going when they've just been told to tidy up or line up or whatever. Let's see today...

Christmas shopping? Haven't even thought about it...

Hi all

I have been confined to my bed with some mystery virus and Matthew seems to be on some kind of feeding frenzy so ended up sat up in bed feeding and shivering/sweating at the same time.

spin-hope you feel better soon.

Bloss-you will be so thin if you go teetotal. Think I would have to secretly swig on the BH as I couldn't give it up....ever! Not had any for over a week due to migraine. Hope your DH has good results and doesn't have to be teetotal.

Annie-the Reception and even year 1 children have accidents. Emma has spare pants in her rucksack and she is in year 2.

Big wave to everyone. Been trying to iron for hours but Matthew is being clingy and cries everytime I put him down. Girls stayed over at PIL last night as I felt so bad. Went to the Drs on Friday when I started feeling rough but he couldn't find anything wrong. He did say I mustn't take my prescription migraine tablets while BF and if I do I can't BF for 24 hours and that is something I can't do. Thing is, I have been taking the tablets so no wonder Matthew has been so sick.

Right, he has fallen asleep so must iron some more.
